I clicked on something that increased the size of everything on my screen and am unable to figure out how to get the view back to "normal." I know this has to be simple, but I am clueless after going through all sorts of preferences, etc. Please help!

The zoom is "off" in Universal Access.
What is the optimum display resolution for an iMac?
My tool bar is magnified too. I can zoom out for some programs that open, but basically everything is magnified unless I zoom out. Some programs open without a scroll bar, so I cannot go to the bottom of those pages to select or even close the program.

I'm not sure what you're asking here ... positioning a
border? the div
border is always, well, on the perimeter of the div. Do you
want to move one
edge of the div over 10 px? If so (and assuming its the left
border...) ,
try subtracting 10 px from the div width and giving the div a
margin-left of
10px. As for "drag and drop," what are we dragging? What are
we dropping?

can we see the code here? It sounds to me like you're running
into problems
with an element being set to 500px wide and then a browser
window that is
400px wide. A wide img maybe? I'm only guessing at things
without seeing th

Yep. Just make sure they stay relative to each other in the
same way. In
other words, if both your htm file and css file are in the
same folder on
your local machinge then they must remain in the same folder
on your server.
If your css is in a subfolder called "css" then you need to
make sure your
css file is in a similar subfolder on the server

How to add a photo

I have tried to add photos and titles but it does not work. I can only add videos. Is there somebody who has got the same problem and can help me? In imovie09 this was easy, but now I am using my new macbook with imovie11. Is the software installed on my computer corrupt? Should I to reinstall it? Thanks!

I'm in a similar boat. This is the first time I've tried adding a photo to iMovie '11. I'm attempting to do so in the same exact way I used to do it in iMovie '09 (by dragging and dropping it into the project) and while I can see the photo within the project, the photo doesn't display when I play the video. Instead, it takes a freeze frame of the preceding clip or it shows black during that part of the video. I've tried multiple photos. They are coming straight from iPhoto and as I mentioned I am doing this exactly the same way I used to do it in iMovie '09.
I'm horribly frustrated. I made this movie to announce the birth of my son and all I have left to do is add a photo of him to the end. Every time Apple updates their software or (in this case) I buy the latest upgrade, something embarrassingly basic such as this seems to stop working.
Can someone help? With two kids I've got like 12 minutes to do this. It should take 2. My time's already up.

How to put my DVDs in iTunes

This is embarrassingly basic, but I have no idea how to put my DVDs into iTunes. Any instructions?

'Sharing' an iMovie project

An embarrassingly basic question from an iMovie beginner – do I share my project with iDVD or Media Browser in order to burn it to disc? Help-wise, it seems to fall down the crack between iMovie and iDVD, and I can't find the answer!

SHARE TO iDVD works only for DV and Apple Intermediate Codec (which were usually AVCHD in the camera).
Anything else should go to the Media Browser. DV and Apple Intermediate Codec files can also go to the Media Browser, and most people prefer this, because the report better results, and this allows you to have multiple movies on one DVD.
In my opinion, the option to send directly to iDVD as AIC or DV was added in response to customer beliefs that sending DV, for example, would save a compression step and therefor produce better results. However, iMovie has to render even DV to DV and AIC to AIC so this is not really an advantage.

Two separate Macs - transfer CS2 photos to CS4 via CD?

A very (embarrassingly) basic question, but a bit different than any previously asked (I think - have searched for hours) -
Computer #1 - only has CS2, cannot be upgraded, not online
Computer #2 - will have CS4
(The computers are not connected) Can you burn CS2 Photoshop files to a CD on the first computer, insert that disc into the second computer, and open the files in CS4?
Please forgive the dumbness of the question, but your answer will determine if I can proceed. Thank you so much in advance.

If I create files in PS CS2 on one Mac (saved as CS2), can I burn them (the created files) to a CD and open them in CS4 on another Mac.
Edit: oops! I type very slowly, and you answered in the meantime, Michael. Thank you, but does that mean that CS4 can open CS2 images that are opened from the desktop, not directly imported from CS2? (if I'm using the right terms)

Hey I'm kind of last century, 1st IPOD. I downloaded tunes to a folder, now how do I put them in my IPOD? It's not like some helpful screen pops up when I connect the IPOD. Help?

You open iTunes. In the sidebar, select Music under LIBRARY. Drag and drop the folder with the actual music files onto the large pane of the iTunes window, which represents your main iTunes library. You can also drag and drop individual files instead of the entire folder.
Depending on your settings in preferences, iTunes will organize the files by artist and album, and do other things like download album covers.

Basic (almost embarrassing!) Time Machine question

Hello. This is probably a no-brainer for most folks on this discussion board, but ... do I need to have my external hard drive "open and running" (i.e, on my desktop or in the finder sidebar) for Time Machine to function or can it be ejected with TM opening it as needed on it's own schedule?

TM won't mount it. Using an external drive, TM will do hourly backups as long as the Mac is awake and the drive is mounted. So most folks just leave it mounted.
The alternative would be wireless backups, via a Time Capsule or USB drive attached to an Airport Extreme, or an external disk on another Mac running Leopard that you can share over a local network.

Is there a basic organizational unit in Aperture?

I know this is an embarrassingly newbie kind of question, but I imported my iPhoto library to Aperture over a year ago and I feel less organized than I was in iPhoto. I have 2 big folders filled with what looks like a combination of "Project" icons and "Album" icons that seem to duplicate each other. I would really like to get in an reorganize everything, but I'm not clear about what I can and cannot delete. I don't want to delete the master images.
For you guys who really use this as it was intended, what would a well organized library look like and how do I get it there without deleting the wrong things. I know there are books on this and I have read three of them, but I still don't get this basic question.

I'm a newcomer to Aperture, so I'm no expert. But for one thing, I used Derrick's Story advise: I did not import my whole iPhoto library into Aperture with the default Aperture method. I am presently importing my iPhoto library album per album, and as I learn more about the Aperture way, I'm doing some changes along the way of my initial thought.
So, what I'm trying to do is more like, create a project per event, and I classify projects within blue folders by master category. How that looks like? here is an example:
blue folder: Personal pictures and it contains:
Project Family reunion x
Project Family reunion y
Project My house pictures
etc
And within each projects I can create smart album, books, etc as I want.
I also have a master classification blue folder that have many smarts album in it splited again per category. For exemple, I have a blue folder named "Lens" with smart albums with the EXIF data for each of my lenses in my bag. So if I'm searching an example of a picture I took with my Tokina 11-16 mm, is it easy to find one.
But you have to find the way that best suits your workflow.

Any hope for quality basic phones?

I'm out of contract, just got done browsing for a basic replacement phone and am disappointed with the current offerings. I feel that was marketing and intended. I've been a Verizon Wireless customer since 2001 and I was grandfathered in once they bought Alltel. I like to use Verizon because I get good reception in my area on their voice network and many of my family and friends use the service, so we have free mobile-to-mobile calls and texts. I say free, but I consider it a bargaining chip that came as part of the fee in the plan that I pay for every month.
I do not want a "smart phone" my lifestyle doesn't need or desire it. I have computers at work and home and all my typical haunts, I don't want to carry around an additional Internet device in my pocket (yes I know basic phones can access the net too in a limited way, for a premium). Being constantly online isn't desirable to me. I don't want to be GPS tracked, or browse the Internet on a tiny little phone screen. I like my old voice and text plan, the price is right. I'm not inclined to pay at least an extra $30/month to start a service that I don't want and just open the door for data overage fees - Just to have a decent phone! It's a despicable and ethically embarrassing corporate strategy.
So without getting into the profit motivations for phasing out basic service plans by only offering smartphones, why can't we have:
Long battery life
modern tablet style ergonomics
decent reliable OS
possible wi-fi if desired
Good camera and flash
rugged enough to last at least the duration of a 2-year contract with normal wear
Good sound quality and antenna
Technologically we already nailed it, have been there a long time but instead you try to force us to commit to these expensive bells and whistles many of us don't need or request. In this day and age I feel that basic phone service is a need, so why not do it right and excel at it? You probably don't make as much money off of it, but I'm still happy to pay like I have been if you would just sell a reasonable device for me to use. I'm tired of being made to feel like a second class citizen in the Verizon store with my old flip phone because I just want options, and my requests are fundamental, only basic service and good performance with my phone.

I don't buy this supply side excuse. All these phones are useless without a service provider. Most are locked to providers. The manufacturers sell what the buyers want and the real buyers are the carriers, who then resell to the consumer. The carriers want to pay the leases on their new networks and maximize profits, so they need data plans. Many consumers want these features and many do not (jaymeson). My gripe is with the quality of Verizon's non-data plan phones sliding backwards...
In my business, satisfied repeat customers are the majority of clients. Did Verizon not make profit before the smartphone hype? Verizon is diversified and very large, they tend to trample the individual consumer and it's their way or the highway. I had an experience in what was called a "corporate" verizon store yesterday. I wanted to evaluate my plan and make sure they had count my promotional minutes. The new alert system I learned is based off only your plan minutes and so before knowing that I got nervous when texts came in that said that I was reaching my allotment early. I thought they dropped my promo. I went into the store to sort this out face-to-face. It was quiet, there were three salesmen standing in the corner twisting their thumbs and doing nothing while I waited half an hour to be seen by someone. After authenticating me with my account, supposedly they couldn't pull my plan up on their computer and rudely kept pounding the mantra that I had to call customer service! Total waste of my time.
I've ended up ditching Verizon and ordering a nice new out-of-contract smartphone (best bang for buck feature-wise) and it should be here in a couple days. I'm activating on a different network, not as expensive or fast, but I don't need the download speed perks and will block most of it. The prepaid as suggested by Weth provides the freedom that I want. I'm only remaining on Verizon until I get the new phone in to activate and port over my number. If I like it the business contract phones will follow.
I'm going to consider this thread closed. I learned there is NO hope for quality basic phones on verizon. Thanks for participating.

Embarrassing questions.. :/ Dependent Select Lists

One more embarrassing question to feature my narrow knowledge.
I want to create dependent select lists. Have tried following the procedure as in help:
You can have one LOV drive another LOV by:

Vista Aero Basic = Cursor Lag

I've had a extremely annoying photoshop issue for a very long time. I was hoping CS4 would eliminate this hideous bug but it's made it marginally worst.
My studio makes video games so we often work in 3ds Max 7 & photoshop simultaneously. 3ds Max doesn't work very well with Vista Aero enabled, so those of us with Vista run the Aero Basic scheme.
Photoshop CS3 & CS4 actually run way SLOWER in Aero Basic. You'll see this while zoomed in using the airbush. Even the cursor jumps across the screen without any tool being in use. If i change my cursor to 'standard' or 'precise' in the preferences the lag will go away.
There must be many others that have noticed this problem. Has it not been fixed because its not possible? No one figured out what causes it? Many users that want maximum performance out of their workstations will disable aero. I'm sure this is embarrassing for adobe because it effects very high end machines.
Please Adobe, fix this bug.
Running in full Aero Mode is VERY smooth but I cannot use that because i need Max running too.
I'm running on a Nvidia 9800GTX. Same problems on other earlier Nvidia cards too. No ATIs here.

Few games companies can afford to recompile plugins every time a new version of Max is released. Especially since in recent years Max hasn't provided significant features worth upgrading for.
Many games studios are still using older versions of Max; admittedly most are also still using XP. PS cursor problems are one of the reasons.
With all the bloated features added to PS over the years, this seems like a simple & important fix. It effects CS2, CS3 & CS4. Alot of our guys still use CS1 because the more recent PS versions are considered bloated & laggy.
Maybe a 'light' power user version for the furture is something to think about. CS4 is several GBs of god knows what. The Gimp is 25meg & improving.
I'm sure we don't need GBs of bloat & services forced upon us.

Lack of basic mobile phone functions

OK, so I'm a Mac junkie. I got 6 iPods, and 5 macs (god only knows how many macs I've bought in my life) so I'm a lover not a hater, but I've just got home with my brand new (UK) iPhone and I'm stunned at how basic a phone it is. Ok, so the web browser is great and it's a nice iPod bit it's called an i"PHONE" and it can't touch my 2 year old Nokia 6680!! I'm gonna be embarrassed demoing it to my friends. Can't even send all my friends my new iPhone mobile number without retyping the same message every time!! Come on, bulk sms is child's play!! And I can't bluetooth my photo's of my kids from my old phone to my new one? I thought apple were all iFamily friendly? This is basic stuff. Can't text someone a photo? Come on MMS has been around for years! No where to put files !! 8GB and I don't have access to an area to store files! What if I want a pdf on my phone or a word doc or an image that is not a photo or for use in my photo library (logos etc) Even an iPod can have an area used to store files!!
Waited three years from the start of the rumours to buying an iPhone and right now Apple have never dissappointed me more. My mobile bill has just gone from £10 per month for 300 mins and 300 texts (Virgin) to £35 for 200 mins and 200 texts, just to get this phone and it's looking like I'm gonna have to keep the Nokia to use as a Phone and use the iPhone as an iPod. Will they trade it for an iPod Touch and cancel the mobile contract to ya think?

To those who said tell Apple - that was the first thing I did. My post was a copy of what I sent them. To those that said the features were well documented. Yes, the features were. The lack of basic features was not. Apple certainly don't publicize it! Maybe I should not "assume" they would include such basic stuff as I have complained about but if I'd installed leopard and it didn't have textedit included or it couldn't copy from one drive to another or some other basic feature, everyone would think it ok to mention it. To those who suggest I take it back and cancel my contract, that's 1 of the two possibilities I'm seriously considering right now. To those who point out that Apple may well update and the iPhone will eventually live up to it's name, well that's the other possibility I'm considering and the one I hope for most!
I'm an Apple junkie because they so rarely let me down and I hope that on this occasion they will realise that they have performed below par in the phone functions and address it. I sincerely hope this is the case 'cause it's basically a nice little gadget.
Please don't suggest that one should not come to an Apple Forum to address complaints about an Apple product. It's without doubt the best place to do it. I'm not running down the company or their methods. design practices or standards. Just the specific lack of features in these area. If enough people "winge" about them here then they will be high on Apple's list of things to address. If the only posts here are ones asking if they come in different colours....
Here's hoping for a great future for the iPhone. Rant finished. Now I'll go load Logic Pro 8 (despite it's numerous bugs I've already politely noted in a mail to Apple that mostly mentioned what a GREAT update it was) on my old G5 which I will happily change for a 8 core Mac Pro as soon as the Penryn equipped models are announced. I'm typing on my old Domed iMac that needs replacing for one of those sexy new Aluminium ones' cause I can't be bothered to go power up my Mac Book (on which Leopard is running beautifully).
My point is (again) I love Apple so don't jump to their defence, that's my job, but when they fail to exceed they can not fix, what they don't know we are unsatisfied with and here is the place to talk about it.
I've noticed lots of posts about texting to multiple recipients and a far few about picture messaging so I guess they may be things we'll see soon. But please Apple, some file management and the some proper Bluetooth implementation!!

Networking basics: any vids/tutorials out there?

Hello everyone,
I'm very sorry for this really basic question. I dont want to waste anyones time explaining networking to me as I'm sure this has already be done somewhere; thus my request for tutorials or videos that show how this is done. I've heard its really easy in OSX, so I'm already kind of embarrassed asking this.
Anyone have any good links for setting up a file sharing network? Our family has 6 macs, and all hooked up to the internet via airport. What we are looking to do though is to be able to have access to each others computers in order to quickly share files, etc. Also, since I'm asking, is it possible to remote control a mac from another mac? i.e. open a program on our mac mini from my G5? I know this is possible in Leopard, but am unsure if this is possible in Tiger.
Once again, I'm sorry for asking such a simple question, but I'm sure once I get pointed in the right direction I'll put the tai on the donkey! Thanks!!
p.s. are there any security measures I need to take to make sure the network is only accessable by our family, and not others? Thanks again!

But really, all you need to do is go to the Sharing Pref Pane on each, enable Personal File Sharing on each, wait a bit, then go to Finder>go menu>Connect to Servers, then either Browse or simply enter...

Really need help with basic static forms?!?!

I was thrown into creating forms for our Business Managers and I am not a developer in any way! I am a Recruiter, but somewhat tech savvy (or at least I thought I was).
I am trying to create basic static forms. I started by using Adobe Professional and them moved to LiveCycle Designer because of what I thought were better "editable" options when creating the form. I want to be able to send my manager's forms via e-mail (PDF), they can enter the requesting information in the fields, save a copy for themselves, print, and e-mail to me. We are not using any of the Adobe Server things, I don't want them to submit via an e-mail button on the form. We are a non-profit organization and my managers are using all different versions of reader.
I am getting extremely frustrated because in testing the form everything seems to be working properly including tab order, print, save and everything I want it to do. Then, I send them out for my managers to use, for some Manager's they work great, no problems at all! But then, I keep getting these weird issues from different Managers with the same form. For one of them, what they typed in the field, now looks like it's behind the text box, like when you select Highlight all, you can see what he typed, but then if you click into the text box, you can see what he typed. Another Manager said, two (crucial) fields would not show the text entered when she tries to save or print, but on screen you can see it????
So after the rambling, I guess my questions are: should I be using Live Cycle to create such basic forms or should I be using Adobe? Can anyone recommend a good "FOR DUMMIES" book that will help me figure out what I am doing wrong, and not explain in "IT" language?

1. Make sure to set the PDF target version. Goto File -> Form Properties (see the first screenshot attached)
     Find out the minimum Reader version used in your organization and set this value accordingly. If you are not sure, select the least recent version.
2. two (crucial) fields would not show the text entered when she tries to save or print, but on screen you can see it
     This may be due to the visibility settings of the fields. Just make sure that you have selected visible instead of visible (screen only)
