Emails not deleted from IMAP server

For some days I have the problem that my emails which I deleted on my iMac in Apple Mail still stick on the IMAP server (web.de).
I didn't change any preferences in Mail. I double checked all settings.
This problem occurs in Apple Mail on the desktop only. Mail on iPhone does delete the emails on the server successful.
The other way around: When I delete an email on the desktop the same email disappears in iOS Mail too!!! But it still sticks on the IMAP server. Really strange.
The only way to get rid of deleted emails is to force the deletion via the Mail sidebar, right click on the account name and click the menu item "delete mails... " or so.
The support of my provider has no clue how to solve this.
Any idea?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • My emails are deleted from the server daily. I checked leave emails on server? This is a new problem, My emails would always be on the server until I deleted

On a daily basis my emails are deleted from the server, even if I still have them on my computer.

Actually, it had to do with Comcast, not the iPad. The default for Comcast is IMAP, and that is based on the information they have available when the account goes into verification. It verifies an IMAP account, and since you have not migrated to the IMAP account, you were having problems. It isn't something anyone can fix, except you. It would not ask you at the beginning if you wanted IMAP or POP, it has to do with the mail provider's verification settings, which is a Comcast issue, but because they are providing IMAP now, it defaults to that. If you are still using POP, you have to force the mail app to get there, which is what I provided you the instructions for. Apple is not going to fix anything, because there is nothing for them to fix.
Either way, you got it fixed and that is all it takes. As a Comcast customer, I was aware of this, since I had migrated to IMAP already.

  • Why are my emails not deleting from all devices when deleted from one?  I have iCloud set up and turned on. I have ipad2, iphone5 and a Mac. What am I doing wrong?  Thank you

Why are my emails not deleting from all devices when deleted from one?  I have iCloud mail set up and turned on. I have ipad2, iPhone 5 and a Mac desktop. What am I doing wrong?  Thank you.

It depends on the type of email account you are using, not on iCloud.  If you are using an IMAP or exchange account, when you delete from one device, it is deleted from all devices.  If you are using a POP (POP3) account, it won't.  (iCloud email, Gmail and Yahoo are all IMAP accounts.)

  • Comcast email not deleting from server

Under the "advanced" section I have my email set to remove from server when removed from inbox. Well, this does not happen! Is this an ATT issue or a Comcast issue?
If I use the Comcast app and delete email, it IS deleted from the server.
    Thanks!

I think more of a Mail application issue or a Mail application issue only.
This doesn't resolve the problem, but although a POP account can be accessed with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only. This isn't a problem with an IMAP account which is designed for this very thing.
Which Comcast app are you referring to? Is there a Comcast app via the iTunes app store? If so and you want to ensure messages are deleted from the server after being accessed with your iPhone, you need to use the Comcast app.

  • Why is all of my email being deleted from the server?

    Hi Everyone!
I am using an iPad Air 2, iOS version 8.1.2 (still have to perform the current update).  When I download email from my ISP, Comcast, it gets deleted from their server.  This never happened with my 2nd Generation iPad.
I go to settings>Mail>accounts>advanced - and under the Incoming settings, I don't have an option for "delete from server"  where I am supposed to select "never".  Instead, it has "IMAP Path Prefix / "
How do I fix this so my email stays on the server?   I like to check my email using my ipad and iphone, but I prefer saving it on my desktop PC but I can't do this because when my email is downloaded into the ipad, it gets deleted from Comcast's servers.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

  • HT3228 Why is mail not deleted from the server?

I receive mail onto my ipad - and want the settings to be such that if I delete it from my ipad inbox it is deleted from the server,
I have the advanced settings on the ipad saying -Delete from server - when removed from inbox - but it is not working - please help?
I want it this way so things I need to keep can be saved on my home PC - but things I want to read / action / delete can be done from my ipad and then deleted.
I keep about 10% of mail onto my PC.
Also confused as this used to work.....

  • My emails are deleting from the server...

I have recently purchased a new iMac, and set up my different email accounts. However, the emails are now being deleted from the server once they are downloaded to my iMac (and therefore my phone, and can't be accessed by my business partner). How do I stop this from happening?

How do I stop this from happening?
By using an IMAP or Exchange account for mail, rather than POP, which is what you have now.

  • Emails not deleting on verizon server, from MS Outlook client

I evidently have 5 years of emails on the verizon server (45K emails). And have finally hit some quota. I use MS Outlook POP3 with advanced settings of - Leave a copy of the messages on the server (checked)      - Remove from server after [N] days   (unchecked)      - Remove from server when deleted from "Deleted Items'  (checked) I thought when I deleted items locally from within Outlook and eventually purged my Deleted Items folder, they would get deleted at the Verizon server as well.  Evidently not. I do have multiple devices -  Two Computers and an iPhone, so perhaps this prevents any one of them from permanently deleting anything from the server.  Or perhaps the last one in defines it.  Anyhow, other than trying to fix those settings for the future, my issue is how to best batch delete the undesired mails on the server, while still preserving the desired, as a backup of sorts, and for ease of use when bringing a new device (PC or phone) online in the future.  There appears to be no "sweep"-like functions on the Verizon email website interface.   All I can do is either- put 50 on screen at a time, select all, and delete, and wait for the next 50 to show, many times being from the same source.- put unlimited (45K) on screen, multi-select as many as the UI loads, delete, and wait for the UI to re-sort and display more.  This hangs many times requiring me to exit to the Verizon main screen and come back into the email screen, bring them all up in default sort, then select to sort by sender. Rinse Repeat. - Delete them all - take the loss on having them as backup  - Outlook has them locally.  But not sure they are backed up properly.  I've never tried to restore a .pst file before.- Play with the MyVerizon web site UI folders, move desired email into a new holding folder, delete the remainders eventually.  But this is as tedious as purging the undesired in the first place.- Get a gmail account - notify contacts. Cut bait with the verizon.net server. Any thoughts, advice?

Actually the verizon server only held email back to April 2014.  Which is sort of odd.  If it purges the oldest email on its own, why did it block new email today for hitting the quota? After some further reading, I went with the heavy handed approach of deleting all email on the verizon server up to this year.  I may just nuke it all.  My local Outlook .pst file has the archive email I want (I think), and it gets backed up. I think I may just set the POP3 settings to delete mail off the server after 30 days, figuring we pull it daily, and only go on vacation for 2w max at a time, so we'll always be back to pull recent mail to the PC.  We'll have already been reading it on the phones anyhow, but since its POP3 and not IMAP, we'll always have the option to pull locally to the PC as a repository.

messages are not being deleted from server when deleted from ipad

    Hello,
You need to tell us what the email service is. BES? BIS -- and, if so, what email provider? If BES, then see your BES admins. If BIS, then expect it to function in accordance with this KB.
Otherwise, you can try the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your BIS conduits for the affected email accounts.

  • Thunderbolt-email not deleting from server

I checked my settings and the box is checked to delete messages from the server once they are deleted off of my phone.  This problem is just in the past week or so.  I delete them and as soon as email refreshes again they are back.  HELP!

ok I deleted and reinstalled the email account and that did not work.  I then logged into web mail and deleted the items from the server.  I then went to the TB and under settings deleted all data from the mail app.  I then set the email account back up and no longer seem to be experiencing the issue.  If you are having this issue and need a clearer explanation please let me know.  Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
As far as I know, you need to configure your email account as IMAP if you would like to have them removed on the phone when they are deleted at your PC. If you're not sure about the settings for IMAP, I suggest that you contact your email provider which should be able to give you the right settings.

  • Emails will NOT delete from the server

    Hello,
My issue is I have a gmail account setup on my phone. When I delete the emails from my phone it actually doesn't delete the emails from the main server account also. What it does is that it hides them, so when I access my gmail on the webserver, I have to actively look for them and manually delete them from there too.
This wasn't the case in the previous phones. Anyone tell me what is going wrong?
    Thanks

oh ok , so you're not reading them first, just deleting and marked as archived.
Huh. Just looked, and it's the same on my gmail, never realized that. Gmail is only archiving not moving them to trash or fully deleting. That's a Gmail policy.

  • How to stop emails being deleted from Hotmail server

Since the new IOS update I can't seem to choose whether I want to keep my emails in the Hotmail server or not if I delete them from my iPhone. Does anyone know how to stop that from happening?

Did you ever find out how to do this?  I am having the same situation.  Thanks

  • Sent email not stored (on IMAP server)

    Hi,
I browsed through a lot of discussions and found that a lot of other people are having the same problem.  I still couldn't find a solution to my problem in these discussions though.
My Mail app (6.0) is set to 'store sent message on server' and never delete it.  I selected the correct folder (left pane) to 'use this mailbox for' sent emails in the 'Mailbox' menu.
Still, when sending an email, it is not saved in the 'sent' mailbox and I can't find it on the webmail either.  It is delivered to its receiver though.
I called my ISP and they are telling me it is my Mail application (can be right, as it works perfectly with Thunderbird).  Apple is telling me it is my ISP...
Meanwhile, I still have this issue and I realy would like to use Mail instead of Thunderbird.  Please help.

ok, problem solved.  It seems this was a problem with my ESP not granting full acces or writing privileges to Apples Mail application.  I was tired of this provider anyway for multiple reasons; so I switched.  Now it works fine.

  • IPad Mail not deleting from server

Does anyone else have this problem? I have my mail accounts set so that they should delete emails from the server as soon as they are deleted from ipad. It doesn't seem to work though.. as I just came back home after a trip and all the dozens of email messages came flooding into my Mac inbox
Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I also need to delete the mail on the ipad's mail trash perhaps...

SO SORRY for not responding.... For some reason I have not been getting emails saying there are replies to this topic.
As it happened, I thought I had solved the problem, but I haven't...
In the settings for my email accounts, I am offered the option of my emails being deleted from their server as soon as I delete them from the iPad email inbox. However, when I choose this option, they are not deleted.
DAVID I do not have the setting that you describe available for my email accounts either... It seems that different setting options appear according to the nature of the email account that is being set up.
It is clear to me that the way I have set things up is correct for what I want though, as it's very clearly stated in Settings... It's just not happening....
