Emailed PDFs automatically opening

I've got a problem where, if I email PDFs to my gmail account and open them in mail on my iPad, it's automatically opening some of them (not all) in the message body. This is fantastically annoying, as I then don't get the option to open them in a separate window and send to Dropbox/Evernote/etc. The only 'reason' I can see why this is happening with some but not all is that it's size-related (my latest two troublesome PDFs are both under 130kb). Can't find any settings that will let me fix this. I presume I'm missing something simple so if someone is able to enlighten me, I'll be really grateful!

Tap and hold the image of those that open and you get the same options.

  • Downloaded PDFs automatically open in Acrobat Readr. How switch to Preview?

    I downloaded Acrobat Reader awhile ago, and since then downloaded PDFs from Firefox have opened in Adobe. I'd like them to automatically open in Preview. If I "Get Info" on a PDF, it still says that it will open in Preview. Do you know what I should do?

    One thing you can check: go to the Firefox preferences and click on the Applications tab. Look in that list to see if there's an entry for PDF files. If there is and it's set to Acrobat Reader, click on the action and select Preview.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I prevent my emails from automatically opening

    When I open email, it automatically has the emails open when I click on them. How can I just select certain ones without it opening and delete them?

    I care that it automatically opens.  I find it really annoying that whatever message is at the top of my inbox, (or under my cursor) mail opens it, whether I have read it or not.  If I want to keep track of messages I have opened and read, I have to select and mark that message as unread every time I open mail, if I don't want to read it at that time.  I can't find a fix and it drives me nuts.

  • I use Go Daddy web based email....when I try to Compose a new email firefox automatically opens the upload page as if I am going to add a attachment. I have to close the pop up to write an email.....each time! Help?

    open Firefox
    open web based email
    choose compose
    email/compose window opens
    followed immediately by upload file window as a pop up
    I can close it and continue with email but this is not very convenient.

    Sorry I have no solution but this happened to me after Hulu told me to clear my browser cache (history) to be able to watch a video that stopped abruptly (Hulu lied; you rarely need to clear the cache.)
    You can back up your browser history to keep this from being a problem in the future. • Can no longer open email PDF attachment in iBooks

    Just discovered can no longer open on iPad mini any email attachment PDF file in iBooks.  Cannot tap attachment and select open in iBooks. PDF attachment opens itself automatically on the body of the email. Is this a PDF problem or iPad problem or iBooks problem.

    It's not a problem with either app. Just hold down on the open PDF to bring up the "open in" window. If hold down on the open PDF and select "Quick Look" , that will give you the full screen file and you will see the share icon in the upper right corner.

  • PDF attachments automatically opening ???

    This just started, but when I attach a PDF file to my email message it is now opening in its entirety in the message body. Some of these PDF files are large and I don't want them to automatically open when I attach them. Why did this start and how do I stop it??
    Note: If I attach a "Pages" file, it does not do this. I just get the icon showing the attachment is there. How do I do that (again) with PDF files?? I have no idea whey they just started opening on their own.

    In addition to the good answers others have provided, here's a last ditch thing you can try if you absolutely do not want an attachment to "open" in the body of your email message. You can either try placing it in a folder and then attaching the folder to the email message or you can try compressing it into a zip archive and then attaching that to the message. These are extra steps and the results may vary depending on your recipient's email program, as has been pointed out, but this may be helpful to you.

  • Why will PDF not open from email?

    I recently modified my Adobe Reader 9.1 (with instructions from the bank) to be able to electronically sign documents.
    Since then I can not open any PDF documents from email.  I went back and reversed the changes I made. I uninstalled Adobe and reinstalled it. No luck.
    I have to save the documents and open them from Windows Explorer.
    Any Ideas?

    A fast workaround for PDF problem (See my original post)
    In Firefox:
    Open Tools > Options > Under Main tab click Save files to > click Browse
    Scroll up or down to find where you want it to go (I put mine under Documents because it's the easiest to find).
    Click New folder and label it something you will quickly recognize.
    Now when you click on a PDF attachment it will automatically be sent to that file and you can double click or open
    it in Adobe Reader
               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    (Note) If I use Internet Explorer (I have not used IE in years) I can open PDF's from Hotmail with out a problem.
    I like Firefox better so I will continue to use the quick workaround until somebody finds a fix.
    If you use IE, here are the instructions for saving PDF files.
    Click
    to open Windows Mail.
    Open a message that contains an attachment by double-clicking it
    in the message list.
    In the message window, click the File menu,
    and then click Save Attachments.
    Select the folder where you want to save the attachments.
    By default,
    Windows Mail saves attachments in your
    Documents folder. If you want to save the attachments to a different folder,
    click Browse, and then select a folder.
    Select the attachments that you want to save, and then click Save.
  • Automatic opening of PDF by Reader
    How do I proceed if I don't want Adobe Reader (but another application) to automatically open all PDF documents?
    You can right click on any PDF document and click on the "Open With > Chose Program" option. In the dialog that appears, select the application that you want to associate with opening the PDFs and ensure to check the checkbox at the bottom of the dialog that states something like "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". Clicking on OK would change the PDF ownership to the new applciation.
  • How Can I Prevent Emailed PDF (created in Acrobat)From Opening in Preview?
    When I email my PDF page, if it is opened in another default viewer ('Preview', etc..) it opens up at the wrong size, (it is designed to open full screen and does not in 'Preview"), and the hot links do not work and are cold.  Is this due to people having older operating systems and/or old versions of applications? or something else?
    Can I somehow treat the pdf on my end before I email it in order to ensure that the pdf is opened in Acrobat and reads and performs correctly?
    I know I can include a note in the body copy of the email asking that it be opened in Acrobat, but I wish to 'take out the moving parts', so to speak, because one cannot always count on people to cooperate; (we all know how easy it is to just hit the  'Delete' button.).
    Please someone tell me there is a way around this and a procedure that will ensure that a pdf open up as an acrobat document by default (help!).
    Thanks!
    You really can't prevent it opening in Preview. There was a post recently (in the forms area I think) about writing some information to provide information in Preview as I recall. You should indicate in your e-mail that the PDF should be opened in Acrobat or Reader and that the use of Preview may create an unacceptable presentation.
  • Automatically open new pdf in acrobat 8
    Hello all,
    I have a user who was recently upgraded from Acrobat v7 to v8.0.
    She reports that before the upgrade whenever she would save a document created in another program (ie. Page Maker or Photo Shop) as a .pdf file the newely created .pdf would automatically open in Acrobat for her. She reports that there was also an Acrobat 7 icon in her system tray.
    After the upgrade, newly created .pdf documents to not automatically open, they must be opened manually and there is no Acrobat in the system tray.
    Can anyone please tell me how I can re-enable this feature?
    Thanks in advance!
    -joe
    Thanks for the reply.
    I actually was not talking about the quick launch links on the left of the taskbar, but rather the system tray icons on the right near the clock. The user in question reports that she previously had an Acrobat icon there whenever Acrobat was running. Having only seen her system after the upgrade though, I cannot verify this.
    As far as using the Adobe PDF printer, there was no mention of this when the user was describing the previous functionality that we are trying to resture but I will look into that. I am currently awaiting a convienent time to access her system and attempt to make those changes.
    I will update this with whether or not that solves the problem.
    Thanks again!
    -joe
