Email suddenly taking accounts offline when checking mail.

Email has started to behave strangley, suddenly. Sometimes, erratically, when I check email, my accounts will search and then one by one go offline with the little offline figure to the right. When I try to take any account back online, I am unable to do so. Ultimately, I have to reboot my computer to get to my mail. I have 4 email accounts and haven't had this problem until recently. Can anyone offer a solution please?

NEver mind...enough is enough

  • TS2621 Hotmail not responding when checking mail

While trying to retrieve email from Hotmail account, phone keeps "Checking for Mail" but does not respond.  When I reboot, I get Hotmail.  I'm on a network.  Gmail Account, no problem and Office email through enterprise, no problem.  Only Hotmail problem.

I'm not sure if I understand your qustion, "What do you have one currently set?"  The mail that's coming in does not update on my phone.  The phone shows at the bottom, "Connecting'" but it never connects.  It'll time out before the connectionis made to add any new mail or remove the mail that has been deleted.

  • "Cannot Get Mail" When Checking Mail on Yahoo Account after 1.1.2 update

I recently updated iPhone to 1.1.2 and now cannot get yahoo email. 1.1.1 worked fine. When I attempted to check for e-mail on iPhone it returns error "Cannot get mail: The user name or password for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect." I have checked my username and password and I am positive that it is correct. I just logged onto the yahoo mail website with the same username and password that I entered into my iPhone. BTW, I have only alphas for a password and I also tried updating my password online and then modifying the iPhone to match. It authenicates the password when updating the account but will receives the same error above when attempting to update e-mail. I just have the standard yahoo account which shouldn't matter because it is the one that i used on 1.1.1. I have tried everything i can think of and just cant seem to get it to work so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. Thanks

I have a new iPhone with 1.1.2 and have this same problem. My Yahoo mail is set up correctly, and I can send mail from the mail client, which shows up when I check my 'sent' folder on yahoo using the browser interface from my computer.
I can't check mail - I get the "The user name or password for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect. Since I can send email from the iphone, and then see what I sent on both my work email and in my 'sent' folder, it's not a user or pw setup problem.
I tried turning it off and on and that didn't do it. I have a free yahoo account, so I believe I have to use the Y! option.

  • All mail accounts offline when disconnecting from HMA pro

Im using Airport Extremes WLAN  for internet access.
Every time I disconnect from HMA! VPN Pro , secure internet encryption application, all my mac mail accounts go offline. All available SMTP servers including gmail smtp server which according HMA Helpline is whitelisted , are  all off-line. No way to bring them back alive again.Cant send or receive any email. Quitting HMA and reloading  mail doesn't work. It drives me nuts. Support from HMA is poor. They say to use gmail smtp servers instead any others because they are "whitelisted". but even gmail is steadily offline. Tried to change ports as suggested in their troubleshooting section- without success.
Only thing that does the trick is to switch to my iPhone's personal  hotspot. But switching back to WLAN again sets all accounts offline again.
Another workaround is to restart the complete system 10.8.5 and not log on to HMA which is quiet a nuisance. AS soon as I log in I can't send email again through mac mail program (which according HMA's support section "is normal"-). Logging on to HMA  must doe some nasty thing to the WLAN settings in the background which I can't figure out. So far I have  not received any solution to this nuisance from HMA.
Anybody out there having similar problems and possible solutions?
    Help is very much appreciated!!

Here's what i did, I had the same problem. Go to the finder/go/computer/yourname/library/preferences. move the file com.apple.mail.plist to the trash bin. But before you do this copy all the info on your account for your isp. Such as user name, password , incomming server, and outgoing server info. This worked for me. Good luck

  • Mail app asking for passwords it already knows, taking accounts offline, intermittently failing to connect IMAP/SMTP

Recently I have been experiencing intermittent connection failures with Mail in OS X 10.7.5 on both our Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.
The little "lightning bolt" icon or the "exclamation point" icon will occasionally appear next to some or all of my accounts in the left column and Mail will (sometimes) prompt for passwords already in my keychain and then take the accounts offline. Sometimes the failures take place during IMAP logins and sometimes during SMTP sends. Sometimes they affect my iCloud accounts, sometimes my Gmail accounts, and sometimes both.
When I try to take the account(s) back online, Mail sometimes fails to do so. Quitting the Mail application completely and relaunching it will randomly result in the problem persisting or going away. What makes this so confusing is about half the time, Mail works just fine.
This is only happening on OS X, in Apple Mail, our iPad and iPhones appear unaffected even when running on the same router with the same ISP. I can also verify that all the iCloud and Gmail accounts in question can be reached successfully using other mail client software from Windows in my various virtual machines. Therefore I believe this is an application issue and not something related to my network.
When the issue is evident, Connection Doctor will fail on some or all counts...when it goes away Connection Doctor will show all green lights again.
This issue has only manifested in the past week or so, and both machines are up to date on Software Updates. Perhaps something pushed out recently from Apple is causing this? Is anyone else having a similar experience?

Same issue, too.  But I have nothing better to do than try to fix Apple problems that appear mysteriously and randomly; I'm sure you're the same way.
The REAL REASON, which can no longer be overlooked, is that Apple's (probably underpaid sweatshop Chinese) employees build toys for grown-ups and do little more than that.  I wish I had never bought my Mac (2009) since few things about Apples are "intuitive" unless you've been an Apple cultist since Jobs introduced the first Mac.  Oh, and because things mysteriously stop working, something I don't recall happening with any of the PCs I've owned.
Apple's version of Excel is a total joke and on an update that I did not ask for, the "Save As" feature, a convention that was 30 years old and worked well, was removed in favor of "Duplicate, Rename, Save."  What 22 year-old Apple product manager was allowed to make this change?
I foolishly compounded my Mac purchase error by buying an iPhone 4S.  On that lovely ($200 Verizon-subsidized) product, I can no longer discover my home network, rendering my ($100) Airplay for outdoor music useless.  (But I probably can post a picture directly to Facebook or something!  More toyish behavior in which Apple specializes.)  Can I get support on these POS with a phone call?  No, I need to rely on a Aapl cultist to devise some esoteric key combo or a "jailbreak" on a Support board or blog site.
I'm eligible for a phone upgrade on 8/13 and I'm counting the days.  Will upgrade to a good large-screen laptop asap as well and then throw the Mac out my office window.  Junk, just junk.  Apple's stock is at $433 from $700 and it's still overpriced.  How long will this rant last before it's sanitized by the Cupertino Big Brother? Maybe what the children who design product ought to do instead is BUILD BETTER STUFF.

  • How can I keep just one of two accounts offline in Mac Mail?

I recently switched from Comcast to Cox Cable. Cox has a known issue with push notifications and email doesn't show up at regular intervals. You have to go offline and back on or quit Mail and then open it again to see new messages. It's a pain but it works.
I still have my Comcast email account enabled on Mac Mail because I need access to old emails and if I disable it (via Preferences), it disappears. I want to take it offline but clicking on the Comcast account and "take comcast.net offline" always takes my Cox account offline as well. I can't get them to both stay online because the Comcast account hangs when it can't connect to Comcast. This really exacerbates the already annoying issue of having to take Cox offline and back on.
I tried going into the Comcast account via Preferences and unchecking "include when automatically checking for new messages" but when I did so, it kept the Cox account from receiving any messages at all (I confirmed this by checking webmail, and by toggling it on and off to see what happened).
I need some solution that allows me to see the comcast account in mail without having it be active in any way. I have other mailboxes archived but that process doesn't offer the search capability that I need.

Aha! I have been doing just that. However, what has been tripping me up is that I am also used to clicking the Go Online/Go Offline toggle button on the top menu bar when I manually check for messages on Cox. Apparently when you take one inbox offline, that button switches to Off even though the other inbox is still online. If I just ignore that button and go on or off via the cox mailbox listing, it keeps comcast from being reactivated.
Thanks so much for helping me think this through.
Edited to add: I removed that dang button from my menu so I can stop clicking it.

  • Anyone know how to keep accounts offline in Mac Mail?

    Hi,
I use Mac Mail for business and personal accounts. I'm trying to prevent myself from getting distrated with personal email while I'm working, but I want to be able to recieve emails to my business account. So I take my personal accounts offline, and just keep my business account online when I'm working. But the problem is if I click the Get Mail button it takes all my accounts back online. Anyone know, is this a bug or is there some way around this? I can click on the mail box and select Syncronize account, but would be easier if I could just click the Get Mail btn without taking all the accounts online....
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!!

  • Error message when checking mail

When checking my yahoo on the phone, i get this: _*imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com incorrect_* It just started out of nowhere. I took my original phone back to the apple store saturday and this started monday night. It worked fine until then. I tried to reenter my password and it still doesn't act right. I get a similar message with my gmail account but it says pop instead of imap.
    Anybody have any ideas??
    thanks, Kelly

    Kelly,
You may want to try deleting those accounts off your iPhone and re-adding them again. To remove the accounts, go into Settings > Mail > tap on each account and tap on 'Delete Account' at the bottom. Then add those accounts back to the iPhone.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • I changed my Apple ID (new email address, same account), but when I try and use my iPad, it is asking me to sign out and delete the account, losing all data.  If I do this, will it all still be there on my new ID? Thanks.

I changed my Apple ID (new email address, same account), via the Apple website on my laptop, but when I try log into ITunes on my iPad, it still has the old ID.  It is greyed out, so I can't change it.  On researching further,  it seems I have to sign out of iTunes and sign back in using new address.  Ok so far, but when I do this, it asks if I want to delete the account and any data on the cloud.  If I do this, and sign in with changed ID, will all the data be there Or will it be lost?  Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like apps purchased from those accounts got synced to the iPod and it is asking to log into that account to update them.
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
What do yo see if yo go to the Updates Section of the App Store app?

  • Revover emails from deleted account in Windows Live Mail

Hello, I deleted my account in Windows Live Mail and tried the procedure to recover them from C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
    Live Mail.
    I also tried to Go
to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft and then right click on the Windows Live Mail folder and choose ‘restore previous versions’ but I had no restore point (the option to generate a restore point had been disabled in the past due to the low HD capacity
    of the PC).
I also tried to scan all .eml files from the PC to lave the emails but I had thousands of them in many folders and I can't locate them anymore.
I believe that deleting an account from WindowsLive Mails does not definitely delete all emails in one click so where can rhese emails be?
    Thank you

  • Mail accounts offline when Mail is first launched

After upgrading to 10.6.2 (both computers), when I launch Mail, all of my accounts are offline with the little triangle next to them. If I click on "Get Mail" I can connect and download my mail. Quit and re-launch, and I'm back offline. Both of my Mac's are connect wirelessly, if that matters. This is getting old.....

  • Always re-caching email/re-synchronizing w/ server when launching Mail

I had to change my email address on my personal domain I have. for privacy concerns i will just label it 'example.com'.
Iam using IMAP for my domains on a shared hosting account.
My long-term email account is [email protected], however I've had to change it to [email protected] ... so what I did in the cPanel of my websites backend is create a new email account '[email protected]' with the same password as [email protected]
kept [email protected] in the Mail application, added the [email protected] account into Mail and properly copied mail form [email protected] to [email protected] by selecting all inbox messages in [email protected] right-clicking and selecting copy-to -> [email protected]
it reflected this on the server aswell when i check the [email protected] account via webmail (SquirrelMail).
I did the same for Drafts and Sent.
However since I kept both in there to make sure I dont miss a message while I migrate to the new email account [email protected] and [email protected] are always re-caching/re-synchronizing with the server if i ever open Mail after a reboot or closing mail completely.
When it does that I lose all my Rules (and have to re-apply them, which is easy) but it is very frustating as it takes a long while before I can check for new messages and doesnt make sense why it is recaching the mail when it has been fine.
maybe should I have just selected all the mail messages and dragged them to the mailbox instead of doing a copy-to?
    Thanks!

I wanted to add more information, hopefully maybe clearing anything issues.
OSX 10.6.6, Mail.app, my own domain using IMAP.
for example my original email address was '[email protected]' and needed to change my email to '[email protected]'
I created the new email account ([email protected]) on my shared hosting account cPanel using the same password as the original email ([email protected]).
Launched mail, the original email ([email protected]) I still kept in Mail, and added the new account ([email protected]) then proceeded to select all the messages from [email protected]'s Inbox to [email protected]'s Inbox...and right-clicked and selected "Copy-To [email protected]'s Inbox" (and the same for the Drafts and Sent folders)... so they were identical and had all my email copied properly over.
Everything looked fine, on the server end using WebMail (SquirrelMail) it showed everything like for like. I can send messages fine, etc.
However whenever I quite Mail and reopened it (didnt matter if I shut down the Mac or restarted or just simply relaunched mail) it always recaches the Inboxes for BOTH accounts every single time since I've added the new account as seen below:
    Anyway to resolve this?
