EMail Questions

Hey
I can't wait 'till the iPhone hits Australia. And I want to set up my email and have it all sorted before I buy my iPhone. My question is which email provider should I choose. I am with Windows Live Mail at the moment and I'm happy with it but it's not the paid version (and I don't plan on paying). I am looking into setting up a gMail account. Can get some advice based on features, how easy it is to use, how easy it is to set up.
p.s I don't plan on paying for any plus packages, just the basic free ones.

Hi.
Here is a visual tool from Gmail and iPhone. iphone can configure both IMAP and POP3 accounts.
1. IMAP is more efficient, so here is the website:
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77702&topic=12814
2. Also, remember to select the function on Gmail (for IMAP or POP) when you are signed in. Here is the YouTube Video:

Good luck

I apologize for my ignorance, but what do you mean by 'everything'? The computer name, e-mail accounts, icloud accounts etc?
My work computer (this mac) i use with my private icloud account so I have access to my private calendars etc. My husband's airbook is also connected to that icloud (since I only have 1 icloud account) and so is our shared ipad. Is that where the problem is? Do I need to change everything on those devises into my name too? Thanks again for you time and help!
So you are sharing the account. Very bad idea.
Get your husband his own account and stop sharing yours, they are free.

  • Multiple Account email question

I have a question regarding email. I have a primary account (eg. [email protected]) and set up an alias for my child to use (eg. [email protected]). Little johnny has is own 'account' on my iMac. When we log in to his account and launch Mac Mail it asks for password- I enter my primary password for the [email protected] account but that doesnt work. I thought the alias was a good way for parental control and intro to Mail to a youngster. Is this not the correct (or best) way? Do I need to purchase an entire new .mac account??
    Tks for tips,

  • Submit by email questions

    Hi there,
A few questions about the submit by email function.
    1. We have [email protected] addresses. When we hit submit, it only brings up [email protected] How can I make the whole email show up on the email program?
    2. I am getting a "Operation not permitted" error when other people are testing the form. They are completing it with Adobe Reader and it's just not working even if they've filled out all the necessary sections. Any ideas?
    3. Is there a way to make the information come via email in plain text (or pdf that cannot be edited) vs. surrounded by html coding or an editable pdf?
    I am using Designer 7
Thanks for all of the help,
    M

Maybe you are trying to submit in PDF format rather than form data.
    Reader doesn't do that.

Editable PDF is not for Reader. If you want to reformat the e-mail
received, the form should be submitted to a web server, which receives
the data and sends out a formatted e-mail.
This is STRONGLY recommended. There are MANY reasons not to think of
    "submitting by e-mail" directly.

  • More email questions

    ok guys, few questions here:
    1. Is it possilbe to format the ghastly email which is sent
from a quiz? It comes out in random text in no particulay format!!!
I mean obviously it is formatted in some way but how can i explain
to my client that they have to interpret the results themselves???
    2. Can you make it automatically send the email when the
results page is show (so the user doesnt have to click on send
    email button)??
    3. Is it possible to make it so if the user runs out of time
it goes to the next question automatically? (At present if you run
out of time it prevents you from doing anything further)
I like this program but there are really some stupid issues
where you have no control over the page elements and how they are
displayed. Why make all the other buttons customisable and not the
    submit buttons etc...
    hope you can help
    thanks
    John

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
If you don't see the email reset link, you don't have a rescue email address. Creating one requires answering two of the questions.

  • IWeb Email Question

when I insert the email icon and configure the email, when people press the icon it opens their email app filled in with my inserted address:
    1) does iWeb allow me to do a web-email that can be done online rather than with an email app
    2) is there a way to add a security so automatic email (spam) scans don't leave emails (like adding the feature to put in numbers/letters that pop up)?

Actually, I did create a Gmail address for that. It does direct the email to that address if you click on the email icon.
The question really meant to be sort of like that: When you use iWeb with Podcast etc so users can leave comments then whoever leaves a comment first has to type in the numbers/letters so automatic spamming can't spam that comment. Now with the email icon, can automatic spamming sent you emails there (since there is no such number/letters typing) or is there a way to activate that option also with emails?

  • Cross Platform HTML Email Questions

    Hi,
I am creating new html emails from within dreamweaver for use in a service like constant contact. The service I use is COMF5. They have a rudimentary (but nice) WSYIWYG editor so I am giving it a whirl in Dreamweaver.
I first made the mistake of creating a beautiful file in CSS, pasted it in the editor and found divs and info floating all over the place.
I just found an article by an adobe pro on doing this and ZOMG, what a huge help. Here is what I think I underatand and my question:
    1. Everything is tables, inclding the background which is created at 98%.
    2. The body is to be nested tables.
    3. Attributes are to be defined within the table by use of the property bar and not to include creating css rules.
    4. The one exception is inline styles created within the boundaries of the table.
    5. Important rule is to not have CSS sitting at top of code in document.
My big question at present is, how can I code links to be other than blue and underlined? I would use CSS to do that on my pages.
Thanks ain advance for further insight!

I'll second what Joey said.  Everything inline with email clients.  They are too unreliable, especially with Outlook.  Constant Contact though can be a pain in that you can't just add links to the email if you want them to be tracked.  Search their documentation for the "SimpleURLProperty" tag that they use.  If you do not include this, and the code they leave for you in the code view when you import your own code, none of their tracking features will work.  And this goes for images as well as text links.  Lots of conditions when sending through Constant Contact if tracking is a key.  One of the key reasons I have used other services for awhile now.

  • Exporting photos for email question

In Mac OS 9 my Quicktime Pictureviewer would quickly open my large JPG files and then I could simply click file export (while viewing each photo) and Pictureviewer would automatically resize (to around 800x600) and compress the photos as I exported them.
Is there an easy way to do this now in Tiger? I can do it through my version of Photoshop elements, but it is a pain in Elements 2.0 as I have to resize each time, and click several other options to finally get what I want (a compressed 800x600 file under 200kb). In a nutshell, Elements just makes it too tedious to do when, say, I have a hundred or so photos I took and want to very quickly export them to a folder that I later mass email to family and friends.
Any suggestions on how I can do this with what comes with Tiger (like Preview) or if I upgrade to Quicktime Pro will I then get a Pictureviewer for OS X that will do what I use to do?

    First of all, thanks!
I did open mail and dragged the photo files to the mail window (I'm emailing to someone) and then on the bottom of the mail window clicked small and it reduced those photos to what I wanted.
My question to you is when you speak of "iPhoto," is iPhoto apart of my X Tiger or is iPhoto an Apple internet service? I couldn't find "iPhoto" using Spotlight as being on my computer. When I double click a photo image I have on my computer, "Preview" opens. Is "Preview" a version of/or is the same as "iPhoto?" I can't find anywhere in Preview where I can click a button to email the photo I'm currently viewing.
    Much thanks in advance.

  • BB Bold Email Questions

New to BBs and just recently got the Bold 9790. Sorry if this is a weird question.
I configured my email accounts with my BB (get notifications, etc) and was wondering how much MB it uses. My plan has:
"Email and Internet BB 500MB flex" and it says "Email and Short messages".
I was wondering how much that is. Would I go over if I checked my emails a few times a day, etc.

There is no way you're going to go anywhere near 500 MB in one month checking emails......NOT EVEN CLOSE!
First of all, having a BlackBerry automatically reduces your data usage because all data passes through RIM's servers where it is compressed before being sent to your phone.  Try that on an iPhone or Android!
Unless you're watching a LOT of streaming videos, you probably won't even hit 100 MB a month, so I wouldn't give it another thought.  Go ahead and check those emails.
    I hope that helps you.

  • Mobileme/Push Email question

I was just wondering how push email typically works. I have many emails that I save in various folders on my computer, I wouldn't mind so much if it also pushed those emails to mobileme. However, if I get that email sent to my iphone I would want to archive it in a folder on my mac, but then delete it on my iphone. My limited understanding of mobileme/push email is that if I do something to a message on one device it automatically does it on the other devices. So if I delete a message in iphone it automatically deletes it on my computer and mobileme. Is there a way to bypass this for certain emails? I don't want any of my 8gb space to be used for much email because I will be using that space for music, some tv shows, and the many apps I want from the app store.

thank you so much for your quick answer. One last quick question. How does .Mac/mobile (the server) actually work with the apps on the Mac. I never subscribed to .Mac so I don't know if the server folders appear on the mail application in mac like the idisk appears as another disk drive. just want to know how user friendly its going to be to switch emails between folders.

  • Basic email questions

    Hi,
Just got my iPhone and have some basic questions.
I have three email accounts; earthlink, gmail and mac.com. Right now they are all set up as POP, not IMAP.
If I receive an email on my iPhone for the earthlink or mac.com account, will I be able to access that same email when I check my mail using Mail.app on my Mac?
If I send an email from the iPhone, and then synch my phone, will the sent message be synched to my Mac's Mail.app ?
Perhaps there is a good third party guide to using mail on the iPhone. Any suggestions?
    thank you...

The only way to keep mailboxes and messages synced when accessing an email account with different email clients is via an IMAP account and for server stored mailboxes only.
A .Mac account can be accessed as an IMAP account with the Mail application on your Mac - the default account type with the Mail application is .Mac and a .Mac type account with the Mail application is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.
If you are accessing your .Mac account as a .Mac type account with the Mail application, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for your .Mac account preferences, you have the option to store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server. When accessing your .Mac account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's email client and selecting to store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server via the account preferences on the iPhone, the account's Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes/messages will be kept synchronized automatically between the Mail application on your Mac and with the iPhone in addition to the account's Inbox mailbox which is stored on the server by default with an IMAP account and cannot be turned off.
You can also create additional server stored mailboxes with the Mail application on your Mac or via webmail access for your .Mac account and any additional server stored mailboxes will be available with the iPhone's email client automatically. When sending a message via webmail access for the account, the sent message will also be available automatically with the Mail application on your Mac and with the iPhone's email client.
This is not available with a POP account.

  • Iphone 3gs email questions

    Hi all,
I have an an iphone 3gs on Orange. My Internet provider is TalkTalk and I have a purchased private email address via names.co.uk
I have set up the email address successfully I believe. But it appears that I can only send and receive emails at home?
I can receive emails via mobile networks but not send ???
Is this because of talk talk ... and do I need to configure an additional outgoing mail server.
ALso ... I ve come via blackberry so fond of push email. I bought my wife an iphone3gs. She has configured a hotmail email, and for some reason, it seems that she gets alerted every time she has an email. where as I have to manually press the mail icon before I can check to see if I have mail. How I can I change this? or is this because I am using a purchased email address name???
Thank you in advance for your technical cures. Please keep them idiot proof thank you so much.

I have someone that wants to purchase my iPhone 3GS so I could put the money towards my new phone. If I do sell my phone during the time I wont have an iPhone period, will I be able to keep my data plan an a different phone? Even it's not a smart phone? And when I do get the iPhone 4 what must I do to transfer my plan to that phone?
You can put your 3G S sim card in another ATT phone and it will automatically become your present number. Therefore, you can sell your present phone anytime you want. Just don't include the sim card with it. When you get your new phone (if you haven't done anything about requesting one of the new data plans), you should automatically get the same unlimited plan.
The unlimited data plan is nice, but unless ATT changes their minds and allows tethering with the unlimited plan, I think it's of questionable value UNLESS you spend a LOT of time streaming video (read mlb.com or youtube) on a daily basis or streaming music (read pandora.com or sirius).
For the present, I'm keeping my unlimited plan, but over the last 6 months, I'm only averaging about 1.5GB monthly. And that's mostly because I steam the Sirius App about 45-60 minutes daily while I'm walking. I would lean toward going with the 2GB plan IF ATT would kick up the monthly limit to say 5GB for tethering. I don't see myself doing a lot of tethering, but the 2GB would not cut the mustard for me unless I were to give up my Sirius App.

  • Iphone gmail/email question

    Hello there,
I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. I have two email accounts set up on my 3G iphone. The Gmail account is set up and works fine. I was wondering if there was a way to avoid my emails (sent, inbox or otherwise) to NOT be deleted from my account......but only deleted from my phone....if that makes sense? If I delete anything to do with Gmail on the phone, it also is deleted from the entire account. Is there a way around this?
When I use my standard pop3 account, I can delete all the emails on the phone when read or dealt with but they still come down on to my mac as normal. It's just the Gmail I was trying to figure out.
So: When deleted from the phone......I can still access them when at home online.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I asked something similar in another thread (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7758665#7758665) but it's still not working the way I need it to.
For me,I need to delete emails from the phone, but leave them on my server; I set it up as POP, but then all the emails I sent were also downloaded to the phone, and I send out about 100 emails a day, so that doesn't work for me. I deleted that and set it up as IMAP, but now, like you, when I delete a message from my iPhone, it no longer appears in my gmail inbox on my computer, it's in All Mail.
I don't have time to check different places for my mail--I had a Blackberry before the iPhone and it seemed so simple, so I need to figure out how to streamline it on the iPhone too!

I just got my curve 8320.  I have the BES and also an internet email account on the blackberry.  I have 2 questions:
    1.  Is there a way to keep the 2 accounts from integrating.  I would like to keep my personal emails separate from by business emails
    2.  I would like to have the choice to delete my internet email from just the blackberry or from my isp's server.
