Emailing photo - what am I doing wrong

I have just purchased photoshop elements 9, I have a mac, and I am trying to email a photo which I have adjusted to the size requested which is 1300 w x 1000 h pix at high res, the photo is of the Beatles from 1965 but when I click email attachments a box comes up with a logo which is like something broken, whenever I try to send the picture via regular email it is never the right size, I even paid someone to do it on to a disc and it is still not right when I email it, IT IS ALWAYS TO SMALL, this picture is going to be used on a website header so it is holding everything up what am I doing wrong can anyone help.
Thanks

Do you use OS X mail? Put the photo on the desktop so you know where it is, start a new message in mail, click the attachments button and navigate to the copy you want to send.
Do not use PSE or the Photo Browser in mail. Either will resize the image.

  • Can not use my backup photos, what am I doing wrong?

    I am having problems using the photos from my external hard drive. I switch library, and get all the thumbs up in iphoto. When I try to edit them or export in any way, I am not allowed to. This is very frustrating, can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

    n555:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The "!" in the edit window indicates that iPhoto has lost the link to the original file in the Originals folder. Check in the Originals folder to make sure you have the full sized image files in there.
    Did you rename or move any files/folders in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder? That's one way to get the situation you're experiencing but it would be only for those you tampered with. Since it's the entire library then you've probably fallen victim to the damaged database file problem that hit a lot of users.
    If the full sized image files are there you can try to rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all of the options. I'm not optimistic that the rebuild will recover your library but it's worth a try.
    If the rebuild does not work you'll have to start a new library and import the image files from the damaged one as follows:
    1 - rename the iPhoto Library folder that's on the external HD.
    2 - launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, select Create a new library, navigate to the external HD and do so.
    3 - with the new library open, drag the Originals folder from the old library into the open iPhoto window.
    This will give you a new library with the same rolls as the old one. However you'll lose your albums, slideshows, keywords, etc.
    To help protect from this type of problem in the future check out the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Muddy photos--what am I doing wrong?

    Hello all,
    I'm a newish Lightroom user. I feel that my photos usually look very muddy around the edges/details when zoomed in in Lightroom.
    I am attaching an example that I shot RAW using Canon 5D Mark II with the 24-70mm lens. Is it something I'm doing wrong either when shooting or with post processing?
    Thanks so much for any answer.

    Basics are not adjusted optimally, consider:
    Exposure: Left (you got the whole thing, including midtones shifted too far rightward - highlights are getting jammed and blacks are unhinged).
    Contrast: Left (it's a high contrast photo, with little need for midtone contrast, so it seems contrast reduction is called for - will help lift shadows and control highlights without excessive use of highlights & shadows sliders).
    Highlights: Left (to preserve highlight detail).
    Shadows: Right (to bring light into the woman's darkness).
    Whites: Right (to keep dress bright and maintain sense of "contrast", and expand highlights for dress detail).
    Blacks: Left (to get rid of that muddiness , and maintain sense of "contrast"). Note: with -contrast & +shadows, -blacks should not make the bottom end too dark.
    Clarity to taste...
    PS - As you know, you can also use tone curve for fine-tuning tonal distribution, but consider doing most of the heavy lifting with the basics.
    PPS - Consider a touch of paint too, to perfect - e.g. +exposure -contrast in darker regions around face/hair - as long as -blacks is strong enough, this should not result in muddiness (or you could "cheat" and use a radial gradient instead of paint ).
    Also, consider clicking auto-tone to see what Lr would do with it - can often be highly educational .
    Summary: this is a photo that warrants full dynamic range, in my opinion - ideally there should be some black clipping and some white clipping. Within that dynamic range, basics, tone curve and local supplementation for most pleasing tonal distribution...
    eh?
    UPDATE:
    I processed the jpeg screenshot and found a pleasing result by:
    * dropping exposure a little bit (not as much as I expected would be needed).
    * decreasing contrast a lot.
    * increasing whites a lot.
    * decreasing blacks a lot.
    * minimal -highlights
    * minimal +shadows
    * one big radial gradient over shadow side (her right) of face (+exposure).
    * one small radial gradient over other (her left) eye (+exposure).
    * No clarity required.
    * Bumped saturation (often helps restore "presence" when reducing contrast to satisfy tonal goals).
    Points:
    * Minimal use of shadows slider eliminated the harsh look and obviated need for -clarity.
    * lowered exposure, coupled with -blacks assured -contrast did not result in loss of "clarity".
    * strong -highlights not necessary once exposure dropped, and minimizing it kept photo looking "bright", despite reduced exposure (along with +whites).
    * Indeed, all of this left the bride's face too dark, but that's what locals are for - a couple radial gradients and photo looks bright enough all around, with no muddiness.
    About me: I'm not a super photographer, so I have to make up for it using Lightroom .
    UPDATE #2:
    You also asked about shooting - a little fill light (e.g. via flash or whatever else may have been handy, in this case on-axis (e.g. pop-up) would probably have been fine) would have helped and probably eliminated the need to use locals.
    Just remember to remove the lens hood before shooting (wider angles) with on-camera flash, or else it casts a nasty shadow (I forget that regularly, so - note to self if not to you...).

  • Frames on photos - what am I doing wrong?

    Hello,
    I am having trouble figuring out something. I have re-sized a group of photos to ultiimately display on a photo gallery page and wanted to add frames to them. Whenever I apply a frame to the photo, the photo gets really small and a large area of canvas is added around the photo - I presume to the size of the original photo. It's okay if the photo is reduced a little to accommodate the frame but this is ridiculous looking - not to mention making it very difficult for me to choose a photo size that is appropriate. Am I doing something wrong? or is there a way to add a frame to a photo without creating such a large area around the photo? Sign me frustrated...
    Webmom

    Maureen,
    I suppose you are using the frames under Artwork and Effects. Looking at
    those for the first time, they appear to me as predefined layouts for album
    pages or scrap books. I don't think they lend themselves too well for your
    purpose. Following is a quote from PSE5 Help:
    "To add a frame or theme to an image
    When you add a frame or theme to a photo creation, frames appear with a
    blank (gray) area for the image. Click and drag an image from the Photo Bin
    to the blank area.
    In the Artwork And Effects palette, do one of the following:
    Click the Artwork icon. Choose Frames from the category menu, and then
    choose a subcategory, such as Colorful.
    Click the Themes icon. Choose an item from the category menu, such as
    Scrapbook.
    Do one of the following:
    Select a thumbnail and click Apply.
    Double-click a thumbnail.
    Drag the thumbnail to the blank background.
    Drag the desired image from the Photo Bin to the frame.
    Use the slider to resize the image in the frame or theme border. When you're
    finished, either click the Commit icon to apply the change, or click the
    Cancel icon .
    Use the Move tool to center the image. When you're finished, either click
    the Commit icon to apply the change, or click the Cancel icon."
    You will probably be better off doing your frames manually, as described by
    Andrei. You can also use the Shape tool to create frames. Or you may want
    to Google for some add-on frames, which you can install into Elements.

    Unable to delete email from trash bin.  How do I do this?  If I select and chose delete, it doesn't.  What am I doing wrong?  My grand daughte is using my iPad and I don't want her to see some of the mail there.

    There are two ways that should work. When you are in the trash folder, you can swipe on the email in the list - left to right - and a red Delete button should pop up. Or you can select - Edit - at the top of the list of messages and then select the message and tap delete.
    Not sure exactly how this works - but if you have restrictions enabled - especially since you let your grandchild use the device - that may be restricting what you can do in the mail app. Go to Settings>General>Restrictions. If you have it set to on - turn it off or see if you have mail restricted.

  • I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

    I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

    Have you checked the ink cartridges and made sure the nozzles are clear? Are you able to print from outside of iPhoto with the correct color?
    Try the following: make temporary copy of the library and do the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

    I make annotations to my photos in iphoto using preview. But once I have made the annotation I do not get the photo back into the event in iphoto from which I took the photo. What am I doing wrong? I am not using aperture

    For the annotations to display on the photo in iPhoto you must setup Preview as the external editor in iPhoto via iPhoto's Advanced preference pane.
    After adding the annotations just do a Save.  iPhoto will then recognize the change via a new modified version.  You can revert to the original at any time if you want to get rid of the text.

  • HT1338 When I email an attachment with "Always Sent Windows-Friendly Attachments" checked, the result is a picture embedded in the body of the email, not a attachment.  What am I doing wrong.

    When I email an attachment (a .jpg file) with "Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments" checked, the result is a picture embedded in the body of the email, not a attachment.  What am I doing wrong.

    1. "Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments" has nothing to do with the display of attachments on either your machine or other ones. It's an esoteric setting that strips the resource fork from Mac files (that might have them) which could apper as a duplicate file on the Windows machine.
    2. Send Plain Text emails. Then it will always be received as an attachment.

    Using Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor as external editor in Aperture.  The issue is once i make the changes in Photoshop it request that I save (use tiff) and the photo is not update in Aperture.  What am I doing wrong?

    Marianne,
    how do you save? Photoshop Elements can save either versions or overwrite the original file, afaik.
    You need to set the save preferences, so that it will write to the original file and not write a version. Also the filename extension should be "tiff" and not the default "tif" (I think you did that already).

    Why are my emails not deleting from all devices when deleted from one?  I have iCloud mail set up and turned on. I have ipad2, iPhone 5 and a Mac desktop. What am I doing wrong?  Thank you.

    It depends on the type of email account you are using, not on iCloud.  If you are using an IMAP or exchange account, when you delete from one device, it is deleted from all devices.  If you are using a POP (POP3) account, it won't.  (iCloud email, Gmail and Yahoo are all IMAP accounts.)
