Embedded Flash not working on Safari/Google Sites not just my system
Hi-
This issue is not limited to my system.
First some information on my system:
Intel based iMac
OS X 10.6.5
Safari Version 5.0.2 (6533.18.5)
Site affected: www.trpeters.com
I uninstalled Flash Player and reinstalled the latest version 3 times yesterday. However, this issue is not limited to this computer alone and I am more concerned about others not being able to view my work on their computers.
The slideshow does not show up on Safari on this computer or on my windows machine. I had a friend check from her computer in a separate location and a totally different connection and she cannot see it either. I have tested it on Chrome and Firefox and it is visible.
Here is the embedded code generated by Zenfolio:
<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" quality="high" width="640" height="480" align="" src="http://cdn.zenfolio.net/zf/code/slideshow/embedded.swf" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" allowFullScreen="false" flashvars="id=921220293&background=0x000000&delay=3&transition=4&loop=1&random= 0&allowfs=0&allowthumbs=0&showlink=0&allowtitles=0&showtitles=0&autostart=1&allo wtopbar=0&allowcontrols=0&transparent=0&loopmusic=1&frame=0x000000&preloader=http%3A%2F%2Fcdn.zenfolio.net%2Fzf%2Fcode%2Fsli deshow%2F002.swf&preloaderparams=color%3D0xffffff"></embed>
The slide show does play in the preview window when I generate it on zenfolio.
When I insert the HTML code into my Google site at www.trpeters.com the slideshow will play in a preview pane.
When I click update the slide show disappears and a blank Google gadget box appears.
The gadget shows this code snippet embedded. I am not an HTML coder so I am not sure if it has changed in any way:
<embed xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" align="" allowFullScreen="false" flashvars="id=921220293&background=0x000000&delay=3&transition=4&am p;loop=1&random=0&allowfs=0&allowthumbs=0&showlink=0&allowti tles=0&showtitles=0&autostart=1&allowtopbar=0&allowcontrols=0&am p;transparent=0&loopmusic=1&frame=0x000000&preloader=http%3A%2F%2Fcdn.zenfolio.net%2Fzf%2Fco de%2Fslideshow%2F002.swf&preloaderparams=color%3D0xffffff" height="480" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" quality="high" src="http://cdn.zenfolio.net/zf/code/slideshow/embedded.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" />
When I preview from within the gadget I get a blank brown screen., not black?
And when I click OK I just get a black 640x480 box which you should be able to see from within Safari yourself. This used to work fine. I don't know what has changed to make it non-functional.
Thank you,
Tim
HI,
Click your Apple menu / Software Updates. Safari 5.0.3 is available for download. Make sure and repair permissions after the update is installed.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
And delete the Flash cache. Instructions on this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11672709

Blend Overlay is not working in Safari over site's background image
My message is concerning the website (below) called
suspendedinsound.com.
The blend mode, Overlay, is not working on several of my
movie clips in the Safari browser.
The Flash swf and html is published with a transparent
background. I put a bg image (via CSS) in the html code. The
objects with overlay (the large animating gold rings and
play/stop/mute buttons), are not "overlaying" over the html's
background image. They look yellow or cream instead of being very
subtle (dark reddish brown). This is only a problem in the Safari
browser. Looks great in Firefox and IE.
Anybody have a solution?
Thanks

http://www.suspendedinsound.comTransparent background is a less than robust publishing
option for Flash. As you've seen, it can produce some unreliable
results. -

Edited by: 951029 on Aug 6, 2012 4:01 AMFlash is totally unrelated to Java, so what you're saying is that certain plugins are not working under Safari of which one just happens to be Java. You're the second one I see make mention of that, but the fact remains that you'd need to ask Apple what is going on with their browser.

Embedded Flash videos play on 32 bit Win7, not on 64 bit Win7, IE9 32 bit
Hello,
I have two PCs. One is running 32 bit Win7 SP1, the other 64 bit Win 7 SP1. Both have IE9 32 bit and the latest version of Flash 32 bit, 10.3.183.7. This page http://www.iorr.org/talk/read.php?1,999739 and others at iorr.org have embedded YouTube Flash videos. On the 32 bit machine, they play fine on both Admin and Standard accounts. On the 64 bit machine, the embedded videos are only visible on the Admin account. Standard accounts show an empty box with a broken icon symbol where the video should be. (Note: not trying to use IE9 64 bit.)
I've spent a couple hours uninstalling and reinstalling Flash trying to see the videos on a Standard account on the 64 bit PC. Nothing works. Any suggestions? Note that normal Flash videos work fine on the 64 bit PC Standard accounts. Only embedded videos fail.
During this exercise, I noticed that the 32 bit PC has the Flash Player Control Panel under Control Panel->System and Security. The 64 bit PC does not have it there, but I can manually bring it up from a CPL file in the SysWOW64 folder. Not sure if that's part of the problem or a different problem.
Thanks for your time.I spent hours and hours on the same problem. My computer has a slightly different configuration. I am using Win7 32 bit, but experienced the same problems. Embedded Flash is working under Admin account, but not under other accounts. Many de-installs and re-installs, but nothing seemed to help. Until I found this internet post:
http://superuser.com/questions/244316/embedded-video-is-not-shown-in-internet-explorer-9-r c-or-beta
The solution offered in that post solved all my problems. Hurray!!!
Solution:
* Open REGEDIT
* Find the following key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-shockwave-flash
* Delete the key
* Re-install flash
* Problem solved (in my case)
In the replies of the above mentioned link another solution was given (in stead of deleting the key)
* Right click the above mentioned key
* Change the access rights and allow all users read access to the key (did not check this myself)
In order to keep the solution safe in this thread, please find a copy of the info in the link above here:
In IE 9 RC or in beta, the embedded video is not shown in the web page. I verified the security settings in "internet options". Did not find any issue. Please find the screen shot below. I am able to view the flash videos in Youtube. But, for some reason, in some sites the embedded video is not shown.
I don't have this issue with Firefox.
UPDATE:
I am able to see view the embedded video in Admin account. But not able to view it in Standard account.
UPDATE:
As it works as administrator, use Process Monitor and filter the Status on ACCESS DENIED.
This allows you to troubleshoot what key the iexplore.exe process can't access.
@TomWij, Thanks for the suggestions. The Process Monitor hint helped to nail down the issue. When run with standard privileges, it is getting "ACCESS DENIED" for reading the key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-shockwave-flash.
When I elevated the privilege to Admin account, it did not have any issue. Then I uninstalled flash, deleted the registry key and then installed flash again. Now, I am able to view the embedded video in standard account. -
Google Voice Widget Not Working in Safari 5.1 which is Adobe flash wmode transparent based
Google Voice Widget Not Working in Safari 5.1 which is Adobe flash with wmode transparent set. For that matter all flash text fields in Safari 5.1 are not working accross the web when wmode is set to transparent. This is a Safari bug! Other browsers work fine.
Well after much research Adobe flash text field with wmode transparent set is not working in Safari 5.1 when any flash object has the wmode set to "transparent", or "opaque". The problem is many site must layer flash objects with html so the wmode transparent must be used.
Affecting sites like BEST BUY, WALMART, CVS, STAPLES, Chechout their flash based weekly ads and find one that you need to update the quantity in the flash pop-up and the text field with keyboard strokes will not work. Flash text fields were all working fine until several month ago when Safari rolled out 5.1 working for Google Voice Flash based widget which uses the wmode transparent. HELP!

If not working for you, try clearing your cache to remove any old, non working versions.
Test on some other machine besides yours.
Code looks fine and seems to work.

You tube and flash not working in safari
Is anyone finding that you tube and embedded flash video is not working using safari 6? the video window in youtube is blank, I don't even see the control buttons, flash videos embedded on other sites are similarly blank. Quick check with Firefox shows all these films play normally.
Not sure if this is relateted but as I am having the same problem, I am only having the issue on the account that has Parental Controls enabled. The admin account can open youtube just fine. The Java plug in boxes are checked, I am running in 32 bit mode. I've tried every fix I have come accross to no avail.
On a side note, ever since I installed Mountain Lion, the Mac App Store is also sketchy. The account with Parental Controls can't log in, when I click "sign in" nothing happens. No 3rd party apps such as APE or FruitMenu installed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. -
Flash has been buggy for me in Safari 5, ever since I updated the Flash player last week to "10.1 r53". Either Flash files don't play at all, or just the audio plays without video.
Per the instructions on these boards, I have:
1. reset Safari
2. uninstalled flash player
3. installed the flash player
4. repaired permissions
5. restarted
The issue is still there. Firefox plays Flash files, YouTube, etc. just fine. Safari does not.
I'm running SL 10.6.4, latest Software Updates.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!I created a new account. Flash works in the new account. That's cool, but I really don't want to re-locate all my prefs, etc., just for a buggy plugin.
So, I next...
1. grabbed the Safari plist from the new account
2. logged out of the new account
3. logged into the old account (where Flash does not work)
4. moved the old account's com.apple.safari plist file out of the Preferences folder
5. moved the clean Safari plist file (from the new account) into the Preferences folder
6. reset and restarted Safari
7. Flash worked...for about two minutes. I tested on YouTube, Vimeo and Google Analytics. Back to Flash not working in Safari.
I then tried repeating the earlier steps.
1. reset Safari
2. uninstall flash player
3. install flash player
4. repaired permissions
5. restarted
Still doesn't work.
Just one other thing to note: whenever I pull up a web page with Flash, I get a "file not found" error in Safari's activity monitor (link is below)...could this be an error with Adobe's website rather than a Safari-permission thing?

If you look at the "More Like This" box (top right), other threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads. It appears you are not the only two having this problem.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

YouTube will not work on safari for me on the ipad. Is there anyway to fix this? I can go anywhere else on the internet fine and it works on google chrome, but on safari it shows a blank screen with the bar on top after it loads, if it's even loading at all.
I do not know if it's relevant or not, but I got a message on my ipad while on safari saying that my iPhone has a virus. I looked it up and it seems it might have just been an ad from the website I was on, but it happened around the same time YouTube stopped working. You will find that using the YouTube app will provide a better viewing experience for YouTube videos.

Mac OS X 10.5.8
Safari 5.0.6
Flash Player 10.3.183.10
Flash Player10.3.183.10 will not work in Safari on Mac OS x 10.5.8
The instillation says that it is successful, however when using Safari I'm informed I do not have flash player installed. When I check the hard drive, flash player in no where to be found. I have tried all of the troubleshooting from the Adobe website, and I am still stumped. I was able to get the Flash Player to run in firefox 5.0, but not Safari.
Please Help!!!! I have searched the discussion boards for days now in my spare time and have not been able to find an answer.
I am not the most savvy person with computers, what am I missing here??In my Library/Internet Plug-ins folder I have a file named Flash Player.plugin (it's 22.8 MB however, not 23.9mb) and another named flashplayer.xpt (it's 4 KB however, not856 bytes).
I am unable to open the Plug-Ins menu (the browser pops up but wont load)...is there another way to check for Shockwave Flash?? When I do a search for "Shockwave" on my hard drive I do find a plug-in named "DirectorShockwave.plugin" (76 KB)
Also...The "Open using Rosetta" checkbox was already unchecked -
Adobe Flash Player does not work with Safari. What can I do?
Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro, Retina, 15 inch, late 2013, 2 GHz Intel Core i7, using OS X 10.9.4. I have installed Adobe Flash Player. In my System Preference, in the advanced settings, it is set to install updates also tells me that I have the NPAPI Plug-in (version 14.0.0.145) installed but not the PPAPI Plug-in. Is this the reason why it does not work with Safari (keeps telling me to download the app, which I did but still does not work)? Is there any way I could fix the problem? Please, help.
Thanks. If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
Step 4
a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
Stop plug-ins to save power
Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
Then click the button marked
Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
Step 9
Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
