Embed FREE3OF9.TTF in Oracle 9i PDF report

I want to embed the "Free 3 of 9" barcode font in my Oracle 9i report. The steps I have taken are as follows:
1. I know I can't use a True Type font for embedding so I have used the conversion utility - ttf2pt1 - to create .afm and .pfa files.
2. I have copied these into a directory included in my REPORTS_PATH.
3. I have updated my uifont.ali to include the following:
[ PDF:Embed ]
Free 3 of 9 = "FREE3OF9.afm FREE3OF9.pfa"
4. In my report, I have selected the "Free 3 of 9" True Type font for the text having already included the font in my windows Font directory.
5. I issue the following command to run my report:
http://server:port/reports/rwservlet?server=REPSERVER&report=BARCODE_TEST&destype=cache&desformat=PDF&desname=BARCODE_TEST.pdf&envid=DEV&PDFEMBED=YES
Unfortunately, the resulting pdf document displays the text in a default font (looks like arial) and not in the "Free 3 of 9" font. If I run the report to a file from Report Builder the PDF document includes the text using the barcode font.
How can I test that my embedding is working correctly? Have I added the entry correctly to my uifont.ali? Am I doing this correctly, including the ttf barcode font in the report expecting it to be replaced by the .afm and .pfa fonts?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Richard

I know this is a very old thread, but I just beat my head against this for 2-days until I got it and wanted to post the solution.
First of all, changes to uifont.ali do not go into effect immediately. I find that there a lag equal to the engine's job life, so I've been hitting refresh alot (about 20 times per change, sometimes more).
The correct entry for PDF:Embed looks like this :
[ PDF:Embed ]
"Free 3 of 9" = "FREE3OF9.pfm FREE3OF9.pfb"
Note the quotes around the font name. There is no mention of font names with spaces in the documentation, but it must be quoted. I'm not sure about case sensitivity on the filenames (it is a windows server) but the case matches my files.
I am running Application Server under windows so I have to use the .pfm file. I'd expect to use the .afm if I was running on a linux server. (If I try to use the .afm, I get errors)
The two files are in their own directory under $ORACLE_HOME/reports (called free3of9) and I added that directory to REPORTS_PATH in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/HOME0).
I tried putting the fonts into my report directory, but that didn't work. I set my report directory by setting sourceDir property in the rep_server.conf file and apparently that setting doesn't influence font embedding.
The first problem was converting the TTF to an Adobe Postscript Type 1 font, which I did with ttf2pt1. That produced a .afm though (and the .pfb), so then I used a windows program called CrossFont (the 15-day trial version worked fine) to produce the .pfm.
The lag on making the changes was the most frustrating thing about this.

  • Displaying both Hindi and Arabic numerals in Oracle 10g PDF report

    Hi….
Oracle experts told us to ask “In how many ways we can do it in oracle?” instead of asking “Can we do it in Oracle?” , I need ONE way to solve the following problem, it toke to much time and I don’t know if it can be solved !
    The problem:
Can we print in - Oracle 10g reports - a PDF report with BOTH Hindi and Arabic numerals?
Well, at design time everything is fine, you can use right-to-left, left-to-right and the print preview is showing BOTH Hindi/Arabic numerals fine, but when I tried to produce it as a PDF, unfortunately its not, means its either all Hindi or all Arabic numerals !
I tried everything possible, environment variables: NLS_LANG, REPORTS_BIDI_ALGORITHM, and REPORTS_ARABIC_NUMERLS, setting Digit substitution to Context in windows regional settings, uifont.ali is modified properly according to metalink note, but nothing solved this issue!
I noticed something, when I used the DESTYPE=printer and DESNAME=PDF995 (one of the PDF printers) , it worked fine , means the problem could be in the generic PDF generator of the Oracle reports server,
But even with PDF995 you still need to feed the file name, which is not suitable for multi-user environment that need the report to be displayed via web browser.
    Does anybody face this before?

  • Generate multiple Oracle Applications pdf reports in one batch

    hi,
we are working in oracle applications 11i.
we have a custom salary slip report that is built with Oracle Reports Builder and run as a PDF report in Oracle HRMS.
I need to find a solution to generate the reports/pdf files of all employees in one run/click, name each output file according to employee number and month in the report, save them all in a folder.
How can I do this from either, reports builder, or Oracle applications?
    Regrads,

    Hi,
I need to find a solution to generate the reports/pdf files of all employees in one run/clickYou can write a PL/SQL program which will dynamically submit the concurrent request for the report multiple times with different parameters. You will need to run the calling PL/SQL program only once.
name each output file according to employee number and month in the reportThe output files generated are named according to Oracle EBS convention(like o<req_id>.out). I do not know of any way by which the output file names can be changed. You can however generate the report title dynamically, depending on the input parameter.
save them all in a folderOutput files are generally stored in $APPLCSF/$APPLOUT. This location can be changed but it will affect all concurrent programs and not just your report.

  • Problem: Bar Codes Font Embed in PDF Report

    Hi folks.
I'm having a few problems with Reports 9i.
Fact: Oracle 9iAS Release 2 with Red Hat Linux 7.3
I'm trying to print a PDF report that uses a Type 1 Barcode Font (X317349A) using the new PDF EMBED feature of Reports Server 9i.
Following the doc:210318.1 of Metalink i did the following things:
    - Put the X317349A.afm, X317349A.pfa and X317349A.pfb in the $ORACLE_HOME/reports/samples/demo
    - Put the myreport.rdf in the $ORACLE_HOME/reports/samples/demo.
    - Put the the following line in section [ PDF:Embed ] of uifont.ali file:
    X317349A = "X317349A.afm X317349A.pfa"
This fonts works with a sequence of "w" and "n" to form the bar code, and acrobat reader is showing just w and n sequence instead of the bar codes.
Does anybody have a suggestion of what else can i do??
    Thank you all.

    Hello,
First, generate an output with DESFORMAT=HTML and check the font name used in the output.
Then, check that the file QUICASB_.TTF exists in a directory of REPORTS_PATH (take care to the case sensitivity on UNIX)
Check that the file uifont.ali is ok (use the utilty mfontchk)
Check the "precedence" in the file uifont.ali
See the comment in the file uifont.ali itself :

  • Oracle Reports - PDF report

I have a PDF report designed using oracle report builder 6i. This report has a margin that prints the total of all the quantities to be ordered via a QUOTE. If this report prints beyond one page, then the total will print on all the pages. Users do not want to see the total on all the pages but only on the last page. I really need to keep these total fields on the MARGIN section of the layout. Is there any way, i can still keep these fields on the margin and print them only on the last page of the report? The report builder do not let me set the 'print condition' as the 'last page' because it is in the margin section. Any idea on this issue??

I would create a trigger for your MARGIN totals so they print only on the last page.
Have the trigger return TRUE if current page = total pages, else return FALSE.
This will make sure your margin totals are only visible on the last page.

  • Storing oracle-reports generated pdf-report onto a blob

    Hey ppl,
    I have this requirement:
I basically generate a report from Jdev using a remote servlet call to oracle reports, which very neatly generates the pdf document for me and stores it locally. The problem is immediately storing this onto the DB as a blob once the report is generated. I know how to store the pdf as a blob onto the DB. I know how to make the call to oracle-reports and generate my pdf. What I don't know is to sequentially first generate the local pdf report and only once that has been generated proceed to store it onto my DB.
I want it to be done within the scope of a single request. As in, the entire process should be complete through one cycle. I don't want to keep a day end sort of procedure that inserts into the db at the end of the day.
As soon as the report has been requested by the user, I want the pdf file(which is generated by the reports) to also be stored onto the DB.
My problem (which i apologize has been repeated already 2wice above) is that I basically lose control once redirected through the servlet to the report call. There is no way i can instruct Jdev, from the reports side, that the pdf has been generated and now has to be stored onto the DB, as i have lost the session context by redirecting to a different servlet.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi,
its quite some time ago that I a looked Oracle Reports, however, I think that the event mechanism is quite complex to achieve
I want it to be done within the scope of a single request.
Which means that if Oracle Reports hangs, the user session follows.
As in, the entire process should be complete through one cycle.
Unfortunately you don't control how long reports run, which means that there is no sense in stopping the page lifecycle for this
I don't want to keep a day end sort of procedure that inserts into the db at the end of the day.
Fair enough, but as far as I remember there is an eventing in Reports that would allow you to have the Oracle Reports Server triggering the upload
So I think, the architecture I would go for is:
    - user requests report
    - report generates PDF output
    - reports uploads to DB
    - reports_processing table holds user ID and reports ID plus flag to update when report is done
    - If using JSF, you could use af:poll to check frequently for the report to be finished.

  • How to print a BLOB (image) on a PDF report using Oracle APEX Listener as Print Server

    Hi,
    I use APEX 4.2.
I have the following query as SQL text for a Report Queries in Shared Components:

        mimetype,
        image_last_update
    from
        demo_customers;
I am unable to have the image printed on the PDF report. Even when the P22_CUSTOMER_IMAGE is defined as session state item.
Does someone knows how to print such image/BLOB in a PDF report?
    Thanks by advance.
    Kind Regards.

    Hi,
Indeed, I would need a custom layout.
Unfortunately, it seems (according to this white paper) not possible with the APEX listener only. I would need a third pary tool. A pity...
For me strange, that I cannot generate such a report having images or pictures in a pre-definied report layout... Maybe a future enahancement for Oracle.
    Kind Regards.

  • Create PDF report with APEX and Oracle 11g doesn't work

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem with the downloading of PDF reports from APEX with Oracle 11g.
When I try to download a PDF, Acrobat Reader says it can not open the file.
I have done the same test in an environment with APEX and Oracle 10g and it works perfectly.
Does anyone know if there is a known bug for version 11g.
    Thank you very much.

  • How to embed images in PDF reports - help!

i have gone through the demo at http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/hol08/apexprnt/apexprnt2_otn.htm and this works fine UNLESS the image is bigger than say 8Kb.
How do i accomplish embedding an image in a PDF report if these images are (substantially) bigger??
I have tried asking this on this forum a number of times with no success. Is there ANYONE out there that can help me in this urgent matter?
    Any help would be venerated.
    regards,
    stafford

Before entering into XSL-FO, I would strongly advise using XML-Spy or a similar product to check the validity of the XSL-FO code.
Also, I found the process to be highly iterative, building up the XSL-FO piece by piece. For this purpose I created a test harness in which I could enter the XML data and the FO sheet and generate the PDF outside of Apex. This saved quite a lot of time as I did not have to delete the report query each time I wanted to apply a change.
Anyway heres the XSL-FO for a letter generated by the system.
I use a bit map for a logo, I checked the size of it and it is 56k.
I'll submit a further post with the test harness.
Also, let me know if you need help installing FOP.
    Cheers
    Paul

  • How to Create new PDF Report in ORacle Apex3.2 without having XML Publisher

I am an Apex developer , my requirement is to develop the PDF file from Apex 3.2 with out using Oracle BI Publisher.
Can anyone let me know the possibility??
    Thanks,
    Dhana

    Dhana,
What reports are you trying to generate? I believe Apex can generate PDF reports out-of-the-box.

  • Add hyperlink in a page to direct to a .pdf report in oracle ADF jdeveloper

    Hi,
I want to put a hyperlink, which will direct the user to the report. but I am getting the problem with, "where should I put the pdf file" any help please???
    here is my code:
    <a target="_blank" href="/faces/DocumentationKNM.pdf">Guide Book</a>
    what should be the href?

Well, this obviously depends on where the pdf report  is on your server and if it's accessible from the web application. For this it must be somewhere in the web root of your application. To access the report somewhere else on the server you can implement a servlet and stream the report from there.
Summary: we need to describe your use case in more detail.
