Email trashed my Address Book

I received an email that added 9000 addresses to my address book. Now I just get the spinning beach ball. How do I fix this problem?
And what did I have set that would have let this happen? Something in the preferences?

This happened by opening/viewing a received message that included text only?
You didn't open an attachment or select a link included with this message?
Did you recognize the sender's email address?
And one more question, do you keep the message preview pane open below the message list which opens a message selected in the message list and do you automatically render all HTML received?
If so, you should close the preview pane which will require double-clicking on a message in the message list to open it. If you don't recognize the sender's email address, you should be very careful when opening a message and you should not automatically render all HTML received if you are currently doing so.

There is no such Trojan or other malware known today that will do that using OS X nor has there ever been one. The most probable explanation is that somebody hacked into your e-mail account on the server, so you should change that password to something stronger right away. If it had come from your Mac then there would almost certainly be copies of those messages in your Sent Mail mailbox.

  • Cannot send some emails from the address book. Comcast says it is not a server problem.

Keep getting this message when trying to send a group email from the address book -"The size of the message you are trying to send exceeds a temporary size limit of the server. The message was not sent, try to reduce the message size or wait some time and try again. The server responded: 4.1.1... temporary failure."
Comcast has checked it - the issue is not the server they say. This problem just started 4 days ago. It appears other people have this problem on the thunderbird forum and it has not been resolved yet.

The Comcast server is issuing the error message. Have them explain how this is not their problem.

  • Mail: Where are email messages and address book saved?

    Good morning.
I would like to backup both emails and the address book in Mail.
Where are these located on my harddrive?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Again Bruce,
    On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    For Address Book, quit AB...
    Files...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
    Folders...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/

  • Spam email from my Address Book

Every day I get spam emails from names that are in my address book. I notice this because the names that pop up are not always common, often unique names of folks I have worked with recently.
It's as if someone hijacked or monitors my email. This occurs on more on my non.mac email address.
    Possible? Thanks!

Do you publish a weblog or any other online forum where you might reveal your email address and those of your acquaintances?

  • Multiple email recipients from address book

I have not done this since I got my Mac. I want to send emails to about 50 of maybe 200 people in my address book. I tried highlighting but did not work. Can anyone help please?
    Shari

Create a new Group in Address Book. Select the names of the people you wish to use in your mailing list. When you open the New Message window in Mail you may drag the group from AB to Mail or simply put the name of the group on the To: field and the group will be added automatically.

  • Old Email Contacts v Address Book...

When I begin typing the name of a contact in the email address bar, a range of possible contacts appear, including old email addresses even though I have erased old addresses from my address book...? Sometimes I don't notice and my mail goes to an 'old address' for my contsct instead of the new one. How can I erase old addresses from Mail please?

  • Batch Remove emails from Apple Address Book

    Hi everyone,
I have a csv file contained all the email addresses that were bounced, all originating from my Address Book. This bounce file was obtained using another software (Email Bounce Handler by Maxprog).
I was now wondering if there was any way to automatize the removal of these email addresses from my Address Book, with an Apple script or any kind of extension.
Thanks in advance for your attention and your help.
    Cheers,
    Colin

Oops -- I just had to turn iCloud on in the System settings on the iPhone, then the Contacts synched.

  • IPhone email, Mail and Address Book (and MobileMe)

    Hi All.
Can someone please explain to me how Mail is able to use the Address Book contacts - if in fact it does use the Address Book contacts - on my laptop and my desktop?
I am currently on Thunderbird but have other software that I am told syncs to Address Book. This would make my life easier. I am thinking about converting to Mail instead of Thunderbird (to cut out one step in the "food chain" but I want to be sure I am making the right move and understand what I am doing.
Also, can anyone explain to me what my iPhone email is accessing when it tries to do an autocomplete?
Do the "Contacts" on my iPhone sync up to Address Book in any way via MobileMe??
Thanks for help on any of that...
    Jon

    Hi Daiya.
I can't tell you how much help this is.
Yes, iPhone Contacts sync to Address Book, via either iTunes sync or MobileMe.
This is sort of funny isn't it? That they are called Contacts on the iPhone and Address Book on MobileMe and on my laptop?
I believe the iPhone autocomplete checks both your Contacts AND any recently used addresses--there's no built-in method to clear the recently used addresses, as far as I know.
This is true for both MobileMe mail, GMail and for my website based email ([email protected]), yes?
You might also check out Postbox--from what I understand, it's built on Thunderbird, but it says it talks to the Mac Address Book and other parts of OS X.
    Thanks!
Integration with OS X features does seem to be Thunderbird's weak spot--I actually use MS Entourage, which has reasonable integration, much better than Thunderbird. I'd say it's not so much that you need to cut out a step in the food chain as that Thunderbird just doesn't participate in the OS X food chain.
Hi. Thanks. I'm planning on getting CardScan (where I handle Business Cards) synced up with Address Book. I can do this and it would be really simple I am told.
The question is now where do I go from there.
I have not read up on PostBox yet but I am starting to think that I need to perfect my Address Book in Thunderbird and export it to Address Book. Then I can start handling email in Mail.
If I do this, my thought is that my business cards will be synced with Address Book, Address Book will be synced with Mail (on my laptop and my desktop) and Address Book will be synced with my iPhone Contacts (where I compose email).
    How does that sound??!!
    Long time goal over here...

  • Mail does not send emails out of address book under Mavericks

Since I upgradet to Mavericks I cannot drag and drop addresses from the address book into mail to send them out. Anybody a solution or idea? Thank you!

Sorry, new mail program deleted that function.  Start to type the person name or group name in the email and it will fill in the rest.

  • How to foreward an email using the addresse book?

How to insert an addresse book entry into an email.

when you forward, press F9 to turn on the contact sidebar.

  • Can I email my entire address book without adding each address to an email independently?

    any help would be awesome!
    Thanks, everyone!

I'm not following what you want to do.
Do you want to email your address book to someone?
    OR
Do you want to send an email everyone in your address book?
The first is what I described. The second is what Bob described.
Ahh. I think I understand your subject, now. What you meant was,
"Can I send an email to everyone in my address book without ..."
Yes, as Bob described. In the To line, type the name of the group you wish to send to. You can't use "All Contacts," though. You could either create a new group and drag all contacts to that group, or select All Contacts, select a contact and type cmd-A to select all, then drag those all to the To field.

  • Is there an easy way to import entourage email groups into address book?

I don't want to import the contacts individually, but as group. Any assistance would be appreciated. Entourage 2004 and address book is 4.1

First go to the avid site and download the avid codecs for the mac. Not sure if they'll have compatible codecs for such an old version, but worth a shot. then do a test export from the avid. It would probably be smart to convert the clips using compressor to match your fcp sequence settings. Not sure if the timecode would come across. You could note the timecode of the first frame on the avid and then modify the clip once imported into fcp. Test your workflow before doing a lot of work.
You might also check if automatic duck's got something that would work.

  • Email Not Recognizing Address Book Senders

I have five different e-mail accounts so I get a lot of spam. I have my e-mail set to move any message from a sender not in my Address Book to Junk. This always worked GREAT in 10.3, but with Tiger I have NEVER been able to get this feature to work. Even e-mails that I send myself go to junk. I keep hoping that an update will fix the problem but I'm at 10.4.3 and still no luck. Does anyone have this problem, or a solution?
    Thanks

Am I really the only one who is/has ever experienced this?

  • TS3276 I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails to people in my address book. Hotmail advised me to change my password for that account, which I did. Why won't mail recognise the new password?

I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails from my address book. Hotmail advised me to delete all contacts and change the password for that account, which I did on my laptop running windows XP. The change was successful and I was able to send and receive emails with no problem. I then had to change the account password on my iPhone 4s, which I did and it too was successful but when I came to change the password on my iMac, running the latest version of Lion it would not recognise the new password. I have tried to remove the account details and re-install but every time I go to add new account my old details are in the box. This is very frustrating as I use my iMac for all my profects and I need to access my email. Please help.

    hi guys,
I had already deleted all reference to the hotmail account in question from the keychain access app, I have also tried to delete and re-instal the account details from within mail. The icon in the side bar dissapears but when I go to Add Account, the old account details are in the new account box. I then input my new password but am told that the server does not recognise it. If I access hotmail via google on the iMac I can get into my account with no problems. I am thinking there must be some other form of security system within the mac software that is blocking the new password. This is driving me nuts. I have been trying to resolve this for the last two days. Thank you for your advise anyway.
