Email with different imap smtp servers

I am doing prep work for an Iphone.  Currently I am running an android and Mac OSX 10.7.4  On both my phone and laptop, I receive my emails using imap from gmail, and I send all my emails through verizon.  So my incomming mail server is "imap.gmail.com" and my outgoing mail server is "outgoing.verizon.net."   Will I be able to accomplish this same setup with my iPhone email?

Yes.
One thing, the server you are using to send the mail, is different than the "From" or "Reply-To" addresses. Using the Verizon server means you should always be able to send the mail, regardles of where you are. Some places (like WiFI providers at hotels, I have noticed) don't like you to send E-Mail from domain.com when they are at myhotel.com. Cuts down on people piggy backing off their network and sending SPAM.
Anyway, on your iPhone you can go into your settings and then Mail, Contacts, Calendar and scroll down and turn on Show CC field. You go back to Mail, you should then see a + sign in a new mail message (you may have to tap Show Details). From here you can specify your From and Reply To address.
But I'm curious, if you are sending from GMail, but wanting responses from VZ, Why not just use VZ to send the original E-Mail?
The best way to test this is to test with another E-Mail account. Start sending E-Mails in different FROM and Reply-To address and see how they show up on the recipient E-Mail. Click on Reply from the recipient E-Mail client and see what is automatically added to the TO field.

  • Can I setup multiple SMTP servers / emails with one IMAP servers on the iPh

All my email arrives at one place, on one IMAP server. However I have 2 email addresses, and need to use a different SMTP server for each one. How to setup this on the iPhone? This is what I considered so far:
    1. I don't see how to enter multiple addresses for the same account, and map each address to a SMTP server.
    2. If I create multiple accounts, I have to enter multiple IMAP server, and the iPhone doesn't let me enter the same IMAP server information for different accounts.
    3. I could create a second account with a dummy IMAP/POP server, and a real SMTP server. But then most likely if I respond to mails that arrive on my IMAP server (1st account), Mail will always use my 1st email address when responding. Instead I'd like it to automatically pick as From the To address of the mail I am responding to (as the desktop Mail.app does).
    Alex

If you have multiple SMTP servers available, you can select from one of the available SMTP servers for a particular account.
After you've entered the SMTP server for the first account when creating the 1st account and you've entered the SMTP server for a 2nd account when creating the 2nd account, you'll have both SMTP servers available to use with either or both accounts.

  • Email Sender's display name not displaying/resolving on internal emails with POP/IMAP clients

Here's the scenario. I have two 2013 test accounts setup in Outlook as POP/SMTP accounts. I have their name setup as initials in the outlook account (the "Your Name" field).  If I send an email (Through SMTP) to a 2013 Exchange(Outlook
Anywhere) client, their names resolve to their actual Display Name in the GAL which is correct.  Now if I send an email to another 2013 POP/IMAP user, their name shows what is setup in Outlook which is their initials which is not correct.
Now we are currently in the process of a 2007 to 2013 migration.  I do not see this behavior on the Exchange 2007 side with POP/IMAP clients.  If I run the same test setup with a 2007 mailbox as the recipient, the sender's name resolves to
their GAL display name and NOT the name configured in the Outlook Account settings.  It doesn't matter whether the sender is a 2007 or 2013 account.  As long as the recipient is on 2007 it works fine.
This is all tested using authenticated SMTP.  The only difference I can tell is that the 2007 servers resolve the name before delivering it to the inbox where the 2013 servers don't.
There aren't any GAL or Address Book related issues on the 2013 side.  Full exchange clients or OWA work correctly.

    Hi,
It seems to be related to the permission settings on the receive connector. For example, using a Receive Connector for Anonymous Relay. We can refer to this article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996395(v=exchg.141).aspx
And we can use the tool Dsacls to check the permissions:

  • Unrelated emails with different Subjects and Recipients grouping into conversations

    Hi all,
This problem appears well documented, and has been discussed here: https://discussions.apple.com/create-account.jspa
It's only a matter of time until someone in our company misses an email or sends the wrong thread to a customer.
Does anyone know if Apple have verified the issue and are working on it? Does anyone have a solution? By solution I don't mean a way around it like unselecting View>Organise By Conversation, I mean a fix.
If Apple cannot fix this we may need to stop using Mac Mail completely. We are using an IMAP Google account so have plenty of options.
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi all,
I believe I have found a workable way around this problem, that I haven't found as a solution anywhere else!
Select the email that has grouped various Subjects/Conversations etc into one thread, click View in the toolbar at the top, and select 'Hide related messages'. It removes all the incorrectly grouped emails for that conversation. I have checked to see if this has a knock on effect of hiding the emails elsewhere/their individual folders, and it doesn't. They are still present - hiding them from one conversation does not hide or delete them elsewhere.
Still irritating you have to do this each time Mac Mail groups a message, and this is still a bug which needs fixing.
Let me know if this works for you too.
    Cheers,
    Sam

  • Send email with different "from" address

I now use iCloud (was MobileMe.) When I send an email or reply to someone's email, I don't want them to see the me.com address. I want them to see my domain email name. Through the place I bought the domain, I have it set up to send all mail to my me.com address, so there's no server info, etc. It just forwards everything to my me.com address. So using the panel in system preferences to set up a new mail account doesn't help becuase it wants the outgoing mail server, etc.
In Outlook or other mail programs, I used to look for a setting that said "reply to" and put in whatever I wanted. Is there something simple like this in iCloud?
    Thanks.

Thanks - that sems to have worked.
I set up my business account in my BB, made it the default in my phone so that email always say they are coming from my business account, then went to the Web through T-mobile to set up the filter so that this account does not receive email. I haven't seen any dups yet on my phone.
I will let the tmobil folks know.
    Cheers

  • IPad 2 suddenly showing "no service" but seems to be working fine otherwise. Any need for concern? Hard close didn't help. Changing locations with different wi if servers didn't help.

iPad 2 suddenly showing "no service" but seems to be working fine otherwise. Any cause for concern? Time to get a new iPad?

It is not picking up the wifi - though it says it is connected . All other devices are connecting fine to the same network

  • Using BT smtp servers for a non-BT email account

    Hi,
My email hosting provider have some issues with being black listed and its preventing my emails from reaching a few clients/contacts. While the provider have requested the IP address be removed from the black list they have suggested i use my ISP servers (BT) for sending emails.
    Is this possible/allowed?

Hi Andy, I've been using Eudora for years to handle several email accounts from different POP hosts and my previous two ISPs (Pipex and TalkTalk) allowed me to send emails with these other email addresses through their SMTP servers. Since joining BT Internet I find that I can't do that anymore. In response to the online Help pages, I have verified those non-BT email addresses on the BT Yahoo Mail web page, but they still won't send. I saw some instructions elsewhere in this forum for configuring Outlook and Thunderbird (which is similar to Eudora) clients. The crunch seems to be that I need to insert my BT password into the outgoing server settings but Eudora has only one entry for a password in the account settings and it is used for receive and send (assuming you are using your "home" servers' the password for POP and SMTP servers is the same). As I said it worked OK with alternate email accounts before I changed to BT. It seems those other programs allow one to enter a different password in the SMTP settings and keep the original POP settings intact. TIme to dump my trusty Eudora, or is there a workaround? In passing, I noticed in another posting that the recommended servers were pop.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com instead of mail.btinternet.com for both send and receive?????
    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
I actually used to use Eudora 7.1 and also set it up to do what you specifically want. See this little help guide here :-
    http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2107hq.html
In truth, unless you are having problems with BTinternet mail, best to stick with mail.btinternet.com.
I had various filters set up to move emails into different folders, and used the "relay" feature as shown in the link above. It's a little tricky to grasp initially, but does work. Effecitively the "relay" account is the BTinternet verification account.

  • Use the IMAP/SMTP protocol to build email unhosted web app

    hi,
me and my group started to implement a unhosted Email web application with HTML5/JS. As i know, any browsers not allowed connection to the IMAP/SMTP server in HTML 5 application due to security constraint.
Is there any solution to overcome this issue. Or can we implement any add-on as intermediate server and connect to IMAP/SMTP Servers through that add-on.
    Thanks and regards.

  • Several Mail Accounts with the same smtp server

Let’s assume, you have several accounts but however, you need to login to the same smtp server with different credentials (once with [email protected] and once with [email protected] – authentication on smtp servers is used to prevent spam): This works smooth on every mailbin on your apple/pc.
Try to import your settings with itunes to iphone and everything crashes. Iphone is unable to distinguish accounts on imported smtp servers – you can’t set individual passwords this way.
Work around: Create the accounts manually on iphone.

    Ameya,
Have a look at your existing DAD configuration, it should be fairly obvious what you need to do to point at another instance.

  • Mail.app -- confused between SMTP servers?

BACKGROUND: I have used Terminal for over 10 years to access a Unix server where I get my mail using Pine / Alpine --simple text email and trouble-free wherever I am. Recently my university has been shutting down the Unix server and moving accounts to a so-called Exchange (I know, bad decision!). I'm told that soon there will be no Terminal access, no Pine. Long story short: I started adopting Mail.app. Now, it happens that when I'm home my home smtp server is one, and when I'm at the university it's another (and I assume it's like that wherever I go with my laptop--that's a nightmare; I'll miss Terminal/Pine). I also have a @me.com account running together with my university email in Mail.app. And @me has its own smtp server.
PROBLEM: Very often, when I get home, the home smtp server 'thinks' I'm trying to send university email with the 'me' smtp instead of the internet provider smtp. Also, often the internet provider's smtp rejects university emails because it appears to be from me.com. I keep getting a msg to select smtp servers for every email I send, no matter which account. Mail.app always pairs the wrong email address / smtp server. After about a dozen "select this server" attempts, the msg leaves the Outbox!
QUESTIONS: Is there a way for the smtp server to be selected automatically? I assume it should be like that (I did configure the list of smtp servers and email addresses correctly; so the confusion appers to be in a configuration file, I don't know. Also the connection doctor and the list of smtp servers appear to be correct). Is this a bug in Mail.app?
A more general question: Does this all (see Background, above) mean that I won't have access to IMAP accounts if, say, I'm at a cafe--unless I know which smtp server that cafe uses?? Does anybody know if new versions of Alpine/ReAlpine work in Lion? I haven't upgraded just because of that!

It's in Tiger, sort of, as a drop-down menu in the new message composition window -- requires a one-time setup then it's there for all time.
Click on "compose new message" button in Mail toolbar or type an "apple-n". In message header there is a small rectangular box with 3 horz lines & downward pointing triangle. Click on that box. Select "Customize..." then check the "Account" checkbox, and in the future you will have an "Account" drop-down menu in the header area of your new message composition windows that will select what account to apparently send from (which selects what smtp server to use). It uses whatever email address belongs to that account for the "From:" address, though -- probably not exactly what you want.

  • ML Mail, Exchange vs. IMAP/SMTP?

I'm setting up for a new mail service, the provider listed Exchange (MAPI) and IMAP+SMTP servers.
I didn't really want Exchange, what I wanted was IMAP with SSL.  However, Mail's auto config set me up with the Exchange service, via OWA.
Which setup is better (for mail only)? If IMAP+SMTP is better, how do I get Mail to configure that?
    Thanks.

We do not have a BB server at my company and connect our Berry's using Exchange 2003's OWA feature.
Works flawless and have not found any security holes.
Downside is, it does not always sync calendar items as well as having a BB server would.
If you are just looking for mail sync then OWA will work great.
Except for the gaping security hole where you're providing credentials to a 3rd party provider ...

  • AppleMail v7 send wrong authentication imap, smtp

    Hi all,
need help with Apple Mail v7.
I can not connect with an IMAP / SMTP Server (mdaemon). Because mail authentication sends wrong values.
The Mail server send allways "NO Authentication failed".
With wireshark i found this base64 coded user / passwort value (after decode):
    [email protected]
    [email protected]*[email protected]
    [email protected]*testpass
    We need only this:
    [email protected]*testpass
I can connect with thunderbird successfully.
here an example from RFC 4616
    S: * ACAP (SASL "CRAM-MD5") (STARTTLS)
       C: a001 STARTTLS
S: a001 OK "Begin TLS negotiation now"

       S: * ACAP (SASL "CRAM-MD5" "PLAIN")
       C: a002 AUTHENTICATE "PLAIN"

    Any help and idea ?

I dont get any error's on my iphone that the smtp password is wrong or the server is down etc. And on exchange i can see that the mail has been send.
This indicates the mail was successfully sent by the SMTP server. If a message cannot be sent for whatever the reason, it will remain in the Outbox mailbox usually with an error message provided. A message moved to the account's Sent mailbox indicates the message was successfully sent by the SMTP server.
A successfully sent message does not guarantee the message will be accepted by the recipient's incoming mail server. Usually when a message is not accepted by the recipient's incoming mail server, a return email error message from the server is usually provided - but not always. Not with the high level of spam being circulated by low-life spammers.
Ask a recipient that is not receiving your messages sent by the iPhone's Mail client to check with their email account provider. You should be able to provide the recipient the long message headers for a sent message that was not received by the recipient.

  • Can't send email with SMTP servers

Not sure if I have the right SMTP server but I'm using mail.1xbell.ca and have also tried smtp.bellaliant.net. I can receive fine but can't send. It just times out. Tried it on 3G and WIFI.
I'm using Aliant in Newfoundland, Canada for my email and the phone is with Telus. The tech dude at Aliant wouldn't tell be dick all because the phone is with another carrier even though my email is with Aliant.
Any suggestions in getting this fixed?

If the email account provider for the email account is not the internet service provider associated with the wi-fi network your iPhone is connected to at the time and the email account provider for the email account does not have an authenticated SMTP server, you won't be able to send with the account - unless you have access to the ISP's SMTP server being used for your internet connection at the time.
As already provided, most if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of the ISP's network or that isn't provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated.
A MobileMe account is my primary email account which has an authenticated SMTP server and I've never had a single problem sending with the account from my iPhone over the last 3 years regardless my internet connection at the time - various wi-fi networks with different associated ISPs or when connected to AT&T's cellular network.
Having an account with an authenticated SMTP server is the key.

  • My 3rd Generation iPod touch with iOS 5.1.1 is not able to download emails inside a label or folder in different email a/c imap or exchange??

    Hi,
I upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 and not I am not able to download emails withing a folder or label (gmail) for any a/c configured with imap or exchange.

Thank you for your reply. We did establish that the mail was in fact coming in but could not be seen in the actual MAC MAIL application. I just posted the following update:
It is also a problem with POP3, not just IMAP. This seems to be widespread. My MAC Mail was working fine until the 10.10.1 update. Geek Squad Agents spent almost 8 hours trying to figure this out and get me up and running again. They did EVERYTHING! And I do mean EVERYTHING (a shout out to them for going above and beyond with this!) Nothing worked. It seems that no changes were made to MAC MAIL in the upgrade and it is still the version used in Mavericks. It also seems that it is NOT compatible with the 10.10.1 upgrade and therefore the PLIST file becomes corrupt even with a re-build (we re-built mine 2 times). They recommended a complete reinstall of 10.10.1, but due to the holiday selling season I'm going to wait until JAN to take my computer in to Best Buy for this. I'm also hoping that Apple will send out an update fixing this issue before then. In the mean time, they have installed Mozilla Thunderbird (a free open source mail app) so that I can send and receive email via my computer!
Apple will need to fix this but until them I'm recommending anyone with this problem try a complete reinstall or use another email application on their computer.
