Embedded/browser-based PDFs slow to open in Acrobat Pro 9

I'm trying to load PDFs inside my browser using Acrobat Pro 9 but they take a really long time to open. I've done a repair of Acrobat and rebooted but to no avail. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Had the same problem on Windows XP after Installing Patch 9.3.3.
The problem could be solved by reseting the user settings.
Rename the following REGKEYS:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Acrobat Reader
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Adobe Acrobat
to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Acrobat Reader_Old
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Adobe Acrobat_Old
The keys are created at the next start with the basic settings.

  • Are there settings in Acrobat to enable a PDF file to open in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader by Default rather than open in a Browser

Are there settings in Acrobat to enable a PDF file to open in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader by Default rather than open in a Browser

There is a check box in the preference (under edit). I have not had great success with this setting, but that is what it is supposed to do. Don't expect it to happen in Chrome that has it's own PDF viewer (or the preview function on a MAC). You might also check the settings for your particular browser.

  • How do I get the PDF Convert feature of Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.4.4, which makes a PDF of a web page interactive, to work in Firefox 4.0.1?

I just installed (on my Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) operating system/Intel i5 CPU M560 2.67 GHz) and am now using as my default browser Firefox 4.0.1 because Internet Explorer 9 was giving me so much trouble--lack of display of web content, lack of PDF reproduction when web content displayed, screwball formatting display, etc., all of which has been remedied by the mere installation of Firefox 4.0.1.
How do I get the PDF Convert feature of Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.4.4, which converts a web page to an interactive PDF, to set up and work on Firefox 4.0.1?

You can not do that using Adobe Acrobat 9. Adobe never made a create PDF add-on for Firefox for use with Adobe Acrobat 9. They created a Firefox add-on for use with Acrobat X, but currently that one does not work with Firefox 4 though Adobe are working on an update.

  • Xerox 7830 fails to obey "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option in Acrobat Pro -- Adobe issue or Xerox issue? Workaround?

Our former office printer (Xerox 7345) had no problem with this. But the new Xerox 7830 fails to obey the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option in Acrobat Pro. Even the "Page Setup" is overridden by the Xerox printer driver. It is extremely annoying to have to go into the Xerox driver dialog every time, regardless of that check in the box and the correct dimensions being displayed in the picture.....

Unfortunately, not only does this not solve the problem with multi-page-size documents, but it's begun happening on files which are all one size as well, where that box isn't even checked.
It appears that what's happening is the newer versions of Adobe Acrobat don't play nicely with emulated postscript support past a certain date. We're replacing our Canon with a newer model that has actual postscript support, and if that resolves the issue I'll be certain to post confirmation here. Copies of Adobe Acrobat 7 and 8 in our office haven't seen this problem at all; it's simply everyone who has upgraded past that point that can't print reliably.
More news next week, after we get the new copier.

  • Approval Workflows with Browser-Based InfoPath Forms Not Opening In Browser

    Hello,
I have an InfoPath forms document library with browser-based forms.  Once a user submits a form, I have them utilize the built-in Approval workflow.  The approval workflow emails the approver and provides a link to the document.  When they click the link in the email, it trys to download the InfoPath XML form instead of opening in the browser.
How do I get it to open the form in the browser when I user clicks the link to it from the email or the approval task in the tasks list?

  • Airhelp browser-based output won't open in network location

    Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help us with the following issue:
I want to enable internal reviewers to open my browser-based AIR Help in a shared network location. Currently, in order to open the Help, reviewers must do the following (which seems rather complicated):
    1. Create a folder on their local systems:  \Macromedia\Flash Player\#Security\FlashPlayerTrust.
    2. Paste into it the folder the RoboHelp.cfg file (containing the network path to my AIR Help index.html file).
I derived the above steps from the procedure provided by  http://help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/robohtml/WS1b49059a33f77726-484da80912ce87f5f33-8000. html
Is there a way to avoid having to make reviewers perform these steps in order to access AIR Help on an internally shared network location?
Seems like a very involved process to just check to make sure others in the company can open it and test it. If they don't do this and they click on the index file it looks as if the help will open but then hangs on a blue grey box with a progress bar that never moves.
    Thanks!

    Hi there
Here's the fundamental issue. When you present WebHelp, it's just a frameset with some HTML pages, images and lots of javascript. Browsers generally have no issue with presenting that from local locations such as the C drive or network drives. Well, most browsers. IE will refuse things unless you enable Mark of the Web. When you present browser based AIR help, it's a similar setup, but the fancy looking elements are presented using Adobe Flash. Because you are running from local media and not a Web server, Flash Security kicks in and doesn't allow things to work until you pat it on the head and tell it the world, in fact, will NOT end if it shows you this content. That's what the config file does. Tells the Flash Player that it's okay if the content in this location is presented.
The thing is, if you run from your local drive and Flash Player didn't worry about security, folks could do some pretty nasty things to you if they wanted. That's why it exists. But if you run from a Web server, the browser automatically places you in a safe area. I believe in temporary files where things can't get out of hand. So there is no need for rigid security.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do I keep downloaded pdfs from automatically opening in Acrobat on a MAC?

I am downloading pdfs from FETCH on a MAC and they are automatically opening in Acrobat. How do I download and not have them open? There are literally hundreds of them.
    Thanks,

    Hi Brian,
The Safari web browser contains a feature, enabled by default, which causes all files considered "safe" to be automatically opened once they have finished downloading. Safari considers the following file types to be safe:
    - Pictures
    - Movies
    - Sounds
    - PDF files
    -Text documents
    - Disc images (.dmg files)
    - Other archive types
Although it can be convenient while enabled, this can be a very dangerous feature when it comes to your security. It can be disabled in a few easy steps.
    > Open your Safari web browser by clicking on the Safari icon in the dock.
    > Click on Safari in your Safari menu, located at the top of your screen. When the drop-down menu appears, choose Preferences.
    > Select the General tab from the Preferences window, which is now overlaying your browser window.
You will now see a check box labeled "Open 'safe' files after downloading", located near the middle of the Preferences window. If this box is checked, click on the check mark and verify that it is no longer active.
Click on the red circle/x located in the top left hand corner of the Preferences window to complete the process. You will now be returned to your main browser window.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • PDF won't open in Acrobat after Saving in illustrator

Hi I am currently working on my final architecture project and am having issues with opening a PDF in acrobat after editing and saving in Illustrator.
I am creating an architecture document in autocad which I then export to PDF to be edited in Illustrator. It opens fine in illustrator, however once I have edited and saved in illustrator I am unable to open in acrobat and the program just crashes.
After editing in illustrator the file size increases fairly substantially, but I am able to open larger PDF files no problem if they have no been edited in Illustrator.
Any help would be great. Let me know if any further information would help?
    Thanks!

    Hi Graffiti,
I have posted it in the windows one as I am using Autocad in windows to create the origional PDF. However this has not caused any problems until now.
In answer to your other questions I have used 'save' and 'save as' and tried saving under new file names.
I have been saving the PDF rather than using the PDF printer.
Let me know if any other info would help.

  • Problems with reading a pdf-file using Safari/Adobe Acrobat Pro

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5. and Safari in Snow Leopard I open the pdf-file of  http://dare.uva.nl/document/505726 and small boxes appear in the text f.i. on page 70, 74, on the last page etc.
I don't know why those small boxes appear only on my MacBook Pro with the installed software and others don't read a corrupt text. If I click in den pdf-file on the right side of the mouse and choose "open with Adobe Acrobat Pro" the pdf-file opens correctly (without small boxes)!

As you discovered, Adobe Acrobat/Pro/Reader v.9 will crash for all managed user accounts that store their home folders on the server because it has "difficulty" reading and writing to a folder across a network, which is why it crashes shortly after it launches.
HOWEVER, there is hope. All you need to do is tell Adobe to write all of its files to the local drive rather than the home folder on the sharepoint, as follows:
While logged into your network-user account:
    1. Go to the "Shared" folder on the local drive. (Local HD > Users > Shared)
    2. Create a new folder named "9.0_x86" if you have an Intel or "9.0_ppc" if you have a PPC (without the quotes for either case). You will have to authenticate as an Administrator.
    3. Go to the Acrobat folder within the user's Application Support and delete the folder in it.
    (Home > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Acrobat > 9.0_x86 or 9.0_ppc)
    4. Open/launch the Terminal application found within the Utilities folder on you Mac.
    (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app)
    5. In Terminal, enter the 1st command for Intel or the 2nd for PPC:
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_x86 ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_x86
    OR
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_ppc ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_ppc
Adobe Acrobat 9 should now work properly. You may get the "quit unexpectedly" error message the first time you quit the application, but should only happen the one time.
On a side note, the print spool is slow when printing very large multi-paged PDFs.
This is a fix I found in 2009 by Dennis, can't remember where though.
