  • CP8 - How to embed a pdf into a captivate slide (for LMS publication)?

    Hi,
How to embed a pdf into a captivate slide (for LMS publication)?
    WebObject doesn't work...
    Thanks

I accomplished this by publishing my PDF to a directory I called "PDFWebObjectEmbedFiles" on my webserver outside of where my published project lives.
For example...the PDF to embed lived at:
    http://mydomain.com/PDFWebObjectEmbedFiles/file_name_of_PDF_to_embed.pdf
Then I went inside of Captivate and inserted the Web Object widget.  I put the URL to my PDF inside the widget.  Then it loads perfectly with no problem.
    Hope this helps.

    Just use Drop Box instead.

  • To store PDF into BLOB and retrieve into OLE/OCX

    We would like to:
    1. Store a PDF file (output of a report saved in file server) into a BLOB
    column.
    2. Retrieve previously stored PDF in the BLOB column and display using either
OLE automation or ActiveX (OCX) control.
I read all related documents in metalink that addresses this issue however cant
get this to work. We have Acrobat Reader 4.0. Here are some issues from the
    tests that I did:
    1. To load the PDF file the program code that uses BFILE and LOADFROMFILE does
not work since the database is on a remote server and the PDF file is on a
local file server. The DIRECTORY created on the database is unable to find the
    PDF file.
    2. Though I want the loading of the file to be programmatic, I tried
right-click on the OLE container and inserted object from file. This loaded the
file into the container (Icon on the container appeared) however I was not able
to view the document by double-clicking. An error in Adobe occured: 'There was
an error opening this document. A file read error occured'. My guess is the
'Insert Object' did not insert the file properly into the BLOB.
    3. When trying to display the PDF file stored in file server (in case storing
into BLOB does not work), I used an OCX control, right-clicked and Insert
Object and select Adobe Control for ActiveX. The problem here is when I run the
form, the OCX control shows up empty and I have to 'Insert Object' again in
runtime. Once I manually insert object from runtime the GET_INTERFACE POINTER &
SET_PROPERTY works fine is displaying the document. Is there any way to
maintain the control property of the OCX when the form is run?
    4. Are there any workarounds and better solution to store PDFs into BLOBs and
retrieve and display in OLE/OCX controls? Using temporary file into local drive
    is not an issue.
    5. Would I be able to make use of 'PDF.PdfCtrl.1' OLE class?
    6. Does OLE automation work for Acrobat Reader 4.0.?
I would appreciate all the help.

Im facing a similar kind of problem. I want to store and retrieve Office files, PDF and Jpegs into/from the database to view them on web in disconnected mode. Please reply as I cant find any help/documentation regarding saving BLOB data into files. I was able to store file data into BLOB, using DBMS_LOB package.

  • Acrobat 5 - Placing PDF into inDesign and Output to Colour Separations are Wrong

Acrobat 5 - Placing PDF into inDesign and Output to Colour Separations are Wrong
I have a 2 Page PDF file from my client which I have to have setup 2UP on 450x320 for Metal Plates for the Press.
I setup my page size in inDesign and Placed each page from the PDF file into the inDesign Document.
Because I need 4 Metal plates (CMYK) I had to check the Colour Seperations for the file by outputting it to a Postscript file with CMYK SEPS and then using Adobe Distiller to turn it into a PDF file for me to view the Seperations.
As I've shown in the screen shot below. The CYAN plate has boxes all around the images in the PDF file which will come out on a Metal Plate.
Compared to the Colour version of the Client's PDF they supplied me, there is no boxes around the images.
I know this is a error with dropping a PDF file into inDesign, outputting to a PS file and then Distilling it to the SEPS. I've had the same problem when I've opened a PDF file that has been distilled in Illustrator and the Artwork is sliced into pieces and uneditable.
Has anyone else found this problem and if so is there a workaround?
I'm using Adobe inDesign CS and Adobe Acrobat Professional Version 5.

  • Can you embed a PDF into a Captivate 8 project?

    Hi,
Can you embed a PDF document into a captivate project?
I know i shouldnt compare, but in Articulate Story Line, you are able to add 'resourses' into the project which sit alongside the eLearning to provide further reading.
Can you do this in Captivate? but without it linking to an external sourse such as local or shared drive?
    Thanks
    Chris

    To tmpe222,
I'm not a Cp expert, but it seems to me that there's no sense in simply trying to stick a pdf document in the Scorm package. What good would that do? The file would be in the package, but that doesn't mean it would be 'embedded in the project' in any meaningful sense of the term.
I don't know of any way to embed a pdf document directly into a Cp project. But couldn't you simply convert the pdf file into an image (jpeg or gif)? This you could easily insert in your project. It would be inserted as a standard object. And then you could do all the nice things that you can do with any object: put it on slide to be accessed only if the participant wants to view it; use effects so that it enters nicely; add annotation . . . the sky's the limit.
Does this help at all, or am I on the wrong track?

  • How to embed 3d pdf into 2d pdf?

I created a 3d pdf (outside of Acrobat) and would like to embed this file into a 2d pdf using Acrobat X. When I add Multimedia > 3D object and try to insert the 3d pdf file, Acrobat says that the file is not a supported file type. Is there a way to embed this directly (so the model can be seen when the 2d pdf is opened), rather than as an attached file or link? I would like to avoid using an U3D file, as the file became very large and responds slowly to commands.

    All you need is Acrobat.
If you want to copy the entire page from the 3D PDF to the 2D PDF, open the page thumbnails sidebar in the 2D PDF, and from the options dropdown menu choose Insert Pages > From File. Pick your 3D PDF and choose where you want the page to be inserted. You can also open both files in separate windows, and drag the page thumbnails from one to the other (not the pages, the thumbnails).
If you want to copy just the 3D annotation, open both files in separate windows, and open the Tools Pane > Content Panel in both so you can activate the "select object" tool - the big black arrow. Click the 3D annotation to select it, then choose edit>Copy (Ctrl-C), then in the destination PDF file choose Edit>Paste (Ctrl-V). You can move and resize the annotation while you have the select object tool enabled, and any embedded 3D scripts, views, poster images etc will be preserved.
The only thing you may find is if the source and destination pages are in different orientations, copy/paste may rotate the poster image. To fix that, right-click the pasted annotation and choose Properties, then re-create the poster image.

  • Cannot embed 3D PDF into powerpoint 2007

    Hello:
I can't embed 3D model from .pdf file into powerpoint 2007.
Followed all instructions, the 3D model is captured from VMD program using acrobat 3d 8.0,
it is saved automatically as .pdf file,
it is able to open and rotate in the acrobat reader,
then in powerpoint 2007, when i want to embed it,
i click the embed 3D button, the add 3d data window appear,
but in the file selection, the .pdf file is not supported.
only those .u3d, .cad, ... are supported, and i tried these, they can be embeded.
but i am confused, how can i really embed the .pdf file to powerpoint?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for both of your help.
I am still not quite understand how the OCX means.
Does it mean the "embed 3D" button appeared in powerpoint or some other kind of software?
Currently what I did is export the 3d model in the .pdf to a .u3d file.
then I can choose the .u3d file and embed it since this format is supported. And I can rotate it in powerpoint. But the only problem is it's now in perspective view and I cannot change it to orthographic view inside the powerpoint.
Even in the .pdf I set the default view to orthographic, the exported and embeded is still perspective.
So is there any way to export it as orthographic model?

  • Open Photoshop image from PDF into Photoshop and change cmyk text to 100% black

when I have a supplied PDF file that has cmyk text, I open the image in Photoshop but I don't know how to change the cmyk text (some very small and some large) to 100% Black. I used to know the short cut key to do this but I can't remember. I used to use the marque tool then use a short cut key that would knock the cmy out of the k. Can some one please tell me how I can achieve this in a flattened photoshop file opened from PDF into Photoshop. Thanks

    One way to do this:
Use a hue/saturation adjustment layer, click the Colorize box and drag the Lightness slider to -100. The black will go to C:0, M:0 Y:0, K:100. I'm not aware of a shortcut for this, perhaps someone more informed could help there. You would only want to apply it to the text, clipped to a separate text layer ideally, but if your file is already flattened you could apply it via a selection/masking.

  • Problems Importing pdfs into iBook and sync to iPad air 2

Is there a solution to what appears to be a widespread problem within the community? That of not being able to import books in pdf form into iBooks and subsequently syncing with an iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.1. This seems to be specific to pdfs not 'purchased' from iTunes. In the past I have had all my software manuals available on my iPad, synced with my iMac, all working happily and would dearly love to return this situation.
I then upgraded to iOS 8. Big mistake. iTunes on the iMac (OS 10.6.8) does not sync pdfs to new iPad.
Try syncing from MacBookPro (OS 10.10) still no luck.
There are suggestions to use iTunes, but there is no longer an option to view 'Books' in iTunes.
Can anybody offer a work around until such times as the collective 'apple digit' is removed and a not so 'minor bug' is fixed?
Are Apple working on this problem or even aware of it?

Have you tried the shortcut to add books/pdfs Command Shift O?
Command Shift O is not available in iBooks (Greyed Out)
Command Shift in Finder shortcuts to Documents
Maybe I didn't explain myself very well earlier. When I am working in iBooks, having control clicked multiple files and selected 'Open With iBooks' to get the pdfs into iBooks, (as per your suggestion) a click on a pdf icon initiates nothing, a double click causes the pdf to open in Preview. This I can achieve from the Finder.
The reason I haven't tried to sync from the MBP is that I rely on iPad iBooks as a reference source. At the moment it is working but not the way I want it to (Sync via iMac 10.8.6). When Ibooks on the MBP is finally OK, then I will try.
    Thanks for hanging in there.

  • Inserting a variable value from querystring into captivate and out again

I am using Captivate 4 on a server that uses ASP and I use FrontPage to write my ASP pages.
I have a database built and hosted at the same location as my captivate file.  I used to launch my captivate and then have the user continue to a form page, enter their information and submit to the database.  This all worked great.
Now I need to capture completion of several captivate files (modules).  So I want an ASP page that allows the user to see what modules are done (I use a request form to search my database).  It works great.  It comes back and tells the user what needs to be taken.  They, on that same page, can then select the module to complete next (I have the request querystring added to the URL that launchs the captivate file (I changed it from a html page to an asp page).
It launches fine but I can't figure out how to get that request querystring into captivate as my variable value.  question 1
Then after that is figured out I need to know how to pass that variable back to an ASP page that will contain form questions that will then travel to the database.  (Thus giving them credit for that module).  question 2
Any help would be great.  I am not very good at code, but trying.  My database is Access.

So you want to pass some data into Captivate? This can be achieved with a Flash Widget and FlashVars. Basically you would be able to launch a Captivate project on www.google.com/myProject?myVariable=1 and then get the value of myVariable into a Flash widget. The Flash Widget could then pass this variable into Captivate be populating a custom variable that you have definied within Captivate. From that point on you would be able to use the variable in your Captivate project. Google for Flash Vars to see what can be done with it.
As for the other way around - Captivate sending information to your ASP script - that would also require a widget (or perhaps calling a JavaScript function). From the Flash widget you would be able to pass along data from Captivate to an external script and then use it any way you want.
Hope this points you in the right direction.

  • Captivate 4 publishing for LMS

    Hello,
First, sorry for my bad english : I'm french.
Please  someone can help me : I do not can launch my captivate project on my  LMS : the message written is : The archive is not standard to SCORM 2004  (3rd or 4th ed)
I've already check the folder that content several files but I don't no exactly what kind of files are needed.
I work with captivate 4 and my LMS are MOS and syfadis.
Of course I followed the user guide and I put a cross in "Zip files" and "export html"
I dont no why but I can't attached the pictures with all the files in the zip folder. If necessary, I'll try later.
I think my folder is exported as a courses and not as a resouces. Can I change that with a parameter?
    Thanks in advance

    Nico,
I'm not familiar with your particular LMS but some of these systems that I've worked with allow you to add individual lesson SCORMs as resources similar to adding a PPT deck or a PDF document reference.
For example in another LMS called Moodle, you can create a course in the LMS and then add resources by selecting the resource type from a drop-down.  If you choose SCORM as the resource type, it will ask you to upload the SCORM file.  This will be just a single Captivate lesson packaged as a SCORM.  The LMS will create a link on the course main page that allows the participant to launch the SCORM content and play it in a browser.
You can also create a SCORM course in Moodle.  But this only allows you to upload a Multi-SCO SCORM, in which case all the resource files (e.g. Docs, PDFs, PPTs) must be packaged inside the SCORM zip file.
Check to see if your LMS works in a similar way.  See if under the Resources that you are allowed to add it offers the option to add a SCORM object.  If it does.  Just add individual Captivate SCORMs.
Just thought I'd mention this in case it was useful and allowed you to structure the course in your particular LMS more the way you wanted.

  • How do you embed a pdf into a pdf?

I have a word document, that has files embedded in it. There are excel, word, ppt and pdf files embedded in it. I want to convert the word document to a pdf but want the pdf to contain the embedded docs within it.

PDF files do not support the idea that another document can be embedded within a region of a page - any files embedded into the Word document using the Insert>Object command will appear in the PDF as bitmap images, effectively a screenshot of what you can see in Word. You can attach the files to the PDF once it's created but they will only appear on the attachments side panel.

  • Packaging PDF into Captivate .zip for use in LMS

I found out that if you make a link to a .pdf relative, and copy it into the .zip file going into the LMS, the link will work. However, it forces the student to leave the session when they open the .pdf. Is there any way to open a .pdf in a popup window or player without using a pdf to swf converter? (I tried that, and it only made the .pdf's ugly or not work at all)

I would assume so. But it could be something with ancestry.com. I don't see where any Adobe products come into play here.

  • Trying to paste pdf into mail and keep links active

I've created a pdf in iWork with active links. When I copy and paste it into Mail the links stop working. Anyone know how to keep the links active?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You attach pdfs to email. I have never met a pdf reader that works inside a mail client.
Links, inactive or not, are a separate problem. Under what circumstances do they not work for you?
