Embed audio and movie into pdf

Since acrobat pro 9 is not available for mac I don't understand why Apple can't embed audio and movie into pdf. This is a really needed feature. Oh and also creating spreads in pages09 is needed as well. I want to use pages to create ebooks with audio and movie data etc come on Apple get it sorted .. You have an amazing program here and could clout Adobe on the head if you implemented these features.

Here is my first question about Keynote.
In the User Guide, we may read:
Copy audio and movies into document: Selecting this checkbox saves audio and
video files with the document, so the files play if the document is opened on another
computer.
*_You might want to deselect this checkbox so that the file size is smaller, but_*
*_media files won’t play on another computer unless you transfer them as well._*
The named checkbox is unchecked in the Advanced options as well as in the Preferences pane but, when I drag a sound file, in fact a mp3 one encapsulated in a .mov file, I retrieve it it the document itself.
I'm running the app on a French system if it may make sense.
Am'I doing something wrongly ?

I have no huge knowledge about Keynote.
So, I would use brute force.
Assuming that your document is built with the flatfile format introduced by iWork '09
(1) rename the document wxyz.key as wxyz.key.zip
(2) double click the renamed document
it will expand as a wxyz.key document using the old package structure
(3) ctrl + click the icon of the new wxyz.key document to reach the contextual menu offering the item allowing you to "Display Package Contents"
(4) in this contents you will see the "kind of aliases" which I wrote about.
They are named something like : azertyui.mov
(5) open them with an hexadecimal editor like the free Hexedit.
You may also drag & drop them on the TextEdit icon.
In this late case you will get something like :
I highlighted the meaningful info.
Here it must be read as:
Macintosh HD/Important/Téléchargements/jef gilson - oeil vision/jej gilson - oeil vision - 7 -chant inca.mp3
This is the path to the true file.
With this info, you may reach the true file.
As far as I know, the embedded .mov file is a frozen 'kind of alias' so you are not allowed to move it.
As long as it remains where it is, you may move the keynote document everywhere on your HD. You may also move it on an external HD.
As long as the device is connected to your machine with the media file untouched thr doc will behave flawlessly.
If you move it to an other machine, it will be orphan.
So, to use it on an other machine, you must embed the media file in the document.
Open this document with Keynote.
Check the checkbox urging Keynote save media in the document
Delete the icon of the media item existing in the document
Drag & drop the true media file as a replacement of the deleted one
then save the document.
Oops I was forgetting to respond about 'dropped files'.

When I import audio and move it into my timeline the project will no longer play?

The audio is a .wav file created in Audacity.
The OS is Windows XP
The verison is CS4
I have included images of the Sequence settings and the playback settings because I was not sure what information you would need.
I am not sure what you mean by waiting for the Audio to conform but I know I have imported the audio and gone back the next day and tried to place it in the timeline and it still did not work.

IWeb, audio and movie films not loading correctly

I have a personal website and want to upload some audio and movie files to it.
I created the website through my iMac's iWeb software.
I followed the instructions in the help manual and loaded the six audio files and four movie files, they all loaded correctly, however, when I logged onto my website, I can see the files there but not the playing controls.
I contacted the support dept of my domain host, and they informed me that this is a script/coding issue.
Can anyone provide any help on how I resolve this?

Bash: unzip file and move into directory if directory created

I'm writing a script that decompresses zipped/rared files.
The zips typically have content in a one directory or not contained in a directory.
Is there a way to see if the unzip process created a directory and move into it or if one wasn't created to operate on the files extracted in the PWD?
So far the rar files have only had data that gets extracted to PWD, but if I see some with files in directories I'd like for a solution that might work in that case as well.

Would zipinfo' help? It lists zip archive files in a format similar to 'ls -l'.
I only tried this on two zipfiles, and I'm concerned about how foolproof this may or may not be.
Zipinfo lists the files in the opposite order that they were placed into the zipfile, I think. If the first file placed into the zip was the parent directory, and so contains all the other files, the listing will be something like that shown below, with the container directory always on the next-to-last line of zipinfo's output:

So one would have to test if the next-to-last line of zipinfo's output begins with 'd' (directory) or '-' (regular file).
Off the top of my head, with not-so great command-line skills, I came up with:

Embed audio to export in pdf

I just ran the update for Pages IOS and I want to embed an audio file into the document. Which I can do. But when I export the document into PDF, I can't get the audio to show? I have tried a hidden hyperlink, but it still doesn't show?
Any thoughts?

Pages has never supported imbedding audio or video files in files exported as PDF. You would need to use a higher end PDF program such as Acrobat Pro to do this.

Struggling to embed a quicktime movie into my website

I have put the movie in my local folder, before uploading it to my website proper, opened the page in which I want the movie to appear, viewed source and entered all various types of html to try and embed my movie. All I get is a box with the quicktime logo and a question mark? Sometimes I get found plug-in but error with plug-in. Any clear help here would most appreciated, this may be dot to dot for some but alien to me.

BW Web Publisher Toolbar
The version of the toolbar that you use with the Web Publisher, depends on whether you store the Web templates on the BW server or the ITS server (see Determining Path and ITS Settings).
If you have chosen the ITS as the server, the toolbar has the following functions:
Symbol
Function
Create new ITS Web template
You use this function to create a new Web template.
Check out ITS Web Template
You use this function to check out an ITS Web template, and store it locally. Storing the ITS Web template locally, means that you are able to change it, by adding a new item, for example. You either overwrite the old ITS Web template, or create a new one. You have to store the new ITS template under a new name.
Check in ITS Web Template
The ITS Web template is checked in, and saved in the BW system.
Publish to ITS
The ITS Web template is stored on the ITS you select.
Display Web template in the Browser
The Web template that has been checked in and published on the ITS, is displayed in the Web Browser.
Copy HTML tag to clipboard
You use this function to save the item as an HTML tag on the clipboard.
Wizard
This function takes you to the Web Publisher Wizard.

When I crop in LR3 and move into PSE, the crop ratio changes.

I like LR's crop tool better than PSE, so I use that to crop before I move into PSE for further editing. I don't know if this would make a difference, but I do save the LR copy as a jpeg first cause I'm not always ready to finish editing it at that point (I know, not what everybody else does but it works for me). I crop in LR using 15x11, but when I open it in PSE it is only 13x9 (roughly). Any idea why the size would change? Should I not crop until I'm done editing, then go back into LR for the final cropping? Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

I understand how that would work, but I don't understand why it does it even AFTER I save the LR file as a cropped jpeg? If I save a crop in LR, shouldn't it save at the size I crop it to? I'm mainly referring to photos that I save first as a jpeg and export to my folders from LR, THEN open in PSE.

There are several ways to do this. Unfortunate none are built into iMovie '08 which don't require external processing. Your basic options are to either use iMovie HD for this purpose or pre-process a clip externally before import/editing in iMovie '08. ApplesScript needed to copy iCal event and move into different calendar

I hope someone can help with this request.
For starters, I'm clueless on AppleScript and don't have the time or energy to learn it.
I am looking for a script that will copy an event in one calendar and move it to my CalDav (Google) calendar - which I intend using as my primary calendar going forward.
My techie friends give me strange looks when I explain how I came to this situation: I have to accept Outlook meeting invitations in Entourage to avoid the problem of events showing up 2 hours early (or late - can't remember which) in iCal. I have iCal and Entourage synced, with the events being pushed to iCal in a calendar named 'Entourage'.
I would like any 'Entourage' events to be copied and moved to my Google calendar, after which it syncs with the cloud.
Any assistance or advice?

There's a strong element of irony in coming across a solution after doing a search on 'Entourage' and 'Google Calendar' syncing.

The nice thing is you can choose which of your iCal calendars to sync.
I use Entourage to accept meeting requests - iCal used to have trouble with time zones in meeting requests sent from Outlook - so have used the work-around of accepting in Entourage, and syncing it with iCal. This syncing process creates a separate calendar in iCal.
In theory, I could simply use that as my primary calendar - which I haven't thus far, but may well do.
As the synched Google Calendar shows up in iCal, you do end up with duplications showing if you have all calendars visible. So all I've done is hide the visibility of the Entourage calendar (and my other calendars) so that all I see is my GCal.
It's a little clumsy, I'll admit, but it does the job. Which is all a little too Microsoft-ish for my liking

does not find the mpg files; the competing
freeware ps2pdf does.

I use Mac OSX 10.4.11, Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 Pro.
Mac OSX has no Unix "strace" command.
Somebody told me to start Distiller with the -F flag.
This might solve the problem. How is this done on MacOSX?
The OSX command structure I know of is
open -a Distiller.app filename.ps
This does not allow to add a -F flag for Distiller,
or am I wrong?

Don't use Distiller to input the movie files, use Acrobat. Even if you
get the files into the pdf, the chances are they won't play properly in
Acrobat or Reader on the Mac.
Additionally, I don't think you can use mpg files. I think you are
restricted to .mov or Flash files on the Mac on Acrobat 8. I used to be
a .mov type of guy, but Flash player is available to more people. My
recommendation is to upgrade to Acrobat 9 for its new Flash abilities
which do not require either Flash or Quicktime. If you don't upgrade to
Acrobat 9, then go with Quicktime .mov files. Acrobat 8 and earlier will
only handle flash version 4 or earlier if my memory serves.
BTW, you avoid all these issues is you use the attachment tool, rather
than the movie tool, but then they cannot play within Acrobat, but will
launch a separate process. They you can use your mpgs.

When importing a .mov file with sound into iMovie 10.0.3, the audio does not import with the video. I have no sound. The file plays and sounds fine on the desktop. What am I doing wrong?

Check out the first article for some troubleshooting steps to see if anything is preventing the audio from playing properly. Also try using QuickTime to convert the video in a different format and then import it into iMovie to see if that changes things.
