Email won't let me empty trash, then crashes

When I try to empty my email trash, it says it cannot, then it crashes.
Also, I frequently get a "slow script" error message.
Any ideas?
Please help.
Thank you

Thanks for letting us know how things are going.
It is recommended that you keep at least 15% of your hard drive space free to enable OS X to run smoothly.
I was about to suggest the sledgehammer approach of deleting a user account if nothing else worked. I'm glad you found another, less drastic, way.
You may continue to have problems from the after-effects of a too-full hard drive and may benefit from using the OS X Install disc again to repair the hard drive once you have deleted enough material to regain the proper amount of hard drive space. Then restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane.
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). Repair permissions on it.
Good going!

Aperture ate my picture files and they are not recoverable.  The guy at the Genius Bar told me to Trash the App, empty Trash, then go to Purchases and reinstall.  But Purchases says it is "Installed" so it does not let me download it again.  HELP!!!!

I typed Aperture into Spotlight and sure enough it did show up.
It looks like it is supposed to be in Apps.
    But it is not there.
So I clicked on the spotlight Aperture and it opened up the App!!!!
But I do not know where it is to move it!
    How can I find it?
While Aperture is running and you are seeing it in the Dock, ctrl-click (or right click) the Dock icon.
You will see a contextual menu. Click on "Options", then select "Show in Finder".
And check the "keep in Dock" mark, so you will not lose it from the Dock.

I cannot open the new email icon for 10.6.8 including the latest security update. My old "Stamp" icon email won't let me in either indicating that the new OS version doesn't work. Please help. I have spend over 4 hours installing and reinstalling updates, etc. and I don't know where to go from here.....

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4424?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Fellow user Grant Bennet-Alder offers this solution:
Some users have reported this problem if the Mail Application has been moved out of the top-level /Applications folder, or duplicated in another location.
When the Security Update is done, the old version of Mail is disabled.
    The solution has been to:
    1) make certain Mail is in the /Applications folder
    2) There is no other copy anywhere else.
    3) Once steps 1 and 2 have been done, Manually download and re-apply the Security Update (2012-004) by hand.
    Security Update 2012-004 (Snow Leopard)
If the Mail.app has been LOST, it can be re-installed by applying the 10.6.8 version 1.1 combo update. But this update is quite large and it is usually not necessary:

Quick reading seams to be related to Time Machine, do you use it? Is your backup disk the same of your working disk?
    Good luck.

  • IPhoto won't quit! Empty trash with 8000 +....

Cleaned up iPhoto, deleting, now have 8000+ images in iPhoto trash. Click iPhoto Trash>Empty Trash, and separate upper right "Empty Trash" button... neither one will dump all these photos.... And the program freezes with swirling after the box shows it is emptying iPhoto trash.... NOT. Please help, after many tries this is becoming ugly.

    Hello Old Toad:
Thank you for your suggestion. I've seen it in other discussions.
I've been using iPhoto for many years. I've been using a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 2007 era iMac the whole time. I'm now using iPhoto v8.1.2.
My iPhoto library is now quite large with about 40,000 photos and about 175 G in total size. I have put a lot of time into organizing the photos. Everything is religiously backed up.
Over the past year or so the performance of iPhoto in terms of speed has been slowly declining. It takes a long time to open, but the most cumbersome is the spinning beach ball when I "commit" to enhancements to a photo I've made (contrast, saturation, sharpness etc). Recently that beach ball could actually take 3-5 minutes. I find this intolerable.
So I started researching this to see if others have the problem. As best I can make out after a few hours of research is that my library is too large and my computer too old. I don't want to replace my computer becuase of iPhoto so I started researching the idea of splitting my library into smaller libraries.
I found several 3rd party programs (iPhoto Buddy, iPhoto Library Manager) that made it seem they may be able to help me easily split my library into several libraries. Unfortunately neither actually does this but instead tells you how you need to do that manually.
The methods to split your library manually they suggest are horrendously tedious for a 40,000 photo library with over 1,000 carefully constructed Events.
And this brings me to where I stand today. I copy my entire library to an external hard drive, open the copied library and what I WANT to do is prune it to say 1/10 of the size (say two years of my photos). (Realize I'll have to do this process of copying my entire library 10 times, and pruning each time.)
But then I find out that iPhoto totally chokes when you try to trash more than "80-100" photos at a time! Morever, I come to find out that emptying the trash of even 80 photos takes 3-5 minutes!
Although I appreciate the help and advice, perhaps you can understand my frustration with Apple. I'm literally an indentured servant to iPhoto if I want to preserve all the work I've done on my library. I'd switch to another program if it would preserve all my events but I can not find one that does.
    1. The performance of their software declines with no warning to the point where it can't be used unless you're unemployed and have nothing else to do.
    2. You look for a fix and find you have to split your library.
    3. When you try to split your library you find it will takes days and days of tedious work to complete.
So that is my story. That is why I'm so angry with Apple.
Have I missed anything or am I doomed to this dreary work?
Thank you for any help and guidance you can provide.

  • Emailing Excel sheets-can't empty trash

I notice anytime I send someone an Excel spreadsheet & then dump that excel into trash I can't empty trash, why is this? I close down all excel worksheets. I even trash the sent mail that had the excel attachment. Why does it think there's still an open Excel running? Is there a simpler solution then having to use Mac Janitor or Onyx everytime I do this?

Sometimes the Mail application will hold up the process. I can't explain why, but next time try quiting Mail when you have that problem. Then you should be able to empty the trash.

  • Emptying Trash, Locum crash

I'm on 10.9.2, emptying the trash is crashing most of the time, the program Locum takes 100% procs and does nothing.
When are you going to fix this issue?
I used "rm -rf .Trash" and it works all the time in an instant, if a file is in the trash it shouldn't be in use, or am I missing something?

Locum is a Finder helper application that unlinks files not owned by the user emptying the trash. There may be a permissions problem with the /.Trashes folder or your /Users/<username>/.Trash folder. I suspect the Locum executable is damaged.

  • Do I get better results/ keeping the battery's life longer by charging only when it comes to 5-10% or should I let it empty and then charge it? Someone told me also to turn it off while I charge it... So help what is the best way to keep long life battery

I got the new iPad on June 2012 and I wish to keep the long life of the battery as much as I can. I always and only use the cable that comes with the product and never charge it through computer.
    Should I:
    1) wait till baterry is completely empty, pratectly dead and then charge it?
    2) charge it when it reach 5%-10%.
    3) turn off the iPad when I charge the battery?
    Thank you apple support :)

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • How can I work around 1316 error that won't let me uninstall and then reinstall Elements 12

Elements 12 stopped working and the shortcut no longer finds the executable file. There does not appear to be a repair function on the installation CD. As a result, I have tried unsuccessfully to uninstall the program using Windows 7 64 bit uninstaller, Iobit Uninstaller, and Revo Pro Uninstaller.  In each instance, I get the error "Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file c:\Windows\Adobe\Installer\Adobe Photoshop Elements 12.msi." As a test,  I ran Iobit Uninstaller 3 as an administrator, but that was not successful either. Each time, the program rolls back when it detects the 1316 error. I can neither install or uninstall Photoshop Elements at this time.
How can I uninstall the program completely and then reinstall it either from my Elements 12 installation CD or from the same files on my hard drive?

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
It then asks for an alternate path to find "iTunes.msi"
with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?
