[Embarassingly Solved By Myself] Installing HP Printer

I haven't had trouble with connecting a printer in awhile (mostly because I havent used my printer in about 9 months) but Ive been trying to get it to work for the past few days and cups acts like everything works correctly but a page never gets printed. Thinking that the problem may have been my tweaked rc.conf i replaced it with the original one and rebooted, in the print manager it showed that a job was queued (since I had just sent one before) and it wouldnt let me do anything with it.
I decided to remove the printer config and reinstall it. Using KDE system settings to install it is slightly confusing (compared to the one in 3.5 atleast) since it only offers the options of new network printer and new printer class under the New Printer group and my printer is connected via usb. I found out before that clicking on the new network printer allowed me to install a local printer but now I cant remember how I did it. Under new network printer I have the following groups: CUPS-PDF,AppSocket/HP JetDirect, Internet Printing Protocol,LPD/LPR Host or Printer, Windows Printer via SAMBA, and other. I have no idea which one to use.
I looked up cups in the wiki and it suggests that you use the web interface to config cups so I tried that also and under adding printers or classes I selected add printer and selected HP Printer (HPLIP) under local printer then hit continue. In the connection field it says "hp" and if I hit continue it doesnt do anything. Im assuming it wants the address of the printer (I remember seeing it before as usb://[address]) but I have no idea what it is.

mine doesnt even show up in dmesg when I turn it on, nor is it in /dev/usb. I probably should have mentioned this before but its an HP All In One Deskjet 1610.

Edit: I booted into another install of Chakra that I have that I was using for testing stuff and its pretty clean compared to my other install. I noticed these errors appeared in both of the dmesg logs:
Buffer I/O error on device sr1, logical block 178507
sr 5:0:0:0: [sr1] Unhandled sense code
sr 5:0:0:0: [sr1] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08

end_request: I/O error, dev sr1, sector 1428056
Buffer I/O error on device sr1, logical block 178507
Could this be the printer?
This install of chakra has cups 1.3.11 installed and it cant find the printer either nor can kde systemsettings.
Edit 2: I was going to try and test it out in windows 7 to see if it works but I cant install the drivers since they are for the offical release version (build 7600) and Im still running RC1 (build 7100)

  • I could not install my printer Deskjet 2060 after purchasing a new laptop

I am trying to install my deskjet 2060 to my new laptop but could not find the software to install.

    Hi ,
You should have the HP Scan software also installed, when you installed the printer software and driver.
If you are having issues with running the HP Scan software, let me know what error you get.
As an alternate, there are two apps availabe on Windows Store, called Windows Scan and HP Scan and Capture that you can use to scan.
    1. Search Windows for Scan and click the Scan app () in the list of results.
    2. HP Scan and Capture - this doc should help http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04675206

  • How do I install a printer?

yes I know it sounds like an idiotic question; please bear with me. I have a relatively modern (<1 year old) business colour laserjet (Kyocera Mita Ecosys FS-C5025N) which is connected to my home network via wired ethernet. My MBP is also connected to my network via wired ethernet. My problem is that having once installed my printer (and had it working) I had to turn the printer off to clear a job and now my MBP won't communicate with it.
When I turned it off and on again, the DHCP on my network gave my printer a new address (192.168.1.5 instead of 192.168.1.19). So I'm guessing that OS X has 'lost' it in some way. My solution was to go into System Preferences, Print and Fax, and delete the printer, with the expectation of being able to reinstall it. however, the problem is that when I click '+' in Print and Fax to add a printer, my K-M printer is nowhere to be found (when I installed it the first time, OS X found the printer automatically and I just selected it).
So how can I find/install this printer again? When I click the + in Print & Fax now I am presented with 4 options, default, Fax, IP and Windows. If I select IP and put in 192.168.1.5 under 'Address' (using all other default options, protocol = Line printer Daemon LPD, etc) it finds the printer. However, once installed, when I check the printer out, I see a yellow 'attention triangle' with the message 'this printer was not installed properly'.
I thought that I would try downloading the driver from the Kyocera Mita site. I've done this and installed the printer this way ... it all ran correctly but when I go back into Print & Fax - no printer is to be found? Is there a secret directory somewhere into which I must go and delete something rogue that's gumming up my system?
Any ideas, you gurus out there? Solved Stars await! Please.

Thanks Pahu, much appreciate the input. I'm working through this now and have the following: Apologies for War & Peace - I just wanted to be precise...
Looking up Bonjour I see that it's a 'IP protocol to allow devices to automatically discover each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers'. When I set up the printer the first time, I do recall OS X finding it and the word Bonjour was there (I just didn't know what it meant). So I'm guessing that the printer must have had the right responder settings for it to work. It's just this time round it's not finding it. Nothing has changed on the printer end (apart from switch-off, switch-on). Hence, as I've come from 20+ years in Windows, I know that sometimes you have to delete registry entries to clear a problem before reinstalling a device, I wondered if there was a similar Apple procedure?
Looking at the manual, I see that the printer is PCL6 and Postscript3 compatible with auto emulation sensing. So I've set up the first test to be as an IP printer, LPD, inputting the address 192.168.1.5 in the Address field, and using the generic PCL driver as you suggest. When I click Add, I don't see any options but I guess that's because of the generic driver. The printer now appears in my Print & Fax box, but when I double click it I see a new box which says that the printer software was installed incorrectly, please re-install. Despite this, I can print to it (I tested from within Word). But I have no advanced options.
I would like to set up a second test using the Kyocera printer driver (using the generic PCL driver doesn't give me any printer options). I have downloaded this one here http://usa.kyoceramita.com/americas/jsp/Kyocera/download_center.jsp?pid=16744&pc at=10563&rcid=10009&rscid=10007#bottom, selecting the 'Kyocera Mita OSX 10.4 & 10.5 installer v 1.0' and the 'Kyocera Mita OSX 10.6 Permissions Fix' as you suggest in your reply. The former download a .mpkg.zip file which I extracted (53 items) using zipeg. When I ran the file it said that it was an installer for the printer, and completed successfully. When I checked in Print & Fax, clicked the +, there was no KM-printer installed (under default). This is consistent with the blurb about the permissions fix, which should fix this I guess?
So I then downloaded and unzipped the Permissions Fix, which put a folder (containing a file called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution.command) on my desktop. When I try to run this I receive the message 'this file could not be executed because you do not have the appropriate access privileges'. I'm the only user on my MBP with full privilege? When I checked through Finder, Get Info I have Read & Write access for this file.
There is a PDF which I've found to install this file. It says
Follow the Installation Instructions below to install the MAC 10.6 PPD Patch. The Patch will allow a new Kyocera Printer to be added.
Subject: 10.6 PPD File Patch Installation Instructions
On KMAconnect Download and run the OSX 10.4 & 10.5 Installer. (DONE)
Download the OSX10.6 permissionfix.zip file to your Mac running OSX 10.6.(DONE)
Double click the zip file to extract the contents to the desktop folder. (DONE)
Double click the file called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution. A Terminal window will open. (NO IT DOESN'T, I GET THE ERROR MESSAGE ABOVE)
Key in the password for the (Root) Administrator when prompted for the changes to take affect. (CAN'T DO THIS DUE TO ERROR MESSAGE ABOVE...)
Note: When keying in the Administrator Password, the Terminal window will keep the Password Masked so it will not display any change in the window when the characters are being input. If there is no password assigned, one must be created before running the OSX10.6 solution file.
You can now add a Kyocera Printer in the normal manner.
Any thoughts on how I can run this file?
I don't know if it matters but the PDF says the file in the Permissions Fix is called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution but it's actually called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution.command ...?

  • I am having problem with trying to install the printer with wireless connection.i have windows 7

the blue light on top of the printer blinks very fast and intermitenly.  i cannot install the printer with wireless.  I tried with the CD that came with the printer but the green install bar just stops and freezes.  I have a 4 month old Dell laptop.  Printer just purchased from HP is Laser Jet Professional P1102w.

Are there any third party firewalls installed (e.g. Kaspersky, Norton, BitDefender, etc.)?  It sounds like something is blocking the software and third party firewalls have been known to block communication with the printer.
How far in the installation process do you get (what options are you able to get to)?
Is the USB cable connected at the start of the installation?
Do you receive any errors at all?  If so, what are they?
Have you tried using Smart Install?  Smart Install works by connecting the USB cable to the computer.  By default, you should get a prompt to run a file.  Running this file starts the Smart Install process.
This video is a good guide to Smart Install.

  • Problem with Printer Utility Setup when installing Epson printer

    Hi everyone,
Hope some kind soul here can help me out on this.
I bought a Epson Stylus CX7300 All-in-one printer yesterday and am having difficulty installing the printer driver onto my eMac running on OSX 10.3.9.
I followed the procedure on the Epson installation disc and even called up their customer support office and went through step-by-step guides to troublesome the cause. Even downloaded the latest driver from the Epson site, and installed it, but every time I open up a document and tries to print, the following would occur:
    1. When I click "PRINT", a pop-up will appear, and under the printer field, it will be indicated as "NO PRINTER SELECTED"
    2. I would then select "EDIT PRINTER LIST" from the printer field - after which another pop-up will appear saying "You have no printers available. Would you like to add your list of printers now?"
    3. When I click "ADD", an error pop-up will appear saying "The application Printer Setup Utility has unexpectedly quit. The system and other applications have not been affected. Would you like to submit a bug report to Apple?"
I have submitted tonnes of "bug reports" to Apple since yesterday but nothing happened.
I also tried to open Printer Utility Setup directly from under System/Applications/Utilities, but the same error will appear and it will just quit "unexpectedly".
Is there any remedy to this?
Oh, the strange thing is, the CX7300 can scan images fine, and I also managed to do a test print from Epson's utility.
    Thank you.
    Yours Sincerely,
    Alvinology

Hi, I was just about to post the same question myself. I'm trying to sort out a friends iMac G5 with a Canon Pixma(?) printer. In this case the printer used to work OK, but after moving house and setting it up again, Print Utility crashes every time when trying to add the printer.
    Thanks

    Hi @lellery,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are trying to install your HP Officejet 4500 G510n printer on Windows 8. I am happy to help!
A couple questions for you, if you do not mind:
How is the printer connected? Wireless or USB?
What happened when you tried to install the printer? Did you see any error messages?
Have you gone through the hardware setup of the printer already?
Once I know this information, I will be happy to do some further research for you!

  • I want to uninstall the c4580 completely so as I can install another printer. it won't go

I've tried everything to uninstall the c4580 all in one printer and software. Control Panel won't do it, Uninstall on installation disc won't do it. Deleting folders on the laptop for HP won't do it. Have Vista home Basic. Want to install a new wireless all-in-one B110 series. If I install new printer will the other go. Please help. Have managed to remove the c4580 from Xp and 7 laptops and from a Vista Home Premium computer, but it will not budge from this laptop.

Put the installation CD in the drive and navigate to the util/CCC directory.  Look for files uninstall_L1.bat through uninstall_L4.bat.
Run uninstall_L1.bat, then uninstall_L2.bat and uninstall_L3.bat.  You may need to reboot your computer, follow the instructions provided as the uninstall runs.  It is not recommended to run uninstall_L4.bat as it may remove items your computer needs, especially if you have an HP computer.

  • Continuous error beep/alarm after installing USB printer

Anyone have any experience with a continuous disabling/enabling of a USB device (in this case a printer) after installing on an X201 running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit?  Printer (older HP 2420) installs as expected in Win 7 and test page prints as desired.  Shortly thereafter the device seems to drop/readd continuously, and the only way to fix is to unplug the device.
    Any assistance?  Thanks.

I think I understand what you are trying to do now.  How are you trying to install the printer software (download from website or software disc that came with the printer)?
Are you certain your USB cord is working?
Is your XP computer compatible with the Belkin switch?
Does your switch require software installation as well?
I think your error about the USB device not being recognized sounds more like a computer/Windows error message such as the Belkin device itself is not recognized by the XP computer because that is not the same words used when the printer is not recognized.  I don't want to refer you back to Belkin so I will do my best to assist you but I can only hope I can fix this because this is what I call out-of-scope for me and do not have any formal training on your method.  Maybe I can come up with a work-around instead.  Answer my questions please while I think of perhaps another configuration of these devices more suitable for you.

    Hi Jaime,
What you can do is go to the Support and Drivers Area of the Hp website by following the link http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
    - just type in the Version of of the Photosmart you have, and then follow that by the Version of the MAC OS that you are running
    - you will want to do this from the computer you are wanting to install the printer on.
simply download the Driver and Install and that Should Assist you in getting that printer set up on that computer as if it was coming from the Disk itself

My dad gave me the above printer  but I am having difficulty installing it, can anyone help?
One problem I have is I can't seem to find the product no.  I found the serial no okay, under that
there is FPU No. but that doesn't match with the amount of letter/numbers it should be.
My dad also installed it to his computer and it is saying the claim no is no longer valid.
    HELP  computer dunce!!!!

    Welcome to the community, @suzep
You do not need the FPU number to install the printer. The FPU is normally on the backside of the printer by the serial number.
I will certainly do my best to help you along with the installation of your Envy 4500! Please let me know some more information and from there I should be able to guide you through the installation with troubleshooting links.
    I would like to know:
Which Operating System you are running.
Which Windows Operating System am I running?
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
How do you want the printer connected?
    Wireless, Ethernet or USB?
Have you ran the installation? If so, what error did you see or what happened exactly?
