Embed a video into InDesign CS 5

I give up. I viewed the Lynda lessons ("that's all you have to do!"), and can't get my video to place without errors in my document. I tried placing it in mpg, mpg2, avi, and flv format. I have the design premium package, but don't know how to use flash. Can someone speak really slowly to me on my level and tell me the steps to place the video? If these formats are not compatible, can someone tell me how to get it correct using the Adobe software.
What I want to do is have the movie play for someone else reading my newsletter with Adobe Reader. Thanks!
Lou

Peter! Thanks so much for responding to  my plight.
What's your OS (probably not a factor, but might be), and are you patched
to 7.0.4?
I  am using Windows 7 in 64 bit mode. What is 7.0.4?
>How are you  making the PDF?
I select export then save as Adobe pdf  (Interactive)
>What settings are you using,
I didn't change any settings. Am I supposed to? I  am using place... from
the file menu then selecting my video. I might get  "import failed" (in the
flv format) or "media files not supported by  flash". Why do I need support
from Flash since I am using Adobe Reader and  InDesign?
When I press continue, it places a cross hatched  box with a film strip
icon in it. I tried to run it in the Preview panel, but  nothing shows there. I
exported it anyway and the pdf file comes up in adobe  reader with a
filmstrip icon again.
>and what happens when you try to play  the video?
I get a yellow band across the top of  the screen that says, "some features
have been disabled to avoid potential  security risks." No matter how many
times, I select "trust this document  always", it keeps coming up. When I
click on the movie icon, with one format I  get just the sound. In another, I
get "Acrobat has encountered an error while playing this  media clip."

  • How To Embed YouTube Videos in InDesign

    First time poster, be gentle!
Anyways, I'm designing an internal newsletter for my company, and one of the feature stores includes talks about one of our clients' videos on YouTube, and I would like to embed that video into my InDesign file.
I followed the instructions at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/6.0/WSC117AD88-69F6-4658-A1F1-12012B15B9D7.htm, and everything seems to be OK until I click the "Verify URL and Movie Size" button. It gives me the error "URL does not refernce a movie type." I am assuming this is because it's a YouTube video and there are problems reading it, but is there any way around this?
    Thanks for your help!

Just wondering if anyone has found a way to embed streaming media content such as youtube, vimeo, or other video provider movies into Indesign? I also need to be able to place streaming audio from an http source.
I want to export my indesign files to flash to create interactivity but really have no idea how to use Flash.
I am not even sure Flash can embed streaming media content from you Youtube or streaming audio content.
I looked into using PDF (via the Youtubewidget and it works great) but the issue I have there is that it's page transitions are very weak visually compared to that of Flash's page turn effect. I found a source for some code which looks Ok but does not compare to Flash. Here is the site link. http://www.coastworx.com/bookflip.php
Is there a way to export from a PDF to Flash and have all the media & links stay intact?
On another note, I did some testing in Indesign CS5. If you try and place a video from a URL it will require that the video start with HTTP or RTMP (for flash media server). I tried using the standard object embed codes from Youtube but it informs you that it is not properly formatted. I even tried to truncate it to start with the HTTP section of the code but it provided me with an error, stating it must start with HTTP or RTMP.
Does anyone know how to accomplish what I am looking to do?
    Thanks in advance...
    Robert

  • What's the easiest way to embed a video into a specific part of an image map?

What's the easiest way to embed a video into a specific part of an image map?
Anybody help? Is there a way to do this in Dreamweaver?

One way would be to create your image map first. Then, use the CSS property position to position the div containing the video player relative to the image map or absolute to the page (depending on how your website layout is).
Then, use an event listener (javascript) to enable the div holding the video player to show only when the specific area on the image map is clicked.

  • Embed Youtube video into Powerpoint?

  • Embed an video into an image

Let start with the simple stuff.
    Operating system is Windows XP
    Photoshop version is CS4 V11
I have been racking my brains trying to figure out how to embed a video file into an image in Photoshop.
GOAL: i have a Jpeg of a TV screen frame. I want to take a YouTube video that i downloaded and place it into this TV screen frame.
After this i want to be able to save it in some way (i suppose save for web devices as a GIF) and then place that picture of a TV screen with a running video into a banner i am creating (like a website signature banner with a running video on the side of it).
All the tutorial videos i have found are from older versions of PS where bridge and ImageReady were all a part of the main program. CS4 is not like that so i cannot figure out how to even get the movies from bridge, or into Photoshop at all since they are two separate programs and i have not found a way to either open it with PS or move it to PS from Bridge.
I have it currently saved in both .mov and .avi file formats as i was not sure which would work (but the tutorial used .mov)
any help would be greatly appreciated.

    It was simply an example.
    1. I can capture the video myself with a capture card of me playing the game if that makes you feel better about it.
    2. And when i said GIF i was refering to an animated GIF.
    3. It is my website so i am pretty sure no one will mind if the file is larger than a normal website signature. We have plenty of bandwidth.

  • How Do You Insert a Video into InDesign CS5.5

What application do you use for making the video?
What are the steps after you make the video to place the video into a web page in InDesign CS5.5?

InDesign cannot place a video into a web page. You might do that in Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe's premiere program for handling HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
InDesign CAN place a video into an interactive PDF file or a SWF (Flash Player) file.
You can create video in many applications including Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, iMovie and many more applications.

  • Captivate Video into Indesign

    Good Morning!
I've been given the task of updating our company's help text from an old school HAT to Adobe Indesign. We decided to go this route because you can make the documents interactive and incorporate video. However, I've looked everywhere and I don't see any tutorials on integrating a Captivate video into your Indesign document. Can anyone here tell me if that's possible and, if so, where I can learn how to make it happen?
    Thanks!
    James

    Hello,
I have tried it once, with InDesign CS5 but because I couldn't get it to be functional, I converted the InDesign document to a PDF and inserted the CP-SWF's in the PDF. That is of course not the same as what you want since you want to have an interactive InDesign doc.
This is an interesting question, think I should try again and be back if and when I have an answer. Or perhaps someone else has already tried this out?

  • Trying to Embed a video into a program

I have made a gag game in visual basic, that involves a couple of video clips, I used the "Windows Media Player" thing to embed the clips, and I tested it multiple times, and its ready to be distributed, so I gave a "pre-release" copy
of the game to my friend for him to install, and the videos did not show up, I figured out that the video clips, no matter what I do wont be installed with the program, and have a quick path within the program folder... So my question is is that if there is
anyway to fix that, that would be great... Maybe make the Program portable and... ugh I dunno please do help me...

What do you mean by embed the clips?
Do you mean added the clips as resources in your applications properties so they are embedded in the compiled .exe for your application? If so they will have to be written to files from resources for Windows Media Player to play them as it can not play files
    directly from resources.
You could provide the video clips (I suppose you mean video files) with your application as files in an appropriate folder to place them in when you install your program on another PC. Recommended folder locations can be found in the link below. It advises
what folders on a system should be used by your application. I use an installer to install my applications on 64 bit Windows in the "Program Files (x86)" folder in a sub folder of course. As the installer (Install Shield Limited Edition - Free version
from internet) is set up for that for my system. XP or 32 bit OS may be different. But other files for my application (not .Dll's associated to my application) would go in other, appropriate, folders.

  • Can you embed icloud videos into a blog?

I want to upload video to share via a blog. I know it can be done with youtube, but does anyone know if videos on i-cloud can be embedded in a similar way (e.g. with a URL?)

Considering iCloud is password protected, probably not. I'd stick with youtube or vimeo or some other sort of sharing program. If for no other reason than to protect your iCloud from unintended access.

  • Embed YouTube video into SCORM (HTML5) using Captivate 7?

    Hi there,
I am using Captivate 7 to produce a SCORM compliant HTML5 course - this course includes a video, however when I have tried to upload the video directly, it pauses/doesn't play well in our LMS.  As such I wanted to try embedding/streaming the video from Youtube instead. The video is unlisted (as it is an internal course).  I've had a hunt of the forums but can't seem to work out how to do this?
Note: When I try going to Video > Insert Video, then Event Video > Already Deployed... entering the Youtube url - It doesn't work and I receive the following message: "Failed to load the video file. The file parth or the URL may be invalid. Do you want to change the file part or the URL".  I am using Adobe Captivate 7 version 7.0.1.237 (in case it helps).
    Any and all help appreciated.
    Nicole

    Thanks for the quick response!
Re: Widget - does it work with HTML5?  I found a couple forums that seemed to suggest it doesn't...
Also, when you say the full YouTube URL - where do I get this from?  I (embarrassingly) didn't realise there were two different ones.
    Thanks again,
    Nicole

  • Why can I not embed html video into a Muse slideshow widget?

I have an existing slideshow widget in place and when I upload html video (click on image in slideshow, object, insert html) it puts the video in a seperate box un-linked to the slideshow. I can get the video in with a composition widget, but I need to use a slideshow widget. Site is here:Main_Mltipages and the video needs to be added to the main slideshow.

    Hello,
You can not insert Embedded codes in Slideshow widgets.
If you want to replace images with embedded HTML video , please use Presentation Composition and place them in Target.
You can find it from Object > Insert Widget > Composition > Presentation

  • Linking Video in Indesign CS5.5

    Hello,
I'm getting an error message of "The URL must reference a file that is compliant with flash player when trying to incorporate a linked video into Indesign CS 5.5. Why am I getting this error message? I would like to export the file as an interactive pdf.
    Thanks.

So it sounds like you're trying to stream a video stored on a server, correct?
Here's the way the URL must be written:
"The URL must point to a file that ends in the appropriate file extension; for example, http://www.fakeURL.com/videos/Intro_Video.f4v for a file on a web server. Use rtmp:// in the URL for a video on the Flash Media Server or Flash Streaming Service."
This is from an article I wrote for InDesign Magazine on placing video into InDesign.

  • Embedding video into a slideshow

I read how you can embed a video into a Composition widget, but can you embed it into a Slideshow widget? I have still images and want to incorporate a video as part of the Slideshow and I want to utilize the features of the counter in the Slideshow.
    Thanks!

You can only add images to a Slideshow widget and Composition widgets do not have the Counter option at this time. Not sure if this would be helpful but take a look a the following post for embedding a full-screen background video using outside plugins in Muse - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5410521#5410521.

  • Help a newbie embed a video

Hey I'm doing a college project and we've not been taught all that much about using Flash yet and I won't be in college for another week. I want to embed some videos into a project I'm making using Flash 8 but it needs the videos hosted on a web server? I don't have access to that easily so I was trying to figure out a way to get around it, I tried to embed the video into the timeline and all it came back with was a black screen. Is there a way to have videos embedded without them hosted on a web server? Anything will do as long as the videos are there. Thanks.

Okay tried that and still didn't work. I had the option to embed it into the timeline checked, as well as 'Place instance on stage' 'Embed the entire video' and 'Expand timeline if needed' and it said at the bottom "The codec in the file you are importing does not support editing" Tried it and tested and it's a black screen I try to play, skip forward a frame and nothing happens at all.

  • Code to embed my video in other sites?

    Hello folks!
I will be putting video on my website using iWeb. Simple enough (I hope!)
However, I need to be able to provide code to my customers so that they can embed the video into their own website... the same way that YouTube allows you to do that. Is it possible to do that kind of thing with iWeb?
    Thanks!
    Vixter

I've asked this question previously, and got no responses. I'll ask it again, though my choice of software has changed. I'll be putting video online (this time using Flash video and Dreamweaver). I've seen on YouTube that it's possible to provide someone with a piece of code that allows them to put a video on their site without chewing up their own bandwith. Somehow, it runs directly from YouTube's site, but appears to be on that person's site (for example, it might appear to be sitting on a person's blog, but behind the scenes it's actually running off of YouTube's site). I don't understand the mechanics of this, but am wondering if this can be done by anyone (i.e. me!), or does it require considerable resources.
For example, if I have a site with Flash video on it, can I give someone a piece of code that will enable them to run the video directly from my site (though, it will look like it's actually on their site)? Or, am I only able to provide them with a link to my site (in which case, visitors to their site must leave and come to my site to see the video)? Clear as mud?
Sorry about the long-winded question. Thanks for any advice you can offer! It's very much appreciated.
