Email sender not matching address book

I have just noticed a change in my ipad 4th generation and iphone 5 running ios6.1. I uses to have have the email sender appear as entered in my address book for notificationson my home screen, inbox list, sent items and so forth. Also after openning the email it matches in the from section at the top. Now something has changed. The sender now only matches when i open the email in the from section at the top. But now notifications on my lock screen and in my innbox list show a different name that the sender used to sign up for their email. The sender is my mom. My dad set up her email using his name. For months it has been matching just fine but now why the change? It is strange because now the label mom only shows in the sent item list but not in the inbox list Now when i receive an email from my mom in notifications and inbox list it shows my dads name and only when i open the email does the from box change to mom. I have my mom listed as family in my contact card. I have the nickname added as mom and as well as only mom in the first name field. I don't know what has changed in my devices to make this happen. Strangly enough i have an old iphone 4s running ios7 and it still works with no problem. It lists mom in all areas. Inbox list, sent items list, notifications on lockscreen and so on. Because my ipad and iphone 5 are still under warranty i called apple and was told to reset all settings but that has not solved my problem. Anyone know how to fix this. Other threads with this issue offer no help but i believe were not communicated properly to the support members so I thought i would try.

There could be any one of three solutions... Try these:
1. Make sure you set your own country code at Phone dialer Screen > Options > Smart dialing.
Set your Country Code in this format: "+xx" where xx = your country code. Some countries have two or three digit Country Codes. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* In the US, set this Country Code as "+1", and place your loca area code in the proper box (this normally the default setting in a new BB).
2. At the same location, change the National Number Length to the number of digits for your country (since some countries will have less than 10 as set as the default in the BB). Find out the total digits, minus the country code. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* For example, some countries have a total number to 8 (plus 3 for country code). You would enter "8".
3. You may have "Content Protection" set on your Address Book.
Look at Options > Security > General Settings. Scroll down to Content Protection > Include Address Book = NO.

  • How do I see a list of all my Apple Mail contacts. I do not use address book. I just want to see all the email addresses stored on my Mac

    Hi All,
I have been using Mail for the past three years without need to send a regular mailing list mailout.
I now need to send group emails and all I want to do is browse my contacts aquired over the last three years to create a list. I have not used Address Book for anything other than phone contacts so please do not point me in that dirrection.
There must be a list of all email contacts stored somewhere on the Mac that I can look through. It is an almost impossible task to do this by browsing my inbox/sent folders.
Hope you can help and thanks in advance!
    Best
    Adam

    0. find the user id.
        a. log in as that specific user.
        b. run terminal
        c. type "echo $UID"
        d. write down the user id that will be displayed
    1. Go to the finder
    2. go to the user home folder
    3. click the box with the magnifying glass (upper right corner of the window)
    4. type .jpg
    5. a menu will pop under the magnifying glass box, select "jpg image"
    6. click the "plus" sign that's displayed to the right of the word "save"
    7. two pull down menus will appear, select "other" from the first one
    8. a new window will pull down, scroll to "owner" and select it
    9. back in the original window type the user id (a number) to the right of "owner" "equals"
    Hope this helps

  • How do I send an email to my entire address book?

Hi, I would like to send an email to my entire address book without laboriously having to go through the alphabet.  I have iMail.  How do I do this? Thanks.

    Hi,
Go to compose a new message in Mail. Click on the little Address Book icon in the top bar of the new message. It'll bring up your entire address book and then you can select all the email addresses. Then choose the appropriate delivery method of To:, CC:, BCC:

  • Attaching "faux notes" to Address Book contacts

Lots of CRMs and Personal Organizers let you attach multiple notes to a Contact, along with a datetime stamp for that Note. Address Book does not, alas.
Leopard's Email client, however, let's you create free-standing Notes for your Inbox (or wherever you drag them). But these cannot be attached to a contact.
    My "workaround" for this is:
    1) Create a new "ON MY MAC" mailbox called "Faux Notes"
    2) Create a New Message for the contact(s) you want to affiliate this "faux note" to
    3) Save it as a Draft
    4) Drag it from the "Drafts" folder over to your "Faux Notes" mailbox. This shall ensure that you cannot email your note off to the contact(s) by mistake. The Faux Note also becomes read-only at this point.
    5) If you want to edit or add to that "Faux Note," then you must first drag it back to the Drafts folder.
    Voila!
    Benefits:
    A) Faux Notes are searchable in Spotlight (as are regular Notes).
    B) Faux Notes show up in Smart Mailboxes such as those created by the handy "Mailboxer" utility (http://earthlingsoft.net/Mailboxer).
Now, I just wish I could figure out how to attach a button to the View Contacts pane of Address Book that would kick off an on-they-fly Spotlight query for mail to/from all the email addresses affiliated with that Contact, as in:
[email protected] kind:email OR [email protected] kind:email OR [email protected] kind:email
Feedback welcome! I'm a recent Mac convert after having PCs for the past 15 years.
    Regards,
    Alan.

I placed this question up here almost two years ago, and the problem has since resolved itself.  I think because I have upgraded my mac's operating system (OS) several times since then.
You might want to check and see if you're using the latest version of Mac OS X (currently 10.8.4).  If you're not up-to-date, go into the App Store on your Mac and see if there is an OS update waiting for you.  That might help.
    Good luck.

  • Dot Mac not Syncing Address Book

Syncing won't replace web version of my address book with that from my desktop. I've done the replace from System Preferences, I've even deleted my web based .Mac contacts and then synced, but the old Address Book appears. How do I get the new contacts into .Mac?

Also, when I delete emails "on mailbox & handheld" using my phone nothing changes.  I have to do it again on my PC.
Depending on circumstances, this may be WAD (Working as Designed). All reconciliation is between the BB and your email service...there is no reconciliation between the BB and your PC. See this KB for reference:
KB05133Email reconciliation features for the BlackBerry Internet Service
If your email service is capable of reconciling, from the BB (via BIS), deleted items, then it is a matter between your PC and your email service. You've not said how you are accessing your email from your PC -- webmail, email client (e.g., Outlook, etc.), etc...the answer to that will tell you if you are seeing things as WAD or if things are amiss (since most email clients, Outlook for sure, cannot reconcile items deleted at the server back down to themselves).
    Good luck!

  • Email syncs, calendar syncs, address book doesn't sync!

I have the BES service installed and it was working fine until a couple of weeks ago.
I don't exactly when, but somehow, now I have the wireless sync "ON", with emails syncing ok, calendar ok, but not the address book... (not even the notes and the tasks, but I don't know if these two were synching from the beginning...)
I DO NOT USE desktop manager since it's not necessary at all when you have wireless sync with your company corp email and services working... ok?
    any help will be appreciated
    thanks
    pete
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Do this for me:
Go to options > advanced options > service books > highlight the desktop SYNC service book > hit your menu key and select delete > once deleted, hit your menu key and select undelete.
Get out of service books and under the advanced options menu select enterprise activation. You may have to wait a few minutes but ultimately your enterprise activation will start over again. You will see it go from 0-100%. Check your address book again after that to see if your contacts came over.

  • How to sync Notes, iCal & Address Book between iPod & Mac?

    Hi, there:
Could someone please be so kind to teach me how to sync Notes, iCal & Address Book between my iPod Touch (with iOS6) & Mac (with OS X10.6.8)?
What file format would it be in when Notes is synced from my iPod Touch into Mac, if possible?
How may I drag photos in my regular photos files (not using iPhoto) from my Mac into iPod Touch?
And........HAPPY NEW YEAR of 2014 to Everyone!!!!!!!!
    Message was edited by: applerock9999

Thanks so much for your detailed reply.  Much appreciated!
Just to confirm my understanding that 100% clear on the solution, if my wife gets her own iCloud account, on her phone she'll receive her own emails & iMessages (makes sense) but not contacts.  Calendars though we could share.
Without two separate iCloud accts though -- iCloud on my phone, and her email through Gmail on her phone -- we could share all the common iCloud data (contacts, calendar, notes, reminders, etc.) by enabling the appropriate settings on her phone.
Am I correct to conclude then that the sole benefit of her adding own iCloud acct is email through iCloud (and I guess the free 5GB)?  It would not be possible to simply and easily have one common 'family' address book (i.e. since while Calendars are share-able, contact libraries are not)?

  • Contacts NOT in Address Book Syncing to iPhone

Long story short, I created a distribution list for my father in law with 800 addresses in it. Then deleted all the cards and distribution list. They still show up in my iPhone, no matter what I do.
    I have tried the following:
#1 Confirmed they are not in address book, at all, whatsoever
#2 Unchecked sync addresses, and re-sync, still showing up
#3 Under Advanced, checked replace information on this iPhone - Contacts
#4 Confirmed my addresses are not syncing via Mobile Me
#5 Confirmed latest version of iTunes 10.1.1 and iOS4.
Any ideas? I can't even manually delete them from the iPhone without a 3rd Party App.
    Thanks for the help.

  • My MacBook Pro will not sync address book changes with my IPhone.  Why?  It used to.

My MacBook Pro will not sync address book changes with my IPhone.  Why?  It used to.

Then you may have to try manually resetting the syncservices folder by following Julian Write's post (from https://discussions.apple.com/message/9274781#9274781):
Ok, as you can't reset SyncServices in the "normal" way, you'll have to resort to the "other" way:
Although it's not advised to do so in normal circumstances, you'll need to manually delete the SyncServices folder.
Before doing so, you MUST make a backup of both your Contacts and Calendars:
In Address Book, choose *Export > Address Book Archive...* from the File menu.
In iCal, choose *Back up iCal...* from the File menu.
Then, make a backup of the SyncServices folder located at:
    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
By backing everything up first, you don't risk losing anything.
Finally delete the aforementioned SyncServices folder and restart the Mac. This will force Mac OS X to recreate the SyncServices folder, and hopefully fix your problem.
I believe in Snow Leopard you can back up your calendar in File>Export>iCal Archive rather than File>Back up iCal as posted above.

  • Ipod nano does not sync address book...

So, I got a nano for christmas and it rocks, but does not sync address book- I can drop the vcards into the addresses folder using the nano in drive mode, but when i try to sync through itunes i get an error message-' address book unable to sync because no addresses are available' Any clues how to keep the addresses updated without having to drag&drop everything into the addresses folder? thanks for any advice- h1

I also am having trouble syncing contacts and iCal. Worked fine on my last iPod for years. But the nano displays contacts and calendars about 50% of the time, and I never know if it's worked or not until I disconnect and start up my ipod. When it does sync contacts, it usually says it only has room for a portion of them, even though there's plenty of room on my iPod. I've restored the iPod many times, and that sometimes works for a while, but the problem always returns. A shame, because I love using my iPod for my calendar and contacts. Now I had to switch to my stupid phone because of how unreliable the iPod is proving. Fix this soon, please, Apple!

  • When emailing a group from address book it opens individual emails....

When emailing a group from address book it opens individual emails for each name rather than one email with all email addresses listed. Have I set things up wrongly or is there something I can do to have a single email sent to multiple addressees via Address Book?

    Hello,
When addressing an email for this group, are you
entering only the name of the Group as the address?
    More info, please.
    Ernie
    Thanks for your reply.
Yes, it works directly in Mail - type in group name and all's well and lovely - but if I'm in Address Book and want to email a group it opens numerous emails. THere seems to be no way of opening Mail from Address Book and go straight to emailing a group.

  • Apple script to send SMS via address book.

I've pair my mobile with my Mac and can send sms through address book but can i create a script to do this automactically?

Well, yes and no. Address Book's scripting dictionary knows nothing about SMS, so you can't do it through Address Book. You could conceivably use GUI scripting, but I think that would be a pain. There is a scriptable utilty from SMS MAC which looks if it might do the job - if you decide to try it I would be interested in hearing how you get on.

  • ISync erased notes on Address Book

I have a MacBookPro, ussing Leopard ver.10.5.2., iSync ver 3.0, Sony Ericsson W810i.
In order to sync with my phone with my contacts, I created a new group in my Address Book named iSync (153 contacts), this is the one that I am syncing with my phone.
My contacts have in "notes" some information that exceds 48 characters. I have seen that the contacts that I sync with my phone have lost some information that exceded the 48 characters.
I have reviewed all configurations of iSync and cant find change that could improve this error.
    Any comments on this issue?....

When syncing to limited memory devices you have to keep the lengths of any fields below the limits imposed by the device's manufacturer to avoid this issue.
The Info field in Sony Ericsson phones is restricted to 50 characters. As long as you keep your Notes in Address Book less than 50 characters it will sync ok.
Because iSync knows this field is limited to 50 characters it only syncs the first 50 characters of the field to avoid errors occurring during syncing.
If, however, you make changes to a Contact on the phone, iSync will see the change and sync the whole Contact back to the Mac, including the truncated Info field.
iSync syncs whole Contacts at a time, it does not sync individual fields, so even though you may only have changed or added a phone number to the Contact, all the Contacts data will be synced back to the Mac.
There's no way around this, apart from keeping the lengths of the fields within the limits imposed by the phone.
You could try submitting Feedback to Apple on this issue, but I wouldn't hold your breath:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/isync.html

  • Send to multiple recipients not in address book

FAQs about sending an email to multiple recipients seem to talk about using names already in one's address book to create a group. I have a text file that contains about 1000 addresses and want to send a one-time message to all of them (with each designed as BCC). How can I move those addresses all together -- or a big batch at a time in several messages -- without involving my address book?

My suggestion is take off your blinkers. DOC is not a text file. It is a Microsoft word document file. The only chance you have of that being understood by a mail program is if you buy Microsoft Outlook.
Otherwise, become familiar with CSV files (Comma Separated Values) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values. CSV permeates the entire data interchange process, especially address books, but including database data and spreadsheets. CSV files are text files. Real ones! I talk about them a little here. http://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/importing-csv-files.html
If you have Excel installed and double click a CSV file Excel will open the file. I use LibreOffice, but that does not change the fundamentals of the CSV data format.
So I suggest you save your file in Word as "Plain text" and open in in Excel and hope Excel can make heads or tails of it.

  • Sending email to groups in address book always fails

I set up groups in my address book so I can send an email to a group of contacts without having to select a bunch of names individualy. It seemed to work fine at first but, now every time I try this, the email kicks back a lot of the email names with a message saying the server does not recognize them. I don't get it. What can I do to fix this? HELP!

Do all the contacts in the group have a valid email address? What does the server complain about exactly (without revealing the actual email addresses)?
