Email settings on a mac

I've just changed from a bt home hub to a netgear router (to get a better wireless signal) but now I can't send emails from the mail function on my imac (can't connect to smtp server) - I can still receive messages though.  I can send messages if I log on to bt yahoo directly.
Any ideas?

no - still failed...
Connections to the server “mail.btinternet.com” on the default ports failed (error 54: Connection reset by peer)
I tried the bt onlne chat and was told there was a server problem and would be fixed in 24hours - this is possible I suppose but seems a strange coincidence as it worked fine up to the point I switched modem/router.  I don't want to revert to the home hub as the signal was poor and wouldn't work with airplay.

what are the email settings for mac mail

If you mean iCloud email, you can automatically configure this on your Mac runnint Mountain Lion by going to System Preferences>iCloud, signing into your iCloud account and checking Mail.  To manually configure it, use these settings: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.

I think it must be an IMAP account then, & in Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Advanced>Keep copies for Offline viewing:>Don't keep copies, then on the Server, or maybe it's just this one itself, but on the Server you have a setting to remove eMails after 30 days.
If it's a POP account we'd have to investigate that... but you didn't say so I'm guessing here.

  • Can i copy my settings from one mac to another?

    Hi
Since I had a problem with my Mac's drive that suddenly failed (I am able to read ONLY), I replaced the internal HD with my emergency HD that I had backedup a few months before. I would like to know if there's a way to copy my settings from one mac to another? Is there a specific folder for all apps or do I have to find out each and every single file for each app?
    I need the settings for
    System (view, font, color,)
    Finder (view, etc)
iTunes (that include all library, playlists, etc),
    Firefox (Bookmarks, settings & plug-ins),
    Safari (Bookmarks, settings & plug-ins),
    Address Book (contacts)
Thuderbird (emails accounts, contacts, passwords, etc)
Stickies (stickies on the dock - i have info on there unsaved)
    Filezilla (FTP infos)
    Would appreciate.
    Thnx.

All that info is found in your user/library folder, I just did a 60 machine rollout and copied all those settings from user/library, just be forewarned that if you upgrade software those setting will not take on the machine, for example Adobe CS 3,4 will not usable by CS5.  let us know if you need more help.  Also make sure you copy most of your preferences in the user/library/prefences folder.
Note: If you are using an identical backup with all apps and user settings, you can just copy all folders from user to your new home folder.  Remember that only if the image or backup is identical to your production OS.

  • How do I change my email account on my mac from Mail to Icloud?

Does anyone know how to change my mail account on my mac to I cloud? since i have changed to Icloud on my iphone it seems that I can't access the old mailserver anymore. What do I do?
    Thanks for any advise

Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.

  • Email Settings

Hope someone can help with my email settings. I have 2012 MBA, iphone5, and ipad4. I am using Comcast email through Mac Mail. I realize the Comcast email does not support IMAP, and does not completly sync with all devices, and maybe that is some of the problem. I dont think that this is a syncing issue, rather something else maybe in the settings that will solve it. Here sre some of the things going on.
    1) I am having a problem managing Comcast email on all three devices. For example, if I get 10 emails a day, it is like getting 30 total emails because the same email is delivered to all three devices. When checking emails on the phone - I delete them. When checking emails on ipad - same emails there, and need to delete them. When checking emails on MBA - same emails that were on other two devices, and delete them.
I thought that I had this solved, when talking to Comcast customer service. They said to check - Always Remove Email from Server on all devices. I thought that by checking this it would remove the email from the phycial Comcast.net email client. For example, if I logon to Comcast.net, click email, I see emails. Now that I have this option checked, I dont see emails there. But now I am noticing the following:
    2) When I am out and about, and check email during the day on my phone, I may see an email come in with an attachment that I need to save on my MBA. When I get home, the email is not listed within my Mac Mail client. I guess it is because I already read it on the phone?
So it is true, it removes the email from the actual comcast.net site, but its still coming to all three devices, expect for the MBA which I point out above. What is really strange is that this only seems to impact the MBA email. The same email that I read from the phone earlier is still on the ipad, where I have to delete it a second time. It's just not on my MBA, where I thought I would deal with and delete there.
Now, if I logon to MBA first thing in the moring, without checking phone or ipad email, the email is sitting there. But, then its also on the phone and ipad, which I need to delete manually from each.
I really need to figure this out because I am getting emails that I read on the phone quickly, thinking I will respond later, but its not on the MBA for me to deal with later. Also, I dont always want to respond from the phone. Lets face it, the leyboard on the phone is rather small, and when the need arises to reply with a book type of answer its much easier to have a keyboard to type that message.
Anyone have Comcast email, using that within the Mac Mail client on many different Apple devices that can help me out here?

So this means that POP email is sent to all three devices, and on all three I need to manually delete from each?
    Yes.
Do you think I should sign up for gmail or Yahoo, then forward all of my Comcast email to that account, then set up gmail or Yahoo as my mail account in Mail App?
That's an option, but I wouldn't recommend Yahoo to my worst enemy. Gmail has privacy implications that you may want to research.
What about the thing in mail settings "remove from server"?
If one client removes a message from the server before it's retrieved by the others, then the others will never see it. If the message is removed after the others retrieve it, it won't be removed from them.

  • Email Settings Wiped Out on Regular Basis - Phone Network Issue?

Not sure where to post, but the CEO of our company has had an ongoing issue with his Droid X, and actually I suspect it being a phone network problem.  On a consistent basis when he travels from our office to his weekend home about 100 miles from us, his phone loses the POP3 email settings for our company email which is setup on his phone.  The account settings appear normal, yet we have to re-enter them and then turn the phone off and on again in order to get the email to go through.  VERY FRUSTRATING.  Anyone else have this issue?  Specifically we are traveling from Birmingham, AL to Selma, AL.  There is nothing he is doing to his phone causing the issue and it is not the email account as we have other users on the Verizon network in the area that do not have the problem, though they do not travel that route.
I would GREATLY appreciate hearing from anyone as Verizon customer service at the local store claims they have never heard of the issue.

One more time, iCloud mail accounts are .me, .mac and .icloud. New ones are only .icloud.
iCloud mail is a standard Imap account that can be used with any mail client in existence. But You are talking about the ability to automatically setup an iCloud account in mail, which did not exist until 10.7.2.
You can use password or token authentification with iCloud mail (in Mail) it is your choice.
Set the account manually, set it as Imap, use imap.mail.me.com (no P number) for the incoming email and smtp.mail.me.com as the outgoing server.
The full settings (ports and security) are here. Use them and it will work, regardless of domain (mac, me and icloud addresses all use the same settings.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 993
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    Password: Your iCloud password
Note: If you receive errors using SSL, try using TLS instead. SSL is required for both IMAP and SMTP connection with iCloud. POP is not supported by iCloud.
For more information on how to use this information with your email application, consult your application's documentation.

  • Icloud email settings with snow leopard

I have just migrated a mobile me account over to icloud on a brand new MBP, my other machines all run snow leopard so I want to set the email up on these computers as well, I have followed Roger Wilmut settings for using Icloud email with Snow Leopard but I get "The IMAP server “imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “xxxxxxxxxxx”. Can anybody help me as I have tried with 2 different macs and get the same error on both?

Ok this happened to me I migrated over my mobileme accounts to icloud on my new MBP easy, but when I went to my older machines running Snow Leopard my emails wouldn't work (password errors). The solution was to change the password on my account as Apple's new rule says that passwords need to be a least 8 characters long etc, once I change the password and re-entered my email account details my email worked straight away. Use this link to check your email settings are correct http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html
    Hope this helps

  • New email settings

Need help making email setting changes as written in recent email from verizon

Warning to iMac users when attempting to change the POP settings as per Verizon's request:
My husband had difficulty setting up the new email settings today, as Verizon had asked us to do via email notice, so he contacted Verizon by phone.  Someone attempted to walk him through the process and took control of our computer.  In so doing, the Verizon representative inadvertently deleted every email we ever wrote.  All of our emails with work information, personal information, all of it -- gone.
When my husband informed me of what happened, I contacted Verizon again and was told, "Oh yeah, that happens sometimes with Mac Mail."  I also contacted Apple, and there was nothing they could do.  There were a few emails from earlier today that were still available, but all of the other emails, thousands of them -- gone.  Unfortunately, while I had been keeping all of my emails on Mac Mail, on my hard drive, I regularly delete my emails from the Verizon.net website, so retrieving them from there was not an option.
It is mind-boggling to me that Verizon has no way to retrieve my emails -- that they deleted -- from their main server.  I find that very hard to believe.  I can understand how my hard drive may have eradicated them -- but I can't believe that they are truly gone.
Please be warned if you have an iMac or other Apple computer -- If you are dealing with the new changes verizon is asking customers to complete, you could lose all of your prior email.  Please back up your emails before attempting to complete their instructions.
