Email - receive but can't send

Hi: I can receive e-mail from my POP3 server but can't send. I beleive it is because of a peculiarity of my provider. I use Outlook to send/receive e-mail from this server and in its setup there is an option under the "Outgoing Server" setup tab that says "Log on to incoming server before sending e-mail". That doesn't appear to be an option with the iPhone. Here is a blurb from the service providers FAQ:
"By default, this server will reject all connections. To authorize yourself to send e-mail, you must first use your e-mail reader to check your account for new e-mail. After you have checked your e-mail, you will be authorized to send e-mail through the server for up to 90 minutes.
All of our customers have mailboxes which are accessible through POP3 or IMAP. POP3 and IMAP are e-mail retrieval protocols and have authentication built-in. Therefore, any customer who legitimately accesses a mailbox on our servers using POP3 or IMAP is automatically authorized to send outgoing e-mail through our relay service for up to 90 minutes. "
thanks,
russ
p.s. Here is webpage on setting it up: http://www.pair.com/support/knowledgebase/e-mail/setting_up_an_e-mailreader.html

I also encountered this problem and think I got it solved today. Try the following:
For your outgoing server, use cwmx.com, which is AT&T's only outgoing server for the Edge network. Don't use a user name or password.
Then perform what AT&T calls a soft reset. Hold down the power button on the top right side and the circular button on the bottom center at the same time until the Apple logo appears on your screen. Then wait a minute or so, see if you can get internet access through Safari, and if so, the you should be able to send emails from your account. It worked for me, and I hope it works for you.

  • Receive but can't send Centurylink email

Any ideas to help? I have two Centurylink email accounts.  About a month ago, my iPhone stopped sending mail through my Centurylink smtp.  Now, I can receive Centurylink mail but can't send mail or reply from either account on either my iPhone or iPad.  I have talked to CL several times and they have walked me through the screens but to no avail.  I am not experiencing difficulty with my Gmail, Hotmail or Mac mail on the mobile devices.  Should be a solution without having to install a special piece of software.

The first message means you cannot log into the SMTP server. For whatever reason, it is showing this error regarding the username and password. It could have something to do with the fact that you have more than one CL account. We'll check that later.
The second one has to do with a different SMTP error, and that sounds like it is hitting the wrong port, even though you are saying you have corrected to their recommended port. Many ISP email providers will not let you send mail through their SMTP server when not on their network, such as connected by the computer or on your wi-fi at home, unless you can be authenticated. This has something to do normally with the SSL setting and how you are authenticated.
Also, when deleting and adding similar accounts back to the phone, it can also keep/carryover SMTP settings. If you go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>tap on the primary account, hoiw many SMTP servers are listed there? There might be a primary and there could also be Other SMTP servers. This may be where your problem lies. Check the settings in the Primary Server. Because you have two accounts, and they of course, have different username and passwords, they could be causing conflict as to which SMTP server is checked there. See if the correct SMTP server is serving the correct account. You can make adjustments in each account area.
    We can work from there.

  • I can receive, but can't send.

Like the title suggests, I can receive emails but can't send them in Mail. I'm living in a university hall now and they have pretty strong firewall which makes me unable to use programmes like LimeWire, and stuff. I'm sure the firewall has something to do with the inability of sending emails. But they say sending emails should be perfectly fine. And since they only know Windows PC matters, I think I should ask you guys first before asking those university Windows PC folks.

Mail Help has some articles devoted to sending problems, e.g. “I can't send email” or “I can't send email because the connection to the server on port 25 timed out”. You may want to take a look at them in case there is something there that applies to you.
Something that usually works if you’re trying to use an outgoing (SMTP) server different from the one provided by your ISP (and in the case of .Mac in particular) is changing the outgoing server port to 587 instead of 25 in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Server Settings.

  • Mac mail can receive but can't send messages

mac mail, can receive messages, but can't send messages. The sent symbol just spins around, but does not send.

I am using Mail 7.3, on OS X 10.9.4 (i.e. latest as of Aug 2014).   I have 4 email accounts, all with their own SMTP servers.   All stopped sending email at the same time.
Taking the hint from your suggestion, I looked in Mail > Preferences > Accounts, and all the SMTP servers were shown as offline (this must be a Mac Mail bug).  All accounts appear to be Online under Mail > Mailbox (pulldown), and are also Online if one highlights the Inbox account, right click.
The trigger for the bug, in my case, was adding a new email account, and when Mail could not access it, it took everything offline.  Removing that account did not solve the problem.
After spending hours trying all sorts of alternatives, I found the way to solve the problem was to delete all the outgoing mail servers, and reenter the information (the same information).

    Hello,
The first thing I would do is follow step six in this document to set a static IP: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02817031&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4023246&tmp...
When it askes for DNS information, enter in Google's DNS. Preferred DNS = 8.8.8.8 Alt DNS = 8.8.4.4
If that does not help, if you could provide me with the following information it would help me out. First, who is your ISP( Internet Service Provider, i.e. Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, ect.)? Second, who is the maker of your router? Lastly, what is the model number and firmware version of your router?

    Hi there,
I found you on Mac discussion groups.
Can you please tell me what to do re, not receiving ALL my emails, and often not being able to send email, even from different wifi servers?

  • Receive but can't send emails using Outlook Expres...

Is anyone else experiencing this again ?
OE leaves my mail in the Outbox and BT Mail will not accept them on a send/receive. Also still experiencing password rejection problems everytime I send/receive. If I cancel instead of trying again. It receives my mail but will not send it.
    Any ideas please ?
    Thanks..............
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)

I suspect you will all ready have done this because you were previously sending emails but it might be worth doing it again in case there has been a glitch in the system.
Verify the non BT email address. See this link.
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10903/kw/reset%20BT%20Yahoo%20Password/c/346,412,416/...
I think you also need to ensure that you have ticked the box “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" - and you need to use "Log on using" and enter the BTinternet email address/password  you've used to verify the Non BT email address.

  • Can receive but can't send yahoo.co.uk email

I have tried multiple steps to reconfigure my outgoing email set up for yahoo.co.uk. the server is smtp.mail.co.uk. correct password is entered and i have even specified port 587. unfortunately i am unable to send via this email server. this is from my wifes account. my yahoo email works on my account fine.
    any ideas

As far as I know, you can only send emails via a third party client (i.e Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Entourage, etc...) if you upgrade your account to Yahoo Mail Plus as we had the same problem a year or so ago.
Yahoo Plus is $11.00 per year - is it worth it? er...no. Trying to persuade my wife to go to Gmail, but alas the lady is not for turning...so, get your Visa card out and then pop in these settings into Mail:
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995)
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., [email protected])
    Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
This, theoretically, should work. However, we are having some major issues with Yahoo Mail at the moment even though we are using Mail Plus - can recieve but cannot send...sometimes. Why? No idea.

  • Yet another can receive, but can't send mail problem.

I’m having trouble with Mail. I have reviewed the various posts by others who have a similar problem. I’ve tried their suggestions, but none have worked for me. I just bought a new G5 PowerMac. I have set the account preferences exactly like my PowerMac G4 and PowerBook G4, but I cannot send messages on any account. I can receive messages. When I try to forward a message by clicking the forward button, nothing happens - no new reply window appears. Likewise, when I compose new message and click the send button nothing happens. My setting are correct and the same as the other Macs noted above. Both of them will send and receive messages using the same DSL connection as the G5. I have two hard drives on my G5 both with OS 10.4.3 installed. I use the second drive to start up on when I have trouble with my main drive. I started on the other drive, which had no mail settings, and tried to set up my accounts. In this case I got a message stating that the mail server could not be accessed. I went ahead and set the accounts anyway, then made sure the settings were correct. This implies that there is something wrong with my new G5 or there is a bug with Mail using the G5 since I have no problems with the other Macs. I haven't time to contact the help line and hope someone knows how to fix this problem.

  • Ios 6 Gmail receiving but can't send

iPhone 3GS. upgraded to ios 6 and it all seemed OK but after one day I can't send any emails via my Gsync account. Receiving OK but no luck sending at all. Also tried just using basic SMTP Gmail on iphone Mail but that didn't work either. The only way I could force it is to turn WiFi off and then use phone network to send but not doing that on a regular basis as far too expensive. Have had to install Gmail app to work around. Funnily enough have another email which is nothing to do with Gmail and that works without any problems at all. Also have iphone 4 in the house that doesn't use Gmail and that has no problems so it seems that it's only Google's mail that's not working. Weird.

What version of Windows, what mail system and which mail client?
