Email periodically disappears from POP account

It seems as though some other people are having the same problem but, in searching the discussion group, I couldn't find any answer for how to solve it.
Every now and again, for what appears to be no reason - eg not after a sync, not on any schedule, etc. - the email I have downloaded from the POP server will just disappear on my iPad. I've tried to isolate if it only occurs when there are a lot of emails in my inbox but haven't been able to do so since it seems to be a totally sporadic occurence.
If anybody's figured out why this occurs, I'd sure appreciate an answer.
Thanks.

try rebuilding the entire mail index. quit mail and move the file homedirectory/library/mail/Envelope Index to the desktop. start mail and let it import (that means reindex). see if the messages stay deleted now.

  • Mail disappearing from pop account

I have found that if I read a message in my in basket for my pop account, mail deletes in after about 30 mins... In options I had selected for it to clear the server once a week.... but that should have no effect on the local inboc

The mail isn't necessarily being deleted, just disappearing. Did you check in the Trash for Mail to see if it's been moved there?
If it's not in the Trash:
    Quit Mail.
Go to Home/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file(s).
Restart Mail and wait for it to rebuilt the index, then see if the disappearing Mail reappears. If so, problem solved.
If it doesn't reappear and the problem continues, then I suspect your Mail preferences file is corrupt, in which case you need to do this:
    Quit Mail.
Go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete the com.apple.mail.plist file.
Restart Mail, setup your account(s) and preferences again and Mail will find your existing mailbox. Check to see if the problem goes away; if so, problem solved.

  • Cannot send email from pop account when in 3G, will send in WIFI

I cannot send email from pop account when in 3G, will send in WIFI.
I thought it was the SMTP server first.. but when i config my WIFI, suddenly the emails that i tried to send, left my outbox and sent.
    Any idea's

The SMTP server you are using with Wi-Fi would be the outgoing server of your internet service provider... this is likely why that's working.
SMTP servers specific to a ISP would not work on the 3G network. You would probably need another SMTP server. One from your cell provider?

  • My emails keep disappearing from my MacBook Air, my iPhone

My emails keep disappearing from all devices--MacBook Air, iPhone, iPad as well as our archair Sony VAIO w/Windows XP. We use Comcast, a "POP" account. All settings have been changed to never delete, empty trash after 90 days, etc., per Apple, AT&T and Comcast "techs". To where are they going? Can they be retrieved? Why does this keep happening? How can we prevent this from happening?

Is there a category for the dissappearing emails? Do they have anything in common? Have you tried refreshing the inbox?
Another possiblity is that since Macs and iPhones categorize mail a little differently, try going the the "all mail" section. You can find it under your account mail. That is, instead of going to your inbox, you go under there, where is says "accounts" and shows all your accounts, including the icons for each mail service. There should be a group saying "all mail" if you use google. Let me know if you find the disappearing mails.

  • All my email has disappeared from iCloud.  I did not delete it, and now it's working again, but only from 28 August 2013.  What happened to my old emails? How do I get them back? thanks

Have you checked whether the emails are visible at http://icloud.com ? If they are, it's a problem between your Mac and the website; sign out in System Preferences>iCloud and sign back in again.
If they aren't, then it's a server problem and you need to contact Support. If you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support and you may be asked to pay a fee; if so you should argue that this is a problem they've caused (it's not the first time, by the way) and you shouldn't be charged.

  • Cannot get emails after changing to pop account

Telstra, my internet provider, required me to change my email settings to a pop account. I had no choice in this matter.
I am told that this will gradually happen to all users over the next 12 months....!
BUT..... now  my ipad will not receive or send emails!
I copied over new settings from laptop to ipad as advised.  This did not work.
I then re--synced ipad to laptop....this did not work. I have since found 'online' that there is a problem with ipads
    and 'pop' accounts
Further contact with Telstra informed me that  they are not responsible for other devices and
I will have to pay to get this problem  fixed.  This is a $99 set rate!
Can anyone help me to reconfigure my ipad to receive and send emails?

Did you already try the Mail assistant for iPad?
On thing to keep in mind:
iOS: 'Mailbox Locked', account is in use on another device, or prompt to re-enter POP3 password
What to ask if you're having issues sending, receiving, or configuring Mail
iOS: Unable to send or receive Mail
I have no problems using my POP Mail account on my iPad.
If you have copied the settings from your computer, make sure that all passwords have been added again by you, they might have been removed for security reasons during copy process.
I started from the scratch by adding a new account, to be sure all settings were correct.
Some accounts don't work using SSL, in that case set it up without using SSL

  • HT2497 I am finding that emails are disappearing from my Inbox without explanation.  Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

I am finding that emails are disappearing from my inbox without explanation.  Has anyone any ideas what might be causing this?

I found a fix elsewhere for Mail.app.  I had to remove every sub-folder under INBOX (I moved them to a local folder) and then used the MAILBOX -> REBUILD command on INBOX.  It worked, but now I don't have any of the sub-folders.
I am very disappointed with Apple.  I should never have to do that.  Tens of Billions of dollars in cash, just lying around, and they can't be bothered to make the most basic (and central)  of applications work.

~How do `i retreive these emails.
    ? HELP! J

I found the answer myself - just reinstall the App from the Blackberry web site, and overwrite the existing one when it tells you it is the same version.
Somehow, it reacts with the phone and puts it all back the way it should have been.

  • Why are do my emails keep disappearing from inbox

Why do my emails keep disappearing from my inbox?

Actually you can set it to a 1000.  But anyway i solved my problem. I had to set the days to sync from unlimited to 30 days.

  • TS3899 Why do my emails keep disappearing from my iphone?  These are emails that I have not deleted.

My emails keep disappearing from my inbox even though I have not deleted them.

I have tried to rebuild the mailbox to no avail.  The mailbox behavior says:  Drafts (not checked) store draft messages on the server, Notes (checked) show not in Inbox, Sent (checked) Store sent messages on the server Delete sent messages when (option never selected), Junt (not checked) store junk messages on the server Delete junk messages when (option never selected), Trash (checked) moves deleted messages to the Trash mailbox and (checked)  store deleted messages on the server Permanently erase deleted messages when (one month old option selected).
I have not set up any rules that I know of other than a signature, in the very least I have not changed any.

  • E-mail trickling in from POP account

Subject: Problem receiving mail from POP account
I have been using Mail 1.3.11 for quite some time and never had any problem with it until recently, when I suddenly stopped reliably receiving new mail from my POP account. What happens now is that each time Mail checks for new mail on the server, it says "finding unseen messages" and imports one or two (but usually no) new messages, then it quits searching, even though there are hundreds of new messages on the server. When it does import new messages, it will give a "getting message 1 out of 261" (or some such large number) message, then quit once it has downloaded a very few.
I have tried fixing the problem by completely uninstalling Mail (by moving the application and the mail folders from User-Library, User-Library-Chaches, and User-Library-Scripts, along with the com.apple.mail.plist file from User-Library-Preferences all to another disk) and reinstalling it with a new account, but the problem persists.
I know that this is not a problem with the mail server because I have tried accessing this account with other mail clients and they work just fine, but I'd really rather not switch from Mail since it has so many features that I feel I can't do without.
    iMac 600 G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

This sounds like a problem with the account's Inbox mailbox.
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > this account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > INBOX.mbox.
Move the INBOX.mbox to the Desktop.
When re-launching Mail, a new (and empty) INBOX.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder.
