Embedded fonts still print garbage to any printer

Hello,
I'm using Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.08 and even though I can't find anything wrong with the document or settings I'm using, I still can't print without getting font substitutions to garbage characters.
Preflight shows all fonts are embedded, but that they can't map to unicode.See example report below
Fonts are:
Type 1 font: "EX_CFF_Frutiger_LT_Std_45_Light"
Type 1 font: "EX_CFF_Frutiger_LT_Std_45_LightBold"
Type 1 font: "EX_CFF_Frutiger_LT_Std_55_Roman"
Type 1 font: "EX_CFF_Lucida_Console"
Type 1 font: "EX_CFF_USPS_Bar_Code"
Tried different printers as well as MS XPS Document Writer.
Tried all recommended things in the adobe web support docs.
Tried searching google and forums for solutions.
Tried rewriting the document.
Tried various preflight fixes.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Brian

I know this is an old thread, but I was just wondering if anyone knows a solution to this.  I have an issue which seems similar...
I have a user that is having a problem printing some PDF files.  Many print fine, but some print junk text... sometime the entire document and other times just part of the text.  For example, on a document that prints incorrectly the word "Quotation" displays fine on the screen but prints out like this "œ´±¨ø¨∑±≤".  It prints this way across every printer, including printing it back to a pdf file or to a Microsoft xps document.  When other users on the network print the exact same document to the exact same printers (same driver) it prints out fine.  Here's the steps I have taken so far:
- Completely uninstalled Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Reader and reinstalled both (and each one individually to see if   that made any difference).  One time I actually went though the registry and deleted every reference to Acrobat that I could find.
- Tried to print the document as an image.
- Verified all the printing and Acrobat settings against a machine that I know is working fine.
- Replaced as many Windows system fonts as I could.
I've been working on this for weeks and there are probably other things I have tried, but those are the ones I can think of right now.  My next step is to just go onsite to the client, format the hard drive and start from scratch, but I'd really like to avoid doing that.  If anyone could help me out with a solution, I would really appreciate it.  Thanks.

  • Cannot extract the embeded font 'KDGXKF+TTF5BC9A0t00'.Some characters may not display or print correctly.

I am currently using Adobe Reader version 9.1.3. When I open certain files, it displays the following message, "Cannot extract the embeded font 'KDGXKF+TTF5BC9A0t00'.Some characters may not display or print correctly". Some fonts are actually missing and will not display when printing. I have tried updating adobe but the problem still persists. Under file properites, the following font TTF5BC9A0t00 is recognised by Adobe as true type and custom encoding. Anyone has any suggestions for fix??

BUT, does it say "embedded" or "embedded subset" next to the font name. If not, the font isn't included in the file and if you don't have it, it can't display or print it.
The file creator will need to embed the fonts properly although "some" fonts don't allow embedding. This could be one of them.

  • Print PDF without embedded fonts (for USPTO)

I need to print PDFs that can be uploaded to the US PTO, and for them to be compatible they must not have any embedded fonts. I am using the Acrobat XI Distiller with the configuration file downloaded directly from the PTO website http://www.uspto.gov/ebc/portal/efs/uspto.joboptions, but the fonts are still being embedded. Is there any way to get the PDF distiller to not embed any fonts?

The .joboptions file that your posting points to very specifically requests that all fonts be embedded, subsetted!!!
Thus, if you are using these joboptions to produce PDF, you are getting exactly what the joboptions call for.
If someplace on the US Patent and Trademark Office website is telling you to not embed fonts and then provides these joboptions, then they are giving you conflicting information!
However, searching that website, I found instructions for PDF file creation such as at <EFS-Web PDF Guidelines> and the attached PDF file from the website.
In fact, the US Patent and Trademark Office absolutely requires that you embed all fonts.

I have been getting the error....
Cannot extract the embedded font 'EX_CFF_Arial_Black'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.
I have tried to look online to figure this out but I have had no luck.  If anyone has any suggestions to fix this I would love to hear them.  Thanks!

Just to let you know, for anyone else with this problem. I had this problem occur on a MAC when you tried to do save to PDF in excel. This was all happening at the point of generation of the PDF in my case.
The fix was to delete ALL the microsoft preferences, but perahps only the font cache needed to be deleted.
I deleted the following areas from the local users userprofile on the mac. On windows, I would probably log in as a differnet user to try to see if the problem just exsists for one particular user.
Here are the sections I deleted:
    Library/caches/metadata/Microsoft*
Username/library/preferences/com.microsoft* ( and anyhting with microsoft in it)
I did leave the entourage settings though.
hope it helps someone with a similar issue.

  • Error message from Adobe Reader. cannot extract the embedded font 'LICCMC+MyriadPro-Light'. some characters may not display or print correctly. Print looks like gibberish

Trying to view/print PDF documents from website. Print looks like gibberish and is unreadable. Problem is with the embedded fonts. Error message from Adobe says cannot extract the embedded font 'LICCMC+MyriadPro-Light'. some characters may not display or print correctly.

Try Adobe support, that's not a Firefox support issue. <br />

  • Cannot extract the embedded font 'F2'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.

This question was previously published but no answer has been found.
    Error message is :
"Cannot extract the embedded font 'F2'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
Many pdf documents display this error with Adobe Reader 8.1.0. We have errors for embedded fonts 'F0','F3','F7' and so on.
It looks like a Adobe Reader bug because :
    - All PDF files can be opened with Acrobat Reader 5.0.5, 6.x and 7.x, can't be opened with 8.1.0 version.
    - the 8.1.1 update removes only the bug for 'F0' error message (issue #1572280).
    The solution :
    - to publish a 8.1.2 update to fix this important bug
    - is there a registry parameter or tool option to disable the checking added in 8.x version of Adobe Reader ? The 8.x version catches more errors to be compliant with Adobe specification but Adobe reader must be
compliant with all documents generated by third party products.
This Adobe Reader bug applies to Windows Vista, XP Pro SP2, 2000.
    Thx,
    Regards

  • Embedded fonts in pdfs not printing correctly

Since updating to 10.5, I've run into a really annoying problem: when printing pdfs, many embedded fonts will not print correctly. Korinna, for example, prints as something totally different. I've tried using both Preview and Adobe Reader, and no luck. Help!

  • Why do PDFs created with some print presets show the error message "cannot extract embedded font."

Whenever I create a pdf from InDesign using a press-quality preset, I get an error message upon opening the file. The error message says that an embedded font cannot be extracted.
InDesign indicates the font is not present in the file.
In Acrobat's properties, the font in the error message is listed and shows that it is not embedded, and that the actual font is unknown.
Running the "embed fonts" from preflight fixups doesn't help.

Found this fix in Preflight: Under prepress, I selected my destination, which is sheetfed offpress (CMYK) and ran the analyze and fix. The updated file opened without the error message.

  • Font in print out of smartform

    Hi All,
I have uploaded a font and it is maintained in both Font & Printer Family. I have created a STYLE for the font and using the same in my Smartform.
When i see the preview of the Smartform, the font is displayed large + Bold ( as per our requirement).
But when i take a print out, a small size font is printed.
Any pointers for the same would be helpful.
Ps. : The font is printed correctly when logged on with EN language but when logged on with JA language then it doesnt print correctly though it displays correctly in print preview.
    Best regards,
    Prashant

    Hi,
The settings mentioned by Kishan are already in place. Still it doesnt give the desired output.
Also, this is a new Form created in English language.
I have tried the existing fonts as well as uploading fonts, but still no +ve results.
Also, could someone please explain, why the font through STYLE can be entered only of max size 99.00. But in PRINTER the font for 120,160 is also maintained.
    Thanks,
    Best regards,

  • Verdana Font not printing properly using Vista and Acrobat Pro v8

Has anyone got any ideas as to how I can fix this problem.  When I send a word doc to the pdf printer that is all in verdana font it prints out gibberish, however, if in aerial or times new roman thats fine.  I'm using Vista and printing via a terminal server.

    S.D.A
I'm sorry but I'm not if the font is embedded as I expect it is, as I have no problem printing the font on various personal computers I use.  However, the user that I am trying to support is having problems.
Previously when we were using Windows XP Pro and Acrobat Pro v8 and the user had no problems printing over the LAN.  We recently moved and ugraded our systems to Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista and printing via Terminal Services.  The fault may lie with the pinter drivers not being installed on the Terminal Server, but I'm not sure I just need someone to confirm they have had the same problem and how they fixed it.
    Any suggestions would be greatful.

  • TrueType font in printing

    Hi all,
Why we are not using Truetype Font in printing. In my concern all the jobs having OTF and Postscript font. Which one is better for printing. I don't have knowledge fully. Can anyone help me...

    OK!
The response from macinbytes is correct with relationship to Type 1 fonts using Bezier curves and TrueType using quadratic curves for the outline defintions. There are also differences in how hinting is specified. (Hinting is the process by which font outlines are intelligently scaled such that at low magnifications - i.e., the result of both resolution and point size - text is still readable.) Type 1 fonts use mechanisms that rely on both information in the font and a very intelligent rasterizer. TrueType fonts rely almost totally on information in the font itself.
Despite the font wars of the early 1990s, properly designed and created fonts in both Type 1 and TrueType format are perfectly capable of being displayed and printed without any difficulty by operating systems and RIPs respectively that conform to the Type 1 and TrueType specifications. Since the late 1990's every printer with Adobe PostScript has natively supported TrueType as well as Type 1 fonts. Contrary to urban legend, TrueType fonts are not first converted to Type 1 fonts before rendering. Adobe has a full TrueType renderer in all its graphic arts products including Adobe PostScript, the Adobe PDF Print Engine, Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
OpenType fonts are effectively a special case of both Type 1 and TrueType font formats. OpenType CFF fonts are the equivalent of Type 1 fonts within what looks like a TrueType wrapper and have a file suffix of .OTF. OpenType TrueType fonts are the equivalent of Windows TrueType fonts within the TrueType wrapper and generally have a .TTF file suffix. In both cases, OpenType fonts cater to Unicode encoding and support significant features beyond just the font outlines and bare bones font metrics. There is also available support for ligatures, swash alternates, contextual alternates, etc. For further information about OpenType fonts, you might want to look at http://www.adobe.com/type/opentype/ and http://www.microsoft.com/typography/SpecificationsOverview.mspx.
