Embedded avi content – default playback on built-in flash player instead of quicktime?

Hello, I am creating a pdf book with hundreds of audio clips embedded.  Because Indesign can't import mp3, I actually had to convert all my mp3 files to avi files without video, then import those into the indesign document for export to pdf. I used avi because it uses an mp3 codec (??) and keeps each sound file at 300k compared to 4mb for the same file as an swf or wav. Size is important because the book has 800 clips in total.  So that was my first question.  Would anyone have done something different?  Well now I have a second issue.  When Indesign exports to pdf, the avi files (embedded) are set to automatically open with the built-in quicktime player.  And I noticed that the embedded avi files are identified as "quicktime content." This would be ok with me if the quicktime player played the files, but it doesn't; it just freezes when I click on the file.  Now, of course, I can manually change each avi file in the pdf to open with the built-in flash player, and that works fine, and that's the player I'd like the files to open with, but this is impossible as a solution because if I have to edit this document in a month or so, I would then have to manually change the properties (rendition) of all the avi files again in the new pdf.  As it is now, when I open the pdf and select the avi object then click properties, then edit rendition, I see that quicktime has been chosen as the default. Is there a way to export from indesign to pdf so that the preferred player of avi files is not set automatically to quicktime, and instead to flash player? I hope I've described the issues clearly.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Chris,
Hardware acceleration on or off makes absolutely no difference, i recently tried watching videos in a 100% fresh install and new profile in firefox (no addons) and the problem still occurs albiet a little slower in the new install, ie it takes a little longer to drop out of synch.
There is a noticeable difference in framerate just before the problem occurs, like a very tiny hiccup, from that point on the audio gets left further and further behind, it's remedied by clicking back a few seconds on the video play bar but this is only temporary, lately i've even noticed it happening with live streams from the BBC, once again i must stress, this doesn't happen in Chrome or Opera or IE.

  • A script to force acrobat to play avi content with built in flash player instead of quicktime

Hello, is there a script that would force acrobat to play embedded avi content with the built in flash player instead of the quicktime player?  first reason is that the built in quicktime player doesn't play the avi files anyway (for me at least); and second is that there are hundreds of sound clips in the pdf, and it is likely that i will have to revise the document and export again, so I can't manually change the properties of each sound clip to open with flash player.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Buy software have wmv to Vp6 function.

  • Script to force embedded avi to open with acrobat's built-in flash player instead of quicktime

Hi, when I export to pdf with an avi file embedded, acrobat automatically tries to play it with the built-in quicktime player, which it fails to do; it just ends up freezing.  Is there a script for indesign that would tell the avi file to open with the built in flash player (in acrobat) instead? or would that be an acrobat script?  When I open the pdf, I notice that it reconizes the embedded avi as "quicktime content." I am guessing that indesign made it "quicktime content" when it imported the avi?  any suggestions would be appreciated.

But as soon as I install QuickTime--even though the default for .m4a is
still set to WMP--in IE8 the .m4a file is now opening up with the QuickTime
browser plugin! Windows Explorer is still fine and it opens up the file
with WMP, but only IE is using the wrong default program.
Okay ... if it's MPEG 4 audio files causing the issue, try the following procedure.
Launch QuickTime. Go "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences". Click the "Browser" Tab. Click the "MIME Types" button.
Expand *MPEG - MPEG system, video, and audio files* and uncheck "MPEG audio". OK out of the tabs, and quit QuickTime.
Does IE 8 launch the .m4a files in WMP now?

  • Embedded Youtube videos not working on Chrome 23 / Flash player 11.5.31.2

For the past couple of weeks, I've not been able to play any Youtube videos that appear as embedded videos on other websites.  The small player appears with the still frame from the video and all the controls, but on pressing play, the video goes blank and won't play (the slider stays stuck at 0:00).  Nor does the full screen button work - the player just stays where it is within the third party website.  This problem has occurred across more than one website, but all sites still work in Internet Explorer.
The main Youtube site is still working.
I have tried all relevant steps here, to no avail (except increasing memory for a particular website, since not just one website is affected):

    Details:
    Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
    Google Chrome 23.0.1271.64 m
    Flash Player 11,5,31,2
    Any suggestions please?

Thank your for your reply, Chris.
I installed the newest version of Chrome, and the videos I have
embedded on my blog are now working.

  • Playback of flv using Flash Player 10.1 and Flash Media Interactive Server jerky.

    Greetings:
Thanks for taking time to read this.
    Here is our problem:
Playback of flv using Flash Player 10.1 and Flash Media Interactive Server jerky.
Playback ok if using Flash Player 10.0 with Flash Media Interactive Server.
    1. Record live using Flash Media Interactive Server
    2. Attempt to play back resulting flv using Flash Player 10.1 and Flash Media Interactive Server.
Video plays ok for a few seconds and then plays faster than as recorded -- very jerky.
    Audio plays at normal rate.
OS: Windows 7 64bit (two different machines. All updates installed.)
    Web browser: FireFox 3.6.10 and IE8 8.0.7600.16385
    Flash version: 10.1.85.3
Tried with hardware acceleration on and off.
Note: Also had another person report the same thing on a Mac.
We had been using Flex 3, so we tried building with Flash Builder 4 – had the same problem.
This is a show stopper for us.
Tried using Wowza and everything worked.
We’re dropping FMIS and switching to Wowza.
If someone can suggest something else to try, we would appreciate it.

    Hi Greg,
So if I understand correctly, your findings are:
Flash Player 10.1.85.3 + Flash Media Interactive Server = Jerky Video
Flash Player 10.0.x.x + Flash Media Interactive Server = Smooth Video
Flash Player 10.1.85.3 + Wowza = Smooth Video
And what about Flash Player 10.0.x.x + Wowza?
Also, if you could check the network traffic to confirm if it's Flash Player causing the issue or it is receiving it like that from FMIS.
    Cheers

  • Mp3s playback broken in newest flash player

    Hi
I've been developing flash sites for many years. Many of them
    are dynamic.
Recently since upgrading the Flash Player (9,0,115,0
installed) in my Firefox browser, a flash site I've built for my
university work has broken. But the same site works fine in IE with
    Version 9,0,60,235 installed.
Mp3s that are loaded dynamically from a separate folder do
not play. They worked fine before christmas, they played fine; the
swf has not changed; the files have not moved; the code is the
same. They simply do not play.
Have there been changes to the flash player security that
would disable playing mp3s that exist on the same server?
Do I now need a crossdomain file for my own mp3s on my own
    server?
I feel strongly that Adobe must begin to respect and ensure
backward compatibility or risk losing its customers. I will have no
interest in developing in Flash if my sites could all suddenly
collapse. (Another example of dead flash files due to change in
    code:

    The broken-audio site is :
    http://www.year01.com/jhave/Concordia_phd/HUMA888/

    Hi Tiago,
    Very basic setup.
Since I want the capability of using the page locally (not
always on a server with php) I generate a list of mps and write
that to a txt file using php once.
Then each time page loads, read in the mp3s.txt file and
    assign a property "mp3" to a button-movieclip, then use a hitarea
rectangle mc within that button-mc to call on the first press of
    the rect button :
    this._parent.son.loadSound("mp3s/"+this._parent.mp3, true);
Since the buttons appear, i know the txt file is being read
    correctly....
Since the sound plays in IE browser with the other version of
player i know the basic setup is correct.
    all suggestions welcome,
    david

  • How do I make iTunes my default music player instead of Quicktime?

First let me say I'm not very tech savy so this could all be something simple that I'm overlooking but iTunes used to be my default player on my mac but now when I try to play music files from other devices such as a flash drive it prompts Quicktime to start up. Any ideas on how to change this back to iTunes?

Select a document in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, click on Open With, select the desired application, and press the Change All button.

  • Make Firefox 29.0.1 by default invoke shortcut for Adobe Flash player plug-in with CPU affinity parameters

Opening Youtube videos shoots FlashPlayerPlugin CPU utilization to over 50% verified through Windows task manager. By default FlashPlayerPlugin is running with CPU affinity of all processors(4 cores), when the CPU affinity is set to just any single core the CPU utilization of FlashPlayerPlugin reduces to below 20%.
Created a shortcut for FlashPlayerPlugin which should invoke FlashPlayerPlugin with CPU affinity, which works when verified from Command Prompt.
But Firefox by default is opening the actual FirefoxPlayerPlugin instead of the shortcut created, how to make Firefox by default invoke shortcut for FlashPlayerPlugin I have created with CPU affinity values.

    Teleguy appreciate your suggestion :
    1. When there is a Wwindows OS command which does the same job it doesn't make much sense to install a utility/tool.
    2. Checked Easytoolz webpage seems like it was last upadated in early 2010, no recent updates
    3. There are many utilities to change CPU affinity with simple to advanced options but the main intention of using CPU affinity was to reduce CPU load these utilities will consume some CPU & memory if not much.

  • Jerky video playback after installing adobe flash player for forefox

I switched to Firefox the other day from MSIE. I immediately had problems with jerky / intermittemnt delivery of video training. I noted that one of the causes could be the adobe flash player so i uninstalled the windows one and installed the firefox plugin. This made no difference.
Can't readily see anything on Google that makes immediate sense.
    Any ideas welcome. Thank you.

I uninstalled version 13 and installed the version 12 as they suggested.  Did not work.
On my computer now I have three accounts.
    1.  Mine - Flash Player version 13 originally worked but after updating (as was suggested by onscreen prompt) it did not work with Safari.  Uninstalling and reinstalling Flash Playaer version 12 also did not work.
    2.  Second computer user can still see CNN video clips in Safari.  'This user did NOT install the update to version 13.
    3.  Guest accoount still can see CNN video clips in Safari.
Any suggestions how to get back to the original configuration on my account.  Unfortunately, I did not know about Time Machine and did not have it set up (have subsequently tried to set it up but cannot seem to be able to select a backup disk).
    Any suggestions appreciated.

  • Unintentional embedded install of Macromedia Flash 8 has corrupted Windows 8 Flash player

I am in a UK school. We have just installed an older drawing package on Windows 8.1 via GPO using its MSI. Unfortunately this contained an embedded install of Macromedia Flash 8 (available to de-select in the manual install) which has installed something to make the Windows 8 built in Flash player not work (it is detected as an old version). I have now nobbled the MSI using Orca not to install Flash 8 and new installs are OK but I don't know what to do to correct the dozens or so of PCs installed with the original MSI. The drawing package uninstaller does not remove the flash 8 damage. The Flash 8 installer has clearly replaced a/some files and registry entries and they need to be "restored" with the originals. Does anybody have any ideas, or perhaps an old Flash 8 installer package I could try running to uninstall it, or a list of files/registry entries that Flash 8 has modified? Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Hi OldFogey,
Microsoft embeds Flash Player for Internet Explorer on Windows 8.x.  I'm actually a bit surprised that this old install was able to modify the version of Flash Player for Internet Explorer as those files are locked.  Since Microsoft controls Flash Player for Internet Explorer on Windows 8.x I recommend asking your question on the pertinent Microsoft forums for Internet Explorer for Windows 8.x.

  • Flash Player Chrome 11.1.700.225 - Default Mic - Stereo mix like default

    Hi again!
If you computer have stereo mix option, and don´t change mic selection, "Default" is as default. But didn´t take the microphone like default, it taken like stereo mix. And when users try to rec theirs voices there isn't any errors, but didn't rec anything.
If you try this with Firefox or Internet Explorer, "Default" doesn´t exist, and Flash Player displayed microphone correctly and work correctly.
Could you give us a solution?

  • Can Adobe Flash Player support Microsoft Windows Embedded 8 version?

Flash Player seems still have bugs on Microsoft Windows Embedded 8.
Does any one know which flash player version is fully support WES8?

The Windows IE plugin is modified by Microsoft. Adobe writes the code, but once it goes in the browser, it's Microsoft's baby. It cannot be updated or replaced here unless you remove a specific Windows 8 update KB patch.
It IS fully supported but IE11 has been a "rolling train wreck" since it was released. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • BBC Embedded Flash Player - Playback Error

    When trying to view video content on the BBC Online websites using an embedded player, I receive the following error regardless of what browser/OS I use;
This content doesn't seem to be working. Please try again later.
    The Flash Player detailed error information reads;
    Error code : 1024
    Severity : critical
Description : No further playback is possible following a mediation error
    Responsibility : MediaSelector
Could anyone advise a solution to this problem? I have Flash Player 16.0.0.305 installed.

I have this exact same issue.  I've recently built 3 computers for friends, this one I'm typing from being the third.
They're all using windows 7 64bit, all have the same hardware and the same basic software. I've built them about a month apart and the first 2 work perfectly.  This last one is having nothing but troubles with the exact issues described by the O.P. except my issues are across all browsers.
IE will play all youtube videos WITHOUT FLASH, but I can't play videos from a site like Steam.  So when I put in the newest flash player everything goes to pot.  Oddly enough though I will be able to play videos on steam, but that's because steam videos only have 1 resolution and don't try to auto-adjust.  Youtube starts to cycle through resolutions, restarting each time, before finally just quitting and giving an error message.  Again this happens in both FF and IE (I won't put the spyware known as chrome on any machine).
I've tried every fix and solution I can find for 2 days now and I'm at my wit's end.  If I see one suggestion for hardware acceleration I'm going to snap! lol.  No spyware, no malware, tried hardware acceleration, tried the official uninstall tool, have uninstalled both browsers (diabled IE from the control panel, I realize that it can't be uninstalled per se), have deleted cookies, deleted a specific windows update that someone mentioned was corrupt. I've done the hokey pokey, sacrificed a goat, thrown salt over my shoulder, and eaten a spoonful of sugar.
I'm about ready to try a fresh install.  I just cannot figure out why this computer is having so many problems with flash and every other computer I've done in the last year and a half (around 12) has gone smooth as silk.

Your site was built using tables, whose sizes are defined in your site.
If we look at your first table definition, we can see:
    <table width="861" height="1449" border="3" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#868787">
Your table has a width of 861 pixels and an overall height of 1449 pixels. Anything you put into that overall box must fit those dimensions, else
it won't be visible. Anything you add above it will push everything down. You can redefine your sizing to let you edit more inside of the table elements.
This is why, when you type in more text, things act weird. If you are in Dreamweaver, you must find the right cell to put your text into and then enter
text there. Unfortunately, this is going to push things around, which were all lined up using tables. And this gets everything offset with respect to
    everything else in your website.
And that is why everyone is saying, "Start Over!"
I just inherited a website that has been put together using tables. I'm going to have to expend considerable effort in rewriting the entire design of the
website because of that. because everything I intend to add to the pages on the site is going to need to be deconstructed in order to get it to work
properly if I'm adding text and pictures that need to line up with each other.
You need something done quick and dirty and the only way I can recommend you do that is to use Dreamweaver to show you the tables you have
and put what you need in a new table that is defined above or below the tables you all ready have defined. Do that and then get back to someone here
who knows how to make a website correctly to clean up your entire website and make it editable -- which will cost you some money, but it will be
    money well-spent.
I like to quote this maxim: Good, Fast, Cheap. Pick any two. This works for website design. You can get it fast and cheap, but it won't be good. I
think you may have chosen that route.
