Email IMAP folders / gmail labels invisible

After os update I can only see my email account in the mail app. All the IMAP folders which are represented by labels in gmail are gone. I can't see my folders. I can't access the trash for example because it is not shown in the left menu pane.

Thanks a lot for your reply, and thanks a lot for the link to that article. I appreciate it.
According to that article, if I move a message to a folder in Apple Mail, that means a label is applied to the message on the web. But, in my experience, moving a message doesn't move the entire thread, so you end up spliting the thread in two. Also, the iPhone/iPod Touch has no Copy function. So, I can't add multiple labels to one message.
Is Gmail IMAP more trouble than it's worth? The iPhone/iPod Touch doesn't show threading, which puts things off to a bad start. And the concept of moving messages into folders is totally different to tagging threads with labels. I currently can't understand how anyone uses Gmail IMAP successfully on their iPhone/iPod Touch, without making a total mess of what's going on online, in Gmail on the web.

  • Z10 not showing all emails in folders (imap + gmail imap)

    Hi
My Z10 is not showing all the emails in my imap email accounts (inc gmail).  e.g. my inbox has 20 messages but the z10 only shows 10 of them.  Same issue applies on some other folders.
Issue also applies on gmail imap account but does not seem to occur on my exchange account.
It also only appears to be affecting emails that are approx 1 or 2 weeks ago in this month.
    Please help!

    Hello,
Please check carefully your settings for your GMail account, especially the portion concerning "Sync Timeframe" (if visible to you, it depends on the integration method).
Check carefully also how these are labeled on GMail...Gmail technically uses labels and not folders, and the BB must interpret the labels into folders. So if a stray label is applied to these items, then that may be why they are suppressed from view.
You can also try removing and re-integrating the problem account.
You can also try ringing up your mobile service provider for formal support and potential escalation to BlackBerry for enhanced formal support.
    Good luck!

I have to backup of Gmail with Thunderbird Portable, so I could free some space on server - but when I use IMAP (to keep labels) after deletin on server...
...my post also deletes on Thunderbird. Please make an option to prevent it, so deleting on a server doesn't effect mail in the Thunderbird. I would be so happy to have it...
    David

First Thunderbird portable is supported by its author at portableapps.com.
Secondly you are describing exactly how the IMAP email standard works and Thunderbird has no control over that.
Thunderbird has Local Folders to move messages that you want to keep locally. Maybe the portable version does too.

  • Are Gmail labels/folders syncing correctly for anyone yet?

I see lots of people claiming the Mail 1.0 update fixed their problems...but mine are definitely not fixed.
After the first 24 hours, I haven't had a problem with Mavericks Mail fetching Inbox messages quickly. (My guess is this is a caching/reindexing thing, but in any case it wasn't an issue for me after day 1. However, my labels/ folders are still not syncing properly at all. Anything I've manually moved from the Inbox to a label after I updated to Mavericks shows up just fine, but anything that was in that label before - and, critically, anything that Gmail rules have archived but added a label to on the backend - do not appear.
Is this still the current state of the union of Mavericks Mail, or should I be calling Apple support? If it still just *****, I'll switch to a new mail app, but if it's just me, I want to find a fix. I can't believe how un-tested this app was when they knew they were making major changes to how it handled Gmail.

I solved my own problem by looking at what Mavericks had done to labels in the Gmail web interface.
In previous versions of Mail, for Gmail labels to show up properly, you'd need to add "[Gmail]" to the IMAP Path Prefix field of the Advanced tab in the mail account settings. In Mavericks, they made this unnecessary, but neglected to alter the setting during migration. If you remove it yourself, Mail will (eventually) re-download and index your Gmail labels as Mail folders.
This is why some folks (including me) were seeing messages in folders appear for things manually moved after updating to Mavericks - when you do that, Mail actually creates a new label at the top level. So you'll end up with /waiting/ with post-Mavericks mail and /[Gmail]/waiting/ with pre-Mavericks mail. Use the Gmail web interface to consolidate them into /waiting/ and then remove the /[Gmail]/waiting/ label, and let it sync. For me, anyway, that fixed the problem, and labels/folders are behaving normally now.

  • Wrong counts on unread emails on my gmail folders in Mac Mail

    Hi
I have a tag showing unread emails in my Gmail folders in Mac Mail when I have no mail inside those folders.
Sent Messages 133 and All Messages 244
I have deleted mnessages everywhere and still this count tag appears with same number.

There are two standard protocols for receiving email, POP and IMAP. In the POP (Post Office Protocol) when messages are "read" by your email client (Mail) they are downloaded and stored on the reading computer and deleted from the POP server. When you are using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) the messages remain on the IMAP server until they are deleted. IMAP was created for exactly the situation you are trying to achieve. For example Apple's iCloud (formerly me.com, formerly mac.com) uses IMAP protocol. So whether I access my email on my Mac, my iPhone, my iPad, or via webmail I have access to all the files in all the various mailboxes automatically because they are all seeing and using the same online mailboxes. If I delete a message on any of the varioius devices it is deleted on all of the various devices.
Whether you can use IMAP protocol or not depends on your email host and whether they have an IMAP server or not. Many ISPs do not offer IMAP because they do not want to bear the expense of the additional disk space required to store the IMAP messages. As I mentioned before Apple's free email service is by default IMAP. Google Mail offers a somewhat non-standard IMAP service. It works with Apple's email client, Mail, but it is just a bit "different".
Personally I resisted using IMAP for years. Largely because I had always used POP and was comfortable with it. Once I got an iPhone and needed to synch my email between my computer and iPhone I realized IMAP was "the only way to go."

  • Does GMail Labels (Folders) Propogate to the iMac Mail Application?

When I create new labels or folders on my GMail web page these folder appear on my iPhone mail app. They don't however show up on my iMac mail application, which is set up with the same GMail account. I have IMAP enabled. How can I get these folders to mirror on the GMail server, iMac mail and iPhone mail?

you have to enable the labels to show in imap from gmail webmail interface (settings->labels). then they will show up in the imap section of Mail.

Did you set up your phone to sync Contacts with iCloud? If not sure, you can log in to https://www.icloud.com and see if your contacts are there.

  • Email client that lets you select IMAP folders?

Hi, is there an email client for Iphone that lets you select IMAP folders to be displayed? I'm using a huge number of (sub) folders and definitelly do not want to see them all on my phone, it is very annoying.
         Thanks, Jan

Is the notifier part of the email program? Is it an independent program like poptray? If it is separate from Firefox, it really shouldn't matter which browser you are using. Unless the notification is within IE.

  • How download emails in IMAP folders?

I store many emails in folders (not Inbox / Sent) on an IMAP email account (not iCloud).
In Mail App then my inbox/sent IMAP folders are auto-sync'd and all email messages downloaded from server to Mail App. Great. But it seems that mail messages in an IMAP folder are only downloaded if I click on the related folder, so do download email messages in 100 folders then I need to click one-by-one on each folder. Email messages that are not downloaded clearly do not appear in any search functionality with Mail App.
Is there a setting or way to force Mail App to download email messages with IMAP folders?

You could search within the account in question, not globally:
    # Right-click on the account name in the folder list to the left
    # select "Search Messages" from the menu
    # enter your search criteria, use the [+] button to add further lines
    # in the result list, you should see "Location" as a column

  • I synced two of my email accounts via gmail's POP3 thing. But now my iphone's gmail inbox shows a random selection of emails (not most recent ones that are in my inbox). How can I make my iphone inbox match what I see when I log on using a PC?

I synced two of my email accounts via gmail's POP3 capabilities. But now my iphone's gmail inbox only shows a random selection of emails (i.e. right now it is May 31, 2013 but the emails in my inbox are a couple from Nov 12, a few from Oct 12, and then some way older than that and so on.When I log into my gmail from a computer, I see all my emails in the logical, standard order. How can I make my iphone inbox match what I see when I log on using a PC?

If you're trying to decide between using POP and IMAP, we encourage you to use IMAP.
Unlike POP, IMAP offers two-way communication between your web Gmail and your email client. This means when you log in to Gmail using a web browser, actions you perform on email clients and mobile devices (ex: putting mail in a 'work' folder) will instantly and automatically appear in Gmail (ex: it will already have a 'work' label on that email the next time you sign in).
IMAP also provides a better method to access your mail from multiple devices. If you check your email at work, on your mobile phone, and again at home, IMAP ensures that new mail is accessible from any device at any given time.
Finally, IMAP offers a more stable experience overall. Whereas POP is prone to losing messages or downloading the same messages multiple times, IMAP avoids this through two-way syncing capabilities between your mail clients and your web Gmail.
That is from the page that you linked- does highlighted part of message ring a bell?

  • Unable to delete an email from a Gmail account in Mail

I am unable to delete an email from my Gmail (IMAP) account within Mail on my MacBook. I get an error message that says there are no matches with the email. It does not show in Mail on my iMac or on my Gmail account online. I have rebuilt the mailbox, but don't know any other steps to try to fix this problem.
Does anyone know how to delete this email?
    Thanks -
    Dudley Warner

    ibosie /V.K. -
Thanks for the suggestions. I did not find the message on my Gmail Internet account. I went into Mail Preferences, and used the Advanced tab under my Gmail account to uncheck "Enable this account". The account folders disappeared. When I restarted Mail and enabled Gmail again, the email was initially gone, but a few minutes later, reappeared. I don't know anything else left to do except delete the account and recreate it If you think of anything else, please let me know.
    Thanks -

  • Outlook Connector - Unable to view messages in IMAP folders

    Hi,
I am trying to get the outlook connector (version 7.2.310.1) and it is fine for collecting mail, calenders etc.
The problem I am having is with IMAP folders.
I have a message rule set up through the webmail view that moves mail with [-SPAM-] in the subject (picked up by our edge filters) into the Junk Email folder. This rule works fine, I can view the messages in there through webamil, if i log in over IMAP using thunderbird or whatever I can see the messages...
The problem is that through the outlook connector, there are no messages in there. The folder exists, I can copy messages in there using outlook and they are visible, but all the mail that is there already is effectively invisible?
Any ideas or have I just missed something?
    Josh

Have you tried re-syncing the folder, to do this:
    1. Within Outlook, right-click on the folder
    2. Select "Properties"
    3. Click on the "Advanced" tab
    4. Click on "Empty and resync" button.

  • Mail - IMAP folders not showing up in folder list

I have several mac mail imap folders and a few of them are not showing all imap folder - yet I can use move to folder to move emails to that folder.  Any ideas?

Check on the IMAP settings (Gmail.com) that Pop is disabled.
It should be in the IMAP/Mail forwarding section.
When it is enabled, folders do not show up in mac mail

  • Setting up Mail for IMAP through Gmail

    Hi,
To sync mail on my desktop, laptop, and iPad, I've set it up to link them through Gmail using IMAP. (I chose not to use iCloud because it won't let me use my own domain name for the e-mail address...and this is my business mail.) Everything works fine; the In-Box and the half dozen folders I have for different projects all appear on my Mac and on Gmail, and syn perfectly.
    But....
I now have 2 "Sent" folders in Mail, which each behaves somewhat differently, and 3 Trash folders, which also behave somewhat differently.
    SENT FOLDERS
One Sent folder is in the top level, under Mailboxes. It appears to be purely local to the computer, and stores messages in the normal fashion. The second one is in the Gmail folder below it, and syncs with gmail. In that folder, all messages are shown as addressed to me. In the account preferences, under Mailbox Behaviors, I tried checking the box to "Store sent messages on the server." But all that did was to flag the top level Sent folder with an error message saying: "The Sent mailbox could not be created on the mail server. The local “Sent Messages (Gmail)” mailbox was created instead."
Is there any way to fix this so that I have only one Sent folder (and no error flag)? I don't need 2 copies of every sent message.
    TRASH FOLDERS
The situation is similar for Trash, except that I have 3 folders. A the top level, Trash has two sub-folders one labeled "On my Mac," the other labeled "Gmail." I have not checked the box to "store deleted messages on the server."  The third trash folder is in the Gmail folder below. For now, all the deleted messages seem to go into the "On my Mac" folder. But it's odd to have the other two trash folders.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.
(By the way, none of this is a problem on my iPad, where Mail has just one Sent folder and one Trash folder, and they both function just as expected.)

About 45 minutes after posting my question, I found a web tutorial that addressed all these issues and explaind step-by-step how to fix them. The suggested settings worked perfectly and fixed all the issues.
I tried to delete my original posting here, but didn't see how to do that. So instead, here's the link to the tutorial ... in case anyone else is facing the same problems.

  • Email sent in Gmail/Thunderbird etc not shown on Blackberry as a sent message.

    Hi
Can someone explain whether the following should be possible using BIS?
If I send an email from my laptop using my Google Apps IMAP email account, should the email not appear on my BB as a sent email?  Are they not supposed to sync like Thunderbird/Outlook do? If I send an email from the Gmail web interface, it appears in my Sent Folder on Thunderbird.
And whilst on the subject, should I not be able to view Inbox, Sent, Outbox etc individually on my BB? When I select "view folder" on my BB, it shows a list of MMS/SMS folders but no email folders.
    Regards
    BT

You need BES for all the folder functions, etc.
I don't recall if GMail IMAP will reconcile sent messages from the webmail to the BB. Another user here might know and answer that specifically.
