Embedded documents

I receive emails with word document attachments but within that one word document there are embedded documents. How can I open those documents?

Thanks Jason,
I am effectively the security person too!!
I have managed to create the display only roles for document viewing. That works fine although with the display role, the users cannot open the embedded documents within other documents.
They can in change mode, but that really ruins the point of having the display only roles in the first place.
Has anyone found any authorisation settings that mean that you can display documents but also launch their embedded documents without invoking the change mode?

  • How Can I Keep Embedded Documents in a PDF Conversion of a Word Document?

    I am running XP and using Word 2010.  I have a document that contains embedded Word documents.  I can convert the document to PDF but I loose the embedded documents when I do.  Is there a way to keep them available in the PDF version?  I can "attach" them, but don't know how to make those attachments obvious to a reader.
    Any help you can give would be appreciated.

    Something embedded in a Word file isn't going to migrate to PDF with the Word file's "page content".
    If the embedded files are support use Acrobat to convert them to PDF.
    Combine the PDFs.
    Configure this PDF to open with the Bookmarks showing.
    (Document Properties > Initial View)
    Edit / add Bookmarks as desired.
    Be well...

  • How do you keep embedded documents during conversion from Word 2007 to PDF?

    Windows 7, with all available patches.
    Word 2007, with all available patches.
    Acrobat reader 9.3.2
    I have additional documents, spreadsheets etc embedded into a Microsoft Office Word document. When this document is converted to the PDF (using the Word PDF add-in interface) the embedded objects can no longer be opened and only appear as images.
    Is there a way to retain the embedded document during the conversion so that they can be opened from within the resulting PDF?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks very much for your repsonse, it's much appreciated
    I don't have Acrobat X installed at this time so am not able to create or edit PDFs (other than from Word).  I understand that creating a PDF from Word may not be an Acobat issue per se, but thought that someone on this forum may have experienced a similar problem, hence thought I'd try my luck here
    I will do as you suggest and try an MS forum
    Thanks again

  • Embedded document viewer in Flash

    Hi,
    We are looking at provided an embedded document viewer within a website and also within a Flash based applicaiton.  The document viewer would need to display Office documents and PDF documents.  We think Adobe has Flash Paper which fulfills some of these needs but this is no longer supported after it has been acquired from MacroMedia.
    Could any one please provide inputs on any Flash based document viewers that can be embedded in a Flash application?
    Thanks.

    i dont think so that you have a component like that.. my be you can try to build a custom component for that.

  • Viewing Embedded Documents in SOLAR01 / SOLAR02

    Hi there,
    I have noticed that it is not possible to view embedded documents when using the display only mode of SOLAR01 or SOLAR02.
    Is there a solution available that will allow access to view embedded documents without granting full change access to the documents?
    Cheers,

  • Schedule a document / Embedded Document Content

    Hello,
    When I try to schedule  document and send it to an email destination, I can add different placeholders into the body of the message. One of this placeholder is "Embedded Document Content". Do you know what is this functionnality?
    When I add this placeholder, the result in the mail is "%SI_DOCUMENT_HTML_CONTENT%". It seems that this variable is not interpreted. Do you know what is this variable ? Do you know how to define it ?

    I would advise you raise an incident with support, and mention Technical Escalation 5000011318.
    It seems to be a known issue.

  • Opening an embedded document in office web apps

    Hi,
    I have a test site configured to use office web apps and it works to open documents in OWA. I have a requirement to open a powerpoint presentation embedded in page in office web apps. I used the page viewer web part to do the embedding, but the document
    is not opening in office web apps. There is a prompt to open the document in the desktop version of power point. I have checked that the site is configured to open the documents in OWA by default in the site collection features.
    Does anybody have a suggestion on how to fix this?
    thanks
    Sherazad

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to embed a PowerPoint document which is opened in office web apps(OWA) in a page.
    Here are two solution for your reference:
    1.Open the document in OWA, go to File -> Share -> Embed, then copy the Embed Code and add the code into a Content Editor Web Part in the page.
    2.Use Page Viewer web part to achieve it,  we can get the link from the address bar after the document is opened in OWA. The link like this:
    /sites/DennisSite/_layouts/15/WopiFrame.aspx?sourcedoc={D95516CC-6912-4F5B-BF13-C40286BC27A4}&file=Test.pptx&action=default

  • Creating an interactive CV: mouse over / roll over pop ups, embedded documents and videos

    Hi everyone,
    I am pretty new to Adobe Acrobat Pro and new to this forum (1st post here!). Greetings from Spain... and apologies for grammar mistakes and misleading explanations (in advance). I have been checking this forum and googling quite a bit, but I do not get to many conclusions (maybe I sleep few due to our baby!).
    I want to create an interactive CV with the following characteristics:
    1) CV in 1 page in a PDF document (no problem here!)
    2) Hyperlinks in the text which open embedded files (pdf of others) hidden to the viewer but which are in the pdf document. Possible? (I want the recruiter to receive just one file). Even better if they could be open in another window (doubt it).
              How could it be done? I try add documents and they are attached at the end, so the original pdf gets to have more pages, all viewable.
    3) Furthermore, mouse over / roll over pop ups which show you a preview of the file you may open clicking the hyperlink, for a quick view of the content.
              I think that this may be done, but using other programs, like InDesign. I just try to add a document, but it's sort of a link to a document in my computer. I may add pdf, pps files.
    4) Even more, would it be possible to embed a video which would open in a new window? If not, I tried to add a link to youtube and there was a warning as "this program tries to open a window, if you trust the owner... " (similar safety message) and the very last thing I want the recruiter to have to decide whether to decide to watch it or not.
    I know its a questions in its very first stages, but the big point is to know if/what it is possible to do, so that I search in the right direction.
    If you have any idea or advice (even if not related to PDF pro, of course), just please let me know.
    Thanks a lot in advance. I hope this thread may help others.
    Cheers,
    tebanseeker

    Hi Dave,
    Thanks a lot for the input.
    (3) Right, I could not find either a way using just Acrobat Pro (I'm using XI). Sad thing that you confirm it... But it looks like you may do it using other programs on the PDF, but I don't know to use them. You may take a look at this:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEyJuT8SSME (popup rollovers using Illustrator)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOVRMVdZbVE (popup rollovers using InDesign)
    (4) I think that embedding would make the file to big, so I may opt for the hyperlink to youtube option, even if I deeply dislike that message, although youtube is a reliable source for the viewer.
    Any other input is very welcome. I am pretty illiterate in the field!
    Have a nice weekend,

  • Loss of Functionality-Embedded documents

    I am using Acrobat 11.0. In previous versions, I could create a PDF version with embedded docs that opened when you clicked them. It appears that I have lost this fuctionality in Acrobat 11. Is there a setting I need to edit or truly a loss of functionality? Somer of our documents need to be embedded because of access to certain sites not being available.
    Any help will be appreciated

    Hi Cinnponce,
    Have you tried using attachments?
       - View – Show/Hide – Navigation Panes – Attachments
       - Click the Add a new attachment icon.
       - View – Tools – Content Editing and select the Add or Edit Link icon.
       - Select the text/image to create the link.
       - In the Create Link dialog box, select Go to a page view and click Next.
       - In the Attachments pane, double-click the attached file and click on Set Link.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • Is is possible to change the page of an embedded document?

    I've got a PDF that I've embedded into an InDesign document, currently displaying Page 2 of the PDF. Is there an easy way to switch that to Page 3 of the PDF without reinserting it all over again?

    How about adding the three new pages at the end, then moving them to the front (or just adding three new pages to the front)? Is there something else on those pages that needs to remain on that page number?
    You might also want to think about re-importing the whole PDF int a new file. You can do that in a matter of minutes using the script here: InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Zanelli Releases MultiPageImporter for Importing both PDF and INDD Files

  • IWeb • How Do I Make Links in an Embedded PDF Document Open in New Page?

    On this page http://ostyn-newman.com/Gov_Downloads.html I have a PDF document that is embedded.  I tried an IFrame, but everything seemed to work better for me with the "Embed" code.  I am open to changing this if it would be better.  Here's my problem.  I can get the PDF document to display fine, but when I click on the links in the PDF document, the destination page opens in the embedded window.  I want the links to open the destination in a new window.
    I created the part of the document with most of the links (Pages 8.5 - 56) in Numbers and cut and pasted the table into a Pages document to create the completed document on our site.  I exported the docuemnt from Pages as a PDF file which is what you see.  There is also a link to download the file on the same page which works just fine.
    I have tried to insert the target="_blank" code but have not been able to get it to open the destination pages in a new window.  I am inserting the code by using the Insert/Widget/HTML Snippet Feature in IWeb.  Here is the code I am using.
    <embed src=
    "http://ostyn-newman.com/Media/GS27F0026XTextfile.pdf"
    style="width:850px; height:1000px;
    border-width:0px;
    border-color:#FFCC66;
    border-style:solid;"
    scrolling="auto" >
    </embed>
    I am not a coder and have just used Google to find the code to cut and paste and have played around with it to get to the place I am.  If anybody can tweak the code I have or offer some totally new code for me to insert that will get this to work would be greatly appreciated.
    Please keep in mind that most of the people who visit and use this page are government employees and are almost exclusivey using Explorer.

    Thank you Jeff,
    I tried your original suggestion and now my inserted html widget reads
    <embed src=
    "http://ostyn-newman.com/Media/GS27F0026XTextfile.pdf"
    style="width:850px; height:1000px;
    border-width:0px;
    border-color:#FFCC66;
    border-style:solid;"
    scrolling="auto" target="_blank">
    </embed>
    It is live on my site.  You can see that the embedded document still opens the destination links in the embedded window.
    As for your other two suggestions, thank you as well.  I am aware of those techniques and did not use them because that is not how I want the other PDF links on the page to behave.  The catalog and autocad blocks downloads in the box at the top should simply download (or behave however the client's browser is configured to handle downloaded PDF documents or zip files.)  I don't intend to force those to open a new window.  I could also have our client click on a link to the PDF document and open it in a new page (like in your second suggestion) but I was hoping to embed the PDF and have it automatically viewable on our Download • Terms • Prices Page with all of the PDF search functions intact as well as the links be active.  My only complaint at this point is that the links in the embedded PDF document open the destination page in the embed window instead of a new window.  I only want to force a new window because the destination window doesn't behave properly when it opens in my embed window and it is difficult to figure out how to go back to the my PDF document when a destination window gets opened in the embed window.  The code you sent didn't do the trick.  Or maybe I didn't get it exactly right.  That is why I included it above.  Thanks for trying though.  I appreciate the effort.
    I would be willing to bypass the imbed/iFrame route altogether if I could just somehow drop the Pages document into the IWeb page and retain the search and link features, but I've not been able to figure out how to do that.  When I was exploring how to directly drop a Pages document into an IWeb page is when I stumbled on the method of embedding a PDF document into an IWeb page to retain the important search and link features.

  • Embedding a document in BI Publisher template

    I have created a BIP template and I have a requirement to include attachments in the template. These attachments (PDF format) are located in a different server and are supplied as URLs. So basically I need to display the documents embeded from URL into the BI Publisher report. I have managed to get it to work with Images (jpg, gif, png) by inserting a dummy image in the report and including this line of code in the Alt Text: url:{'http://www.test.com/photo1.jpg'}. However this method does not work with documents.
    I tried the following methods but they only work with images. They don't work with documents, i.e. pdf, doc, txt, etc:
    Method 1:
    <fo:external-graphic src="url('http://www.test.jsp?id=121342')"/>
    Method 2:
    <fo:instream-foreign-object content-type="application/pdf">
    <xsl:value-of select="http://www.test.jsp?id=121342"/>
    </fo:instream-foreign-object>
    I read something online about another method <fox:external-document content-type="pdf" src="url('http://www.test.jsp?id=121342')"/>. But I am not sure how to set this up in BI Publisher, because when I tried to use this method, BI Publisher was throwing an error saying forx:external-document not recognised.
    Does anyone know if there is a way of embeding documents read from URL in BI Publisher report?
    Many thanks,
    Agron

  • Word 2010 Document with embedded pdf objects

    Is it possible to convert a word 2010 document with embedded pdf object into a PDF without loosing the functiuonality of double clicking on the Acrobat icon and opening the (embedded) document?
    Thank you for your help.

    Pretty sure that the PDF will contain exactly what you'd get if you printed the Word document. There is no promise or expectation that objects will be "live".
