  • Email/share links in Safari open Chrome browser

I recently switched to Safari as my default browser after many years using Chrome, which has become buggy and unreliable. My problem in Safari is that clicking on an email link, which is supposed to bring up my default email (Gmail), instead opens the Chrome browser. The only option under "Share" for "email this page, is the Chrome icon.
I cannot find anything in settings allowing me to change the default browser for external email links. The only relevant field is Extensions, in where the Chrome icon represents the mail server, but as you see below, along with AirDrop and Messages, the boxes are inactive.
So my question is, how do I prevent Chrome from opening every time I try to email from, or "share" a page?

From the Mail menu bar, select
Mail ▹ Preferences... ▹ General ▹ Default email reader: Mail
If you don't use Mail, haven't set it up, and don't want to, then you'll have to enter fake data in the the  Add Accountdialogs and hold down the option key when you click Continue. Alternatively, you may be able to set the preference in the mail client you do use.

  • Email links won't open in Safari - keeps resetting to Mail

    OS X Mavericks
    Safari 7.0
    Mail 7.0
My email links in Safari were opening in Chrome. I opened Mail, went to Mail > Preferences > General and changed 'Default email reader' to Safari. Then my email links opened in Mail! Went back to Mail > Preferences and it was reset back to Mail. Safari will not stick. I changed it to Firefox, that stuck. I set it back to Google Chrome, that stuck. But when I set it to Safari, it sticks only as long until I click on an email link in any browser, then it resets back to Mail.

Do you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro installed? If so, that is the problem.
You need to quit Safari, start the applicable program(s) you have, go to Preferences > Internet and uncheck the box where it says "Display PDF in browser using:". Then go to Users/username/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and remove the Adobe PDF plugin. Restart Safari and try view a PDF in the browser.

  • Email links in safari go to chrome

when I click an email link it goes to Chrome instead of Mail.app
I'm having a brain **** where do I correct this?
    Buko

Guess I answered my own question -- you can enter fake email info to set up an account in Mail in order get to Preferences.  However, when I set the default email reader to Safari, then clicked a mailto: link, it opened Mail.  When I checked Preferences again the default was set back to Mail.  So that actually didn't work.
What did work was an extension for Safari called Mailto:.  Now whenever I click a mailto: link, it composes a new Gmail message using Safari.

  • Email links in Safari

When I click on an email link in Safari, it opens Apple Mail for me to write an email. But I do not use Apple Mail anymore. I use yahoo mail with Safari. How do I get Safari to stop opening Apple Mail?

I changed default email reader in Mail to Safari, closed Mail preferences, quit Mail. And when clicking on a mail link in Safari, it still opens Mail. And when I check the preference, it has reverted back to Mail as the Default email reader. What do I do to get it to stop openinng Mail. I want to use Yahoo mail in Safari for my email.

  • I'm using outlook email, Firefox 11 and Windows 7 Home but email links do not open Firefox even though it's my default browser, Fix?

My email links fail to open Firefox 11. They used to last week but IE updated and now links in my outlook emails do not open Firefox 11 even though it's my default browser. When I change to IE as the default the links open IE.
Your assumptions about my browser, operating system and others are correct.
    VERY FRUSTRATING. HELP, Please

    Hi,
Please also try this: Windows Control Panel > '''Default Programs''' > '''Associate a file type or protocol with a program''' > look for '''.url''' > '''Change program''' to Firefox.
edit: You have to restart Outlook or sometimes reboot the system for the change to take effect. Thanks AUnderhill.

  • Email link in AS2 opens Safari window

Does anyone know how to stop a browser window opening up when the email link is clicked? I'm using a button with this script:
    on(release){
        getURL("mailto: [email protected] ");
    Thanks

Try testing it live on a server.  Often when testing locally opening other windows/applications doesn't behave as desired.

  • Clicking on External Link in Safari Opens New Tab

I think it has to do with one of the preferences I've set within Safari but I just can't put a finger on which one.
Basically, I reinstalled Yosemite 10.10.3 on my MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2013) about a week ago. And then I tinkered with Safari preferences.
Since then, whenever I click on an external link, for example, an email address, Safari opens a New Tab instead of launching my Mail app.
Not sure how to do undo this.

From the Mail menu bar, select
Mail ▹ Preferences... ▹ General ▹ Default email reader: Mail
If you don't use Mail, you may be able to set the preference in the mail client you do use.

  • Email link will not open on desktop computer

Hello. I am wanting to know why I can open email links from Shopify on my tablet and cell phone but not on my Desktop computer.  Thank you in advance for your help with this.

    Hello @flowerjg24,
I have read your post on how you are not able to open links from Shopify on your desktop computer. Have you tried using a different Internet browser to open the link, such as Google Chrome or Firefox? If so, what were the results? I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. Below is a is an HP Support document that will demonstrate how to find your computer's product number.

  • Email link from safari not sending

    Ipad 2 with ios 7.1.2
If I try to email a link from safari, an email window pops up, I can access my contacts, I can send the email. But although it appears to send, it does not arrive and is  not listed in the sent items.
I have tried rebooting my ipad,  reinstalling my gmail account, clearing the safari cache, but nothing is working. Please help!
    Thanks

I have the same problem. Mail is the default mail program. iPhoto, Aperture, and excel all send to and open Mail with the attachments.
    Things I have tried:
    repaired permissions, safe boot
I have deleted the mail account and created a new one. email works (send and receive)
    Reinstalled Mail using Pacifist
Reinstalled Safari 4 and it did not work; updated to 4.02 did not fix problem
Lastly I did an archive and install 10.5.6 did not work. All updates to 10.5.7 still not working
What file is corrupted to cause this so I can get rid of it, or edit it without erasing the drive?
    Thanks for the help

  • Clicking email-links doesn't open "new message" window

    Hi,
When I click email links, safari doesn't take me to the "new message" window. It activates safari: the program comes on in the dock and the text next to the apple logo changes to "mail", but I don't get the "new message" window

You're welcome. Glad to have helped.

  • Every link in Safari opens in new tab or window

I'd like to find a way so that every time I click a link in Safari, instead of opening in the current window, it opens in either a new tab or window.
I understand that I can hold down "Command" while I click a link and it will open in a new window or tab, and that I can right click or control click and select "open in new window" from the contextual menu, but I don't want to do that.
I simply want every link that I click to open in a new window. Every time.
I'm willing to dig deep into the system and get under the hood if necessary.
    Thanks,
    Darryl

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you asking me to post my Safari preferences? Or something else?
    Anyway, 10.6.6 running Safari 5.0.3.
Tab preferences - "Open pages inn tabs instead of windows" = "Always".
"Command-click opens link in a new tab" - checked
"When a new tab or window opens, make it active" - checked
"Confirm before closing multiple tabs or windows" - checked.

  • Email links will not open in my Firefox browser

Hello, Using my Firefox web browser when I am in my emails. Inside the email body and there is a link to click on inside. The Firefox will not open the link page, it comes up as an error. However, if i right click and open in a new window. Firefox will then open the link and send me to that page.
I then decided to try IE and when I double click the link within the email body, it opens it up with no issues at all.
    Firefox is my default browser.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Two days ago

    Hello,
I have checked all the above trouble shooting suggestions. I still am having the same problem.
I use Firefox as my default browser and have it checked off as per your last email. I am only having this problem in my emails. I cannot open url links in my emails anymore by double clicking on the mouse. I have to right click the mouse and choose open in a new window. It will then open that url link and take me to the website link.
If I try this by double clicking the url link, it takes me to a blank page with this "https://mail.go....er=ohh14rw8mbn4"
at the top of the page in the tab.

  • Email links in Safari don't work

When I click on an email link in a website (using Safari 6.1.5), my computer links to TopSites instead of my Mail Account. How do I get the links to go to Mail?

    It could be mlaware ...
Download and run the adware removal tool here >   The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide
Easy, safe, and only takes a minute or two.
Then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If no malware is found, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
