Email links in safari go to chrome

when I click an email link it goes to Chrome instead of Mail.app
I'm having a brain **** where do I correct this?

Guess I answered my own question -- you can enter fake email info to set up an account in Mail in order get to Preferences. However, when I set the default email reader to Safari, then clicked a mailto: link, it opened Mail. When I checked Preferences again the default was set back to Mail. So that actually didn't work.
What did work was an extension for Safari called Mailto:. Now whenever I click a mailto: link, it composes a new Gmail message using Safari.

I changed default email reader in Mail to Safari, closed Mail preferences, quit Mail. And when clicking on a mail link in Safari, it still opens Mail. Since a couple of Safari updates ago Im suddenly getting the Chrome browser launched whenever I click on someone to email off the Safari site Im browsing. Anyone have a clue what might be happening?

When I click on an email link in a website (using Safari 6.1.5), my computer links to TopSites instead of my Mail Account. How do I get the links to go to Mail?

EMail link in Safari

When I select an eMail link in a SAFARI window it defaults to .MAC mail and directs me to set up a .MAC mail account. I want SAFARI to default to my eMail account which is ENTOURAGE. I do not want a .MAC mail account. I have been unable to find out how to get SAFARI to default to ENTOURAGE. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks

Helpful suggestions from Ken.
To supplement Ken's very helpful suggestions, you'll need to establish a Mail Account. In the initial drop down menu, select POP. Then go through the various screens. Where the installer asks for your providers info, just enter the "example" information. You'll probably get a prompt telling you "couldn't find server" or something to that effect. Doesn't matter. Select "continue".
Once established, you'll have access to the Preferences file>General where you can select your e-mail account.
Seems like this feature ought to be part of System Preferences, rather than Mail. You may want to send feedback to Apple about this situation.

Email link from safari not sending

Ipad 2 with ios 7.1.2
If I try to email a link from safari, an email window pops up, I can access my contacts, I can send the email. But although it appears to send, it does not arrive and is not listed in the sent items.
I have tried rebooting my ipad, reinstalling my gmail account, clearing the safari cache, but nothing is working. Please help!

I have the same problem. Mail is the default mail program. iPhoto, Aperture, and excel all send to and open Mail with the attachments.
Things I have tried:
repaired permissions, safe boot
I have deleted the mail account and created a new one. email works (send and receive)
Reinstalled Mail using Pacifist
Reinstalled Safari 4 and it did not work; updated to 4.02 did not fix problem
Lastly I did an archive and install 10.5.6 did not work. All updates to 10.5.7 still not working
What file is corrupted to cause this so I can get rid of it, or edit it without erasing the drive?

Emailed link from Safari now appears BELOW signature in Yosemite

In Yosemite, when trying to email a link from Safari, the link now appears BELOW my (long) signature. It used to appear ABOVE it. Checking or unchecking the box in Mail Preferences>Signatures titled "Place signature above quoted text" has no effect on this. Since signature is long, the link gets lost down at the bottom of the long signature. Ideas?

Do you have the option set to place all attachments at the end of the message (Edit menu, Attachments)?
I don't know if that is what is happening, just a guess.
By pasting in a HyperLink, you are creating an attachmnt. Email is purely text-based. Anything not pure text is an attachment.

Cannot send email links from Safari share button in iOS8

Hi All:
This is a new one for, and not something I have experienced since link sharing was introduced. I am running iOS 8.1.1 on my iPhone 6. When I find a web page I want to share in Safari, I tap the Share icon, and the share sheet comes up. I select Mail, and a pre-populated email sheet appears. I can type text in the Message or Subject fields, but if I try to select a different sender address or enter a recipient address, the email message simply disappears. it's not in Mail trash or Drafts. It's just gone. This does not happen with my iPad mini 3 at all. Also does not happen on any of my family members' phones.
Obviously, I can Select,Copy,Paste the link into a manual email message. But sharing a link via email does not work in my phone. Any ideas besides a restore?

Email Link to Safari - Close Safari - Directly Back to Email

Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this.
Imagine I am browsing through my emails in Mac Mail. I click on a link in an email and Safari automatically opens and displays the relevant page either by opening a new Safari window or opening a new tab. When I have finished with the web page I close that tab of Safari (or close the whole Safari window) and I want to be able to get straight back to reading my emails. As it is, I either get the next, last used Safari tab or another Safari window rather than my email app. Is there a setting somewhere that I can use to go straight back to my email app?

My email links in Safari were opening in Chrome. I opened Mail, went to Mail > Preferences > General and changed 'Default email reader' to Safari. Then my email links opened in Mail! Went back to Mail > Preferences and it was reset back to Mail. Safari will not stick. I changed it to Firefox, that stuck. I set it back to Google Chrome, that stuck. But when I set it to Safari, it sticks only as long until I click on an email link in any browser, then it resets back to Mail.

Do you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro installed? If so, that is the problem.
You need to quit Safari, start the applicable program(s) you have, go to Preferences > Internet and uncheck the box where it says "Display PDF in browser using:". Then go to Users/username/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and remove the Adobe PDF plugin. Restart Safari and try view a PDF in the browser.

Hi I am using Windows 7 and recently switched to Safari, when I try to open an email link in Safari it takes me to google chrome, how do I fix this? I switched my default browser to safari and looked in settings for any mail options but cant find it, any ideas? Thanks.

Hi. Hoping to find some help as I can't seem to enter the right query into Google.
Up until the other day I could click an email link in Safari and it would automatically open Mail so I could type my message. Now it doesn't work like that. It wants me to copy and paste the email address into Mail.
I've been through the Preferences in both Safari and Mail. Everything seems to be ok. Just can't seem to find the solution.
It's not that big a pain unless I'm cruising Craigslist or something like that.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Clicking an e-mail link in Safari doesn't open default mail client

Eudora has been my default mailer for many years. Yet after the last Safari update a few days ago, the browser suddenly ignores Eudora's default status although it is clearly checked in Eudora's preferences. Instead, Safari thinks Mail is my default mailer. So I dutifully open Mail--I never use it--and check its preferences, which mysteriously assign it as default mailer. I change that setting to Eudora. And the next time I try to click an email link in Safari, Mail pops up again as the default mailer. If I check both email client preferences at that point, both are still set to be my default mailer even though I changed Mail to NOT be so.
How do I make Safari/Mail stop overriding my setting of Eudora as default mailer?

HI,
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If you can set the default Mail app, move the .plist file to the Trash.
Also, from the Safari menu bar click Safari / Empty Cache.
