Embed command and Connect and Captivate solutions

1.    How do I reference a Connect address (asset) such as from the Connect server that don't end in an html file using the embed command in html so that the content shows on my web page?
a.    I tried the flash object and movie in dreamweaver CS3 but I couldn’t get it to work.
b.    If I upload the swf files to the same server as the web page I can use the embed command to push the swf files on a web page. I bypass the html page that makes the plugin announce a security warning.
c.    If I do that the FLVs don’t play using Captivate 3 on an http server.
d.    My Captivate projects works when I play the URL from the Connect Server and the FLVs play but I can’t embed them in a web page. Can I see some sample code.

Hi all,
It is fair to say that additional information is required, however in this case the question is one of general functionality... the OS version etc. is irrelevant to be able to answer this question. I have just upgraded to Captivate 7, and I also cannot find this functionality. I can insert "Interactions", which include the options of a Youtube video, or a Web object, amongst other stuff, but I cannot see where you can just insert a playable video, like an MP4, or other locally saved video. Is this possible? Can someone please answer this simple question?

Captivate 7, Exit Bug and a Solution
Several of our Inquisiq R3 users have alerted us to the fact that courses developed with Captivate 7 published to HTML5 and SWF do not close properly when using the “Exit” button, forcing the user instead to manually close the browser window by clicking the “X” in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
Through our investigation into this issue, it appears that the process that Adobe has implemented when clicking the “Exit” button is to simply attempt to close the content window and rely on the LMS to capture and commit the session data. Nowhere did we see that the content was actually calling the “LMSFinish()” [SCORM 1.2] or “Terminate()” [SCORM 2004] methods in the LMS’s SCORM API to commit the lesson data to the LMS as required by the SCORM specification.
Adobe uses their own defined function, “DoCPExit,” to close a lesson window. This method contains a “window.close()” call and additional logic to “bubble up” the command through the frame parents (if they exist and also contain the “DoCPExit” method - presumably because they would also be Adobe-published content files within your package).
There are several flaws to this approach.
By not calling “LMSFinish()” or “Terminate(),” the content is, by definition, not SCORM conformant. Part of the minimum requirements for conformance are that the content calls the initialization method “LMSInitialize()” in SCORM 1.2 or “Initialize()” in SCORM 2004 and the termination method “LMSFinish()” in SCORM 1.2 or “Terminate()” in SCORM 2004. The LMS is not required to clean up the data left behind when the content fails to make this call. So if your LMS doesn’t take this additional step (of setting ‘LMSFinish’ or ‘Terminate’ if the lesson does not), your data will be completely lost…i.e. no record of you taking the lesson will be recorded.
The call to close the browser window will fail if the LMS is running the content within a frame or iframe. Since the SCORM specification allows content to be launched in frames or iframes (in addition to new browser windows), lessons need to be able to accommodate this scenario. Even with the “bubble up” logic, once the call reaches the top most content window, and the next parent window in line is the LMS container page, the call will no longer be passed and a “window.close()” call will be fired within the framed page. When this call is made, nothing will happen as a framed page cannot close the browser window using this command. Through our investigation, we’ve learned that at least 4 other well-known LMSs have experienced this particular issue.
Ironically, the solution that we’ve discovered is not only SCORM conformant, but also very simple and follows what we would consider to be SCORM “best practices”. The foundation and logic for the solution is already contained within the published Captivate files (and it is the same solution whether you publish to SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004).
We simply modify the “DoCPExit” method that is contained within the “Utilities.js” file to call the “Finish()” method. Just replace all the code appearing between the “{“and the “}” as you see here:

The “Finish()” method that we have inserted is, as mentioned, already contained within the published Captivate files and contains the logic to properly set the exit parameters and correctly identify whether the content is SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004; it will therefore make a call to the correct close method (“LMSFinish()” or “Terminate()”) accordingly. Once the LMS has received this command, it should take care of removing the content properly, leaving no need for any “bubble-up” logic or window close calls within the content code.
Overall, if the lessons you develop with Captivate 7 work as expected and required in your LMS, there is no need to implement this change. However, if your lesson’s Exit button is not working as it should, and/or you are losing progress and status data when closing the lesson, the fix described here should resolve all those issues.
The biggest issue here is that since we’re changing published code, the next time you update and publish that same Captivate project, you have to remember to change that published function code AGAIN, as Captivate will simply publish the default code.
We have been in touch with the Captivate team to discuss this problem and they are investigating. We would hope a patch to address this flaw would be released in the near future

Try clearing out your project cache (Preferences > General > Clear Cache) then republish using the option to Force Republish All Slides.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, you may be seeing the early stages of project file corruption. Check the suggestions in this post about troubleshooting issues where you may need to copy all slides to a new blank project shell to try and strip out corruption:

I'm afraid you'll have to get the phone serviced, dropping the phone must have damaged additional parts inside the phone.
But Apple will not service the phone anymore, opening the phone and replacing the battery should only be done by authorized personal, not by users.
You'll have to look for a 3rd party repair shop and see if they can fix this, sorry.

Fixed Layout ePub - please help me embed video and/or use Folio overlay with web content

I have an In Design file used to create a print book (11"x11") and have decided to use CC 2014 to create a fixed-layout ePub 3 for a digital version. I converted the book over with minor issues of having to change the font and it looks beautiful.
I would like to add videos at the end of the book to take advantage of the flexibility of the digital format. I create a year-end slideshow of my photos and host them on Vimeo.
I have tried the following:
Using the Vimeo standard embed code in an HTML element
Using the old flash Vimeo embed code and converting to HTML - worked great on iBooks on Mac but not on iPhone/iPad as flash-based
Hosting and linking to videos on my own web server and using the Media - insert video link to the mp4 file
Hosting and linking to videos on my old photo server at smugmug.com
I can embed the actual videos but, at their smallest size they increase the file size of the ePub from 78MB to 400MB...
I then thought I would use a Folio Overlay - Web Content.
The idea is to use this blank page on my website which would look for all intents and purposes like another white page in the book - 2012 Slideshow - Oren Photography
The overlay works in Folio Preview but not when exported as an ePub
Is this a limitation of the ePub format?
Any help/advice/suggestions on fixing this are greatly appreciated.

My interest in embedding videos was largely to minimize the final file size and amount of space used on each person's device. I ended up following your advice about using Adobe Media Encoder to minimize the size of each slideshow but it still increased the final ePub from 65 MB to over 200 MB. And that was with video quality that was far inferior from what I could offer through an embed or, my final solution, a link out to my website.
I happen to be of the same thought as Bill that most people are now connected to the internet and would favor a smaller file with access to online content over a very large file. I would have liked to embed the videos and allow 720p quality inside the ePub over the link I ended up settling for.

Windows 7 and HP Solution Center

I just moved from Windows VISTA to Windows 7 RC. Having issues with my HP photosmart 7280c and HP solution center. I am unable to install HPSC. Anyone else experience this issue? HP support wasn't much help at all, which I don't expect them to be with Win7. My main issue is scanning. Even if I try to scan directly connected to the printer, i am getting an error.

Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache folder(s):
Home/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
and, if there is one, the
Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.

I have a requirement and for that i have to do following. a) read a file in an array and then execute a command for each value in that array. after that i want to store the output of command and value of array in another array.
i am doing something like below.

So here is what i want to do.
Query a database using odbc from my management server (odbc is configured and connection is tested) and based on the query it will result out few list of servers. then from the same management server i want to execute a command against all the resulted server
(management server has a binary which can execute remote action). this remote action will get output back.
then i would like to store the name of server and resulte output in a html file which should look like below.
which i will later host on apache.
YOu do not need to move things in and out of arrays and files.

SQL Expressions, commands and more

I have several reports I need to create in Crystal Reports XI, and I'm not sure of the best methodology. I have an ASA (Adaptive Server Anywhere) 9.02 database that I am connecting to through ODBC. The main part of the query is fairly straightforward, but the WHERE clause, I believe, forces me to use a command object. My query, cut down for sanity's sake, is as follows:

That's the query as it is used on an old Sybase DW.NET report, which I have to make work in Crystal. I am able to use the command object and make it work (is this the best way?), but that makes it so I can't use SQL Expressions in the report, which I think I need to solve my other problem as described below.
The field "bridge.fips_state" is actually a code such as "06" or "12" that refers to data in an as yet unreferenced table names PARAMTRS. The PARAMTRS table replaces all of the possible individual lookup tables, and has columns that contain a field for the table name, the field name and the parameter value. For example, if I have the value "06" in my current record, I need to query from the PARAMTRS table to find out what "06" means for the "bridge" table and the "fips_state" column. The SQL code for that is as follows:
SELECT paramtrs.shortdesc FROM paramtrs
WHERE paramtrs.table_name='bridge' and paramtrs.field_name='fips_state' and paramvalue='06'
This returns the value in the shortdesc field, "06 California" which is what the users want on their report instead of the value "06" from the bridge table. If my WHERE statement in the first query forces the use of a command, and negates my abilty to use SQL Expressions, how can I extract values from my PARAMTRS table, which I need to do for several fields in the main query.
Does anyone have any advice on this?

A SQL Command is probably the best way to go. While it's true that you can't use SQL Expressions in conjunction with Commands, you don't need to.
Just add whatever you would add whatever you would put in the Expression, to the SQL Command.
For example, just add the PARAMTRS table to the existing SQL script in the FROM clause, link it in your WHERE clause and then add whatever fields you need from that table under the SELECT statement.

Hi,
You can define external commands using transaction code SM69.
External commands are commands which would be executed at your operating
system with or without parameters.
Operating system commands are those which you execute at OS level like
mkdir, cat, rm, cp, ls
Parameters are options that you add to os commands to get more functionalities.
like, < ls -l > : will give you a long listing of files where " l " is the parameter
< ls -lt > : will give you a long listing with last changed file at top where " lt " is the parameter.
You can mention these in SM69 when you define the external commands.
Now, in order to execute these in your background job. In the steps click on "external command" and give your command name in SM36 while creating your job.

Problems with Flash Security issues and Captivate projects

Hello,
We're putting together a flash based eLearning course that has been created primarily in Adobe Captivate with flash plugins. The course consists of several modules, all which are embedded into HTML files that are linked to each other.
Our client wants the project on a CD, which is starting to create some problems. Everytime the project goes to open another HTML/flash page, the security issue comes up that mentions that the flash player is trying to communicate to the internet.
Now usually the way to get around this is to go into the security settings and add the CD as an accepted URL - however we can't do this for several reasons. The main one is that we are encasing it within Firefox Portable (included within the CD and as such, read only) and the computers it is being used on may not be connected to the internet.
Any idea how we can get around this? Are the flash player settings stored somewhere locally on your computer, and can we configure them there? (perhaps through an ini or something) to place on the CD with the plugin for Firefox Portable? Is there a simpler way to address this that we're just not seeing?

Server2Go is also what I'd have offered. The mention of Firefox portable sound intiguing, but I'm really skeptical that it will do what is needed in this case.
In case it will help, here are some steps for Server2Go.
Download the Server2Go software from http://www.server2go-web.de/download/download.html
Choose the Micro package
This should result in receiving a zip file named distribute_apache1.3_micro.zip
Unzip the contents of the zip file to the root of your hard drive ( C:\ )
This should create a folder named distribute_apache1.3_micro
Open this folder and delete the following files and folders inside:
Files:
splash.bmp
logo.ico
readme.txt
Folders:
dlls
dbdir
cgi-bin
Open the htdocs folder and delete all files and folders inside.
Copy all of your Captivate output files to the htdocs folder
Rename the HTML page Captivate created to index.htm
Copy the contents of the distribute_apache1.3_micro folder to the CD-ROM and test!

Cannot change command and control button

in the past I've been able to switch the command and control buttons from system preferences. I recently connected a new Microsoft keyboard to my mac mini, and when I change the command and control button the same way I did before, it has no affect. The command and control keys have their default action. Is there a way to over ride this?

I did on Lenono brand windows keyboard and it works, but when I try a Microsoft brand windows keyboard, it doesnt work.
