Email virus on iPad

HI I received a email from FedEx that said they could not deliver a package and to click on a link to get more information. Well I clicked on it and was directed to a web page , at the top was a 404 title but the rest was in a foreign language. My question is did this infect my iPad 3 ?  Thanks

There are no viruses for the iPad, but that's not to say that you can't be fooled into giving up private information to a fake website.
Don't click on the link in the email you were sent - it may well be another fake. I'd advise you to go directly to your mail provider's website (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc), make sure your browser shows the correct address and is secured (https:// - many browsers use a padlock or green bar to indicate it's secure) and change your password there. Make sure you also change your password on the iPad and any other devices you use to access email.

  • What do I do if I opened a bad email on my ipad?

What do I do if I opened a bad email on my IPad?

If it is genuinely from USPS, then no, its likley not a virus. However, it is also likley NOT actually from USPS but is a bit of SPAM, Phishing, or malware.
But as already pointed out, it cannot install anything on iOS. The only real risk is clicking on a link and then responding to anything.

  • Has anyone experienced virus on ipad

My iPad turned most of my emails into messages sent by no one, no object and dated 01/01/70. When I tried to delete one of these e-mails it turned off and crashed. I cannot turn it on, neither charge it. It is dead... :-(
Has anyone ever experienced sorts of viruses on iPad/iPhone or similar problem?
    Please help!
    thanks,
    Simo

It is very unlikely to be a virus if your OS is stock (i.e. you have't jailbroken it.)
Apple's iron grip on its software and hardware makes viruses for the iPad few and far between. It's more likely to be a bug in the software than a virus, what version of iOS are you running?

  • I mistakenly opened a nefarious email on my iPad, is it okay?

    Hi,
I accidentally opened an potentially nefarious email on my iPad. It contained odd symbols - nothing in it was legible. I deleted the message right away but since it was the only thing in my trash bin, it opened as soon as I went it to delete it completely. Is my iPad okay?

Yes, there are currently no viruses or spyware/malware in the wild that affect iOS devices.

  • The 'good evening' email virus

    Hello All,
I received an email infected titled 'Good Evening' from a friend last night. unfortunately, i opened the link which took me to an ad like website. I believe this is a virus known as the 'good evening' email virus. I am surprised this was not detected/intercepted d by my Ipad. Is there a risk that my iPad may have been now affected as a result? Would random emails in my contacts list be receiving the same message from me now? Is there anything I should do to 'scan' or 'clean' my iPad? I would very much welcome advice please.

You might want to let your friend know about this. Tell him to contact his e-mail provider. Make sure she/he changes his/her password. Your friend might have no idea. I've been there. Happily, my friends know me well enough that I would not send the e-mails I supposedly sent. I've also received them. Again, have him/her change password.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Cannot send email from my IPad Air

I suddenly cannot send email from my IPad Air. Keep getting message that my email recipient
was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.  Don't understand what this means as I have been able to send email before.

Paula, in most cases this message appears when you are sending email from a ISP server not in the pop settings and SMTP settings in your email program.
In example if I send out email from my iPad I must be on my own isp's server to send. I have roadrunner but if I send email out using say Verizon's email server I will get a reject notice.
You did not say what email program you are using but if it is hotmail or yahoo or your isp's email in two of these email accounts there are stand alone apps which work much better than the stock email program on the phone.
If you are using road runner or another ISP email you must get the proper Pop3 (incoming) server settings and SMTP (send) settings from your ISP
You can then just go into the Settings-Mail, Contacts and Calendar section and click on the email account and change to the proper settings from your ISP.
You could delete as you were told but why bother when only the sending and receiving settings need to be entered.
If the settings are correct, on an iPhone it tests the settings. If correct send an email. If incorrect you will need the proper settings from your ISP.
It is actually very easy to do.

About ~20 hours later, this ended up solving itself. We can send email using the '.icloud' email from both the iPad and iPhone.  Advise would be 'wait' before you start seeking alteranatives like yahoo, hotmail, etc.  This definitely is a convenient way to keep all your 'cloud' information in a centralized place, including the common email...

  • TS3899 Cannot send email with new iPad air.  Works fine with old iPad and iPhone.

Cannot send email with new iPad air.  Works fine with old iPad and iPhone.  I have deleted account and reinstalled.

Thanks.  I got the problem fixed.  Spent time with the Apple folks and was kicked up to a senior advisor.  It seems the problem was with my internet provider - Tmie Warner.  Remember I could use the old ipad and the iphone to send mail.  I checked all the specifics between the three units.  It seems that TW is changing over from the RR.com  to TWC.com.  Since the new ipad air was just set up, it fell under the new TWC mail specifics.

  • I had a power failure 2 days ago, have power now, but cannot send email from my iPad. Everything was fine before that. The box says cannot send mail, the user name or password for Gmail is incorrect. I haven't changed anything. I need help. Thanks

    Hi
I had a power failure 2 days ago, my computer is running again, but now I cannot send email from my iPad using Cox or my gmail account. I am receiving mail in my Cox account but not my gmail account. It was working fine until the power failure. It keeps telling me, the user name or password for Gmail is incorrect. I have not changed anything. I don't know what is wrong. Can anyone help me? Thanks

I agree, unplug and replug your router, then reset your iPad by holding down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red power down slider, and wait til you see the silver apple. let it reboot and then try your connection.
Chances are rebooting the router will help. You may also need to talk to cox. They may need to reset something on their end.

  • I cannot send an email from my iPad?

I cannot send email from my iPad all of a sudden?  I can receive them though

I have this same issue.  Resetting does not affect the issue.  I have tried syncing it with itunes.  Turning the ipad off and restarting...
It says user name or password is incorrect.  Strange.  It has worked for over 6 months just fine.  I reentered the info and still get the same response.Anyone have this same issue and find a solution?

The fact that you can receive means you have a valid e mail address, and have established the connection to the incoming server, so all of that works.  Since the send does not work, that means your outgoing server is rejecting whatever settings you used formthe outgoing set up.  Try them again.
Google your particular isp, and ipad and many times you will find the exact settings needed for your isp.  Or tell us here, and soneone else may be on the same isp.  Some mail services need you to change a port, or have a unique name for the outgoing server.
    Kep trying.
