Email question with iCloud

Using Apple mail through Cox Communications. When trying to set up iCloud, it also set up a NEW email address (.me or something)? That makes no sense - please help.

If I am not using the .me mail system, using my existing email account on my IMac and turn on iCloud on all of my devices, will it sync contacts, appointments, etc AND if I delete an email on one device will it remove from all? That is what I want to do. Please advise what settings need to be set on all devices to make this work.
The settings I refer to are how long to keep the email after deleting and how long to remain on server.
Thanks!

    Yes.
Each iCloud account has 5GB of free storage space. If you need more, you can upgrade to a paid storage plan.
To check how much space mail is using on your iOS device go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
No, you cannot use your own email address with iCloud. However you can use your own email address as a separate account by entering the account details in the mail application.

iCloud email only works with @me.com addresses: it can't access any other email address at all.

You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.
More information on aliases here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a490a
You can of course create additional iCloud accounts, but any one device can create only three accounts - after that it can sign into accounts created on another device but not create any more (this is tied to the hardware).

  • Is there ANY way to use another email address with iCloud?

Apple let you use any email address as an Apple ID, but I really want to be able to use a non-Apple email address with my iCloud mail. Just about every email service (Gmail, Hotmail, etc) allows you to send from a third-party address (once you've done a security verification) so that you don't have to change your email address when switching services. iCloud seems to have no such option. Is there any way round this, or any way to put pressure on Apple to add this basic feature???

    I'm afraid not

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html - but I don't think it's very likely they'll change it.

  • What is the best family email strategy with iCloud?

    Hello,
What would be the best way to structure our family email setup?
    Our goals are:
-to get the most functionality from icloud
-access email from desktops, laptops, and iOS devices with as much syncing as possible
-to allow each user to have control over what emails are deleted and such
-keep our old email address so we don't lose touch with others who contact infrequently
-I'd like to have different preferences than she does when it comes to junk mail filtering
-to change email addresses as little as possible, hopefully not at all
    Here's the scenario:
She uses:MacBook, and an iPhone and wants the two synced together
I use: a different MacBook (older one,) iPhone, and iCloud.com and want the three synced
My Daughter uses a Nook to access only her email (not been a problem)
We have a family verizon.net email address. We want emails from that address to go to our devices but if one of us deletes an email we don't want the other to have it deleted. However, if I delete it on MY phone, I want it deleted on MY laptop. (synced by user)
We also have our individual iCloud email addresses. This is used for individual emails that go to one or the other of us but not both, and is synced between our devices but not across users.
    Current Status:
I have verizon.net forwarding all emails to her icloud address (it can only forward to one) and then her icloud forwards it to mine.
    Problem:
When I delete emails on my login (I think mine is the master account and hers is a secondary one) sometimes, perhaps all the time, they are deleted on her devices.
Also, she wants her return and sent from address to be the verizon.net address to not confuse people.
I hope this makes sense! If I could draw a picture it might be clearer.
So, what do you all think????
    Thanks!

Unfortunately iCloud can't be used to manage your verizon email account, verizon email has it's own settings and is nothing to do with iCloud. However that being said it sounds like the verizon account may be an IMAP account and it sounds like you want a POP account. Have a word with Verizon to see if they offer this.

  • How to migrate my old apple ID (only a user name, no email yet) with icloud?

  • Outgoing email issue with iCloud account

This is a new ipad2. I seet up an iCloud account.  I can receive email, but outgoing isn't reaching the recipients.  I attempted to change the outgoing smtp to smtp.mail.me.com.   In mail it shows as being sent but it isn't going through. Any ideas ?

You didn't say what you've tried, but if you haven't already done so, try temporarily recreating the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Calendar sync question with iCloud.

My wife and I have separate apple id's and would like our home calendars to sync across multiple devices.  Is this possible with iCloud?

Your profile states that you are using OS X 10.5.6, whereas you need OS X 10.7.2 or better in able to run iCloud on your Mac. As a result your calendars and contacts will be unable to sync with your iCloud account. You will however be able to access your calendars and contacts through your web browser on your Mac at iCloud.com

  • Basic question: will email sync with icloud?

    will my email sync?
I don't understand what it means when it tell me that when you switch to icloud your mail accounts won't sync.  Please explain?

    Yes it will Linda,
When .mac/mobile Me gets moved (when you make the choice to do so) to the new iCloud servers, your mail will be as you expect.
Mobile Me & .Mac used to synch mail 'account info' and/or mail 'rules' but it never synched the actual e-Mail itself. These two settings now are not explicitly backed up to iCloud like they used to be.
You lose no mail or accounts, but you do not have the ability to re-synch a new Mac or a re-built Mac on the same account on the way that you used to be able to do. However, you probably will never need to because iCloud is now the master computer for mail operations—so to speak. And when you register a new computer or iDevice on iCloud mail will come along with it if you so choose.

  • Email file with iCloud drive

    Hello Apple community,
I'm really curious about the new iOS 8 and my question is: will I be able to send files with the email app now thank to iCloud drive ?

You mean you want to add a file attachment to a reply to an email?
    Suggestions here -> http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Seems iOS 8 will have MailDrop You upload a file to your iCloud & send an email with a link to this upload.

  • Do I need to backup my pics and email etc with iCloud backup or would it delete my data?

I have an ipad (3rd gen)  and an iPod (5th gen) I use the ipad for school as in my school instead of books and copies. I use my ipad for leisure and taking photos and videos and Facebook etc etc. both of the devices are using the same account. I only have the free 5GB backup package. I need the storage for my ipad school things as if I lose them..that's all my schoolwork..gone. I have recently taken a lot of photos with my iPod and downloaded a lot of games. Today a notification popped up saying that I'd almost run out of iCloud backup and that I could delete some of the backup on apps etc. so that's what I did and it barely made a dent in the backup figures. I then decided to delete most of my photos just so I'd have some more space for Facebook but it turns out that if you delete your photos, it doesn't actually result in a solution to the backup problem. So what I'm wondering is.. Do I really need to backup my pictures or email etc a and just leave the backup for my ipad? Also, when I go into Settings=>iCloud=>Storage & Backup=>Manage Storage=>this iPod at the bottom of the page there's a button that says "delete backup". I'm wondering if it would help my situation or something. Thanks in advance :)

You don't need to back up your photos to iCloud if you don't want to.  If you don't, be sure to import them (and your videos) to your computer so they are backed up there, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  You can then turn Camera Roll off under Backup Options.  This article explains other options for managing and reducing your iCloud storage: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.
If you tap Delete Backup in Manage Storage>your device, it will permanently delete the backup from iCloud.  It won't do anything to the data currently on your device, but it does put you at risk until you create a new backup.

  • HT204053 Incorrect .me eMail associated with iCloud

I have created two different .me addresses (I really do not know how or why!) and in doing so have associated the wrong one as my main email for use by iCloud.
Is it possible to change the association and delete the unwanted .me address?
If I attempt to associate the address I wish to use I receive an error saying that it is already associated with anoher ID but I have no idea which one.
    Many thanks.

Unfortunately once you have created a me address, you cannot change it or use it for another account. You can however move all your contacts and events manually from one account to another.
