I've never had a problem sending/forwarding emails on my iPad2, but recently I've been getting the error message: The recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying. Help!

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

On the email account's settings (Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and tapping on the account on the right), go into it's outgoing SMTP settings and try putting in your email name and password (they might currently show as 'optional')

The Mail app first tries to send a message via the outgoing (SMPT) server associated with the account. It then tries the next outogoing server on the list for that mail account. Many mail providers do not allow sending mail from other than it own account. and the mail gets restured with the message that relaying is not allowed.. Tyu need to go to Settings>Maile> the sending account and check/correct the setting for the outgoing (SMPT) server for that account.

Try this.

I have posted how to fix the AOL sending problem (another user in the UK discovered the same thing). It involves disabling the primary AOL SMTP server and creating a new one with a your AOL user ID without the final "@AOL.COM".

This means that you did not enter a valid user ID and/or password for the Outgoing (SMTP) mail server when setting up the account. You must enter information for both the incoming and outgoing mail servers; they are separate settings.

Sending the message content to the server failed." I have an AOL account. The last time I think I sent an email using my iPhone was around 7/4/12. I spent several hours yesterday with AT&T. He suggested that AOL can only be logged on to one device at a time. I logged off our PC turned off the phone. Turned the phone back on. Went to the outbox and tried to resend a test msg. Your email provider has blocked the standard mail port 25 for sending emails and is requiring a different port. This is to avoid mail relays that use mail clients to send spam. You need to find the port that is used by your provider for sending outgoing mail. Then change the settings in your email account on your phone to match the port. You will also have to provide some security credentials for the account.
You can also try deleting the email account from your iphone, and the adding the email account back as this will many times set the correct port for sending emails.
You could also do a Google search on the the settings for your device with your email provider. That will provide you with the proper settings.
