Email is received, but can't be viewed/opened

I've been using my Mac and Mail for years without incident.
Yesterday, without provaction, I was still receiving my mail, but could not open the email itself.
Keep getting the messaging on the status bar of "Getting message headers from server" and "Sorting Message" and "Copying Message" and "Comparing Notes with server."
I just keeps cycling through these messages.
Any ideas how to fix?

If for a POP type account, quit Mail first and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > INBOX.mbox.
Move the INBOX.mbox to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and a new (and empty) INBOX.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder.
This should resolve the problem.
Control-click on the old INBOX.mbox moved to the Desktop and at the menu window that appears, select Show Package Contents.
List the package content file names and size of each here.
I suspect the old Inbox mailbox for the account has some corruption and the requested information is required to confirm.

Open Mail
On the Menubar click Window and then from the dropdown menu
click Connection Doctor. Check wheather all the dots are green.
If any one of them is not green, either contact ISP or mail service provider.

Make sure that your username and password are set in the outgoing mail servers setting.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

Receive but can't send email

I have set up my Iphone 5 email exactly the same as my iPhone 4. Emails are received but outgoing email is left in Outbox. It states the sender address was rejected by the server. How can this be when it works on the iPhone 4?

Can you please tell me what to do re, not receiving ALL my emails, and often not being able to send email, even from different wifi servers?

Who is your email provider? Have you set up your account manually or was it set up automatically?

I can receive but can't send e-mail, my phone keeps asking me to set up a password for outgoing mail but I have done that and still nothing happens.

try powering it off for a min and then power back on and see if it works. If not take a look here

Exchange Server 2007 shows email as "Receive" but not "Deliver"

Hi Guys
We have Exchange Server 2007 inside of a SBS 2008 set up.
One specific email from a regular sender wasn't received by the recipient. The recipient is used to receiving messages from this sender and the email is not hiding within Outlook.
Exchange 2007 mail tracker shows the email was received, but that's it. Nothing has happened to the email after that. Normally we'd see a "Deliver" report, or possibly a "Fail", but always something to show the email has been actioned
in some way.
The queues are all empty.
So, this one email has disappeared into the ether of Exchange! So far as I can see, this is the only email with only a "Receive" notification. All others have something else immediately following the Receive.
The Server has GFI anti-spam installed, but that hasn't seen the email either, because emails are collected by Exchange before being passed to GFI. In this instance it hasn't been passed, or returned to the sender as undeliverable. It just seems
to have been eaten.
Would anyone have any sensible suggestions on where to start kicking this email back into life?

Apologies for the late response, but I only get to this client once a month.
1. Did the sender get NDR? ~ No
2. Let the receiver check the email via OWA and see
whether the email is available. ~ Still not available
3. Use MFCMAPI to check the user mailbox, can you
find the missing email? ~ I haven't yet worked out what is MFCMAPI or how to use it to check, but I suspect that as the Exchange email tracker doesn't have any actions after "Receive" that it cannot have sent the email on to the user's mailbox or rejected
the email as non-deliverable.
The client isn't too willing to expend too much effort
/ cost on this issue which does appear to be a one-off glitch, but I am interested in resolving it for myself as I haven't heard of this problem before.

The attachment bar at the bottom of incoming emails has no ''paperclip'' to select and open attached documents

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
* Go to "View > Toolbars" and check-mark "Menu Bar" with a click if you want to make that permanent

Make sure that all the toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
* If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

I sent many photos to friends yesterday morning suddenly I noticed that I no longer receive mail into my inbox and the sent box was also frozen to that point. I can however still send more photos but had to go to my PC to receive my emails as I c.c. myself into all the emails I sent. Is the ipad jammed because I sent too many phtos at one time?

When i send a contact by email the email is received but without the contact info.

Can anyone help. it seems to work ok when i MMS but not on the email. the email is received but does not contain the contact info.

I have the same problem. Sought to insert a pdf into Apple Mail after editing a form pdf and only the blank form shows. I didn't use Preview to generate the form, just Acrobat. And, the filled in form inserts perfectly into an email when I use Outlook for Mac. Problem only with Apple Mail.

My o2 email will receive, but not send. I've got other email accounts on the ipad & they all work OK. The o2 mail account used to work properly, but I needed to remove the account & since I've put it back on, it won't work on my ipad. Works ok on android mobile phone. I've checked the settings & spoken to o2, but they couldn't solve! It may be since I've joined the cloud? Any advice, gratefully received. Thanks.

Recheck the settings once again. There is something wrong. And it seems to happen to O2 people with some regularity. Google o2 mail settings and you will get a page with the details. Pay close attention to the port setting, you may need to change it on the pad, and that may be the problem.

We use ntlworld as our home broadband provider and main email address. In my experience ntl doesn't usually allow sending of email except on its own network which is why yours works at home. My iPhone is set up to send my ntl email using my second email account's smtp setting (in my case is is a mac.com account and I haven't found any network this doesn't work on to send email).
So my advice is to get yourself another email account with a different provider like yahoo or google, then use the new provider smtp address to send your ntl email on your iPhone.

That was part of it. I did an end-around by setting up an alternate outgoing (send) server which was the same as the primary, identical settings, name, password. I deselected the primary and used only the secondary. Reboot as you suggested and Voila! Something must have been corrupted in the primary.
