"Message could not be moved to mailbox Trash" Error message
When I delete an email, either single or multiple, I get the message "Unable to Move Message" with the explanation "The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash....OK". Other than that it all seems to work OK and the emails do get deleted but how do I stop the message popping up every time?
Thanks in advanceFrog129 wrote:

I've had a similar problem, though it doesn't seem to happen with 4.2 - I think this was due to the fact that you can't do much with Exchange connections (e.g. for Google Mail) when you are not online. In iOS 4.2 the delete button stays grey'ed out when you are not online. -
my iphone won't allow me to trash old email messages -- I get the little window that says "Unable to Move Message -- The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash." AT&T can't help me -- no one else has this problem, even though we're all on the same server from my company. I have restored to factory settings, but it didn't help. My email account settings are correct, the same as on my computers, and I can trash old messages on them.
What do I do now?I have had a similar problem recently and followed advice here. Specifically, I used the brute force approach. As suggested by this site, I strongly urge you to backup your mailbox before trying this fix - just to be on the safe side.

The message could not be moved to the mailbox trash - Exchange Account
Hi All,
Not sure if it has anything to do with the update.
Mail shows 1 unread message all the time, I've read it, still shows unread. I try to delete it and get the error "the message could not be moved to the mailbox trash", same error if I try to move it to the trash folder.
Message has been long deleted from my actual INBOX via Outlook weeks ago.
I've seen the suggestions to touch the trash settings under MAIL > Advanced, but there is no such option for Exchange accounts.I found an answer that has worked for me and others in another thread. It sounds pointless but just do it, all of a sudden I can delete mail now.
1. Go to Settings
2. Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3. Click your email adress.
4. Scroll down and click "Advanced"
5. Click "Deleted Mailbox"
6. Click "Spam" (at the bottom) then back to "Trash" (at the top).
That's it. It should now work again. -
I cannot empty my 'trash' ... it comes up with ... "Unable to Move Message ... The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash"
I went into Settings > Mail > 'my account' > advanced > deleted mailbox > Trash (On My iPhone) ... it appears to delete a few items only ... I may try to individually delete 30 items and only 4 go ? help please ...I have the same problem and there is no advanced option. Was this removed in the upgrade to ios 5? I have been chasing a solution to this and the fact I have various duplicate emails appearing in my work account for days now! It seems like I may have to delete my account and re-install. This appears to be a common problem, where is Apple's fix for it?

I get the "Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash". whenever i try deleting from my ipad 2. I am unable to delete from Trash...HELP!
Additional info...I am trying to delete these emails from a Webmail address. the Trash currently has 11 messages and they arent being deleted.Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app via the taskbar : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Another option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If you still can't delete them then go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails. -
Why the following error message "The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash".
Why do I see the following error message?
"Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash".Try closing the Mail app via the multitasking bar and see if you can delete them when you re-open the app : double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then swipe or drag the Mail app's 'screen' up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it then try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails. -
"The message could not be moved to the mailbox Archive" - iPhone 6
I have an iPhone 6 using the standard email app for my work (we use gmail apps), now using the latest iOS 8.1
When I try to swipe to Archive, it doesn't work and says: "Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Archive"
If I switch to 'Delete' instead of 'Archive' it deletes it, but I want to archive. It used to work, yet even before I upgraded my phone and iOS, it's started happening a month or so ago.
I used to never have this issue but it's relatively new. I've tried deleting and reinstalling my mail account and nothing works.
Help please.
ThanksUpdate - I deleted/re-added my account. Same issue. Also, no my Exchange calendar won't sync. Issue appears to be on the Exchange server. I see the following errors in my iPhone log:

The messages could not be moved to the mailbox trash
Hi there.
I bought an iPad 2 yesterday and I just tried to delete a couple of emails but it comes up with the following message: 'Unable to Move Messages. The messages could not be moved to the mailbox trash'
When you click 'OK' the selected emails do actually appear in the trash folder but when you delete them from there, the same message pops up and they immediately appear back in the inbox.
I've searched numerous forums for a solution but all people seem to say is 'empty your trash folder' but it is empty. I've got the same pop3 email account set up on my iPhone 4 and that works fine.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for help.Yes, that's true.

can't delete mail on phone, message says, Unable to move message The message could not be moved to the mailbox trash.
Delete your mail account/s and re-add them.
This is what worked for me but I've read about other solutions that have worked for some people as well:

'The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash' message when deleting
Hello,
I have a 3G and after upgrading to iOS4, whenever I delete messages from an Exchange mailbox on my iPhone, I get the message 'Unable to Move Message - The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash'. Odd part is that the message IS moved to Trash. I also have a gmail account setup and that one works just fine. Really more of an annoyance than an issue, but it's growing more annoying by the minute. Any ideas?
ThanksUpdate - I deleted/re-added my account. Same issue. Also, no my Exchange calendar won't sync. Issue appears to be on the Exchange server. I see the following errors in my iPhone log:

Cannot move messages from mail to trash. Get the following message: messages could not be moved to the mailbox “Trash — “122730.emlx” couldn’t be copied to “Messages” because an item with the same name already exists.
I just started having the same problem but have found no solution.
