They are not on the the phone, they are on the server, which the phone show you
In other words, you only see what is on the server through the phone

  • Emails deleted on server and on iphone

I have noticed in the past two weeks that emails on my iphone are disappearing-they download only to be wiped out by new ones. Emails on the server seemingly do the same, even though I just changed the settings to never delete yesterday in an effort to stop the auto delete. I can't seem to figure out the problem and it is a problem since I rely on my iphone to receive and answer emails- Anyone have a solution?

OK that explains it then.  When an email client like Outlook, Windows Live Mail or some other is set up using POP3 in the account, by default it will download anything from the Inbox on the server to your computer and then delete it from the server.  That's why the phone can't see them---because when you check your email with Outlook it grabs the emails.
If you want to be able to see your email and work with it on more than one computer or other device like a smartphone or a tablet, you need to set the account up in each one using IMAP.  Which by the way is now the default for Comcast.  That just happened over the last few months.  Before that the default was POP3.  Here are the settings for IMAP--------------------
    http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email/
The phone  is probably already using IMAP, but check it anyway.
POP3 is an older protocol, and was intended for use by people using only one computer.  And at any rate, POP doesn't support local folders.  It only works on the Inbox.  In IMAP you should see everything from any device.  Anything you do to an email on one device/computer is reflected on any others with the same account enabled on it.
I have no idea why Comcast would tell you to use POP, since they are now recommending IMAP as the preferred protocol.

  • Deleting off server

How do I automatically set messages to delete off the server? Like after 14, they automatically delete. How can I do that?
    ~GB5~

In mail>preferences>accounts>advanced there's a dropdown list of when to delete messages that you've received from the server. Tick the check box and select the time.

  • Q10 email deletion off of server

My emails on my Blackberry Q10 when I delete them on my phone it also deletes them off the server. There is no option to stop this. This is causing me real problems. It was OK on the old software but not on the 273 software.

Latest software update still does not stop this from happening. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO FIX IT???

  • Email not deleting off server

Anyone know how to make POP servers obey the preference in Apple Mail: Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server after retrieving a message: When moved from inbox. ??
This is the way I have all my mobile devices set with the hope that I can delete unwanted email once and not have to do it on each Apple device I have redundently.
My Mac Pro main computer is set to remove mail immediately which my POP servers obey.
The issue is when I'm away from my Mac Pro and want to check my mail delete once.
I know IMAP would obey this, but I have several email accounts and ISPs and want to have one set of folders and with IMAP I gather I'd have to store my email separately for each email account which is the one virtual for POP where I can store "On My Mac" in one set of folders on my Mac Pro, realizing I can't access them as if they were stored on a server using any device.

I have the same issue.  Want to delete from iPhone and use the email on my computer to do all the detail work.  Without it, until I can do the detail work on my computer, I will have thousands of emails piling up on my phone.  I have tried setting up 2 file folders on my exchange server email; one called 'file' for filing certain emails and one called 'pending action' for those emails requiring more detailed work.  It works - - but creates additional process steps each day.  Even if I have already filed or done the detail work with the email on the computer, those emails still come to the iPhone.  Again, creating double work.
Some smart and very organized person must have come up with an app to resolve this, don't you think?

  • Recover emails deleted on server that are still on iPhone?

We are using Outlook at work, and I accidentally and permanently deleted just about everything from my inbox.  I immediately put my iphone into airplane mode, so my all the emails are saved on my phone, but gone off the server.
I was able to recover some of the emails through the web access mail server, but not all.
Does anyone know of a way to push the emails back to my server inbox from my iphone?  Other than forwarding every indididual item?  I would like to keep the sender as original, and there are something like 400 emails..
    thanks!

There's nothing you can do on the phone to fix it. If the IT department can't (or won't) restore your mailbox to a previous state, about the only thing I can think of it forward all of them to yourself (with the phone offline) then take it back online, which should allow the messages in the outbox to send.
Many organizations either don't back up the active mail store or refuse to use it for anything other than disaster recovery for legal reasons.

  • E-Mail Issues: Retrieved E-Mails deleting off server but only on one of two accounts

I am the proud owner of a Z10 as of 4 days ago. So far, it's a great device, but I've got one problem. I want the e-mail messages retrieved on my phone to stay on the server, and this is working, but only for one account.
I setup my two e-mail accounts, Comcast and GMail, both as POP accounts. I did not setup GMail as IMAP. I tested the connections to see that the messages were properly retrieved on the phone, then I logged into each account to see that the messages were staying on the server. It appeared as though they were, but apparently I didn't wait long enough on the GMail account because the messages were being deleted from the server and I didn't notice this for 3 days. Again, my phone is NOT doing this for my Comcast account and I don't know why.
I have about 10 e-mails now on my phone in my GMail account that I can't seem to get back on the GMail server. I need to do this so I can download the messages to my home server where all my mail is stored.
I thought maybe I could create a second IMAP GMail account in the hub and copy the messages from one account to the other, but I can't.
If I continue to let the phone get those messages, they'll continue to be removed from the server.
If I forward them to myself, then they just show up as having come from me and that's not what I need either.
If I delete the account entirely, I lose my messages and that's definitely not what I want.
I thought I could tell the phone to stop logging into the GMail account by updating the password on the device, but it has to authenticate to the server to confirm that the password is correct, and if it isn't, it won't take the password and returns an error.
So far, the only thing I've been able to do to get the phone to stop retrieving the messages is to change my GMail password and not update it on the phone. That way, the phone can't sign in to GMail at all and get any new mail. However, I still have these 10 messages on my device that I need to export somehow.
Is there a way to export mail on this device? Is there a way to copy messages from account to account? What directory is the mail stored in and what file format is it stored in? Can I convert the messages to .csv and do it that way? And why did this happen only for my GMail POP account and not Comcast?

This is a wi-fi network connection problem - not a problem with an email account.
Do you have cellular reception at home? If so, you should be able to receive email with both email accounts as long as you have an internet connection with the cellular network.
On your iPhone go to Settings > General > Reset and select Reset Network Settings.
This will delete all wi-fi network settings from your iPhone for every wi-fi network you have successfully connected your iPhone with.
After doing so check if your wi-fi network is available again to re-join.

  • Hotmail/Outlook eMail Messages deleted off of iPhone are not being delted off of server

I am using the MAIL app on my iPhone to acces my Hotmail/Outlook account. It is set up as a POP3 account. When I delete an email message on the phone, it is never deleted on the server, even though I have the settings in my phone set to delete them from server when removed from Inbox.
I have not found a clear answer to this issue. Right now I have 10K email messages when I log into my Hotmail

POP accounts are not reliable for deleting off the server.  Contact Hotmail.  IMAP accounts are what you want.

  • Thunderbolt-email not deleting from server

I checked my settings and the box is checked to delete messages from the server once they are deleted off of my phone.  This problem is just in the past week or so.  I delete them and as soon as email refreshes again they are back.  HELP!

ok I deleted and reinstalled the email account and that did not work.  I then logged into web mail and deleted the items from the server.  I then went to the TB and under settings deleted all data from the mail app.  I then set the email account back up and no longer seem to be experiencing the issue.  If you are having this issue and need a clearer explanation please let me know.  Thanks!

Hey rbrylawski, just wanted to let you know that my ipad email problems have been solved. Called Apple Sup in OZ, I'm in NZ. Daniel Barber was the support tech from heaven!! I was about to return the ipad but solving this issue reset my faith in phone support.....perhaps until I call a differnet companys phone support eh? Anyhow, for reference the fix is below.  My accounts are all POP not IMAP, and the primary smtp server setting had defaulted to have SSL switched on and the port was set to 5XX (something, cant remember). Anyhow, SSL was switched off and the port was swithced to 25. VOILÀ!!  Settings/Mail, contacts, calendars/My POP mail account/smtp/primary server/ >>> server on, no username and password,  use SSL off,  no authentication,  Server Port 25  Thanks for having a crack at it. This might help when assisting another user. Cheers Tonino

  • Device email controls the server - read/unread and deleting!

My problem is that my BB Hub seems to have complete control over my web-based email server.  In other words, whenever I delete an email from my BB Hub inbox, it deletes the email from my server as well.  This is a huge problem for me, as for the past 10 years I've been in the habit of deleting emails on my device after I read them and then addressing them later in my office, where the messages have also been pulled down by Outlook (or, when I'm travelling, I can go online and see the messages online through my web-based server directly).  This is more than a mere personal preference:  it's crucial to be able to read certain emails on a full-sized monitor.  The small screen of a phone just doesn't cut it sometimes.
Another problem I'm having is that my BB Hub inbox marks all my messages as "read," even before I read them.  And, when I mark them "unread," it makes them pop back up on my server.  This is also more than a minor annoyance:  when you get 300-500 emails per day, it's really hard to keep track of what you've read and what you haven't when all of them are marked as "read."
Is there a way to divorce my online server from the Q10's control?  Putting the sync on "manual" and turning off "push" doesn't work.
If you can't use Outlook and BB10 and yet still have messages come "unread" to your device, then that adds a major inconvenience.  Maybe I'm not savvy enough with Outlook, but I don't think that it will allow you to pull down messages from the server and still leave them "unread" on that server.  You can leave a copy of the original message on the server, but you can't leave it in an "unread" state.  This will prevent the Z/Q10 from ever having unread messages on its display (if you're an Outlook user on your desktop).
And, you're in the dangerous territory of being able to permanently delete messages from the server by deleting them from your device.  The BB has always been an additional tool, not a replacement for the desktop environment.  If I can no longer delete messages as I read them until I'm sure they've been pulled down from the server and saved by Outlook, this will result in a much more cluttered inbox on a day to day basis, and, thus, more time cleaning it up at the end of each day.  BB was supposed to add to convenience, not detract from it.
    Solved!

    Hello,
BB10 is nothing like legacy, so any expectation that it would function like legacy is destined for disappointment. Legacy devices used BIS, which provided all of the functions you mention. BB10 does not use BIS, and instead has a full on-device email client, which functions in the manner that it is designed.
From all you describe, it is WAD -- Working As Designed. The on-device mailbox and the server are intended to now be mirror images of each other...whatever you do on one will reflect to the other. There is no way to override this, since it is WAD.
Workarounds exist by using server folders to move things to instead of deleting them. The workarounds are cumbersome, but they are what they are. The design of the device is what it is.
Many are hoping that future updates may bring some of these features to the BB10 platform, but no one can say if/when such will happen. For now, it is what it is.
    Good luck!

  • How do I get my iPad and IPhone synced where if I delete an email off one it is deleted off the other device?

How do I get my iPad and IPhone synced where if I delete an email off one it is deleted off the other device? I can get all the Apps and music from one to the other but why won't the emails I delete off one not delete off the other? Is there anyway where I can make this happen?

As James says, make sure that you are using the IMAP servers for your email. You will need to check the help pages for your email provider to get the correct settings in all your devices. POP really doesn't fit the needs of todays mutiple access, always on internet, so you are better off moving to IMAP.

  • How can I get my email to delete off my computer as I delete it off my phone?

I can't seem to sync my phone to my computer when I delete my email.  I have to delete from my phone and then log in to my Cox email to delete from there.  Is there a way to get it off both at the same time?  I have a POP address with cox.

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Select your Mail account > Advanced > Delete fro server > change it to when removed from my inbox
Another option is to forward your Cox email to your iCloud email account. iCloud uses IMAP not POP so you would not have that problem

  • How to keep email on AOL server when mirror email on Mail is deleted?

I linked my AOL account to Mail.app (on my MacBook) via IMAP protocol using the AOL Service Assistant. I understand that under this protocol, the emails on my IMAP is a mirror image of what is on the AOL server and vice versa. Hence if I delete any messages in Mail, it is also deleted on the AOL server. Is there any way that I can delete the message in Mail but have it remain on the AOL server?
Thanks in advance for any help.

iBook SE (Firewire) 466   Mac OS 9.0.x

    Hi DawnMaple!
I don't use Apple Mail, so I can't directly answer your question, but even if there is a procedure to do what you want, after a certain amount of time, I think it may be about seven days, AOL will still remove the Emails from the server,
If you want to retain all of your AOL mail, you can do it with the AOL software, if it is installed.
    Open AOL Preferences > Mail.
Select Save the mail I read & Save the mail I send.
Then still in AOL Preferences, use the scroll bar to navigate to Filing Cabinet, and click on that.
Checkmark Automatically delete items in my filing cabinet, and in the contextual menus, below Delete after, select Never.
    Click on OK.
