Email links don't launch browser

After the new version of Firefox wouldn't work, I went back to the old version. Now internet links in my email will not launch the browser. The links will work only if Firefox is already open. Firefox is my default browser. What else do I need to do?
Thanks

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried and I may not be doing it properly, but it didn't solve the problem. I think I deleted the new version and I changed the default to Safari which worked with the email links, then changed back to Firefox and it wouldn't work.

  • How do I make gmail the default email program for email links in the Mozilla browser?

In previous versions of Mozilla I was able to click an email link , for example, on a craigslist listing and it would automatically open my gmail login page or if I was already logged in it would prompt a new email (compose) with the email field already populated with the email link from which it was prompted. Hard to explain but currently it initiates an Outlook Express session which I don't use or even have configured. How is this process edited to work the way I would like it to? Thanks

  • Email links don't open firefox

I noticed yesterday that when clicking on a link in an email, nothing happened. I thought it was just a problem with the link.
Today, another email link would open firefox for a split second and then firefox would close.
I also noticed that clicking on some links in web pages while using firefox would cause firefox to shut down immediately.
I tried creating a new profile and I tried disabling all addons, but didn't help.
I think this all started when I allowed firefox to install the latest update a couple of days ago.
Any ideas how to fix this problem will be appreciated.

Open Windows Internet Explorer. Have it declared as the default browser.
If you want, you can turn off the "check if default" option.
Now open Firefox, and have it declared as the default.

  • Email links not opening in browser

When there is a web link inside an email, it will not link to the browser if I left click on it and also won't open if I right click on it and click on "open link in browser". The cursor blinks but nothing happens.
I am able to right click and choose "copy link location", then paste it in the browser and get to it that way.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

  • Email links don't take me to Thunderbird

    Hi
I've set Thunderbird as my default email client. I have three accounts and they all work fine. However if I click on a link to someone's email address in another application, it opens up MS "Mail" in Windows 8.1. I've tried deleting accounts in Windows but it warns me that deleting my main email address account, will affect my loging in to Windows?
So far I have been copying and pasting others' email addresses into Thunderbird but that's a bit of a work around.
Can anyone help please? (Not a seasoned user).

Sounds like a Windows problem, not Thunderbird.
Here is a help page from Windows.

    Windows XP

    Hi wayner,
    Thank you for your question:
In the Firefox > Options menu under Applications, search for "mailto". From there select the action drop down and select the action.
If you click on the details of the action it should have https://compose.mail.yahoo.com/?To=%s
This macro should take you to a compose mail if you are logged in.

  • Why will Safari not launch Eudora when I click on an email link?

It used to work just fine. However, for about a month now, when I click on "send an email" at my Real Estate Board site, Safari is replaced by a white screen, then reverts back to the "send an email" page. Eudora doesn't launch. Mail doesn't launch. I have Internet Explorer for Mac installed as well, and it won't connect via my e-mail programs either.
I also run Virtual PC, and under it, Internet Explorer. The Windoze version still works.
    What gives?

    Let me restate my problem.
If I run Safari, click on the email link which should launch Eudora and open a "New Message" window, the screen goes white for a second and reverts back to the link screen but nothing happens. If I launch Eudora first, then in Safari click on the link, still nothing happens.
If I run Explorer for Mac v 5.2.3 it will neither launch Eudora nor open a New Message window if Eudora is already launched.
If I run FireFox, and I click on the link, Eudora will launch and a New Message window opens as it used to do in Safari.
I could really use some help here. Any ideas? Why should I have to use 3rd party browsers?

  • Firefox 3.0.6 will not launch from email links

I've been using Thunderbird for email with Firefox as my browser for years.
I recently downloaded & installed Firefox 3.0.6 via up2date. Now clicking on links in Thunderbird emails no longer launches Firefox (as it did before). What has Oracle modified in its version of Firefox that prevents it from working with Thunderbird? (and please, don't tell me to use Evolution - yuck!) Thanks for any help.

  • Thunderbird email links will no longer open on the Firefox browser. (I have to use another browser to open email links.)

Since a recent update (either for Firefox or Thunderbird, don't remember which), links in my Thunderbird emails will not open in Firefox. I can't even open the Thunderbird "help" link. In desperation, I installed Opera, and the email links work perfectly well. There seems to be some sort of disconnect between Thunderbird and Firefox.

I fixed this myself. You have to ensure that Firefox is the default browser. In the Firefox menu (maybe under Edit if you are running Linux) go to Preferences. Click "Advanced" then in the "General" tab click the button toward the bottom that says "Check now" and Firefox will automatically check if it is the default browser and, if it is not, ask you if you want to make it default. Answer "yes" to this question.

  • Stop email links automatically opening in browser

I accidently selected the option to always open links from my email in the toshiba internet browser and now everything opens there instead of having an option to open in an app instead. How can I reset this to give me an option of opening it "once" or "always" again as it's really annoying.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Oh, I'm sorry. I should have seen this was posted in the Excite board.
In the Settings app, select "Apps" on the left. On the right section, there will be different tabs. It's kind of difficult to notice at first that there are tabs, but it should be on the "DOWNLOADED" tab at first. To the right of that is the word "RUNNING." Tap that to change to that tab, and now you should see "ALL" to the right of that. Tap that one. In the "ALL" tab, scroll down and find the application that's currently opening. Tap it. I assume it's "Browser." Now scroll down to the section called "LAUNCH BY DEFAULT" and tap the "Clear defaults" button.

  • Easiest way to launch a link to the default browser from java?

Is there an easy way to launch a link in the default browser from java? Ideally I would have a graphic in a cell that when clicked on would open a new window/tab in the default browser. This would be done in SWT, but it might be similar to swing, awt, etc. Any ideas?

If you are using Java 1.5 or earlier, I found the browser launch code found here to work fairly well: http://www.centerkey.com/java/browser

  • Safari 'Email/Email Link to this page' launches Mail Again

If I select Share > Email/Email Link to this page' in Safari, and Mail is already running, rather than just creating a new message, it launches a second instance of Mail (same executable though) and then creates a new message.
I have already rebuilt Launchservices with Cocktail, to no avail.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • With no Firefox window open, I can't launch a new one. Or click on an email link and launch a window. This started when I upgraded to 5. Now I downgraded to 4 again and problem persists

I upgraded to Firefox 5, then noticed when a window was open I couldn't launch another one. Or launch into Firefox off an email link. Or open a new window if there was none open.
So I downgraded back to 4. Problem persists.

Uninstall the ones you know about, yes.
As regards the others, it's difficult to say. All you can do is to disable them all via Safe Mode (checkmark "Disable all add-ons", then "Make changes and restart") and then re-enable them one by one checking each time until the problem recurs. Laborious I know, but the only sound way of doing it I'm afraid.

    2 issues:
    1. Firefox crashes every time I try to open QuickBooks online. I have submitted numerous crash reports.
    2. When I click an email link on a web site, it opens a blank FF browser instead of an email program. I have set the default to Microsoft Outlook and also tried changing it to Gmail. Each time I click an email link on any web site, however, it just opens up a blank page instead of one of my email programs.

I'm not clear on where you are seeing that text. When I view Google's cached page from the page found in this search
    https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Asitetrail.com%2Faskearth.com
It doesn't match yours exactly. There is an iframe with a Google map in it in the "Hosting Analysis" section, which in your pasted page seems to be the "Site Server" section.
Which Google site did you search?

Go into FF Preferences & set it to be your default browser.  This way when you click on an email link in Chrome, FF will open.
