Emails are gone

Hello everyone, I have been a Verizon customer for several years. I use your email service as my main email, and I have found it to be reliable with Microsoft Office Outlook, and my iPhone 4. I recently totaled my hard drive on my computer and was forced to purchase a new one, and I lost all of my old mail that was in Outlook. Soon thereafter, I had to restore my iPhone to factory settings and then restore it from a backup. Thankfully, unlike my computer, it restored everything successfully...except for my email. I didn't think this was a problem and I went to the Verizon online mail client expecting to be able to recover my files from there that I had lost on both my iPhone and computer, and alas, there are only 16 unread messages, all of them from today. Is there anything that I am missing, or a way for them to be recovered from the server? I have heard of Outlook downloading the mail from the server and then eating it, but maybe it can be recovered directly from the server by a Verizon professional. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, as I am in quite a fix; the quicker, the better, because I wouldn't want the majority of my important emails to be deleted because they were on the server for too long.
Thanks!

Sorry...  Your emails are lost.
Now is a good time to learn about Outlook Archive folders which is a construct available to any version of MS Office Outlook.  They exist as compressed disk files with the PST file extension ( *.PST files ).
You can have emails manually or automatically moved or copied into Archive Folders.  Then on a periodic basis you can copy the PST file(s) to a Flash Drive, External Hard Disk or burn them to DVD or DVDRW discs.   This way you have full control of your email messages and you will have backups in case of disasters.
NOTE:  If you do use DVD media, don't let a singular PST grow over ~4.5GB so the PST will fit on DVD media

  • My draft emails are gone after Maverick update... is there a way to bring them back?

After the Maverick update all the draft emails are gone in mail... is there a way to have them back?

If your main account is gmail follow the instructions below:
    Quit Mail.app.
Log into Gmail in your favorite web browser.
Click on the gear menu and select Settings.
    Click on the Labels tab.
Under System Labels, next to Drafts, click on show if unread and uncheck the Show in IMAP box. Now disable Store draft messages on the server.
    Launch Mail.app.
    Select Mail → Preferences…
Click on the Accounts button in the toolbar.
Click once on the account name and then click the Mailbox Behaviors tab.
Uncheck the Store draft messages on the server box.
Close the window and opt to save your changes when prompted.
Follow the steps above and your draft messages should "magically" reappear in your draft folder on Mail. Here is the full link:

    Buffzap,
Make sure that you choose Mail>View>Show Mailbox List, then hover your cursor over one of the subordinate mailbox categories, and you should see "Show." Next click on "Show."

  • Tried Mail New Look and 99% of emails are gone including accounts and sigs

Can anyone please tell me how to restore my old mail? My 40k emails are gone including drafts and sent mail and I haven't backed up for a year.

You need to delete that new Envelope Index file you just created when you restarted Mail; that doesn't mean you have to empty the Trash yet.
Do that, then restart Mail and don't cancel the process; otherwise nothing will get imported. After it's done, check to see if the messages are there.
To repair permissions go to /Applications/Utilities and launch Disk Utility. Select the name of your hard disk on the left in the First Aid tab, then click on Repair Disk Permissions. Wait until it says it finished successfully and quit.

  • I HAD TO DO A FACTORY RESET ON MY COMPUTER AND HAD TO DOWNLOAD FIREFOX AGAIN BUT ALL MY PASSWORDS AND EMAILS ARE GONE PLEASE HELP

i had problems with my computer so had to do a factory reset downloaded firefox and all emails and passwords are gone i am new to this and didnt know how to back them up i need these emails and passwords back

If you've reset your Windows setup by doing a factory reset and you didn't make a backup of the personal data in the Firefox Profile Folder before doing this then I'm afraid that all data that Firefox stores in the Firefox Profile Folder is lost.

  • I just moved to iCloud and now my old emails are gone. How do I get them back?

I just moved to iCloud and now all my old e-mails (not from a me account) are gone. How can I get my e-mail back? Please Help!!

    Hi Roger!
You are right.  It was not exaclty the moving to iCloud that caused the e-mail to disappear. What happened after the change to iCloud was that I did see my old email but when I tried to open it just does not show any content.
Then I looked at some options and did Choose Mailbox > Rebuild.
That is when all my old mail disapeared.
    Any suggestions?
Thank you so much for your help!!

  • IMPA Accounts - My old emails are gone!

I recently switched over my POP mail account to IMAP in Mail and also chose the option that Mail downloads ALL the mail from my server.
My IMAP email server keeps messages for 31 days before deleting them permanently so I thought by enabling that option they would still be available in my Mail application.
I was wrong. The other day when I was trying to find an old email I noticed that I got no emails in mail anymore older then August 31st. All of my old email is gone!
Is there no way to use IMAP and still tell Mail not to just delete all of your messages once the server automitically deletes them? Don't people want to store their email messages?
    Any solutions to this?
    Philipp

You may configure your POP accounts as follows to make your life easier:
    1. Go to Preferences > Accounts > Advanced, and set Remove copy from server to After one week, for example, to give both computers time to download all messages before they are removed from the server.
    2. Go to Preferences > Composing and check Automatically [Bcc:] myself, so that each computer receives a copy of every message sent. You may also want to erase copies of sent messages after a certain amount of time in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors to avoid having two copies of them.
The main disadvantage of this approach as compared to IMAP is that it merely ensures that all messages are available on both computers. Read/unread status, mail organization, deletion, etc. cannot be synchronized.
Note also that Mail stores most preferences and all account settings in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist, and that everything else, including all your messages and mailboxes, is stored in ~/Library/Mail. Copying these (the preferences file and the entire Mail folder itself, not just its contents) from one computer to the other would allow you to have an exact copy of all your messages, mailboxes and Mail settings on both computers.
In order to avoid potential permission issues, the files should be copied operating on the destination computer and while logged in as the user that's going to use them. Also, be sure Mail isn't running on either computer while doing that.
In order to avoid accidentally losing any data, instead of overwriting the ~/Library/Mail folder on the destination right away, move it to the Desktop before transferring the files, and delete it only after making sure that you don’t miss anything.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • All of my emails are gone. My accounts are all IMAP. Only one was affected.  I had checked via a browser and my iPhone and the emails are gone. I am able to send/receive current emails, but have no idea what happened.

I have a MBP running Lion 10.7.3 and was importing some photos in to iPhoto '11 9.2.3 and thought I'd look at my mail. I opened it up, iPhoto got quit unexpectedly and the next thing I know my email inbox is empty, except for one "Apple iPod Antitrust email."
My email is on iCloud and I have look at my mail through browsers and my iPhone. The old emails are not there.
I have no idea what to do or where to start looking.

  • Opened Mail and all mailboxes and emails are gone

Today i've opened Mail to check for new emails and it started as recently installed. No emails, no mailboxes, nothing.
How can i recover my emails back?
    Thanks

Go to Mail>Preference>Accounts. Delete the account and re-enter them. Doesn't seem that Mail will actually delete your e-mails, it might be that its just not showing them. Also go to your e-mail website and see if your e-mails are there.

  • I compacted my folders in Thunderbird, now all my emails are gone. Where are they, and how can I retrieve them?

When Thunderbird asked if I wanted to compact all files, thinking this would just make better use of the space, I agreed. Now my emails have disappeared. I tried "Repair Folder" but nothing has returned. Any idea where I can find my emails?

  • On my ipad2 all my emails are gone!  I have blank screen.

On my ipad2 all my emails have disappeared.  It is now a blank screen even though it says I have 59 emails.  What happened?

Have you tried closing the Mail app completely and then seeing if the emails show when you re-open it ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
