Email Sync and Roaming Charges

How do you set up the IPhone so that when abroad the email can be setup to check for email say every 2 or 3 hours? Also is there a way to only sync email on demand?

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data. There's no way to set an automatic fetch interval longer than one hour. If you set Fetch to Manual, mail will only be checked when you launch the Mail app.

I am going to Italy and although won't use my phone for calling as Verizon doesn't work there, I would like to check email, listen to podcasts, and use apps.  Does anyone know if that will trigger roaming charges?  Any advice on this?  I will call Verizon to discuss as well, but I don't trust their competence on the other end of the phone....

You can only use your Verizon phone over WiFi in Italy. Your Verizon iPhone is a CDMA phone. Italy uses GSM. You will not incur any roaming charges. Whether you will be required to pay anything for the WiFi depends on the WiFi provider.

  • Email Sync and Schedules

Hi, Ive just got an iPhone 4 (OS level 4.2.1) and Im trying to work out if I can set my email sync schedule based on time of day?
With all my previous phones (Windows Mobile and Symbian S60) I could set a peak and off peak schedule so I could have push mail for peak and manual for off peak.
It doesn't (suprisingly?) seem to be available in the mail settings so was wondering if there are any workarounds or apps to do this?
Im getting tired of being woken up by my phone when I get emails at night time as I dont always remember to switch off the alert sounds.
Also I have 2 email accounts, one ActiveSync with Exchange that I use for work and an IMAP account for my personal email. I dont want to sync my IMAP account most of the time but even though I have it set to manual it still downloads my IMAP mail whenever I enter mail to read my ActiveSync mail. Is there anyway of turning this off and just have it sync when I choose to?
    Thanks for any advice

Ok thanks for the reply I thought that might be the case.
Maybe one day Apple will consider providing these features.
For me the lack of a peak/off peak schedule is quite frustrating and all my previous phones had this

  • IPod Crashes while syncing and fully charged

    Hi,
My Ipod crashes when its fully charged and syncing to Itunes. Anyone know how to fix?
    Thanks,

Well, I tried the five R's. My iPod still crashes out after about a 1/4 of a gig gets synched up.
I get an error message "unexpected error unable to write to ipod -124" or something like that.
What's strange is my iPod will be fully charged. Then, in the couple minutes most the iPod says its low on battery. -- I had a battery replaced only about a year ago.
Has anyone come across this problem?

  • Iphone and roaming charges

can iPhone 6 use data when outside eu with cellular and data roaming off (o2 said its down to iMessage) ?
even though i didn't use it

If cellular data is off then the phone will not use any data. If iMessage is on it will periodically send invisible text messages to the iMessage activation server, but these use SMS, not cellular data.

  • Strategy & Options for Desktop/Laptop/iPhone/iPad Email Syncing and Archive

I'm looking to investigate alternatives and, ultimately, blow up what I'm currently doing for email "sharing" across my Apple products.
I currently have an iMac 27, MacBook Air, iPhone and iPad. I POP email from multiple accounts to my iMac and iPhone. I read and respond to urgent email from the iPhone and then Bcc: myself so I can clean up the mess when I'm back on the iMac. Not good I know.
I POP to the iMac, filtering via SpamSieve, then manage everything into folders with MsgFiler and then archive everything with MailSteward.
I like this setup and have about 7-8 years worth of email in MailSteward and would definitely NOT like to disrupt this.
I also really like SpamSieve and MsgFiler. Great products!
However, I now definitely want to be able to access and deal with my mail from any of the four devices BUT still get everything on the iMac so it can be the central repository and archive.
I guess I'd like to ask the Group about my options for POP and IMAP, or maybe a mix (?) and how I could use all four platforms while still having the desktop be the primary email system, as well as the archive.
    Thanks all,
    Mark

With how you describe your workflow, continuing to use POP accounts would be the way to go, since all messages can be downloaded iMac without indication of whether Read or Unread.
With multiple devices, using IMAP is a lot cleaner, but would be cautious about using SpamSieve, MailSteward and the other thing.
I have never seen a compelling reason to use MailSteward or anything similar. I have most every legitimate message ever received or sent, kept at the ready for searching in Mail, where I have way over 100,000 messages, 15 plus accounts, and many On My Mac mailboxes.

  • I-Phone email sync and desktop Outlook Inbox

Prior to my I-Phone, I used a Blackberry. On that device I was able to set-up how I wanted emails that were deleted on my handheld device to be handled within my Outlook Inbox on my desktop. I liked that I could read an email on my handheld device (Blackberry or now I-Phone), delete that email but still keep that same email as a "read" email in my Outlook Inbox once I got back to my computer. It appears with the I-Phone that once you delete an email on the I-Phone it automatically deletes it from your Outlook Inbox. Is there any way around that?

One thing that might help out.
It depends on the type of emil account you have set up.
If it is a pop account the state of the email is local to the device.
As in, if you delete the email on the iphone, it will still download as unread to other devices.
However, with imap or exchange, the state of the email is global with the server.
So any changes you make on the device is pushed back to the server and down to any other devices checking the same email.
    Hope this helps.

  • OS upgrade kills Exchange email sync and flattens battery

I did the upgrade to 10.0.10.90 on Saturday. Since then my Exchange email account stopped working, the device often feels warm, and the battery goes flat in a few hours (even without use).
I saw another problem KB33828 wonder if this is related. Vodafone can't/won't help.
Everything else still working, including 2 other non-Exchange email accounts.

    Hey peter_r_miles,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
That KB article would be related if your email account gets re-added every few minutes.  Since this is a new issue we will need to gather logs to find the root cause.  Please contact your network service provider and ask to be transferred to BlackBerry.
    Thank you.

  • Keeps reseting itself over and over again, not syncing, and hardly charging

So, it's my sisters ipod that hasn't been used in quite a long time, since she never uses it. I figured it just needed to be charged and updated, but I soon realized it just wants to reset over and over again. Not exactly fun... Any tips on maybe why it's not wanting to function properly?

It's happening to me too, I just don't know what to do, I just cannot make it on anymore! I'm freaking out! I is the coolest celphone I've ever had and ever seen, despite all its frills, I always let it take its time for everything, but lately, it's been locking all the time and make me wait for ages for it to recover. Earlier today, when it was recharging, it just tottaly locked and now there's no way to turn it on again! What do I do? I need it alive again!

  • Firefox opens duplicate windows performing the same actions microseconds apart. I noticed it because videos had an echo. Then I made an online donation--triggered 2 email confirms and 2 charges to my credit card. Help?

This has been going on for a week or two.

Does this still happen if you restart Firefox in safe mode? For instructions, see '''[[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]'''.

  • Email Sync on Vista 64 not working

    Hi,
I am using a N79. I have configured the Email Sync and it's working fine with Vista 32 bit.
Now I've got a new PC with Vista 64 bit. I installed the PC Suite with the same version I as on the 32 bit Viste (7.1.30.9)
The N79 is recognized by the PC Suite and a sync is possible for  Notes, Callendar and Contacts but NOT for E-Mail
On the 32 bit PC the E-Mail sync is available.
    Any Idea?
    Thanks

The driver was not recognized and I downloaded the USB driver. After the installation the device was recognized and I can sync Emails again. Regards and Thanks OKM

  • I want to take my iPad to Europe.  Will I pay roaming charges like my iPhone will incur?

I know about my iPhone and roaming charges when visiting another country, but does the same hold true of my iPad?
"On the way to Spain," Linda

I will be there in June with my pad.  If you plan to use cell service, you will pay.  If you use the wifi, you will be fine.  There are lots of hot spots in eurpoe - most big hotels, (and small ones as well), public cafes etc will have wifi available.
I was all over Englad and ireland last summer and did not spend a single night where there was not wifi available.

  • I tried to sync my iPod touch to a new laptop and it deleted all of my music and videos. I called tech support and they told me to email iTunes and they would give it back to me. How do I do this??

I  tried to sync my iPod touch to a new MacPro laptop and it deleted all of my music and videos. I called tech support and they told me to email iTunes and they would give it back to me. How do I do this??

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • My iPhone 5S won't show up in iTunes to sync. It charges still and it opens iPhoto, but doesn't even register in iTunes

My iPhone 5S won't show up in iTunes to sync. It charges still and it opens iPhoto, but doesn't even register in iTunes. I have no idea what to do and nothing is working!
And the other night while i was trying to sync my phone, it was working until "Error message (-50)" started coming up every time i tried to sync or update my phone's software through itunes on my computer. eventually, itunes quit and i unplugged my phone and updated it wirelessly. i have no idea why any of this is happenings. Itunes is still acting weird for me too.

Error -50 is generally associated with firewalls or anti-virus software as described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1583
Separately, are you using iTunes 11.1.4?

  • I recently downloaded a  bunch of songs an ringtones from Itunes on my phone. I synced up the phone to my computer to back up the files and to charge it and afterward all the new music and ringtones are gone?! Checked iTunes and they're not there either!

I recently downloaded a bunch of songs and ringtones to my iPhone 4 and when I synced my phone to my computer to back up the files and to charge the phones the ringtones and songs were gone. They disappeared from my phone and from my iTunes as well. I checked my my iTunes for downloadable items and there was nothing there. I went onto iTunes and tried to download the same things that I had previously and when I did it said I had already downloaded them? iTunes only gave me the option to purchase the music and ringtones again.  Does this happen often or is there something wrong with the software on my iPhone?

    Hi,
Did you have the music in your iTunes library on your computer when you signed up for match? How did you transfer the music from you iPhone to your computer? Do you have a back up.
