Embedded Calibri font problem in UNIX

Hi,
We have created a PDF template in Microsoft Windows. It contains properties and the values for the properties are assigned using Java through an external tool. We have embedded the Calibri font into the template. But when we try to open it in UNIX, it gives an error message saying Cannot extract the embedded font Calibri. Some characters may not display or print correctly. We are using Acrobat reader version 8.1.2 in windows and 7.0.8 in UNIX. Is the Calibri font compatible with UNIX? If its not, how can we solve this issue. Any suggestion on solving this is very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Sasanga

Hi Ganesh,
Thanks for the quick response. Since those templates are client confidential we are not authorized to send those outside the organization. Appreciate if you could let me know what might be the cause of this issue.
Thanks,
Sasanga.

  • Calibri font problem

When trying to print a buyer's order from a vendor, we get a message that the calibri font isn't installed and part of the document is garbled.  We are running in internet explorer and just updated Adobe Reader.  I also tried the image print option and that didn't work as the image on the screen is also garbled.  Any quick, easy fixes for this?

I'm sorry....I'm an accountant, not a Computer Tech.  It does not say this font is not installed, would you like to install it now. So how might one go about installing this font?

  • Font Problem in Unix

We have a report running in unix which uses Times New Roman font and has been running correctly, but for the last few days the output is coming strange and when we check the PDF file we found that it is using Helvetica Font instead of times in the output.
We have checked the uifont.ali and nothing has changed in that. Is there any other file/setting in unix which will affect the font in reports.
    Many Thanks,
    Bibin

We also have a similar problem with the fonts in Unix Vs Windows. What we have is that any string (char/varchar field in rdf) wraps differently in Unix than in Windows. When using the rdf builder locally, we see that the field is properly wrapped around and shown in multiple lines (when using fixed width but expandable vertically) but when run against the reports server (running on UNIX), the field, though wraps, doesn't wrap the same as in Windows, sometimes overlapping on the adjacent field. Have you seen this kind of problem on your side? We are using Reports 6i with Oracle 9i database.

  • Embedding unicode font problem

    Hi All,
I am developing a flex application for Tamil language. I want to use tamil text in all the controls.
When I embed a tamil unicode font with the application, it doesn't render the text properly because of the glyphs.
    @font-face {
                src: url('assets/latha.ttf');
                font-family: 'latha';
                unicode-range:
                U+0054-U+0054,
                U+0061-U+009F,
                U+002E-U+002E,
                U+0B80-U+0BFF;
            .MyEmbeddedFont {
                font-family: 'latha';
                font-size: 18px;
Is it possible to render the glyphs fonts correctly in flex?
Can any one help in this?
    thanks in advance

    Thanks for your reply.
The embed font is working fine. The tamil characters are displayed in controls if it doesn't contain any glyphs. It is the problem only with the glyph characters.
The used  font contains glyphs and works well in other platforms.
In my flex application the glyphs are rendered incorrectly.
I tried the recipe that you have written in the cookbook. But it is not resolved?
Do you I need to update any settings in the compiler?
Or I anything need to be added in the code?

  • Problems embedding Japanese font

I'm having problems embedding the font Ryumin-light. It's a Japanese font that is not essential to my document but I'm placing a PDF file that uses the font. I get the message that it can't be embedded at preflight. I don't have the full version of the font and even though it is listed as free at Adobe the file is missing - http://www.adobe.com/jp/support/qa/ciddown.html The publisher won't accept the document with the errors so I don't know what to do next, I'm very new to Indesign.

  • Embedding font problem - missing letters - PLEASE HELP!

The M carachter is missing in all the text.
The font is embedded and looks fine within catalyst. It is sometimes a problem when I run the file, but always a problem when published.
I have tried on both windows and mac but problem is on both.
I have tried rasterizing the text but looses to much quality. I have also tried optimizing graphics but this doesnt change anything - still missing M!
I cannot find the answer online anywhere, and I really need to solve this asap!
Please check my site so far:

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi Chris,
Yes I have embeded the font and it will not diplay the M's
Is there anyway to change the embed options?
I tried a tester with the same font in flash pro which at first would show the same fault until I changed the text from TLF to Classic Text. However this doesn't help with my Catalyst project! It does however prove that Flash is able to render the whole font family.
Any suggestions???? Have been trying for days to fix this strange issue!
    The font is a .TTF
I Look forward to your reply, thanks for the help

  • Need help - problems with embedding bold fonts (Flash CS3, AS3)

So I'm tearing my hair out over this one project where I'm
trying to embed Arial in a project so that it can be used by two
different dynamic text fields. Nothing I seems to do works. If I
try embedding the font using the Properties window and set the text
fields to bold, the text doesn't appear. If I debold the two text
fields, the text DOES appear - but of course, without the bold. If
I try to embed the font in the library, link it, and use two
different TextFormat objects to format the text fields, the text
shows up - but it isn't bold, even though I set the TextFormat.bold
    property to true.
So what's going on here? How can I fix this?
    Thank you for your time.

In the Library, choose 'New Font'. Select 'Arial Bold' from
the 'Font' drop-down (don't just select Arial and click the bold
checkbox). Select the newly added from from the Library,
right-click and choose 'Linkage' from the context menu, and click
'Export for ActionScript'. The Linkage field should read eg 'Arial
    Bold'.
If you want to apply Arial Bold to an entire text field,
select the field and, in the Font drop-down in the Property
Inspector, look for 'Arial Bold*' (with an asterisk): this is the
embedded version of Arial Bold that you just created.
So, you're using a specific Bold version of the font, not
merely setting a font to bold.

  • Why does embedding Adobe fonts in EPUB cause all text to display as oblique?

I have been having this problem for a while now to various degrees, and I stopped using InDesign to build and export EPUB files for a long time because of it. Lately I have decided to try reintroducing InDesign into my EPUB workflow. However, I have found that whenever I try to export an EPUB 2 file from InDesign CC 2014.1 while embedding Adobe fonts, all the text in the EPUB displays as oblique when I open the resulting file in Sigil or Calibre. Removing and then re-adding the fonts with no obfuscation does not correct the issue. Not embedding the fonts during export -- or removing them from the EPUB entirely -- eliminates the display problem, but obviously I can't expect people to have these fonts installed on their computers.
I do believe most Adobe font licenses allow for embedding, so I don't think this is a security issue. For the sake of this discussion the issue I am having is with Arno Pro OTF (Regular, Italic, Bold).
I can't find anything about this on the web. Can anyone help me with this issue, or has anyone else experienced this at least?
    Thanks!
    Allen

Here's another piece of information to add to the puzzle. The first screenshot is from Calibre on an PC with Windows 8.1 (using Google Chrome as default search engine). The second is from Calibre on a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.1 (using Safari 8.0.2 as default search engine). Both with the same ePub file created on CC2014 on the Mac using Arno Pro for the Latin text, Adobe Song for Chinese, and Deja Vu Sans for the Hexagram

  • Text in Calibri font not displaying in LibreOffice 4

    Hi,
I have recently opened a document in LibreOffice Calc and noticed that the document is text-less, but the highlights, borders and images are present. However, I can see the text content at the editbar above when I click on the cells. All the text is in Calibri font. When I change the font to something else, the text content appears correctly.
I then tested Calibri font in LibreOffice Writer and the outcome is the same: Calibri text content does not appear at all. I did a further test on other app like KWrite, however Calibri font can be displayed correctly. Tried disabling embedded bitmap in fontconfig also made no difference.
I performed a full system update and also tried switching between freetype2 and freetype2-infinality and the result is the same: LibreOffice 4 cannot display Calibri text content. Appreciate if someone can help me with this issue. Thanks.
My system (64-bit) has the following:
    - KDE 4.10.4
    - LibreOffice 4.0.4
    - freetype2-infinality
    - ttf-ms-win8
Note: The Calibri font is obtained directly from my other Win8 installation. The issue affects all Calibri fonts, i.e. Light, Italics, Bold, etc.

It is possible, but unlikely. Most other distros use an older version of LibreOffice, hence the lack of bug reports. It is more likely that it is a LibO bug, and as mentioned on the Arch bug tracker, you should look into filing it with the LibO devs
There are coments in this topic which say that with the official build it works. I had to try for myself. So:
    - downloaded from libreoffice website the rpm tar gz
    - extracted the tgz
    - went into RPMS directory and run: for file in *.rpm; do rpmextract.sh $file; done
    - whent into opt/libreoffice4.0 and run program/soffice
Opened the same document and surprise, now I see the Calibri letters (Calibri font had to be installed, of course).
Now, quickly, run /usr/bin/soffice, open the same document and see.... nothing.
So, to resume: the official build works, the Arch build does not.
Again, why is the Arch bug closed and suggested to report to LibreOffice?
Does not compute... Should I include pictures?

  • Font problem with MX under Snow Leopard

Anybody know what might cause an app built with Director MX not to display an installed (not embedded) custom font under Snow Leopard?
The program was built quite some time ago but was tested under previous Mac OS X.x versions and worked fine. What might have changed that could cause this problem?
Complicating this is that I don't have Snow Leopard myself to test it directly, but here's what I do know:
The font is definitely installed and available to other apps.
Everything else about the app works fine.

I noticed the same jumbled text problem.
When I went to look at Font Book, I see that those fonts are no longer installed. It must've happened when I loaded Snow Leopard last weekend.
Anyway, I went to reinstall fonts, and I see I've got a bunch that got uninstalled. But when I try to reinstall them, like Calisto and Caligula to name the first couple I tried, Font Book reports that there were serious errors when trying to load them.
Does anyone have insights into the vague message: "System Validation" as the serious problem? I don't see a way to get more details about the problem than that.

  • Font problem with Acrobat 8 Pro

When I print to pdf using Acrobat 8 Pro, I find that the fonts don't always look the same in the created pdf file as they do in the original document (whether created in Pages or Word). They look a little squished or altered slightly in a way that isn't as smooth as the original. And I'm not even using rare fonts but ones like Arial.
However when I open these pdf files in Preview the fonts look the same as the original. And when I open them in Reader on a PC they still look as bad as when viewing in Acrobat on the Mac.
I've tried adjusting the settings in Distiller and have printed the pdf files using a high quality setting that embeds all fonts and still the fonts come out looking not quite right.
This has been very frustrating to me as I never had this type of problem when using Acrobat on Windows before. The pdf files always came out exactly like the original source document. Is there something different about Acrobat on a Mac or is there a setting or something else I can fix?
    I'm running OS X 10.5.4 on a Macbook Pro.

Have you checked the font embedding inside File / Properties / Fonts /?
Are they set to embed or not since High Quality DOES embed the fonts ...

  • Calibri font not printing - created with Acrobat XI pro 11.0.4 in Word 2007

Hi, we recently upgraded to Adobe Acrobat XI pro (11.0.4) and when we create a PDF in Word using the Calibri fonts, it doesn't print when using Adobe Reader X.
Prints ok when using Quark or other software, just not working with Office.

    Thanks for your answer.
We are in a controlled office environment and unfortunately we cannot receive updates due to company policies. We have to wait until they do another "package" with an upgraded version.
It's printing ok with Adobe Reader XI, but not Reader X (which is our actual default Reader). And again they cannot install Reader XI to all (only me since I'm a graphic designer, I have admin rights). We tried on other printers, not working too. Font is embeded too. It's working when using another PDF maker (like we have PDF X Change, it's working). Was working also with our previous Acrobat X Pro.

  • PDFMaker font problem

Can anyone offer any advice on how to debug a font problem?
I am using a (shareware) symbol font on my Windows XP system. It works great in FrameMaker, and comes out perfectly in Frame-generated PDF files.
Unfortunately, I also have to convert Excel spreadsheets to PDF, using the same font. When I generated those PDF files with PDFMaker, the font characters all show as little squares. I checked MS Word as well, and it has the same issue.
I've checked the font properties in the generated file using the TouchUp Text tool in Acrobat - the font is recognised and embedded. If I try to make changes, I get this error message:
"Some of the characters in the current font are not available, the missing characters will be replaced by place holder characters (maybe dots '.').
"A work around to this is to select another font which contains the characters in the TouchUp Properties dialog.
    "Proceed with replacement?"
I'm using Office 2007 under Windows XP Professional. The font is shareware and unsupported. I'd bet my bottom dollar that the problem isn't in PDFMaker, but I don't know a whole lot about fonts, and I'm not sure how to debug this.
    Can anyone offer any advice?

If you go to the general tab in the Adobe PDF printer properties, there is a button for printing preferences. Select that and go to the Adobe PDF Settings tab. There should be a check box for leaving the log file intact there. You can also simply print to the Adobe PDF printer with print to file selected. Then open the file in Distiller and watch the messages created (these steps are automated if you do not print to file).
You can also check the fonts in the PDF (use ctrl-D, font tab). If they are embedded, that information is stated in parentheses. If there is no statement of embedding, then it did not get done. That is not necessarily an error if the job settings are not set to embed the font.

  • Selecting Embedded Bitmap Text - Problem

I tried to create a Flash TextField, containing Text with
    maximum sharpness.
So i embedded Verdana Font Size 8 as Bitmap Text, and set
sharpness and thickness to my benefits.
Now the Text ist displayed cleary, but if you try to select
or write into the text box it really suxs:
The Cursor position gets a higher distance to the text while
    the text line gets larger.
Anyone know this problem, i searched this forum but i didnt
find a solution about this prob.

I assume you opened a new Gateway session after you have added that parameter and that you see it in the trace file....
There's a trial ODBC driver from DataDirect (www.datadirect.com) available for download and which you can test. Check if that driver works. If yes, make sure you have the latest ODBC driver release applied to your env that matches your configuration and if needed ask the ODBC vendor for help.

  • Embedded italic font using faux italic

I'm experiencing an issue while trying to create an embedded italic font using DefineFont 4. My problem is the font I'm targetting doesn't include an italic variation. Is there a way to create an italic (or bold for that matter) font using faux italic?
    Something like:
    Embed(source='../font_src/myFont.ttf', fontName='_MyFont', cff='true', fontStyle='fauxItalic')]
    public static var _font:Class;
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Disclaimer: I am just guessing on all of this since I have never used that font and I am still on Mac OS 10.5.8.
Are you really on Mac OS 10.6.6? I think I read here that there were some font issues that were fixed with 10.6.7 or an update that came after it. Try downloading the updater and see what that does. Next I would try the font in Pages if you have it. If you don't, try it in TextEdit and see if it works there.
If neither of these work, try to delete the Keynote Preferences to see if there was something there that was messing with the font. You can find it in the folder Macintosh HD>Users>your username>Library>Preferences and the file is called com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist.
