Email sync - Gmail

Hi everyone,
I'm a Gmail user and have set my Blackberry Curve 9360 up to retrieve my emails etc.
However it's very frustrating when I read my emails on my laptop and when I look at my phone they're all still flashing as unread, despite me reading/replying to them/deleting them in my main mailbox online. Is there a way that you can set your emails up to actually sync with the device so I don't have to go through my mail twice on 2 different devices?
Even the most simple android phone has this capability so I'm struggling to see why I can't get this to work on my Blackberry. Contacted Blackberry help on Twitter and they weren't much use.
Any advice welcome. Jynx

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please refer:
KB05133 Email reconciliation features for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Depending on how you have your Gmail integrated, then you could be experiencing different results. For example, if you only allow GMail to face POP for your account, then you will only receive those reconciliation capabilities listed for POP. If you instead face IMAP, you will have more capabilities. Note carefully please that you control what GMail faces to the Internet for you -- within the GMail web interface, you control if it faces POP, IMAP, or both for your account. But if you change it, you will need to remove and re-integrate the account on your BB so that the new settings can be captured (they don't change on the device/BIS when you change them at GMail). You also need to be certain that, within your BB/BIS email configuration, that you have actually activated all of the reconciliation capabilities that are available.
Good luck!

  • Need help with email sync utilizing gmail...

I have the new curve 8520 and I use google sync for calendar and contacts. My question is regarding my emails syncing though. When I delete my email from my phone, it deletes from gmail, which is what I want. However, when I delete email on my my computer through gmail, it does not sync on my phone and I have to go into my phone and manually delete. How can I make my email sync up on both ends, both ways? Am I not being patient enough?

Try going into your Gmail on phone and click menu key and options... email reconciliation  and set your conflicts setting to mailbox wins and see if that helps

  • How do I stop the EMAIL sync between my desktop  and my laptop?

How do I stop the email sync between my desktop computer and my laptop? Right now, the laptop is set to automatically load my email when I click on mail. I use my desktop daily; laptop only when traveling. The laptop is somehow set to receive ALL messages, so I get messages that are several weeks/months old. I want to be able to manually sync and NOT have all of the hundreds of old, already viewed messages sent to my laptop. However, I DO want my desktop to receive all of my old messages so that I can have them when I return from traveling. Thanks.

Actually, your mail isn't 'synchronizing' in the conventional sense at all. And, you are effectively trying to make it do so manually at the present time. As you have discovered, this simply does not work.
The only way that you can effectively address your requirements is to use IMAP—rather than POP3—technology. Using IMAP will allow you to readily control what is stored on the server, and will provide a view into that data store when you use your portable computer.
While is is possible to use POP3 and set one computer to delete mail from the server and the other not to, this is potentially fraught with problems, and will not fully address your concerns.
An IMAP option is available from such providers as Apple with .Mac, AOL with AOL Mail and AIM Mail, and Google with GMail. You can convert an existing POP3 account with such a provider to IMAP with little difficulty, or initiate a new IMAP account with such a provider and forward mail to it from providers who do not offer such an option.

  • Email sync with

I use Outlook as my central location for managing both business and personal email, calendar, contacts, task and memo.  I am a consultant and when working with a client they give me a POP3 company email account.  I currently use BB desk manager to sync calendar, contact, task and memo to my BB curve 8530, but would like also to sync emails.  I'm getting tired of coming home and having to cleanup my emails in outlook.  What are my options?  My personal email is gmail, does google apps help my situtation?  Thank you.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Via BIS integration, reconciliation features available will be governed by this KB:
KB05133Email reconciliation features for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Further, you get one and only one reconciliation pathway...so, if you are receiving these emails OTA, then the KB applies and all reconciliation is OTA only. So, depending on the capabilities of the email systems they provide to you (as per the KB), some may work and some may not.
Another key is the fact that all reconciliation is between each client (BB/BIS, Outlook, etc.) and the email server. Hence, whatever features are available for reconciliation depend on the capabilities of each email client. BIS can reconcile as per the KB above. But, if for instance you have your Outlook open while you are away, then it will receive emails on whatever schedule it has...but, in the case of Outlook for instance, it has no capability to reconcile items deleted on a server against itself (except where MS Exchange is concerned, of course).
Hope that helps explain a little about how it all works!

  • Are there any Outlook Email Sync Tools Available f...

Hi, I've had the n900 for a while now, bit peeved with it, was sold as having proper tbt gps etc, that's another story I guess and one which is well documented elsewhere . Only getting round to setting up my email sync now and guess what, it doesn't work!! You don't seem to be able to sync emails between Outlook and the n900, not using PC Suite or OVI suite from what I can see. My work domain and mail is hosted on gmail, I leave a copy of the messages on the server so I can get in Outlook and on the device. Sometimes when I read a message, or reply to a message on the n900 it will never come through to Outlook, even though a copy is being left on the server. it would be nice if a sync tool was available for this, anyone know of any?
    Thanks
    Eamonn

you have a couple of options.
first, you have to know that ALL messages you send from your n900 do not get put on the server, but are actually in your "sent" folder on you n900.   so you will need to open that folder, and select all, then move to a folder on your server.....should you be using imap.
next.   i would recommend that you set up your email as imap.  it is similar to using MS exchange except that it is free, it does not sync your contacts, it does not sync you calendar.  but works great.  you will be able to see all your folders on your gmail account and even be able to transfer all your sent email on you n900 to your sent email on your gmail account.
i would stay away from OVI suite as it will just make a mess.   with the n900, it is not necessary to have anything sync with outlook, except your contacts, notes, calendar.  so use PC Suite instead as it works solid!
now, since you are new, there is a way to make your n900 email work much faster and smoother as well.
first, install these repositories to your n900 for future use.  just click on the links within the browser of your n900 and they will auto-install for you.
    EXTRAS-TESTING
    EXTRAS-DEVEL
now open your appmanager and install rootsh.  (this will help you for later as you read in this forum...at least for things that CPitchford and Ceroberts75 post)
now, here are directions to make your email client work much faster.  since i cannot attach a .tar file to this, if you send me a pm, i will send you a link to download a safe copy of it for you to use.
save the .tar file to root folder (your root folder is going to be n900 or whatever you named your unit)
    open xterm
    sudo gainroot
    cd MyDocs
    to install, use this code:
    tar xzf modest-3.4.2-baxyp-1.tar.gz  -C /
NOTE:  There are 2 spaces after the ".gz" and 1 space after the "-C"
it will just do an immediate prompt again, and seem like nothing happened, but it did.
to uninstall and go to original settings, use this code:
    apt-get --reinstall install libtinymail-camel-1.0-0 modest
now for the Nokia Messaging:  i started a thread for this Nokia Messaging.   Nokia messaging will auto-sync all your email like stated above, but there are different limitations to alerts and such on the n900 and if you only have a few email addresses, imo, it is better to just set them up in the modest email client (standard email installed).  it will also save a few taps everytime you have to see the email.
    FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS:
with symbian, you just need to go to email.nokia.com and install it.
but...on maemo, it is built in.
    open email client
    menu
    new account
next (wait for it to search)
    choose your region
    service provider:  Nokia Messaging
    next
e-mail address: (to the nokia messaging account you have for login)
password: (to the nokia messaging account you have for login)
    next
it will search...and probably have an error with server and then ask to have you put in all the advanced information.  use this information below:
    email address:
    your nokia messaging login email
    incoming:
    mail.nokia.com
    143
    outgoing:
    mail.nokia.com
    587
    with no securities used.
    next
this should do it and then you will see it start to sync.
then you can go into the settings of nokia messaging and set up the sync settings and times.
now when you open your email client, you will see "Nokia Messaging"
when you tap on that, you will now see all the email addresses you have set up for nokia messaging.
you can add up to 10 email addresses on the nokia messaging....and i am currently using 6 on my integrated email client...so you can have at least 16 email address on your n900 now, probably up to 20.

  • Syncing Gmail Calendar and Yahoo Mail

I'm thinking of getting an iPhone. Is it possible to sync my Gmail calendar and both my Yahoo and Gmail mailbox?mail

    Yes.
You can access a Gmail account as an Exchange account with the iPhone's Mail application which provides for Push access with received messages and syncing Gmail contacts and calendar events over the air.
Yahoo supports accessing a Yahoo account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail application but Yahoo doesn't support IMAP account access with an email client on your computer. You can access a Yahoo account as an IMAP or POP account with the iPhone's Mail application.
You can access both accounts at the same time.

  • Cron vs other methods to automate email sync

    Hello,
I would like to automate the process of email sync using
    mbsync. Manually i run
    mbsync gmail-inbox
I heard cron can do this, but cron makes me nervous. To me
its a base component of arch. The arch wiki says its
"commonly used for system maintenance and administration"
task. That sounds like its for more 'essential' tasks then
    just syncing email.
Also, checking email can be a noisy process, that makes me nervous
    as well.
So what is the preferred method for what i want to do. Cron,
some sore of loop [thats all i got]...?
    Thank you!

Cron has a crontab for the root user as well as normal users.  If you do "crontab -e" it will be your crontab.  If you do "sudo crontab -e" it will be the root user's
I use it to sync offlineimap for myself, as using offlineimap as a service seems to have way too much overhead.  Though I have been thinking about looking into setting it to sync only my inbox and spam frequently and do a mass sync of all of it once a day... maybe that will help it out when it has three accounts to sync... that's my issue though.  Back to yours.
So yes, this is fine.  But you may want to put a few lines of script into place to make sure that there doesn't exist any hung or dead processes of syncing and kill those before it runs the sync.
BTW, what is mbsync? Nevermind, found it.

  • Mail for Exchange 3.0.50 - doesn' t sync Gmail any...

I have been using successfully Mail for Exchange v. 2.9.158 on my Nokia N95-1 to access Gmail and Google Calendar. Yesterday I have upgraded to Mail for Exchange v.3.0.50 and now I am facing the following problems: 1.When running Full Resync Mail for Exchange has forced the set storage destination for message to be changed from Memory Card to Phone Memory When I tried to make Full Resync with Mail for Exchange it at the end it forced to switch from using Memory card for storing messages to Phone memory. According message has been displayed stating that Memory card can not be used to store emails and therefore it switched to Phone memory. However at that moment there was enough extra space on both kinds of memories , and that one on Memory card was larger than available space on Phone Memory. I do not want to use Phone memory to store my emails as N95 Phone memory is so small. So then after Mail for Exchange finished a synchronization cycle I have switched again to Memory card option as a destination of all my messages - and Mail for Exchange has created MfE on Memory card too. I made few attempts, by disabling Email sync and then running Full Resync again, the result was the same/ After that I started to experience problem with synchronization that I never had with version 2.9.158. 2. Synchronization of email except starting Full Sync and few cycles afterward doesn't work anymore and provides on each synchronization cycle an error message "sync failed. If that continues please contact your administrator". When I switch storage to Phone Memory, however, evn with such message sync work. When I switch storage to Memory Card then after sync cycle there are all IMAP folders in place but all empty. My configuration setting now set as following: Connection Exchange Server: m.google.com Secure Connection: Yes Access Point: DTAC-Internet Sync while roaming: No Use default port: Yes * Credentials Username: [my email] Password: [my password] Domain: [empty] *Sync schedule: Peak sync schedule: Every 15 minutes Off-peak sync schedule: Every 15 minutes Peak start time: 08:00 Peak end time: 17:00 Peak days Mo. Tu, We, Th, Fr In case of conflict erver Wins *Calendar Synchronize Calendar: Yes Sync Calendar back: 6 months Initial Sync: Keep items on phone * Tasks Synchronize Tasks: No * Contacts Synchronize Contacts: Disable Initial Sync: * E-mail Synchronize Email: Yes E-mail address : [my email address] Show new mail popup: Yes Use signature: No Signature: None When sending mail: Send immediately Sync messaged back : 1 day How I can resolve it problem?

    UP!
I have absolutely the same trouble.
When I sync gmail for the first time everything goes clear. After that I CAN recieve NEW mail on my phone on next syncs. I mean NEW is the mail, that haven't been read before with any other client.
But if I read this mail on other client, say in browser, the synchronization doesn't work anymore. I recieve no mails from that point.
    Regards.
P.S. went back to 2.9.158, everything works well

  • Download only some selected emails from gmail

For a 3 week period I have used a different machine with Thunderbird set up to read my mail as I normally use. When I went back to my usual machine I tried importing my mail database, however something went wrong. I only have my old emails, but nothing from what I received over the 3 weeks.
Thunderbird continues to sync new emails with gmail via POP, but those 3 weeks are missing and not being downloaded. Is it possible to download specific emails without downloading all my emails all over again (and sorting them out in my inbox, again)?

You already asked this question, so I'm not sure why you asked it again.
Please keep all responses in one question so that the continuity is not lost. Hopefully the instructions I put in other question will resolve the situation,

  • How do I re-download my emails from Gmail?

I suffered a disk failure (XP SP3) and have now re-loaded an old copy of my full system including Thunderbird - it is working fine. I have then "marked" my recent emails in GMail as "Unread" and placed them in its Inbox, but they do not download. I do not see an option in Thunderbird Server Settings for POP to re-download. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

When you setup an email account with POP they are not usually left on the server. It is IMAP accounts that sync mail with the server. If you email is saved on the gmail webmail, you can setup your email account with IMAP on Thunderbird and the gmail messages will download to Thunderbird.

  • ICloud email sync question

    Hello,
I am a bit confused about iCloud email functionality.  I was under the impression that iCloud was supposed to keep it's mailbox on all of your devices synchronized.  So if I'm on the iCloud Web page and look at my inbox there, read a message and delete it, should it not also be automatically deleted from the iCloud inbox on my iPhone?  This is not happening, the message still remains visible in my iPhone's inbox folder.
If the message should have also been deleted from my iPhone perhaps I set something up incorrectly?  If not, then what is the advantage of iCloud email vs Gmail?
    Many thanks.

i'm punting until next week. i think they have a lot of bugs to work out. i've never seen the community support pages humming like this. everyone is having a sync problem of one sort or another. hate to get all zen on you, but i'd say, don't worry about it for about a week.
