Emailed photos very pixelated/grainy

I have always been able to download emailed photos into Iphoto without issue.  Last week, everything I downloaded was very pixelated/grainy.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Any advice?

Actually you can send any size file you want up to the size your ISP and or email provider allows to be attached/sent with an email.
There is a difference between what one can do, what one should do, and what is good manners to do.

or just google e-mail and netiquette.
Etiquette Shmediquette if I want to send someone an image of good size for whatever reason, like they may want to print the image, I will do that.
This may not pertain to why the OP is sending larger images then the recipient may need. I don't know that. But just because someone says I should send smaller images because of their opinion about email eitquette doesn't make it mandatory. Which was my point.
No need to google anything. I don't send emails with attachments for no reason to anyone.
It an ISP or mail provider doesn't want you to send larger files then they will limit the size of the file attachment and reject it based on that. As they already do. Most have an email file size limit of 10MB.
This may of been a issue back in the days of slow dialup and low Boardband speeds but not today.
Thanks.

From photo I selected 3 photos to send via email. I choose the upload key and choose to send by email. Typing text on the email is very slow. This is solved by saving the email as a draft and opening the email again from mail.
Can you amend he system to allow emails to be sent from photo as previously.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off"

  • When I export a photo from lightroom, the image is very pixelated.

When I export a photo from lightroom, the image is very pixelated. This pixelization occurs irrespective of whether I make adjustments in Lightroom.  It seems that just placeing the photo into he develope modual  without doing anything to it taints the image in such a manner that when it is exported from the develope modual the expot comes out pixelated.

    Brett,
The photo i was a panorama knitted in Photoshop from four photos which were approx 3.3 MB each. The knitted pic came out to be 1.10MB. The panorama pic I was trying to refine in Lightroom and export came out to be 70.9 KB and extremly pixilated. Whether I altered it  in Lightroom  or not didn't matter.
I can't imagine that bringing up the photo in the Develop modual would result in pixilization when it was exported regardless of whether it was altered or not altered.!!
Attached is  a copy of the Photoshop saved and Lightroom exported photos before and after. I appreciate your help and interest. The top pic 1.10MB is what was saved on Photoshop. The bottom pic 70.9KB is the unaltered pic exported out of the Develop modual exhiiting the pixelization.

all end up low res and pixelated
    any help please !?!

recommended workflow to make a dvd.  Export a selfcontained qt with current settings from fcp (that's file:  export:  quicktime movie, NOT quicktime conversion.  Bring that file into Compressor and apply the approriate dvd preset.  If you're scaling material (for example, if your sequence is HD), turn on frame controls and set resizing filter to best.  Bring the resulting m2v and ac3 files into dvdsp.  If you still have the problem, you can add compression markers to your sequence in fcp for the problematic section before you export from fcp.

  • How to email photos to your mobile me account from a computer eye-fi card

For use with Eye-Fi SD Camera Cards! Set up your eye-fi account first and check it by uploading a photo or two to see that is working. Set your preferences according to your card capabilities. Ie. Upload to computer via folder or iphoto. Upload to photo sharing service. We'll upload to Mobile Me's Gallery via email. If you want the albums to be seen by the public make sure you have selected this public option according to eye-fi/Mobile me settings/instructions etc.
To try and follow the directions given by mobile me's help menu under the heading: Adding photos via email or mobile phone to your Gallery, is in error. It took a couple of days to resolve issues with the directions because they tell you to look for buttons with text on them which don't exist. Some of the directions are copied here with corrections.
First, in iPhoto, make a Mobile Me Gallery Album. You can do this by making a folder under the File Menu of iPhoto, clicking on it to select the album, and then under the share menu in iPhoto click on Mobile Me. We will only sync once to create the Mobile Me Gallery folder for Eye-Fi to auto-upload Eye-Fi photos via the Eye-Fi Manager/or email. This means iphoto will Sync and update itself according to the contents on Mobile Me Gallery (I set my iPhoto's RSS tab to Sync every hour).
If you select your chosen upload Mobile Me Album folder in iPhoto and click on Mobile Me under the Share Menu to sync it again it will make a duplicate album with the same name which could lead to confusion about which folder we are setting up to sync with. All we need here is to create an Album in Gallery and sync it once so that it adds the Album to the Mobile Me Gallery's drop down menu on iPhoto. You can edit the contents of later if need be by adding or deleting photos, dragging photo in/out etc. You can delete this initial album in your Album's drop down menu, (Not the Mobile Me Gallery Drop Down Menu) after the first sync because smart albums etc. will not sync except manually.
Once the Mobile Me Gallery Folder is created you can use Safari or iPhoto to manage it. Go to your Gallery web address via Safari or Firefox etc.: Your Mobile Me Gallery site should be something like: http:// gallery.me.com/YourMemberName. Once logged in, select the Sunflower icon in the upper left area of the Safari/browser window to load your Mobile Me Gallery and leave it on that page. We'll be back to it later.
In iPhoto, go to the Mobile Me Gallery drop down window (left pane), single click the photo album to which you want to email photos to. If you want to change the name, click again on the name and change it to something like "Uploads" and do not remove it, delete it, rename it, or otherwise render iPhoto and/or Mail and/or Eye-Fi unable to find or sync to it.
In Safari, choose Safari Menu, Preferences then the RSS tab. I have mine set to "default RSS reader is Mail" and I selected Check for Updates every 30 minutes.
'"Click the “Send to Album” button above the photo album, and then follow the onscreen instructions."'<-- This is from the Mobile Me help menu and I'm assuming they are talking about your web browser, Safari etc. So go to your web browser's display of your Mobile Me Gallery.
Corrections: THERE ARE NO 'Send to Album" BUTTONS! In Safari, in the Mobile Me Gallery window, inside the black band across the upper part of the window, in the center of that black band is a very small grey rectangle with what looks like switches. To the left of it is a rectangle with an Up Arrow. If this Up Arrow is greyed out it means you have not set it to upload to an email address which we'll do now. Click on the rectangle icon that looks like switches beside the up arrow icon. This will display a settings window when you click on it. Click on it now.
In this new settings window, Under Album Name: under Allow: click the square box beside: "Adding of photos via email or iPhone"
Further down the list, under "Show", click the check box beside: "Email address for uploading photos". You will need to find this email address and it will need to be displayed for that purpose. You may have to set this check box a couple of times if you've had problems like I've had with it being turned off again. It may take some time for the servers or whatever to update.
Under "Advanced" click on the program you'd like it to sync with. It says "Syncs with" beside this check box Ie. Select iPhoto or (Aperture if you have it). Then click publish. When you check the up arrow icon it should no longer be greyed out.
Mobile Me's Help directions refer to a "Send to Album" button. There is no "Send to Album" text on any button as given in the Mobile Me Help Menu. There is a small square with an Up -Arrow inside the box. I guess this is suppose to mean "Send to Album"? In iPhoto you can also drag the photo from somewhere in your collection, desktop or whatever into this Mobile Me Gallery upload folder in iPhoto and sync from there. For now, let's use Safari or your browser and login to Mobile Me and access your gallery that way.
If you are using Eye-Fi you will need to setup Mail to handle the process of forwarding photos from Eye-Fi's server to this new email address (I'll give you info on how to find it in a sec). This email address will upload photos sent to you by Eye-Fi's server/manager which you will instruct Mail to forward the message (attached photos and all) directly to your selected Mobile Me Gallery Album (via the new email address) and thereafter auto sync with iPhoto. (it also uploads the eye-fi logo photo in each email... sorry about that).
If you are using a phone you will need to record this email address. To find the email address you need to upload a test photo now. In your browser window click on that up arrow icon in the black band on your screen. This is the upload window. Give it a few seconds to load and click on the choose button or drag a photo onto it. Let it complete the upload.
Go back to that small switch like grey box in Safari (or your browser) mentioned earlier. It once did not contain an email address but now it does! Once it has accepted the photo upload there will be an email address for this folder near the middle of the window...(this is why you should not alter this folder, delete it, re-add it later etc. because it could invalidate the email address (I'm assuming.) Hold down the Control key on our keyboard and mouse click once on this email address which will copy the email address to the clipboard which we'll need later to paste into Mail once we set up new mail rules.
In the left pane in iPhoto is the Mobile Me Gallery drop down window. In there is the sync folder you setup. There will be an icon of radiating radio waves to the right of each folder item in your Mobile Me Gallery. If you want to sync any folder at any time just click on its radio wave. The radio wave icon will become a rotating wheel, showing that the album is being synced.
OK. I'm going to set preferences for a new rule in mail. When it receives an email with a photo from Eye-Fi's website Manager, we will tell Mail to mark the email as read, turn its background green, forward the email with photo attached to the email address given by the little grey settings icon and then run an applescript to verbally say the photo was uploaded.
Open Mail. Under the Mail Menu select "Preferences". This opens a window. Select "Rules" on the far right end of this window. Click on Add Rule. Make a name for this rule in the appropriate box. Something like Eye-Fi upload will do. You can name it anything you want.
When you setup Eye-Fi you will have chosen an email address. We need to have Mail determine the account we will forward the photo from and the email address for our Mobile Me Gallery upload folder.
Mail Rule #1. To enter the first rule click on the + button beneath the name of your rule. This adds a rule. In the leftmost dropdown window beside the - and + signs, choose From. The next window to the right: select "contains" and in the right most window enter [email protected]
Rule #2. Click on the + button for the next rule. From left to right, in each drop down window, first select "Subject", then "contains" then enter "Complete camera upload" (minus the quotes). Spell "Complete camera upload" not "complete camera upload" because these are two different things.
Rule #3. Following the same sequence as in rule #2, select "To" then "contains" then enter the email address you set up with the eye-fi manager website.
Below the rules is this section where it says "Perform the following actions." We need to instruct Mail what to do.
Following the sequence of drop down menus from left to right select: "Set Color" (spelt wrong. should be colour), select of background, select the colour you want. I chose green.
Next click on plus to add another rule
Click on the leftmost drop down window and select "Forward Message". A new drop down window to the right of it will say "to". Enter the email address you got from the window in your safari browser that is on the Mobile Me website in that switch like square, the settings window, (where you got the email address from). You can do this by clicking once in the window and then pressing the apple key and the "v" key at the same time. This will copy the address we pasted into the clipboard earlier, and it will paste the email address into this rule. This is where the photos will be directed via mail to upload onto our Mobile Me Gallery upload folder.
On My computer when I pasted the email address into this box it turned red. But it still worked. No idea why it is red.
Click on + again to add another rule. This time select "Mark as Read". Why not? Saves us having to do it.
Click on + again to add a third rule. This time select "Run AppleScript" and click the choose button to select where the following applescript is saved and the name of the script. Pause here for a moment while we make the applescript and save it in documents folder or wherever you want. Just remember where you put it.
Run the AppleScript editor in the AppleScript folder in the Applications folder in the Finder window.
Copy this script into the main window, press compile to check for errors and then save it as a script file. The default should be script file anyways so you may not have to choose it. Just don't select app or some other format. We need the script format to run it from Mail.
say "Hello Dave, This is Hal. Your photo has finished uploading."
say "doh doh deh deh doh dah dah dah dah dah dah" using "Bad News"
    say ((current date) as string)
You can change the name and what you want the computer to speak in the first line inside the quotes. Keep the Quotation Marks though!
When Mail runs it will speak this message and the date/time.
    Enjoy!
How it works. Eye-Fi manager can be set to select an email address to forward notifications of when it starts and stops uploading. You must do this for this process to work. We tell Mail that when it receives a message from Eye-Fi stating the upload is complete, that it should then forward the message with attached photos to the Mobile Me Gallery upload folder and carry out the Mail rules we created. The photos are then placed in the Mobile Me Gallery and can be synced with iPhoto so you don't have to set Eye-Fi to upload to Mobile Me. Now you can set Eye-Fi to upload to another photo sharing website if you want to (there's about 20 of them now). I also tell Eye-Fi to save a copy in an Eye-Fi folder in my pictures folder as an extra precaution just incase something goes wrong with the email system. There is a drop down window that appears in the upper right side of the screen when the Eye-Fi manager uploads the photo. If you miss seeing it, don't worry. Hal will let you know via email and voice!
Depending on the Eye-Fi card you bought, it may or may not have some features. I have the Eye-Fi home card. You can check their website for the capabilities of the card you have.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Check out this Apple document: MobileMe: Setting up MobileMe email on your Mac.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • I suddenly cannot email photos from iphoto. I get a box that says "server does not recognize username or password". I now have to use regular email and cannot re-size my photos.

Suddenly I can no longer email photos directly via iphoto mail.  The box comes up that says "server does not recognize username or password".  I used to be able to re-size my photos before sending so that they jpeg or pixels were larger for publishing in newspapers or magazines, but I can no longer do that.  Apple tech support told me to change my iphoto "preferences" to using regular email to send.  But that does not allow me to re-size.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I don't know if there was an update that caused this or what?  Please help.

The box comes up that says "server does not recognize username or password".
That error message usually will pop up, when there is a conflict between the "From" setting for the mail account you are sending from and the selected outgoing mail server. Probably the outgoing Mail server is receiving a user name and password it does not understand. When the mail returns unsent, do you see the "Try again" panel with the option to select a different outgoing mail server?
If you do not see this panel, change the Mail "Preferences > General" to "If Outgoing server is unavailable: Show a list of alternate servers". This way, you will know, which server Mail is trying to send from.
Have you tried to set "From"  pop-up menu to one of your other email addresses?  If that works, change your settings in Mail to always send from this address. You can set this option in the Mail "Preferences > Composing: Send New Messages from". I have my "Send New Messages from" set to "iCloud". That is working best for me with iPhoto.

  • Can't save emailed photos to iPhoto

The computer is an iBook G3, 900 MHz, 40 GB hard drive running OS X v.10.4.11 with Mail 2 and iPhoto 2. This is a computer which I am trying to set up for a friend.
I recently posted a similar question in the iPhoto forum thinking the problem might be with version of iPhoto that originally shipped with the iBook, but to date have received no replies. I am now wondering if it's a Mail problem rather than an iPhoto problem.
If the computer receives an emailed photo, I get the "Save" button and if I click on it, I also get the "Add to iPhoto" option. However, if I select the "Add to iPhoto" option, nothing happens. The photo is not added to the iPhoto library.
There is also an external 120 GB FireWire external drive associated with this computer. My niece did the original installation on the boot drive, which I believe was just an erase and install from a retail Tiger disc. I had to restore the iLife applications from the Jaguar system disc. I then came across this KB article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2475
Thinking that was the problem, I took the external disk and did a fresh installation starting from the Jaguar system discs and then upgrading to Tiger and updating all the software. The external drive now has a full installation on it including OS 9.
Same thing--I cannot simply save a photo to iPhoto. I also noticed that if I go to Mail>Preferences>Fonts and Colors and set preferences for larger fonts, this also does not work. However, I am able to put the magnifier in the Mail tool bar and this does work to enlarge text. This is true for both the internal and external hard drive.
My friend is new to Macs and new to computers, so I would like to make Mail and iPhoto as simple as possible for him to use.
We're using a GMail IMAP account if that has any bearing.
    Thanks in advance!

I don't believe so--it's a fresh installation of the OS on both hard drives. I downloaded iStatPro and Maintidget on both drives and SMART Reporter and Smart Utility on the built in drive as well, but I wouldn't expect any of these to have anything to do with how mail works.
It's possible I somehow made some sort of an error when I set up Mail-- I followed the GMail instructions. Not sure where to look for something like this.
To be more specific about what I do, I click on the gray triangle to the right of "Save", and I get a drop down menu with the photos and the option of "Save to iPhoto" at the bottom of the list. I go down and click on the "Save to iPhoto" and nothing happens.
I know the iBook G3 is doing this because I was trying to show my friend how to add emailed photos to his iPhoto library and it just doesn't work.
I also have a different iBook G4 running Tiger, and with both iPhoto 6 and iPhoto 8, I can add emailed photos to iPhoto in this way.
I'm wondering if I need to find my friend a newer version of iPhoto--maybe iPhoto 5. I'm wondering if iPhoto 2 is the problem--maybe this feature doesn't work on it. That's why I tried my question on the iPhoto forum first, but so far no response, and also no response to some other questions about iPhoto 2.
Yes, I did repair permissions on both drives until there was nothing left to repair.
Thanks for the response--I am very puzzled by this.

  • How can I stop high res photos being pixellated in an In Design Brochure?

    Hi,
I'm trying to create an In Design Brochure but am finding that many of the photos are pixellated despite being of high res 300 dpi.  Is it better to use photos with a higher or lower resolution that I want to be for example a sixth of A4 on a page?  I can't understand why, as these photos look fine when I've used them in other non Adobe publications previously.  Your help would be most useful.  Should I post this in Photoshop forum?  Thank you

If you select a bunch of layers in Photoshop, you can right click and make them into a Smart Object.  It differs from using a Group, because the original is always kept in memory, so if you were to make it very very small, and then make it big again, you would not lose quality.  You can do the same thing with a single layer for the same reason.
To edit a SO, double click it, and it will open in another Photoshop window.  Make your changes, save them, and the original will be updated.
Photoshop CC 14.2 has added ‘linked SOs’ which are close to a holy grail in Photoshop, because a linked SO can be used in multiple image documents, and they will all update (when next opened) if the master SO is edited.  That is a major new feature and much appreciated.
Adobe Dynamic Links are similar to the right click you used in InDesign.  Items in a Premiere Pro timeline can be very easily edited in their original, or relevant Adobe application, directly from the PremPro timeline.  This would be Photoshop, Audition, After Effects, Encore…  It’s powerful stuff, and a huge time saver.

  • Emailing Photos in Iphoto '11 (emails prepopulating)

how do I delete an email that is incorrect in the iphoto email application? I sent a picture to the wrong email by accident and now that email address keeps popping up when i try and type in the correct email because the two emails are very similar. How do I delete it? I check my address book application and i only have the correct email listed.

What type of computer do the people having problems have?
One guy has a Mac  --  if that the only person who has had a problem? Has he had the problem multiple times or only once? What e-mail client does he use?
on a given e-mail have you ever had some able to open the photo and others not?
To upgrade to 9.2.3 if you have an older Mac and got software restore disks with it use software update - it you have a newer Mac and get your software from the App store log into to the App store using the Apple ID you registered the computer with and look under purchased apps for updates - download and install from there
    and again
IMHO the best solution is to quity using iPhoto to email photos and use Apple mail - set it as teh iPhoto e-mail client in the iPhoto preferences

  • IPhoto 5 has better quality that iPhoto 6 when emailing photos?

How can I set up iPhoto 6 to use the same image quality as iPhoto 5 when emailing photos?
I have two iMacs, side by side, one is G5 with iPhoto 5, and another is Intel with iPhoto 6. When I use iPhoto 5 to email a photo, medium quality 640x480, it looks beautiful. It looks like a perfect replica of a high-res photo, just smaller, but very clear. But when I do the same with iPhoto 6, again medium quality, the photo looks terrible, the image is very poor, it is jagged around people's faces with apparent artifacts of higher jpeg compression -- whereas none of these artifacts are present when emailing from iPhoto 5.
The problem with iPhoto6 seems to be that it uses a higher jpg compression thus lowering the photo quality.
To illustrate, here is the photo emailed from iPhoto5:
    http://www.cinemaclock.com/iPhoto5.jpg (100kB)
and here is the SAME photo emailed the same way from iPhoto 6:
    http://www.cinemaclock.com/iPhoto6.jpg (36kB)
Interesting is that when I click to email from iPhoto6 it estimates the photo size to 122kB, the same estimation as in iPhoto5, but then iPhoto6 compresses it down to 36kB.
Question: How can I set up iPhoto 6 to email the same photo quality as iPhoto 5?
    iMac G5 + iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   iPhoto 5 vs. 6

I have the SAME problem!! Apple, please help how to correct the poor image quality?

  • "Large" email photo attachments too small

For no apparent reason my email photo attachments are now too small. "Actual size" will render a 4Mb jpeg true to size. However, Large, Medium and Small give a 10 Kb image. This was never the case until just recently. I've just realized that the screen grab below is also very small.  Cheers, jp

My apologies - I have discovered that the issue is not apple related but caused by a new RAW converter I am using. Cheers, jp

  • Exported files appear very pixelated

    Hi,
Today I tried exporting some photos from iPhoto using both the File > Export command as well as using the "Mail" toolbar button to export photos to Apple Mail. I set the export option to use the highest quality JPG but to reduce the file size to a "medium" setting.
The resulting file, for every photo that I exported, was very pixelated and the overall quality looked very poor. Even with the photo zoomed at 100%, I could easily see pixels.
I tried doing a similar photo size reduction in Photoshop and the final files look great. I was hoping to use iPhoto for quick and easy exports when I want to reduce the file size (such as for e-mail) but am not having luck with the pixelation.
    Any advice?

    Terence:
If your pixel count was the same as Neil's, or very close due to the different aspect ratio, the the dpi value is of no consequent. It only means that if printed at that value, your print would be 2.5 times smaller than Neil's.
I exported a 2625 x 1969 pixel image with the max quality and medium size. Upon opening in Photoshop it read 640 x 480 but with a dpi of 656.25 dpi. The print size was 0.975 x 0.731 inches. The total pixels were the same as yours. I then exported a 1600 x 1200 file at medium and got a 180 dpi reading in PS. Same 640 x 480 pixels. Don't know why PS handles them differently.
    Neil:
Have you, in the past, been able to export the medium size and have it acceptable? Is this just since iPhoto 08? Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. See if that will help.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. • Photoshop still photos look extremely grainy in iMovie '08

I'm making a photo slideshow DVD for a wedding using iMovie '08. The photographer asked me to include his photos he made with Photoshop. Some of the photos have effects on them. Other photos still look grainy even though they don't seem to have any effects on them. I promise I'm not being picky. You can barely see their faces on some of the photos. All of them look outright crappy. In iPhoto they look great. They range from 3 MB to 7 MB and have a size of 3522 × 2348.
I exported the project as a large movie to see if they looked better once they were exported (instead of just in the viewer), but they look the same.
    Any ideas?

To expand on QTKirk's thoughts... Your large images are scaled to a maximum HD project height of 1080 with corresponding width to maintain your original aspect ratio. These scaled images are then stored in the project as individual frames in a movie file named "Still Images" which you can check if you open the project package. So it does not matter whether you pre-scale your photos externally. In addition, anything burned to DVD, as QTKirk said, is again re-scaled to 640x480 standard or 853x480 widescreen (NTSC square pixels) and encoded as a 720x480 data matrix with the appropriate aspect flag set for burning.
In any case, was thrown by your "I'm not being picky" comment and may have been looking too deeply for an alternative cause of the problem in your case. Have to admit that Kirk's answer does seem to be the most logical but does rely on individual perceptions of quality which I was trying to "get around."
