Embedded fonts in SVG not working?

CS3, CS4 - is it just me, or is the SVG import really broken? even if I make a new file with Illustrator, save as SVG and choose to embed fonts, Illustrator still reports a missing font when I remove the font from the system and then try to open that file again.
I have tried both CEF and SVG embed types. Curves are not an option, because text needs to remain editable.
Any ideas?

anyone?

  • Has anyone got embedded fonts in SVG to work on Mac OS X Lion?

    I have used CS3, CS4 suite versions of illustrator on Snow leopard, and embedding fonts worked correctly,
    but on several computers at work here, none of the CS5 or CS5.5 suite versions of illustrator embed fonts in SVG format on Lion.
    I have also tried CS4 on Lion and still does not work...
    Saving as SVG without fonts works fine,
    Saving with fonts shows error message and no fonts are ever brought over.
    This shows brand new ai file with a text box and three letters in standard font:
    This shows saving as SVG to documents folder  (does not matter where saving to, issue still exists):
    This shows the SVG options (Note font is SVG, subsetting is common english and glyphs used.)
    Error message:
    Does not matter how many fonts are attempted to be embedded, no fonts (with glyphs translation) ever show up on the svg file.
    Any suggestions?
    Other than
    reinstall lion completely, then reinstall CS5 then CS5.5(DONE, does not work)
    reinstall lion completely, then reinstall CS5.5 only(DONE, does not work)

    This is what i currently have to do:
    Currently i use a secondary PPC computer with leopard 10.5 and Illustrator CS3 on it, and save the file as svg using those settings (fonts).
    Open the CS3 svg in text edit
    Copy fonts created in CS3 and then paste in CS5 svg file which i created on the intel computer with lion (mac 10.7)
    Also tested this in mountain lion 10.8, still same error, have to do this stupid workaround for now....

  • I have iphone 4s and just bought an ebook for ibook, trouble is the font is so tiny I can't read it and the font sizer is not working? Please help!

    Hi, I have the  iphone 4s and just bought an ebook for ibook, trouble is the font is so tiny I can't read it and the font sizer is not working? Please help!

    Hello Glittergirl68,
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like the function to reseize the Font in an iBook is not functioning properly.
    I recommend a few things here. First close all the apps that are running in the background:
    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it.
    From: iOS: Force an app to close
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    When you have done that, restart the phone, and try again.
    If the issue persists, I would follow these steps from the article:
    iOS: Troubleshooting apps purchased from the App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
    2. Check for app updates
    You can setup apps to update automatically in Settings > iTunes & App Store, but make sure that your apps are up to date:
    Open the App Store and tap Updates. If updates are available, tap Update All.
    If  prompted, enter your iTunes Store account information. App Store will then download and install the app updates.
    Note: Some apps may require a Wi-Fi connection to update.
    3. Install another app from the App Store
    If none of your user-installed apps will launch, there could be an issue with Apple ID authorization. Download and install an app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information. You can also remove an app from your iOS device and download it again from the App Store or sync the app from your computer.Note: If you have installed apps using multiple Apple ID accounts, you may need to perform this step for each account.
    4. Restart the app
    If the issue affects only a single app, try closing just that app.
    5. Restart your device
    Turn the device off and on.
    6. Reinstall the affected app
    Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
    Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-right corner of the app.
    Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
    Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
    Press the Home button.
    Go to the App Store.
    Search for the app and then download it again.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Embedded FLV Cue Points not working

    I am updating a project which uses an FLVPlayback component to play and navigate FLV videos using embedded Navigation cue points. The FLVs were originally encoded using an older version of AME, CS4 possibly. When trying to replace an FLV with a new one encoded using AME CS6, the embedded cue points do not work. Testing in Flash I get "VideoError: 1003: Invalid seek" when attempting to use "seekToNavCuePoint".
    Comparing the two FLVs using Premiere shows no recognizable differences between them. They are the same format, their cue points are named identically, all are designated as Flash Cue Points, and all set to type "Navigation".
    Digging into the FLV data, I've found that the cue point descriptions are formatted quite differently and I'm wondering if this is the source of the problem:
    Excerpt from the original FLV (AME CS4?):
         <rdf:li>
          <rdf:Description
           xmpDM:trackName="AME Markers"
           xmpDM:frameRate="f254016000000">

             xmpDM:startTime="9323149248000"
             xmpDM:name="q1in"
             xmpDM:type="FLVCuePoint"
             xmpDM:cuePointType="Navigation"/>
    Excerpt from the new FLV (AME CS6):
         <rdf:li>
          <rdf:Description
           xmpDM:trackName="FLVCuePoint"
           xmpDM:trackType="FLVCuePoint"

              </rdf:Seq>
             </xmpDM:cuePointParams>
             </rdf:Description>
            </rdf:li>
    Completely stumped here, any ideas appreciated!

    More digging into the new FLV shows that while XMP defines the cue points as type "navigation", there is prior data in the file that defines all the cue points as "event". This makes sense, because my SWF is correctly listening for and reacting to an "end" cue point in the FLV, but will not seek to any cue point since they are all set as "event".
    Copying and pasting from Notepad++:
    cuePoints       0       name   q1in  time @BYûçl‹D  type   event
      1       name   q1out  time @JÜ(õ\  type   event

    Any idea why AME is doing this?

  • Embedded font issues -- Flex not measuring properly

    I started this out in one thread ( http://forums.adobe.com/thread/470702 ) and it has progressed into a new, bigger issue. I embedded fonts using the code below.  Flex is not measuring them properly or the font I'm using is vertically challenged.  I suspect the font I am embedding has different vertical spacing than the default font.  I have determined the fonts are embedding by rotating the containers.
    Here's an example of what I'm getting:
    The right side radio button is the raw display (height works out to 23), the left side radio button I forced the height to 15.  Both the radio buttons are set to exactly the same y coordinate.  You can see the right hand text is not centered on the radio button.  I don't want to go thru the hassle of adjusting every single component height to make the font look centered plus that's an ugly workaround.
    I don't think there is anything wrong with my code nor do I think a font swf will help.  I sure would like to know what's going on but it is beyond my understanding.  Here's my thought.  I like the default font the compiler uses when I DON"T embed fonts, looks like this:
    I figure if I could embed this font, everything would work properly.  I just don't where this font lives.  The docs indicate the default font is _serif but it looks more like _sans to me.  And I don't know the hierarchy for my platform.
    So...  Does anyone know either how to fix this measurement issue or where I can find THE True Type font or swf or something that Flex uses as a default so I could embed it?
    /* CSS file */
    @font-face {
    font-family: MainFont;
    src: url("assets/fonts/verdana.TTF");
    unicode-range: U+0020-U+007E;
    advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    @font-face {
    font-family: MainFont;
    src: url("assets/fonts/verdanab.TTF");
    unicode-range: U+0020-U+007E;
    advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    fontWeight: bold;
    @font-face {
    font-family: MainFont;
    src: url("assets/fonts/verdanai.TTF");
    unicode-range: U+0020-U+007E;
    advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    fontStyle: italic;
    @font-face {
    font-family: MainFont;
    src: url("assets/fonts/verdanaz.TTF");
    unicode-range: U+0020-U+007E;
    advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    fontWeight: bold;
    fontStyle: italic;
    global {
    font-family: MainFont;

    First off, yes there was a correction to the left hand radio button.  I forced the height of the button to be different and that seemed to help center things
    After a bit of beating my head against the way, I decided to run a simpler test.  I set up a case where I had default fonts side by side with embedded fonts.  Since my default.css file had Verdana I decided to use a Verdana embedded font.  I figured I could compare them directly and maybe play with advanced anti-aliasing at the same time.  I've attached the files (change the txt extension to mxml)
    The result was a somewhat of a surprise.  I didn't realize that all text really wasn't centered on the component (eg radio button, checkbox) at my default size and below.  I do see the small pixel shift, especially in the Button.
    So...  I have found the "real" font declaration in the defaults.css file, am seeing the small pixel shift with embedded fonts, that using advanced anti-aliasing  can help on smaller text, and realized I have to be very careful where I use font sizes smaller than default.  I'm guessing that the "perfect" default size on my system would be 12 since that appears what my Verdana.ttf font is based on.  My defaults.css file has the font size set at 10.  The inability to measure properly is exacerbated when the fonts are embedded.
    Now the real question -- anyone have a clever fix?

  • Embedded glyphs for alpha not working for non-Latin letters

    Even after reading through all the posts here, I'm still
    confused about why embedding is necessary for alphas on text and
    how embedding works, so maybe someone can sort it out and help me
    with my problem:
    I have a FLA that is trying to present the same script in
    (the user's choice of) several languages -- including non-Latin
    alphabets like Korean, Japanese, Russian, Chinese and Arabic. I'm
    using the Strings library to load translations into my text movie
    clips on the stage.
    The language stuff works great except that alpha tweens
    weren't working. So I selected the movie clip symbols (three of
    them) in the library and told Flash to embed all glpyhs. Each of
    these symbols is using Trebuchet MS, so my thinking is that I'm not
    exceeding the 65K limit because I'm embedding the same glyphs for
    each. (But I'm not sure if that limit is for the SWF or per
    symbol.) I only have one other font in the FLA and for that one,
    I'm just embedding English alpha characters.
    (Perhaps as an aside, I also included these fonts Stone Sans
    and Trebuchet MS as fonts in my library, but I don't understand
    whether this is absolutely necessary or if embedding glyphs
    eliminates the need for these.)
    So with those glyphs embedded, my text alpha tweens work
    beautifully. However -- and this is where I begin to shed tears --
    all the Korean and Cyrillic text is gone. It's just punctuation and
    no characters. I don't have Chinese, Japanese or Arabic text loaded
    yet, but I imagine that these would suffer from the same problem.
    What am I doing wrong? Do I need to create more than one
    movie to achieve my multilanguage goal? (Or worse, render each
    language separately? -- yuck!) In my old version of Flash (just
    up'd to CS3) I could tween alpha text with no problem, so why is
    all this embedding even necessary?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Is this just impossible? Or really hard?

  • Font Auto-Activation Not Working After First Use

    Anyone else seeing this problem, or have a fix? Font auto-activation stops working after the first use. Here's what happens: Open a file that contains a font that is installed, but is disabled in Font Book. The dialog box "Application wants to use the font XXX". Click on Allow. The font will be available, as you expect. Now quit the application. Open the file again - you won't get the dialog box asking permission to use the font, and the font is not available. This happens in Pages 3.0.1 and TextEdit 1.5. It happens for each individual font - in other words, continuing my description, if you now open a second file that has another font that is disabled in Font Book, you'll be asked permission to use it. But once you've allowed a particular font to be used, you won't be asked permission again.

    Make a backup.  Restore the device as new.  Test the issue again.  If it persists, your device needs service.  If the issue disappears, restore your backup.  If it then reappears, then there is some form of corrupt data on the device from the backup.  You'll have to restore that data one portion at a time to determine what is causing it, or set up the device as new.

  • Changing the font size does not work with Textarea with HTML Editor

    If you change the font size in the text area of a "Textarea with HTML Editor" item it does not work. I've searched the forum and the only solution I've seen is to use an HTML editor foriegn to APEX. Does anyone have a better solution? Thanks, Elizabeth

    I'm having a similar issue except with HTML Editor Standard.
    What I'm doing is allow someone to write to an HTML Editor Standard field and then an HTML marked up text is saved to a db CLOB column. In another page, I reference this DB column and show it in an HTML Region (I do a computation Before Regions for a hidden item that writes out the html with "htp.p")
    Everything shows up fine EXCEPT the font tags and headings. I'm finding that the HTML Region sets the font size only with the < d i v s t y l e="font-size: large" >and NOT < f o n t size:6 >. When the HTML Editor renders the user's text input, any size changes are made with the < f o n t > tag, which is depreciated anyways, and not with "style". That's why the size is not showing up.
    I can't really figure out why the headings aren't showing up except maybe the css style in the region is overridding it...
    Is there another APEX item type like HTML Editor (which uses FCKEditor) that I can use, or maybe another approach to remedy this issue? Or maybe this post calls for an enhancement with the HTML Editor?{size}{size}

  • Sonata font on MacOS - not working correctly

    Hi,
    I just downloaded and installed the Sonata Standard OpenType file via FontBook in MacOS 10.9.2. So far the font is not working correctly in either MS Word or Apple Keynote -- I get standard qwerty letters rather than musical notation. Anyone ideas on how to fix/troubleshoot?
    Thanks!

    Hello RKmark,
    Thank you for going through the process of using those custom keyboard layouts. It was my pleasure to work on those some years ago.
    There is a reason why the placement of some characters on those custom layouts seems arbitrary: They were intended to replace the experience a user would have when using the same PostScript font, which was directly mapped to the characters available on the keyboard. Of course they could be re-arranged today – but that would mean opening a whole different project; and would probably question some of the semantics within Sonata.
    Back to your problem:
    I just tested the keyboard layout for Sonata, together with the Sonata OTF in InDesign, and I did not find any problems.
    Of course this does not help you. So let me just describe what I did:
    I copied the OTF file, to ~/Library/Fonts
    I copied SonataStd.keylayout to ~/Library/Keyboard Layouts
    Admittedly, in OSX Mavericks it is a bit more complicated to install a custom keyboard layout:
    In System Preferences, go to Keyboard and Input Sources.
    Click the + button at the bottom left, scroll down the list and select “Others”.
    In the list to the right, you will find a “SonataStd” keyboard layout, it has a grey icon. Click Add.
    After adding this layout, you will be taken back on the Input Sources screen. Check the box next to Show Input in menu in menu bar if it is not yet active.
    Back in InDesign, create a new text box, select SonataStd, and choose the SonataStd keyboard layout from the menu bar (marked by the flag of the country representing your keyboard).
    Now you can begin typing. I could type the sixteenth-note-rest on a US keyboard with alt-x.
    However, one thing I have observed:
    If you have set any custom keyboard shortcuts in InDesign that are using the alt-key; they might get in the way of typing some of the symbols.
    Which of the available symbols in Sonata are you missing in the custom keyboard layout? I tested them all, and could type everything.
    What sometimes happens is that the keyboard layout will switch back to default (US in my case), which then looks like the Sonata keyboard layout is not working.
    My personal opinion on this: The keyboard layouts are a nice idea for making glyphs accessible to users that don’t have a glyph palette, but they can be very confusing. They will interfere with the normal usage of the application and OS, since standard keyboard shortcuts will no longer work – simply because they rely on the standard keyboard layout of your system.
    Personally, I would use the glyph palette in most cases, simply because switching keyboard layouts back and fort would get to tedious for me.
    I hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions.

    Anyone can help? Thanks

    This is mostly an Apple issue and you should discuss it with them. Oracle Support has authored some documents on the subject, but because it is really an Apple issue, you probably will be best served contacting them. Basically, Apple has put Java on lockdown. If you want it to work make some setting changes. There are numerous web site that are talking about the new restrictions. A simple Google search will get you started.

  • Embedded drag and drop not working

    Hi,
    Hoping someone can help as have got 90% of the way through a project and hit a wall at the final (end-of-level-baddie) problem.
    I'm currently embedding old AS2 activities (build by a second party - now not operating/contactable) into a new AS3 menu system.
    Most of them I've managed to port across and embed without issue. Unfortunately embedding the drag and drop activity is proving to be, for want of a better phrase, a complete drag.
    I've managed to decompile the code, so have put a few trace statements in to find out what might be going wrong. Looking in the collision detection part of the code, the problem appears to be that when the activity is embedded, although the index of the drag clip is returned fine with its corresponding index number, the index of the drop clip is returned as 'undefined'.
    The activity works fine in a standalone flash player, with both indexes returning their respective numbers. However not so when it's embedded.
    I'm guessing that this is a levels issue, but is there any easy way that I can force the AS2 drag and drop game to act as self-contained and ignore its parent holding clip?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi kglad,
    Thanks for replying (you've helped me out before :-)  )
    A search of the classes reveals only one mention of getDepth() on a text field, which is irrelevant at the mo (as the engine's just creating image drag and drops)
    The main activity stage is created by an EngineClass (which drives all the activities I've been adapting, but wasn't a problem with less layer critical ones).
    There are three lines I can see where the activity stage is created using 'getNextHighestDepth()'
    this.mWhere.createEmptyMovieClip("activity_mc", this.mWhere.getNextHighestDepth());
    this.mWhere.createEmptyMovieClip("activityMask_mc", this.mWhere.getNextHighestDepth());
    this.mWhere.createEmptyMovieClip("toolbars_mc", this.mWhere.getNextHighestDepth());
    All the drags and drops are then created within this activity_mc. When I run the activity as standalone (where it works), and drag an item onto a drop zone, the traces I set up on the Drag and Drop items report back the following:
    DragObject: _level0.activity_mc.container_mc.dropItem2.dropSkin.greyBorder.whiteBG
    DropArea: _level0.activity_mc.container_mc.dropItem2.dropSkin.greyBorder
    When I run it embedded in the AS2 wrapper it then fires back the following after an attempted drop:
    DragObject: undefined
    DropArea: undefined
    ...and the item refuses to drop on the dropzone, returning to where it came from.
    The tiny amount of knowledge I have makes me (probably mistakenly) assume that if I could place the activity_mc layer on root, then everything would be contained within the embedded clip and the layering wouldn't go so wonky. But in reality I've got no idea! To make matters worse, the original drag and drop activity is itself inside another as2 wrapper which contains some navigation buttons...

    I don't know anyone who likes that an opened image is always locked. And if you want to do something you need to get rid of the lock. And yes, there are work arounds to do that.  Can you add a preference option to turn off the backround lock default.
