Embedded links in emails willl not process by firefox mesage says " operation has been canceled due to restrictions in place on this computer"

Imbeded links will not process on Firefox: I receive this screen: "operation has been canceled due to restrictions in place on this computer"

Hi,
ahla.org redirects to
https://www.healthlawyers.org/Pages/home.aspx
... its a mess
eg. the login link is http://admin.healthlawyers.org:8080/_login
any error message with "Restriction" in it is from Group Policy.
what you can try
Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default"
Trusted Sites icon, sites button, remove ANY reference to
http://ahla.org or http(s)://www.healthlawyers.org (IE has security restrictions preventing navigation between sites of lower integrity).... Other userAgents do not use the same security model as MSIE.
the https protocol (secure web sites) works in any IE security zone.... If a site uses https, you do not have to place it in the Trusted sites list. It should work (encrypt) just as well in the internet zone (default).
Hover the mouse over the pdf/doc hyperlink... its uri will appear in the status bar or at the bottom of the IE window... note its address. IT MUST point to the healthlawers.org domain. It should also be using the same protocol as the current web page. If it
uses the https protocol, check "Internet Options>Advanced tab, uncheck "Do not save encrypted files to disk"
As I said.... it is likely that the above settings are controlled by Group Policy.

Don't know if this is an Outlook problem or not. Firefox was recently reinstalled and Outlook has not been touched at all so presume it is Firefox issue. Have been able to click on links sent to me on email and Firefox immediately opened but no longer.

This is being blocked by your operating system. Please also ask Window's support to change any https or program setting that would block this action.

Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:

  • This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect....opening Word docs from link in web page

It's the ahla.org website.  It has both pdf files and Word docs.  The pdf links open in the browser or Adobe but the Word doc links open the option at the bottom of IE11 that just says "Open" or "Cancel".  When I choose
open, it gives the error about policy restrictions or something similar depending on if it's Word 2007 or 2013.  If I could even find an option to have it "Save" and open after download that would be helpful.  I can right click the link
and choose save as but this is an office full of attorneys and they can't find the download folder afterwards.
This isn't the issue with Chrome being installed/uninstalled because it does it on computers where it's never been installed.  It's not a group policy setting as it does it at the office or home PC.

  • Links from emails do not open in Firefox

Recently when I click on a link (usually from an email), it will not open in Firefox. Although I am taken to Firefox, the new link doesn't open, instead I just see the windows that were already open. This was working before. I reinstalled Firefox which seemed to fix the problem for a week or so, but now it's not working again.
I checked and Firefox is set as the default browser, and there are no security problems in the error report. I am running version 3.6.12 on a MacBook Pro using Snow Leopard

some say its to do with uninstalling chrome which i have just done.. there is no simple fix to it... well depends how computer literate you are i suppose... some suggest reinstalling chrome in order to resolve it.. i am not sure that i wouldnt make matters worse if i tried to fix it. see:

Mail also used to mark mails as read once I had selected them - now it insists that I double click and open them before it changes the marking - pain in the butt ...

  • Firefox will not start, the error message says it has been removed from my system - although I didn't take it off.

Firefox worked fine for me last night, today when I tried to open it the error message read that windows could not find the file and firefox was probably removed from my system, thus why it wouldn't work. I tried running the program and starting a new profile, but no firefox files seem to be left.
