Email problems on new iMac

Just bought the new iMac 27" retinal display.
1) How do I delete email without opening it?
2) Why do I have a bulk  mail folder?  Is this in lieu of a Trash folder?
3) Why can't I delete the contents of the bulk mail folder all at once?
4) How can I move messages to folders without opening each one?

If you are talking about Apple's Mail email program, read the Mail "Help" guide or.......

  • Problems with new iMac and Adobe Creative Suite 2

Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I am a Graphic Design student and just bought Adobe Creative Suite2. I installed it on my new iMac, and it wouldn't open InDesign or Photoshop although I had no problems with Acrobat and Illustrator. A pop-up window stated that the program "unexpectedly quit". I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times and was on hold with Adobe Tech Support for three hours until I finally gave up. If anyone knows what's going on I would appreciate it!

I dragged the installer from the install disk to my desktop and was more successful in installing problem CS2 apps. Make sure to update everything as well. Some times it takes a restart to get the finickiness out of PS.

  • Migration Assistant problem? : New iMac's iTunes doesn't see the catalog or playlist of my old Mac's songs on an external drive

    So I just migrated from a 10.7.5 iMac 27" from 2009 to 10.9.4 on a 2013 27" iMac with Fusion Drive.
I don't use Time Machine. There are no backups involved here.
Used Ethernet. Only took 20 hours... (BTW, it stayed on "less than 1 minute left" for like 12 hours but luckily I was away and just left it going in hopes it would work... and it did!)
Anyway, back on my OLD iMac, I kept all of my songs on an external drive because my internal drive was too small. So iTunes looked at that drive for the music it was playing. I turned that drive off, even disconnected it, during the migration process because I thought it was confusing it during the first attempt which took 10 hours and nothing happened.
So now it worked, finally. On my new iMac, running Mavericks, I now have two user accounts... the one that was set up when I started the computer the first time, and the new one that transferred over via Migration Assistant. No problem. I can live with that. The only thing is, I would still think the old XML files and library stuff would migrate over... but iTunes doesn't see it. When I open up iTunes, in *either* account, iTunes behaves as if it's brand new. Repeat: the old and new account on the new iMac, both, do not see an old iTunes library which IS on the old iMac. Only the music is on the external drive from what I understand.
I've done this before so I know it's possible. I remember upgrading a long time ago and got iTunes to see my old library... even though some of the music was no longer there. It just puts "!" marks wherever there is no link. I was hoping that that's what I would find when I launched iTunes, but no luck. Even connecting the old hard drive to the new Mac (via USB) doesn't make iTunes all of a sudden "see" the old library. That data doesn't seem to be there. It didn't transfer over. Did it not transfer over because the songs weren't on the internal volume? Should I have left my external hard drive on?
So.... now that I've spent almost 3 days total trying to get this to work, and everything is running... I don't want to have to start over in order to get iTunes to work.  Is there a way I can just drag over some XML files or something from the old computer? I don't want to lose all of the ratings and personal notes and everything.
I should add also that I have like only four songs I've ever actually bought through iTunes. I'm still a bit old fashioned and buy CDs and rip them to Apple Lossless. So I hope it's not an authorization / reauthorization issue because I have like 1400 albums ripped.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    --Jeff

iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one.

  • Problems with new iMac and Maverick: ITunes and Time Machine

Just upgraded from an old to new iMac, migrated my data from my old machine and installed Maverick. Couple of major problems.
    1. My iTunes library won't open. I've been into the library folders but can't work out how to get the old library to load. Decided to try a sync back from my iPhone but while the phone tells me that it has synced with my Mac, the music hasn't moved across.
    2. Time Machine doesn't work. On my old machine I was using an external Omega hard drive but when I plug it into the new Mac it isn't even showing up on the desktop. Clearly there's a connection of some sort as the disc is powering from the Mac. Prior to upgrade, I was getting messages that Time Machine couldn't be updated but I put that down to my failing elderly Mac, which kept crashing, freezing and needed replacing. Perhaps the external drive was dying too.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Problems on new Imac importing photos to iphoto 11 with sds

I have a new 27"imac on which I have already had to erase and reinstall everything when I tried to import my iphoto library (using target discs and firewire), because it turned out that the old iphoto library was corrupted. I rebuilt that library on my macbook pro and iphoto works fine there. (So far.) When I try to import photos from my cards to iphoto on my new imac i get the beach ball and it hangs up with 'preparing to import". Nothing happens, and I have to eject the sd, and force quit iphoto 11. I have downloaded aperture 3 and am wondering if it is better to just import my library to that than worry about iphoto until they fix the bugs? I have already checked and repaired permissions and checked the hard drive, which appears to be ok. Or is there a fix for this problem?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Problems booting new iMac after using Migration Assistant

My new iMac is less than 24 hours old and I have hit a problem I have not encountered on any Mac I have owned in the last 17 years.
My iMac booted beautifully and I hooked up my firewire external hard-drive because I have a partition there that contains a working user account that I want to migrate to my new Mac. I booted Migration Assistant, followed the instructions and waited for all my software, documents, settings etc. to be transferred to the new machine. Migration Assistant hung and it hung the computer. I tried many times with the same result. The last time though my Mac booted and got to the login screen. I did have auto-login selected so I was surprised by this screen. No matter what I did I couldn't get any response so I rebooted and tried again. Same thing. So, I rebooted in safe mode. Once up and running I deleted the migrated account and rebooted. This time I got the default blue swirly background and nothing else and each time I reboot all I get is the background image and nothing else.
    Help please?

I have solved the problem. The issue was to do with StickyBrain v3.6 StickyBrain has a folder called OpenBase in the library/startupitems folder and this causes the problem. If you are a StickyBrain user and wish to continue using it after upgrading to an Intel Mac then you have to also upgrade to v4.0 of StickyBrain.
The issues regarding Migration Assistant remain unsolved but I am happy that my machine is now working properly again. In the end I ignored Migration Assistant and copied all my files and folders manually. At least I was able to say I was doing something really productive on my computer instead of just sitting in front of it with a trance like smile on my face!

  • CS4 Problems on new iMac

    1. I installed CS4 on my new iMac running Mavericks. I ran the updater but the updater can't update itself ("couldn't access disc image") so now I can't update any of the CS4 components. Help!
    2. My RAW files (imported from my previous Mac using Time Machine) all appear as unconverted DNG files. I'd like to avoid spending hours converting them all again. Is this a CS4 problem or maybe a Mac problem? Should I restore my photo library from Time Machine again, now that I've installed CS4? Any ideas on solving these problems would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

CS4 is unsupported under Mavericks. Someone who has successfully done this
may be able to help, but unfortunately you're pretty much on your own here.

  • Migration Assistant Problems with new iMac

I just bought a new iMac. Used firewire to connect to old iMac running 10.5.8. Followed instructions to reboot old iMac holding down the "T". Receiving this error on new iMac: "There are no versions of Mac OSX available on your old mac. You can only transfer information from a mac that has OSX installed." This is obviously not correct. How can I get my new iMac to recognize the old iMac and transfer the data? Thanks

I actually chose option 1 as I was migrating from another mac. I'll try option 2. Another question: Does the fact that I'm migrating from an older G3 (circa 2003) affect the migration?
it could. it should still work though. such migration works ok for most people but but you may have compatibility problems afterward due to differences in architecture and OS versions (what do you have on the G3? 10.3?). I would suggest you choose to migrate your user data only. don't migrate applications. many won't work in snow leopard and can lead to conflicts. also, see this link on potential issues you may face
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=0
that link suggest doing manual migration.
I would still try using migration assistant first. if that gives you problems you can always do wipe and install and migrate manually.

  • Temperature problems with new imac

Anyone having unexpected hangs on the new iMac.  I ran Techtool Pro and it detected a temperature problem.  Anyone else have this.  I have all solid state drives, and 16 gigs of RAM.  G

You have AppleCare, bring it in to an Apple Store to have it diagnosed and repaired.

  • Internet problems with new iMac

We bought a new iMac about a month ago and all of a sudden it's having issues connecting to the internet. I get the exclamation point in the wifi status. The password is correct, and all of our other apple devices connect just fine to the internet. When we unplug and plug the router back in, the imac will connect just fine, but this is really annoying to have to do after every time the computer falls asleep or gets turned on. Any ideas on why this might be happening and how to fix it

    Maybe there's some help here:
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/11/30/resolving-stubborn-wi-fi-connection-problems-in-m ac-os-x/
If not, and the Mac is only a month old, it's worth using your warranty and calling AppleCare - 3 months free phone support, or 3 years if you have the extended AppleCare.

  • Help! Quicktime++ problems with new imac.

I just got a new intel 20" imac. For some reason, none of my web browsers (safari and mozilla) have a problem with Quicktime. Every single website I visit that has video content shows up as a broek Quicktime icon. Is there any fix for this?
The other issue I'm having is that the characters in my address book look mangled. Is there a fix for this as well?
My last issue is my external Lacie Hard drive. It worked perfectly with my old Powermac G4 but my new imac wont recognize it and I only get errors whenever I plug it in.
Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated.

My help may be minimal but here it goes.....are they windows media files you are trying to open? Try downloading and installing flip4mac and see if they will open then.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
You didn't say what model you had or how old the external drive is, but you could try a driver update on lacie's website. Hope this helps a little.

  • Problem with new iMac (with Yosemite): Licensing has stopped working Error 150:30

I have just bought a new iMac and used the Migration Assistant to transfer all my existing programs from my old computer.
When I try to launch my copy of InDesign CS4, I get the error message:
Licensing for this product has stopped working
    Error 150:30
Because new iMacs do not have disk drives, I cannot reinstall using my original DVD disks.
Adobe’s online support team have said they are unable to help.
The Licensing Repair application does not work in Yosemite
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    With many thanks
    Greg

    Download CS4 products
And fix the permissions on the relevant Library folders. The rest is between you and your Mac - as far as Adobe are concerned, CS4 is officially not compatible with Yoesemite.

  • Logic Pro 8 problem on new iMac running 10.6.7

    I just purchased a new iMac (3.2 Ghz core i3) running 10.6.7
I have ran all the system updates.
I have migrated Logic Pro 8.0.2 from my old iMac (running os 10.4.11).
I have also performed a clean install of Logic Pro and am still having same issue, which is:
When trying to open Logic, it starts to load various AUs, and other startup items, and then simply "quits." I have de-installed all my 3rd party products. This install of logic is an upgrade from Logic 7, upgraded from logic 6.
Any thoughts on why it is not running? (PS. none of the apps from the Logic Suite are running, ie... Soundtrack, comressor, etc...)

    Hi
Did you do all the "ProApplications" support downloads after you installed Logic?
Also .... maybe this could be the issue with a migration???

  • Printer Problems with New iMac

I have a new iMac.  My printer is an HP 2550 Series color laser printer.  When I send a print job, the queue says that it is waiting for the printer to become available and just turns.  If I turn the printer off, then on, the print job is done.I have been to HP & Apple tech support to no avail.  Any help?

There is a possibility that HP has a software update that is available through Apple software update.  I've gotten more than a dozen software updates from Canon regarding my year and a half old printer.  Like you, when I first installed my printer I experienced a few silly glitches until  a few updates came through. The customer service people are often not even aware of the updates concerning Apple products.  Anyhow, it's easy to check

  • Problems with new iMac (Alu) after Migration with the Bluetooth settings

Hallo, at first, apology for my bad English
I have bought a new iMac 24". After Migration of my datas from my "old" one (iMac 20" C2D) it works all very fine. The only thing that don´t work is the Bluetooth Settings. When i want to install a new device, there is no text in the Window, only a few characters...
    Can anyone help me??

Try downloading and installing the 10.4.10 Combo update. Let the update run alone. Don't use the Mac for anything else while it installs the update, including Airport and Bluetooth. Use a wired keyboard and mouse if you can.
Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (Intel)
Repair Disk Permissions after the update is installed and you have restarted the Mac.
