Emails received but wont send

I've just moved to Japan from Australia. I have a new iPhone 6 with a Japanese provider and have kept my Australian email account. I've set it up and can receive emails but they won't send. The error message is the outgoing server is not responding. I've reset several times already and it's not working. The default port when I set up is 587 however Optus says it should be 25. Whatever I enter doesn't work and it times out verifying. The only way to send email is to login to Optus which is tedious. can anyone help?

Hello Linda,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
If you can't send email, the following article should help you troubleshoot the issues. I would also check with your ISP, they might be aware of some specifice issues with their setup.

  • Emails receiving but not sending Nokia Lumia

    Dear, I need urgently help.
I just bought Nokia Lumia Phone but facing problem in sending emails. I tried everything on phone and on server but failed to send.
This is a very serious issue and I am seeing several questions on several forums about it but both microsoft and nokia are not taking it seriously. Dont know why??
When I try to send email, a connection shows on my Email Server but it drops with receiving email. Previously I faced similar problem with Android phone but that issue had resolved when I allowed "email.android.com" by entering it in my email server's smtp whitelist.
Now, Please suggest what should I do? If there is an email server address of Nokia Lumia or microsoft Windows phone (like email.android.com) then please tell me or suggest anything else.
Because if I cannot send emails through this, then this phone is useless for me. Looking for positive response. Thanks,

Can you point us to these other posts around the web you mention? You say you are running your own mailserver and that the issue is that the connection drops after the phone connects to the server but before the transfer of mail is actually done/ Which mailserver are you using? Are you SURE you have set up all configuration details including whether you need a login for the server to send mail (and possibly a separate login as indicated HERE?
I am pretty sure this is an issue related to (security) settings on your server more than it is with the phone client which basically is the same as used with/for Outlook/Windows Mail

  • Earthlink email receiving but not sending

My grandfather has just bought a Mini Mac and is very happy with it until now. He has an earthlink email account he would like to use it with the application Mail. He can receive emails, but can not send them. I set up his account on my computer and I can send and receive just fine. Any idea what might be wrong?
Thanks for your help ahead of time!
    iMac G4 20 Inch   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

    Robby,
The Earthlink servers require authentication for any outgoing email. His account in Mail is probably not configured correctly.
Earthlink maintains very good support documentation for setting up email clients, including OS X Mail. Have a look at this tutorial, and follow it to the letter when re-configuring his account.
If a re-configuration doesn't help, I recommend that you delete his email account in Mail, then create a new one for him. Make sure that you back up any of his emails first, though! Deleting the account will also delete any email messages that the account contains.

  • Outlook 2011 receives but wont send

    Hello,
Didn't know where to ask this but we are having an issue with outlook on our mac mini's at our school (We have the golden triangle setup to allow AD accounts on the macs, also we host our own exchange servers). I have tried this my self and it doesn't work, the problem is I can setup my account but I am only able to receive emails, now if I use my personal macbook which isn't connected to the domain i can both send and receive emails.
    Any help would be great!

    Hi,
From your description, OWA works well, when you send emails to a.com or a.org from Outlook, sometimes messages sit in Outbox. The issue is related to Outlook side. I recommend you follow the detailed steps of the KB below to either clear the stuck message
or see if a bad connection to your mail server is stopping the message from being sent.

emails fine whether on wifi or via phone download. But sending email just takes ages and

I have two applications working my emails on my E71
The standard one which works fine and the Nokia Email.
The standard one is very basic hence why i am trying the Nokia Email application. All set up and it receives fine, but sending does not work.
It goes in the outbox then it dissapears from there and does not go in the sent box. The email never arrives so is not being sent.
    I am using googlemail
    Any ideas please ?

  • Email receiving but not sending, from mail AND entourage

Mail and Entourage on my MacBook Pro have both stopped sending mail from all of the accounts set up, although they are receiving okay. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the smtp server as my G5 iMac is sending mail no problem through the same smtp server.
Mail says "Client host rejected. Access denied."
Entourage says "Server did not understand the request."
Anyone have any ideas on this?

in mail setup you may have entered your user id and password for authenication.

  • Read this if you can receive, but not send email

If you can receive, but cannot send email on your iPhone, try the following:
Add your outgoing Server Port Number to your "Outgoing Mail Server Name"
    Example: smtp.example.com:XXXX
where XXXX is your Outgoing Server Port Number ( eg. 25 )
For specifics on how to do this, read on.
    From the Home Screen, select:
    Settings
    *Mail,Contacts ...*
your email Account ex: [email protected]
Scroll down to Outgoing Mail Server
Then select your outgoing mail server *SMTP smtp.example.com*
    Select Primary Server smtp.example.com
Host Name change smtp.example.com to smtp.example.com:XXXX
where XXXX is your Outgoing Server Port Number.
This worked great, but unfortunately this helpful hint could not be found on the Apple support forum ... until now
    Hope this helps!

This worked for me too! (iPhone 3G 2.02). Apple's once-over-lightly help with this issue is really lame. I thought better of Apple but they are turning into just another Dell or Microsoft.

  • I can't send emails via mail. I can receive but not send. I have set up gmail on mail. Any ideas?

I can't send emails via mail. I can receive but not send. I have set up gmail on mail. Any ideas? No problems with the set up previously to this.

Go to Mail Preferences- Accounts and confirm you are providing Gmail what they require to send and receive mail. And DON'T specify Secure Socket Layer. Some mail accts don't like SSL
    Good Luck to you.

  • Why can I receive but not send emails

Why can I receive but not send emails on my i pad?

Perhaps the outgoing mail server settings are incorrect or incomplete.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • I can receive but not send emails with my skynet account - what am I doing wrong ?

I can receive but not send emails with my skynet account - what am I doing wrong ?
I have no problems with my Yahoo account but I can not send emails with my skynet account.
    Actually in iPhone :
Outgoing Mail Server > SMTP "relay.skynet.be"
Primary server > Not Configured > Off
    Thank you ...

When you set them up, did you set up both the incoming and outgoing email servers separately, and did you enter the correct SMTP server name, and enter your userid and password even though it says "optional"?
Something else to try, if you haven't, is delete the accounts, connect the iPhone to iTunes, on the Info tab check the box to sync mail server settings, then sync. This should duplicate the settings from your computer to your iPhone.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • My o2 email will receive, but not send on my ipad

My o2 email will receive, but not send. I've got other email accounts on the ipad & they all work OK. The o2 mail account used to work properly, but I needed to remove the account & since I've put it back on, it won't work on my ipad. Works ok on android mobile phone. I've checked the settings & spoken to o2, but they couldn't solve! It may be since I've joined the cloud? Any advice, gratefully received. Thanks.

Recheck the settings once again.  There is something wrong.  And it seems to happen to O2 people with some regularity.    Google o2 mail settings and you will get a page with the details.  Pay close attention to the port setting, you may need to change it on the pad, and that may be the problem.

  • 5th gen ipod can receive but not send emails

5th gen ipod can receive but not send emails. I have iPad with same settings and no issues. Yet, I keep getting "cannot send mail" the user name or password for "[email protected]" is incorrect. Please assist. I am not running both accounts simultaneously

    See:
iOS: Unable to send or receive email
    Did it work before?
I suspect a error in the settings for the outgoing mail server.
