Embedded links in emails won't open new window or tab in FF.

Running Mac OS X 10.6.6 and FF Version 3.6.12. I'm using Mail Version 4.4 as my email client and when I try and open an embedded link from an email, the link doesn't open a new tab or window. FF recognizes the link, but doesn't respond with a new tab or window. If I copy and paste the link into the browser the links work fine, so I feel like it's a setting or bug that has been changed somewhere somehow. This problem only happens when I try to click directly from the email. I've tried searching the preferences in both Mail and FF, but can't seem to find anything that fixes the problem. This issue started happening two weeks ago when I did the latest Mac OS X security update. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi everyone, I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have been very very frustrated by this problem. [I could not create new windows, and anything that opens new windows, such as trying to see what Add-ons you have etc would not work]. I read about changing screen alignment to the top... I have one screen so the option does not exist. The above messages would not fix this problem. I searched hard and did find a solution in the end. I read stuff about removing Add-ons until the problem is fixed, but its simply not the case.
First of all open Firefox. next go to options: Help --- 'Restart with Add-ons disabled'. Tick the box for add-ons, restart firefox. Next go to Tools --- Add-ons. Next (In the Add-ons Manager' click on 'Plugins' on the left hand side pane. Look for the small blue writing that says 'Check to see if your plugins are up to date'.
Now notice it should say 'Missing Flash'. "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Flash. Please upgrade to the latest version". I followed this, reinstalled Flash and it now works as it always did, no problems. For people where the above fix didn't work, try this one out. Hope it helps people!

  • Firefox 4 on mac 'snow leopard' (10.6.7) won't open new windows - only tabs

I upgraded a couple days ago, and just noticed that I cannot open a 'new' window, only tabs in the original window that opens when I initially click the FF icon. I've tried both command-N and clicking file/new window from the menu. If I right-click a tab and select 'move to new window' the tab just goes away - no new window appears. New tabs open without an issue. I've rebooted, but it doesn't help.
I'm running macbook pro 13", 8g ram/1t drive - shouldn't be resource starved. Doesn't appear to matter what else (if anything) is running. The only plug-in I've installed is Adblock.
My previous installation (3.something - was current) 'lost' all my plugins somehow - they showed in the list, but wouldn't run; I removed them all but it wouldn't let me re-install any (I forget the error). That seemed to all get fixed when I upgraded to 4; adblock installed and runs like normal. Not sure if there is any relation, but thought I'd mention it.
    Thoughts?

I have this same problem. Firefox 4 on 10.6.7 on a 2009 unibody Macbook Pro.
I've noticed that I only have the problem when I'm using multiple monitors and my Firefox 4 window is to the left of the Mac OS X Menu Bar.
My typical arrangement is: laptop monitor with firefox 4 window TO THE LEFT OF external Dell 24 inch monitor with Mac OS X Menu bar.
Moving my Firefox 4 window to the external monitor allows me to open a window.

  • Safari 3.1 won't open new windows or tabs from a hyperlink

what in the heck has gone wrong here? Something I did? I use Saft and Stand updated as well in the case of Saft.

Look here for Safari extensions. Use at your own risk. I love Saft because it has a session saver feature. Stand is much more multi dimensional.

  • New window will not open even when "open new window in tab" is checked

I cannot open a new window even when i have the option "Open new window in tab" checked.
Firefox will NOT open a new window under any circumstances.
Also, when I quit Firefox, the system thinks that multiple instances of FF is running but they are invisible to me.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]

  • Firefox 31 (Ubuntu) won't open new window or Javascript pop-ups

Hi, I am running Firefox 31.0 in Ubuntu 14.04 having the following problem:
    1) When I click on New Window or New Private Window in the File menu, nothing happens, same with pressing Ctrl-N.
    2) Certain websites are not able to open new windows or pop-up windows through Java or Javascript
(e.g. the command: javascript:popup_imp(...) does not produce anything)
I did try safe-mode and there everything works fine. Then I restarted firefox (several times) with all plugins disabled but still had the same problem, so I don't know what causes the difference between safe-mode and no plugins.
(By the way, there is no problem opening a New Tab by pressing Ctrl-T or from the file menu, the issue is only the New Window and New Private Window).
Is there any other way to narrow down what is preventing the new windows?

    Hi cor-el,
thanks for your answer, however as I explained in my post, safe-mode does not present the problem, but disabling the extensions on its own does not help (i.e with all extensions disabled the problem still is there).
Also, I did not have this problem in the past and I did not change anything graphics related (unless something was changed software-wise internally and I did not notice).
And yes I am currently using the default theme.

  • Firefox won't open new windows or upload video

Firefox is starting to get on my nerves with this one. The program will be working fine and then suddenly stop opening new windows. For example, I'll take a quiz and want to upload my results to facebook. I'll click the button and instead of opening a new window for facebook, it does nothing. Another example: I'm taking an online course and if I click to upload a file, instead of opening a window, it does nothing. When I click the red X to close firefox, nothing happens. Also, the minimize, restore, and close window buttons no longer respond. I have to open my task manager and manually stop the process. I notice when I reopen the program, it offers to restore all of my tabs as well as windows that mysteriously never opened before. This has been going on for about a week now and it really is annoying. I also notice when this happens that firefox seems to be taking up an unusual amount of RAM on my computer. What gives?
I am using the most recent version of Firefox on a Dell PC and running the most recent version of Windows 7.

    Hi JuMaGa86,
Thank you for your question. This sounds like a performance issue, please try these troubleshooting steps [[Firefox uses too much memory (RAM) - How to fix]]
Then clear your cache and run the browser for a while to see if the performance improves. We look forward to your reply!

  • "SyntaxError: unterminated literal string" message received when opening new window or tab

I receive this message every time I open Firefox the first time online, and with each new window or tab I open after that. I don't receive the message more than once if I only work in the original window. Other than the usual updates that always go on, I haven't added or deleted anything from my system.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Not sure exactly when.

I found the extension causing the problem. It is MyPoints Point Finder 1.300.306. I tried updating it, but there are none available. It is currently disabled. Would removing it be a better strategy, or leave it disabled until an update is available?

  • Opening new window or tab to the same site being viewed on another tab/wind

I am a new MacBook user. In my past experience with Internet Explorer, I would often open a new window to the same site that I was already viewing through File>Open New Window. This method was often preferable to opening a new window through the IE icon and loading to the homepage. I have gotten quite used to this pattern and am trying to figure out if there is a way to open a new tab or window to the same page that I am already viewing. I know how to open a new tab or window, but rather than going to the same page as in IE, the new tab is blank and the new window goes to the home page. I am using Safari and Firefox and can't figure out how to do this in either browser.

    Hi,
Try this, I think it works for both Safari and Firefox (not 100% sure on Firefox but think so...)
Press command+l (lowercase L) and then press commandoptionpress return. That will open a new window with the current webpage in the new window. To open a new tab with the same details, omit the option key in the second step.
Command key = one with the Apple symbol
Option key may be called Alt on your keyboard.
    Hope that works!

  • TOC Links won't open New Window, Whole Page

RoboHelp HTML 11, Internet Explorer 11. Multiscreen HTML5 layout.
I'm trying to experiment with the different ways of opening links: New Window, Whole Page, Same Frame, etc.
Yesterday the different variations worked the way they should, but today every link in the TOC opens as if set to "Default (none)".
As for Links on topic pages, "New Window" opens a new tab, and "Whole Page" seems to go to Default (including the sidebar, which I gather should not be there).
    Any ideas?
    -- Shawn

    Hi,
    Responsive or Multiscreen?
For the HTML5 version, the frame options for links won't work.
New Window should open a new tab. That is as expected.
The rest will work like a regular link.
The frame options really are just for WebHelp only. And only the new window and whole page make any sense.
    Kind regards,
    Willam

  • Firefox won't open new windows as maximized

I'm running Firefox 31 on Windows 7, and in the program properties I've set it to run "maximized". When I open a new browser window using either the desktop or start menu shortcuts or "File > New Window" in the browser itself, it opens maximized just as it should. However, when I click a link that's programmed to open in a new window, the new window consistently opens as "normal window" rather than "maximized". I find this incredibly irritating.
This problem did not occur at all back when I was using Firefox 28.
I have not been able to find any way to correct it in the settings or options, nor have I been able to find any remedies in the form of add-ons. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Well that looks easy enough.
Will toolbar customizations be the ''only'' thing I'll lose if I delete my localstore?
