Email Sync and Schedules

Hi, Ive just got an iPhone 4 (OS level 4.2.1) and Im trying to work out if I can set my email sync schedule based on time of day?
With all my previous phones (Windows Mobile and Symbian S60) I could set a peak and off peak schedule so I could have push mail for peak and manual for off peak.
It doesn't (suprisingly?) seem to be available in the mail settings so was wondering if there are any workarounds or apps to do this?
Im getting tired of being woken up by my phone when I get emails at night time as I dont always remember to switch off the alert sounds.
Also I have 2 email accounts, one ActiveSync with Exchange that I use for work and an IMAP account for my personal email. I dont want to sync my IMAP account most of the time but even though I have it set to manual it still downloads my IMAP mail whenever I enter mail to read my ActiveSync mail. Is there anyway of turning this off and just have it sync when I choose to?
Thanks for any advice

Ok thanks for the reply I thought that might be the case.
Maybe one day Apple will consider providing these features.
For me the lack of a peak/off peak schedule is quite frustrating and all my previous phones had this

  • Strategy & Options for Desktop/Laptop/iPhone/iPad Email Syncing and Archive

I'm looking to investigate alternatives and, ultimately, blow up what I'm currently doing for email "sharing" across my Apple products.
I currently have an iMac 27, MacBook Air, iPhone and iPad. I POP email from multiple accounts to my iMac and iPhone. I read and respond to urgent email from the iPhone and then Bcc: myself so I can clean up the mess when I'm back on the iMac. Not good I know.
I POP to the iMac, filtering via SpamSieve, then manage everything into folders with MsgFiler and then archive everything with MailSteward.
I like this setup and have about 7-8 years worth of email in MailSteward and would definitely NOT like to disrupt this.
I also really like SpamSieve and MsgFiler. Great products!
However, I now definitely want to be able to access and deal with my mail from any of the four devices BUT still get everything on the iMac so it can be the central repository and archive.
I guess I'd like to ask the Group about my options for POP and IMAP, or maybe a mix (?) and how I could use all four platforms while still having the desktop be the primary email system, as well as the archive.
    Thanks all,
    Mark

With how you describe your workflow, continuing to use POP accounts would be the way to go, since all messages can be downloaded iMac without indication of whether Read or Unread.
With multiple devices, using IMAP is a lot cleaner, but would be cautious about using SpamSieve, MailSteward and the other thing.
I have never seen a compelling reason to use MailSteward or anything similar. I have most every legitimate message ever received or sent, kept at the ready for searching in Mail, where I have way over 100,000 messages, 15 plus accounts, and many On My Mac mailboxes.

  • Email Sync and Roaming Charges

How do you set up the IPhone so that when abroad the email can be setup to check for email say every 2 or 3 hours? Also is there a way to only sync email on demand?

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data. There's no way to set an automatic fetch interval longer than one hour. If you set Fetch to Manual, mail will only be checked when you launch the Mail app.

  • I-Phone email sync and desktop Outlook Inbox

Prior to my I-Phone, I used a Blackberry. On that device I was able to set-up how I wanted emails that were deleted on my handheld device to be handled within my Outlook Inbox on my desktop. I liked that I could read an email on my handheld device (Blackberry or now I-Phone), delete that email but still keep that same email as a "read" email in my Outlook Inbox once I got back to my computer. It appears with the I-Phone that once you delete an email on the I-Phone it automatically deletes it from your Outlook Inbox. Is there any way around that?

One thing that might help out.
It depends on the type of emil account you have set up.
If it is a pop account the state of the email is local to the device.
As in, if you delete the email on the iphone, it will still download as unread to other devices.
However, with imap or exchange, the state of the email is global with the server.
So any changes you make on the device is pushed back to the server and down to any other devices checking the same email.
    Hope this helps.

  • OS upgrade kills Exchange email sync and flattens battery

I did the upgrade to 10.0.10.90 on Saturday. Since then my Exchange email account stopped working, the device often feels warm, and the battery goes flat in a few hours (even without use).
I saw another problem KB33828 wonder if this is related. Vodafone can't/won't help.
Everything else still working, including 2 other non-Exchange email accounts.

    Hey peter_r_miles,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
That KB article would be related if your email account gets re-added every few minutes.  Since this is a new issue we will need to gather logs to find the root cause.  Please contact your network service provider and ask to be transferred to BlackBerry.
    Thank you.

  • Email Sync on Vista 64 not working

    Hi,
I am using a N79. I have configured the Email Sync and it's working fine with Vista 32 bit.
Now I've got a new PC with Vista 64 bit. I installed the PC Suite with the same version I as on the 32 bit Viste (7.1.30.9)
The N79 is recognized by the PC Suite and a sync is possible for  Notes, Callendar and Contacts but NOT for E-Mail
On the 32 bit PC the E-Mail sync is available.
    Any Idea?
    Thanks

Hi, thanks for the update hint, but at the moment it is not possible (please do not start a discussion and accept my answer) It is working now. I deinstalled everything, used the PC Suite Cleaner, restarted my PC. I downloaded the PC Suite again and installed it. After the installation I plugged my device in. The driver was not recognized and I downloaded the USB driver. After the installation the device was recognized and I can sync Emails again. Regards and Thanks OKM

  • Email settings and syncing

I have a couple of questions on the stock email program.
    1. For one of my accounts, I prefer that email not be automatically synced - it's an account that I want, on occasion, to check manually. However, there seems to be no "No sync" option. I could select "Once a day," but for this account, even that downloads too much of the email in this account.
    2. I have two different emails from the same service---that is [email protected] and [email protected] However, it appears that  the sync settings only hold for the account charter.net and not for each username. In other words, I cannot set separate sync schedules for usernameA and usernameB. Is there a workaround?
    3. Is there a better email program out there?
    Thanks much!

This is what I see on my Tbolt for a pop3 account. Your settings might be different.
Should be the same for the Dinc2, that menu string is unique for Sense devices.

    Yes, it's a missing feature.

This is a bug in Outlook. The workaround is to right click on the Inbox and "Mark all as read"

I  tried to sync my iPod touch to a new MacPro laptop and it deleted all of my music and videos. I called tech support and they told me to email iTunes and they would give it back to me. How do I do this??

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • How do I stop the EMAIL sync between my desktop  and my laptop?

How do I stop the email sync between my desktop computer and my laptop? Right now, the laptop is set to automatically load my email when I click on mail. I use my desktop daily; laptop only when traveling. The laptop is somehow set to receive ALL messages, so I get messages that are several weeks/months old. I want to be able to manually sync and NOT have all of the hundreds of old, already viewed messages sent to my laptop. However, I DO want my desktop to receive all of my old messages so that I can have them when I return from traveling. Thanks.

Actually, your mail isn't 'synchronizing' in the conventional sense at all. And, you are effectively trying to make it do so manually at the present time. As you have discovered, this simply does not work.
The only way that you can effectively address your requirements is to use IMAP—rather than POP3—technology. Using IMAP will allow you to readily control what is stored on the server, and will provide a view into that data store when you use your portable computer.
While is is possible to use POP3 and set one computer to delete mail from the server and the other not to, this is potentially fraught with problems, and will not fully address your concerns.
An IMAP option is available from such providers as Apple with .Mac, AOL with AOL Mail and AIM Mail, and Google with GMail. You can convert an existing POP3 account with such a provider to IMAP with little difficulty, or initiate a new IMAP account with such a provider and forward mail to it from providers who do not offer such an option.

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPhone by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPhone. If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.

  • How to sync tables in scheduler DB#1 and scheduler DB#2

    Hi experts
    the issue is as following
    ====
Customer's BIP environment is as following
    [Publisher 1] [Publisher 2] ---------+---------> [ scheduler DB 1] (primary)
[ scheduler DB 2] (stand by)
    BIP :10.1.3.4.2  DB:  10.2.0.5
Customer use DB#1 at ordinary times, only when any issue happen and make DB#1 down, then Customer will use DB#2.
Now Customer need to make the following four tables synchronized in scheduler DB#1 and scheduler DB#2 every 10 mins(or shorter time).
    ========
    ・XMLP_SCHED_JOB
    ・XMLP_SCHED_OUTPUT
    ・XMLP_SCHED_SUBSCRIPTION
    ・SEQUENCE
    ========
    Questions are
    1. Does BIP support team have any supported steps to sync the four tables in scheduler DB#1 and scheduler DB#2?
2.Is it ok to just Sync the four table by extract difference data to a CSV file and sync the four tables by  SQLLDR.
or we need to Sync the entire schema not just a few tables
3.As CT needs to sync the four tables every 10 mins,at that time, Both BIP and DB are active,do we support to do sync in this status.
but for no document state it,Could development give me official answer for it?
    Thanks&Regards

    Hi Sanjo
login in as ora<SID>. Issue command sqlplus /nolog. Then issue connect / as sysdba.
This should take you to SQL prompt where you can trigger your queries.
    Hope it helps

Go to Settings>iCloud and set up the iCloud account you were using before by singing in with the same Apple ID.  Then turn the data you were syncing with your iCloud account back to On, and if prompted, choose merge.

  • Can't sync Work exchange 2007 email, calendar and contacts on my Mac

I am new to Mac. I've been trying to set up my work email, calendar and contacts (Exchange 2007) on my new personal Mac without much success. I have all contacts, calendars and mail syncronized on my Iphone, but when trying to sync calendars via Itunes with Mac ICal, all it does is add ICal entries onto my Iphone (and then they appear twice on iphone and work calendar)
Haven't figured out how to import contacts into email either, although I had some success in setting the account up as a pop account in Mail (we use OWA otherwise for web access)- but can't send, just receive.
Please help - where can I find some stept by step guidance / tutorials on how to do this? I don't want to subscribe to MobileMe or install any windows or Microsoft software on my Mac. Many thanks in advance.

I could very well be wrong, but here's what I did.
At my work we got an Exchange 2007 server and I got an account on it, so I set up my iPhone, but I didn't sync it to the calendars on my desktop Mac, instead I went into Mac Mail, Preferences, Accounts, then added an Exchange account inserting all the same account information that I had put into the iPhone. Then my iCal, Mail, Address Book all synced over the air. I do not have MobileMe, but I'm not sure what my work has on their Exchange server.
