Email trouble on ipad

All of a sudden I can't delete my emails from the iPad. I've tried restarting it but it doesn't seem to have helped. A message comes up 'unable to move message. This message could not be deleted to trash'. Also when I click on emails to read them, it doesn't seem to register that I have read them and still lists them as unread. Originally it was crashing whenever I entered the mail icon but the reboot seems to have sorted that. When I go into the mail setting all it says is 'accounts are currently syncing'. I assume this has something to do with my emails on my laptop, however, that is currently broken so I can't plug the iPad in to sync, anyone have any ideas how to solve this?!

Email account mailboxes and messages are not included with the iTunes sync process which would be a nightmare. The only way mailboxes are kept synchronized with the server for an email account is with an Exchange or IMAP account.
Try deleting and recreating the account on your iPad.

    Did you enter the message text correctly?
    The IMAP mail server needs to be imap.gmail.com; you stated the message said you can't connect to imapgmail.com.

  • HT1430 Trouble getting email on my ipad.  I have deleted and re-added the original email address in Settings. Then restarted the ipad.  Still continue to get the endless cycling when I try to get on my yahoo email account.  Does anyone have a fix for this

    No, your Yahoo account is not in iCloud (which only handles iCloud mail), it is in Yahoo, and the Yahoo mail account is on your iPad.
    But the MacBook Pro will have none of it! I write this question now as I fear that I will be totally demented very soon and unable to formulate my thoughts clearly!
    Get the correct settings for your account from Yahoo and set it up manually.
    By the way, I also find the "password" issue problematical. It seems Apple want my Apple password rather than my eMail password. All very confusing.

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

    I suddenly cannot send email from my IPad Air. Keep getting message that my email recipient
    was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.  Don't understand what this means as I have been able to send email before.

    Paula, in most cases this message appears when you are sending email from a ISP server not in the pop settings and SMTP settings in your email program.
    In example if I send out email from my iPad I must be on my own isp's server to send. I have roadrunner but if I send email out using say Verizon's email server I will get a reject notice.
    You did not say what email program you are using but if it is hotmail or yahoo or your isp's email in two of these email accounts there are stand alone apps which work much better than the stock email program on the phone.
    If you are using road runner or another ISP email you must get the proper Pop3 (incoming) server settings and SMTP (send) settings from your ISP
    You can then just go into the Settings-Mail, Contacts and Calendar section and click on the email account and change to the proper settings from your ISP.
    You could delete as you were told but why bother when only the sending and receiving settings need to be entered.
    If the settings are correct, on an iPhone it tests the settings. If correct send an email. If incorrect you will need the proper settings from your ISP.
    It is actually very easy to do.

    About ~20 hours later, this ended up solving itself. We can send email using the '.icloud' email from both the iPad and iPhone.  Advise would be 'wait' before you start seeking alteranatives like yahoo, hotmail, etc.  This definitely is a convenient way to keep all your 'cloud' information in a centralized place, including the common email...

    Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

    Thanks.  I got the problem fixed.  Spent time with the Apple folks and was kicked up to a senior advisor.  It seems the problem was with my internet provider - Tmie Warner.  Remember I could use the old ipad and the iphone to send mail.  I checked all the specifics between the three units.  It seems that TW is changing over from the RR.com  to TWC.com.  Since the new ipad air was just set up, it fell under the new TWC mail specifics.

I am receiving mail in my Cox account but not my gmail account.It was working fine until the power failure. It keeps telling me, the user name or password for Gmail is incorrect.     I agree, unplug and replug your router, then reset your iPad by holding down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red power down slider, and wait til you see the silver apple. let it reboot and then try your connection.
    Chances are rebooting the router will help. You may also need to talk to cox. They may need to reset something on their end.

    I have this same issue.  Resetting does not affect the issue.  I have tried syncing it with itunes.  Turning the ipad off and restarting...
    It says user name or password is incorrect.  Strange.  It has worked for over 6 months just fine.  I reentered the info and still get the same response.Anyone have this same issue and find a solution?

    The fact that you can receive means you have a valid e mail address, and have established the connection to the incoming server, so all of that works.  Since the send does not work, that means your outgoing server is rejecting whatever settings you used formthe outgoing set up.  Try them again. 
    Google your particular isp, and ipad and many times you will find the exact settings needed for your isp.  Or tell us here, and soneone else may be on the same isp.  Some mail services need you to change a port, or have a unique name for the outgoing server.  
    Kep trying.

    "Your email account" means to tap on the name of your email account. Whatever it is listed as in the settings.
    In my mail settings, one of my email accounts is a Comcast account. I tap on the Comcast name and it brings up this window.
    Then I tap on the arrow under the Outgoing mail server smtp setting to get to the next window.
    In the resulting window, I then tap on the arrow next to the smtp server under the Primary Server setting.
    That brings up this window in which I check to make sure that my user name and password have been entered correctly. If those items are missing, enter them in the appropriate fields and then tap done.
