Email Unusable; Airport screwed up too.

Over the past few weeks, my wireless ability is completely screwed up. I will connect to my network, but then the connection drops and I get a message that Airport is "scanning." It does this constantly. I can't even access the Internet without using Ethernet. Now, my mail is screwed up too. It hangs constantly, messages won't load or send, etc. That just started and it happens even if I am plugged in with an Ethernet cable so it's not the wireless problem that I've been having. This occurs whether I am trying to access my email the usual way or if I go to ".mac," now mobileme (which is useless as far as I can tell).
Help. My computer is rapidly becoming nothing more than a glorified typewriter and I think it's b/c of software updates b/c my son has NO trouble connecting to our home network with his PC laptop.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.

Alternate emaiI addresses are not used for resetting security questions, only your rescue email address is. If you don't have access to your rescue email account (you won't be able to change the address until you can answer your questions) then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the steps on this page to update your rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620

  • I would like to know why ASC removed my comments and pleads saying they were rantings?  Maybe so, but if you received more than 100 emails a day, you would too! I have done all the right things to not receive these emails but to no avail. Can someone help?

For months now I have been puting up with receiving emails generated from Apple Support Communities - sometimes more than 100 a day. Needless to say I am angry.  I have done everything I have been told to do so as not to receive them BUT they still keep on coming all day and all night.  It is messing up my sytem and taking too much time out of my busy day.  When I responded to another person's same problem, I immediately received an email from Apple Support Communities telling me that they have removed my responses from Apple Support Communities!  This, after only one day, when I have been writing and requesting help to have these emails stop from cloging up my email!  Of course I am upset and now even more.
Please, if someone knows how to stop these emails from entering my box, I would really appreciate hearing.  In the meantime I continue to delete one by one.Linda166

At the top of this page, click your name, where yours says "Welcome, linda166":
Click the link "Manage email notifications":
Click the checkbox at the upper right - to the right of where it says "Date" - this selects all of the messages on the page:
Click the button "Remove selected notifications":
Click "Next" and repeat for each page. You may have less than 213 pages.

  • Why am I getting all these emails about Airport Problems ?

I mentioned previously that I had a minor problem with Airport Express - just that it was flashing amber . Apart from that it is working fine. However, since it was a bit of a mystery I checked in with Apple Support to see if I could find out anything.
I signed up  and entered my query.
I got a few answers one of which was to the affect that Airport Express was notifying me of a Firmware update.
Hmm interesting ! there were many letters complaining huge problems with Airport AFTER downloading and installing the Firmware update, so I decided not to do it.
it ain't really broke so i can't really fix it.
Since then my mailbox has been inundated with letters posted on Apple Support telling of the woes of Airport Express and Airport Extreme
I have signed in numerous times and checked the box "don't sent mail" but still they come, in Spades.
I have deleted hundred and still they come! I have posted to the Apple Support page and still they comes.
There are two things to be learned from this:
    1) Airport Express and Airport Extreme causes a huge number of problems judging by the outpouring of complaints. (Apple should take note)
    2) Be careful about signing on to 'Help' sites they can be time wasters.
If anyone else has this problem .Please don't advise me of it - I want to sign out of Apple Support and delete it from my memory

  • Airport printing prints too small

I recently bought a used Airport Extreme 4th generation, and have it hooked up to my 2009 Mac Pro with Mavericks. I got my old Epson R2400 to work wirelessly hooked up to the Airport- great! One big problem is that all of my prints are coming out half size? I know how to pick 100% in the Epson printer dialog, but with everything the same as it was with the USB connected to computer presets, it comes out too small?
I looked at document setup in Photoshop, etc., no luck.
Anyone else solve this problem or have suggestions?

It just may be that you need to install the latest print driver for this printer. The following link is from Epson support for your Mac.

  • Can recieve but not send email with Airport

    Hi there,
I'm currently using my mac to connect to the internet via an airport express configured on my partners powerbook, it all works fine to connect to the internet and to recieve emails through 'Mail' but i can't send any...
Could anyone offer any advice on how to reconfigure my settings to allow me to use my emails properly?
Incidently, the existing network connection i'm now using is through BT internet whereas my account is with virgin.net.
Why can i recieve mail but not send?
    OK, hope someone can help...
    Thanks, steven.

Without you being specific about your problem, I am guessing you have the same problem I had. You can look at the following
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75124
or describe the error message that comes up when you send e-mail.

  • Raw SATA drive screw holes too shallow for 2008 Mac Pro carrier

Mac Pro early 2008. Bought a WD Black, 5-year warrantee, bare SATA drive to replace a 1TB. The 2TB drive works fine in an external enclosure, but not in an internal bay. There are four self contained screws in the drive carrier that mate with corresponding holes in the bare drive. For the 2TB bare drive, the two screws closer to the connecting pins cannot screw all the way in - the holes are not deep enough - and the drive will not mount. The carrier goes in all the way, but I deduce that the pins do not mate. I tried two carriers and two bays. Other bare drives are fine.
System Preferences/Serial-ATA does not see the 2TB drive. Neither does Disk Utility, nor FAST status.
Return the drive and try another 2TB? Clip or replace the captive screws?

Those are intriguing, but I wonder if they would also be too long.
I would trim some of the existing bolts down, or buy some of those ones you posted and, if needed, trim them down. I have an electrician's tool that has bolt-trimmers for common sizes (and 6-32 is one of them). The bolt trimmer has threaded holes near the pivot point for several different small sizes. Here is a picture of a similar tool:
The poor man's version would be to thread a 6-32 nut onto the bolt, cut it off, then remove the nut to clean up the cut threads.

  • Can't send email through airport extreme

Can recieve email through entourage using my airport, but can't send. This occurs only with my airport. I am able to send if hooked into another wireless network or verizon air card.

GerleMan, Welcome to the discussion area!
    There are two probably causes:
Your ISP is blocking the port used by Entourage to send mail and the ISP used by the other wireless networks is not.
    OR
Your ISP doesn't like OS X's default MTU seting of 1500. If this were the case it should also affect any large file transfers you try to make from your Mac to the Internet.

  • How can I change my security questions? I don't even know the email it keeps sending it too I just want to buy music for my iTunes

I need to change my security questions and I don't know the email that it keeps saying the directions for it keeps sending it too.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

  • Do I Need To Back-Up This File? Airport Utility Problem Too....

    Hi all....
I need to start by thanking those in this particular forum for all of your help. My Time Capsule was unable to complete it's initial back-up - I made 4 calls and 3 hours on the phone with Apple Care and they were not able to figure out my Time Capsule problem.
Scanning the forums I saw several suggestions, one was to exclude some files so you can zone in on the problem. First file I tried - worked! It was labeled Previous System - I believe this is the file for my old operating system (Tiger). Is it worth scanning this file to find the problem - or do I even need this file backed up?
Also, recently I have been having trouble with my airport utility. Whenever I select Manual Setup - the program freezes and I get the spinning wheel. My network is working fine - but I can't get my other cpu (PC) to print from the network printer. When I try to print - it just comes up as an error with no details. I figured it was a network setting - but like I said, when I click on the manual set-up - I just get the spinning wheel and I have to force quit. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Nick

  • Built in airport screwing up

I have a 20" Imac 5th generation (i think - its the white one, not the new aluminium one) and ever since I got it (since last Christmas) the airport hasn't been working properly. In the house, we have a Powerbook and a Toshiba laptop which are all WiFi capable. These 2 laptops have no problem connecting to our wireless modem but my computer has difficulty picking up a signal. Its definately not because of the placement of the computer as both my WiFi capable mobile phone and laptops can connect from the same room. I've tried turning the airport on and off, restarting the computer, turning it off and turning it back on - nothing seems to be working! It works fine when I use an ethernet cable so it is definately the airport that isn't right. Since I haven't had it for a year yet would I be able to claim (sorry don't know the right terminology) the 1 year warranty? And how would I go about doing this? Just calling up a local service centre?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Something that I forgot to mention was that I bought this computer overseas and no longer have the proof of purchase (I may be able to dig up the credit card bill that would say its from an Apple retailer but Im not sure if thats enough...). I put my serial number in the "About Your Support Coverage" in the Support homepage and it says that I got the computer on November 6th 2006. Would that be enough to use the limited warranty?
I guess if it doesn't I could sell this computer and get the new one... They are cheaper...

  • HT5312 i forget rescue email adress and security question too ,..... any sloution please reply ASAP

i can't buy any thing because i forgot my both security question and resuce emial address please help to get out from this problem PLEASE!!!

If you don't know your rescue email account (you won't be able to view/change it until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get the questions reset.
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down the page that you posted from to view/change your rescue email address for potential future use, or if it's available in your country you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570
