Email Locks Up, Especially in Firefox, Generally Slow

For a few weeks now, my email has been locking up when using Firefox, but sometimes with IE.The first thing I notice is that the page is slooow to load. When it does, and I try to sign in to view email, I often cannot scroll - the new messages or the messages themselves, once opened.Refreshing the page works sometimes. But for the most part, it just stays locked up until it feels like unlocking. Totally frustrating.I've consulted with my computer's manufacturer, having their techies pour over every file and folder, updating Adobe, drivers. Everything. And the problem persists. Also, when trying to send or open an email, I will occasionally get the "Server Unavailable-Try Later" (or something like that, probably not the verbatim notice) error message. What is going on? Anyone else having this issue? It's so frustrating. Thanks.

For starters, have you cleared your browser cache?

  • Photoshop crashes, unable to perform Software Update, general slowness.

I am writing on behalf of a colleague at work.
He is using a brand new iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. It is running Mac OS X 10.5.5 and he is trying to update to 10.5.6 to correct some problems he's been encountering.
He has been experiencing repeated crashes with Adobe Photoshop and Mozilla Firefox, as well as general slowness. The biggest problem happens when trying to perform a Software Update.
"The installer encountered an unknown error that failed the install. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
The Mac then freezes and has to be force shut down. After that it sometimes will not start again either.
We have run a permissions verify and repair, and errors were corrected but the problem continues. We also ran a disk verify and it found errors, but when we tried to correct the errors it said that there were no errors.
A memory test in the Apple Hardware Test showed no errors either. We are running an hour-long test now.
We suspect there may be a hardware problem. Could anybody please advise on any other things we could try?

The computer answered this question for us. Today it will not boot.
It is going to be serviced, I suspect a logic board problem.

  • Firefox is slow and hangs watching Youtube videos. Safari is OK. What's the word, Developers?

Since late Oct 2011, my Firefox had been hanging while watching videos on Youtube. Any mouse action while a video is playing causes Firefox to hang (spinning wheel).
It turns out that I had caught the beta release of the new Gray Youtube interface - where the backgrounds of all youtube pages are gray.
I got myself back to the old interface by deleting all Youtube cookies.
I no longer have hangs. Page transitions are also much quicker, as was before.
Is there anyone else who has experienced the "new" interface, and problems?
If you do have the new youtube interface, but no problems, then I have more digging to do.
    Update Dec 2, 2011:
I have the problem again now that Youtube has released their "new look" interface to everyone.
The problem is generally slow Firefox responses to mouse actions while watching Youtube videos. Firefox will hang completely 2-4 minutes into any Youtube video. (The video does continue to play a-ok.) FF becomes responsive again when the video ends playing.
Problem doesn't occur when I watch a youtube video right after starting FF after having "quit" it. Problem begins occur after FF has been running for a while (visiting other websites?) Is this a symptom of FF collecting some kind of crud in memory or disk?
My old Safari (3.2.1) doesn't have any problems.
As far as I can see, both Firefox and Safari on my system use the same Adobe Flash Player.
So, this isn't a problem with Youtube, Flash Player, or my system, but a problem with Firefox (3.6.24) !?
Anybody (FF developers) have any ideas? I want to keep using FF!

    Thanks Cor-el.
The problem existed in safe mode as well.
Changing Flash Player hardware acceleration had no effect.
The problem is gone now, after getting the standard youtube interface back.
What I'd like to know is whether any others who are unwitting testers of the new Youtube interface are experiencing problems, and, if not, what is their system? Which versions of Firefox and Flash Player are they using?

  • Firefox is often "unresponsive";what is 'unresponsive script?why is firefox so SLOW in response to my site requests?

A friend installed Mozilla Firefox for me about 3 months ago to replace Kaspersky which always slowed my computer responses. Now Firefox is slow at responding to looking for my e-mail, at searching for info, and often the message"NOT RESPONDING" following Mozilla Firefox and nothing happens for several minutes. Also, "Unresponsive Script" comes up with the option to cancel or continue--what is "Script" and "WHY"? I have Windows 7 and anE-Machines modem. Also, I am told often that my Anti-Virus is out-of-date even tho' I have it set to update daily at 11:00 pm and I am sure to have the computer ON from 11 to 12 PM each night. How do I fix this? I am a computer 'dummie' and don't understand all the terms and phrases used, but I try. Please help.

Unfortunately Firefox 6 is not as good as it should be.
I recommend you to use latest version of Firefox 3.6.x ,cause it's long release but fire fox 4 , 5 and 6 are short releases and not as good as they should be.

  • Why is Mozilla Firefox so slow? It drives me nuts.

Why is Mozilla Firefox sooooo slow? It's driving me nuts.
And why can’t it ever connect me to my email on the first try?
And why does Firefox need to be rebooted so often?
    It's all very frustrating.
    Please respond.
    Thanks

I took my computer in for cleanup yesterday and the tech told me not to resort to using safe mode, he uses Chrome and said all the features in these files need to stay there. He says he thinks Firefox needs to do some tweeking on their end because he's had so many people complaining of how slow it is. The newer the version, the slower it gets. Maybe if they quit adding so much junk you don't need, like the earlier versions, but can't download them anymore. So I'm doing like my technician and jakfak are doing, NOT using Firefox until they fix it. Chrome is my baby now.

  • How do I change the email address associated with a Firefox account?

I will be purchasing a new computer and want to sync my Firefox account so the new PC will have my bookmarks. The problem is the email address associated with my Firefox account hasn't been active in over a year. How do I go about changing the associated email address so I can sync my account and transfer settings to a new PC?

As of right now, it is not possible to change the email address connected to a sync account.<br>
Please create a new sync account with the new email address.
You can delete your out-dated sync account by logging in [https://account.services.mozilla.com/ here].

  • Why firefox has slow response when i 'm saving pictures to hard disk?

I have windows 7 64 bit and Mozila firefox ver. 17.0.1. I have the following problem. When i try to save a picture from a site (right mouse click and save as) to the hard disk of my pc, the response of firefox is slow. It takes about 6 to 10 seconds. I thought it was a matter of file size but it proved that it was irrelevant, because it was happening to pictures from 10kb to 500kb. I did the following:
    - clear history
    - clear cache from firefox and the folder ''cache'' in my profile
    - delete the files downloads.sqlite and localstore.rdf
    - i changed the ''browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone'' and ''services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone'' to false
    - clear the downloads window
    - disable all add-ons
After all these, the problem still remained
Then i started firefox in safe mode (help --> Restart with Add-ons Disabled...). The problem still remained.
Then i disabled Microsoft security essentials (real time protection) and windows firewall. I do not have any other anti-virus or firewall on my pc. Nothing happened.
Then i created a new profile (reset firefox). Nothing happened. So, one last attempt was left to do. Reboot with safe mode. So i followed the following steps.
i ran msconfig and disabled ''Microsoft Security Client'' from start up tab and ''Microsoft Antimalware Service'' from services tab. So i did a safe mode boot with network support and windows firewall, disabled. Guess what. Nothing happened.
I noticed that when i was trying to save pictures, during the process, there was a significant hard disk activity (the led indicator of hard disk activity was lighting constantly) and firefox on the left upper corner, shown the message ''not responding'' for about 6 to 10 seconds. You understand that saving a picture of 19kb in 10 seconds is not normal.
Is this problem has to do with the cache? The hard disk is an SSD (solid state drive). Do you think it would be better to redirect cache to memory? (i have 6GB total RAM). This problem was also happening to previous versions of firefox, but i think that with this version, the problem is more frequent. It is not happening with every picture, but it happens with more than 65% of the pictures.
It also happens when loading a web page, but it might be a matter of a heavy web page that uses many resources of my system, during loading. The problem is the same. Constant hard disk activity and it takes time to load the web page. The problem with web page loading, is not as frequent as with saving pictures.
I think it is a matter of cache management. What is your opinion?
    Thank you.

The cause to my problem was the jump lists, that Windows 7 introduced. There are two kinds of jump lists, automatic and custom. Automatic jump lists were causing the slow down of firefox through window explorer. Finally it was a problem of windows explorer and not firefox. Windows 7 introduced many new features that cause slow system performance. Anyway the solution to the problem is to follow the steps:
    1. Open mycomputer and on the address bar paste the path: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
    2. Press ctrl + a
    3. press shift + delete and delete everything inside the folder
I think that the respective jump list of windows explorer is the one that starts with 1b4dd67f29cb1962, in case you don't want to delete every jump list in the folder. If you use firefox, download a file and then go to the above mentioned path and view files by date. The most recent file should be the correspondent with firefox.

  • How do I move my Outlook emails, currently viewed on Mozilla Firefox v26, to an external hard drive while I format my C drive?

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit version. I have been viewing my Outlook email and contacts via Mozilla Firefox v26. However I have got to format my C drive to get rid of a malfunction. How do I move my emails and my contacts from the C drive to an external drive? I need to do this so as not to lose all my email information. I would then want to restore it to Mozilla Firefox 26 after I have formatted the C drive and reloaded Firefox? I would very grateful for any detailed information about how I go about this!
    Nick Bannister

Firefox doesn't store your email or contacts, it displays that data from the webmail server that you connect to with Firefox.

  • OS X 10.8.4 Flash Player locks up OS in Firefox 27.0.1

Flash Player locks up OS in Firefox 27.0.1, Flash is ok in Chrome.
I go to Youtube and play a video in Firefox and the image is scrabbled; pixelated shows a lot of green and screws up the whole system, if I use chrome flash is fine. The Firefox version is 12.0.0.44, I have tried earlier versions but I get the same result.
This is most annoying because Firefox is my main browser.

Chrome has ha separate plug-in from Firefox. Functions independently of it. Green screen (in Windows) is almost always caused by out dated or corrupted video drivers. Not something common to Macs since the hardware is proprietary, and the Drivers are in the BSD subsystem.
Gotta ask, how come you haven't run the 10.8.5 update? It came out October 14.

  • Links from email will not open in firefox

When I click on a link in my email it takes me to firefox but nothing opens. It opens with no problems when going from gmail.
    Thank you.

I am having the same problem - remedies attempted - check FFx is default browser (yes), software update and computer restart, reboot Mail * 4, check all Mail settings for options (none I can see ), check all FFx settings for same (none I can see), no result, look in here and see that other folks having same issue - will Apple respond (I will book a support session by phone as I have applecare. Mail also used to mark mails as read once I had selected them - now it insists that I double click and open them before it changes the marking - pain in the butt ...

  • Firefox has slow start up & I have the latest version. IE, Chrome, AOL start right away. Firefox takes up to 10 minutes.

Firefox has slow start up & I have the latest version. IE, Chrome, AOL start right away. Firefox takes up to 10 minutes.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == when updated to 3.6

You may need to use '''[[Safe Mode]]''' (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes <u>'''before'''</u> starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
    See:
    '''[[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]'''
    '''[[Troubleshooting plugins]]'''
    '''[[Basic Troubleshooting]]'''
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling <u>'''one at a time'''</u> until the problem reappears. <u>'''You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change'''</u> via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

  • I'm using outlook email, Firefox 11 and Windows 7 Home but email links do not open Firefox even though it's my default browser, Fix?

My email links fail to open Firefox 11. They used to last week but IE updated and now links in my outlook emails do not open Firefox 11 even though it's my default browser. When I change to IE as the default the links open IE.
Your assumptions about my browser, operating system and others are correct.
    VERY FRUSTRATING. HELP, Please

    Hi,
Please also try this: Windows Control Panel > '''Default Programs''' > '''Associate a file type or protocol with a program''' > look for '''.url''' > '''Change program''' to Firefox.
edit: You have to restart Outlook or sometimes reboot the system for the change to take effect. Thanks AUnderhill.
