Embedded Media

I work at an organization that creates PDF presentations out of PowerPoint files. We would like to embed video (mpeg) into the PDF and then distribute online. Is there anyway to embed the video and have it play without users having to adjust their "multimedia trust" settings in Acrobat Reader, without having to go through someone like VeriSign to certify and sign the document?

Acrobat 9 has extended security but also allows for a better playback
experience since it can enable Adobe Reader 9 users to playback content
using the Flash runtime. In other words, no dependency upon the media
player - you need Acrobat 9 Pro and they require Reader 9 (when it's
released) ;-)

  • Reader-8.1.1 and embedded media file

    Hi,
I cannot get embedded MPEG files running in the new Reader for Linux. I have RealPlayer 10.0.9 installed on my system and the `realplay' starting script is in PATH.
When I click on the movie, a message box opens saying:
Acrobat has encountered an error while playing this media clip:
Without telling the actual error. If I click a second time, the same box opens again, but a small black pop-up opens as well, showing a progress bar and the message `Initializing RealNetworks'. But nothing happens after that.
Do I need to configure something else?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.
    Alexander

    Alexander,
I'm having a similar problem, but with a Flash file.
I've verified that I can play the file from the
command line and from my KDE Desktop (SUSE Linux 10.1),
and so I'm pretty sure that the player is working.
But when I generate a PDF using LaTeX and your movie15
    package AR8.1.1 redirects me to:
    http://www.adobe.com/special/acrobat/nomediaplayer.html
If I look at the attachments pane, the file is
    correctly identified as "application/x-shockwave-flash"
But under the filename, the phrase "Indeterminate" has
been added, which suggest that the something in the
annotation is not recognized (I'm using move15 2007/05/07).
Either that, or AR itself is broken.
I'm still in the process of dissecting the PDF to see
where the problem lies. But it would be helpful if
someone could post a url to an embedded media example
that is known to work with Linux AR8. That way I can
at least check that my setup is working, which will
    be hakf the battle won.
    Cheers,

  • Acro Reader embedded media blocked on internet?

I have a website, www.vincentasl.info, that consists of PDFs containing embedded media, mostly audio, some video. The way it was designed work - and always did until recently - was for each PDF to open in the browser (or at least show no evidence of being downloaded first), and for each embedded media clip to play when an icon for it is clicked (after the user gives permission via an Options dialog that opens the first time a media icon is clicked).
The worked for years, then suddenly when I checked it a couple of months ago, all the media had stopped working. The cursor would not even change to a pointing finger when hovering over one of the icons. The problem occurred only over the internet. All the icons in the same PDFs still opened the videos fine when I loaded the PDFs locally.
I started this post in the belief that this behavior was still current, but just checked again and found that now each PDF downloads to one's local PC, and the icons do work (after the user gives permission, of course).
This is an improvement, but I still strongly prefer for the PDFs not to download first.
Can someone please tell me (or refer me to the appropriate source to find out):
    - Does this reflect a succession of changes in Adobe's security policy?
    - How likely am I to find the rug pulled out from under me in this way again? (I'm devoting a huge number of man-hours to this effort that I don't want to be wasted!)
I should mention the following important fact: These videos are all 'legacy' MOVs. Using the built-in H.264 way of handling video does not work for my situation for two reasons: (1) In the new H.264 interface, the controls (play, pause, etc.) overwrite my sub-titles; and (2) My readers will need the ability to view the videos frame by frame for careful study of eye movements, etc.., preferably with the arrow keys. Both needs are met by the MOV video interface.

Appropriate due consideration for application and end-user security required the shift away for the methods use with "legacy" media and PDF.
Under the circumstances I'd not expect there to be any changes made by Adobe.
    Be well...

Anyone have any suggestions as to why embedded flv files do not play in android reader 10.1?
Have tried various codecs and formats. The files play on the android out of the pdf fine
They play fine on the PC from within the pdf
    Thanks

    Hi,
Please note that Adobe Reader on Android currently does not support playing of embedded media.

  • Viewing embedded media in Safari

Okay, so can anyone tell me why you can't watch embedded media such as flash, or mpegs, in Safari on my IPOD Touch.
    ?

No way to play flash and most video formats exists on the touch. Pretty much all you can use is the formats defined in the system specs.

  • Viewing embedded media

I have tried on several different pages to view the embedded media. For some reason Safari is unable to play the video. Am i missing a plug in? or do I need to load seperate software?
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Files are in mms which is derivation of Windows Media Player and is a RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) that refers back to Windows asf media files.
Unfortunately not all of these files work due to MS blocking the use of newer protocols on the Mac, Flip4Mac cannot play these videos in Safari or Camino (I've confirmed this one) and WMV for Mac is discontinued so it may be some time. Flip4Mac is currently backed by MS so you never know, we may get to see these files soon.........

  • Exporting OMF without embeded media?

Does anyone know if there is a way to export an OMF file from FCP which does not contain embeded audio media and only data referring to the original source media?
    Thanks for any pointers,
    Daniel

I've checked out the automaticduck website, and it only seems to be able to export OMF with embeded media. If anybody knows if it can in practice perform the function of exporting session data as OMF (without embeded audio media), please let me know.
If not, it's not a bad idea for somebody to implement. Using OMFs in this manner is standard practice in the film industry.
Sound editors don't have receive gigs of audio data every time there is a change in the edit. All they need is a copy of all the source audio files once, then session data OMFs are sent to them as changes occur (via e-mail cause their small). It's very practical, saves a lot of time and HD space.

  • Firefox having issues with embedded media websites

I actually have two issue which maybe the same issue.
    1.
Certain sites that I regular navigate to that have some sort of embedded media, the media does not display. As an example on the site http://odb.org/, in the top left corner is a player which displays in Chrome and IE and displayed in Firefox prior to 4.0 but now only displays a white box but no play button or volume control. Other websites with different media types are blank. I have a site with code that displays an embedded interactive speaking character and the portion of the screen is should display remains blank.
    2.
Second issue, maybe related is while the Firefox 4.0 appears to be fast. On the same sites with embedded media or with complex pages (probably has stuff I don't know is there), the page attempts to load and you see the waiting for or transferring message in the bottom left corner. It takes a while and then if you attempt to click anywhere on the page you get the "not responding" message but the page eventually loads possible with missing content. Heck I have this problem accessing the Firefox support page.

Nope. Went through that list before and nothing. For kicks, I try it all again. I turned off every add-on but Shockwave and that didn't work either. Also, on the Adobe Flash test page the Flash portion of the screen does not display when I use FireFox but does when I use Chrome, so I couldn't check the whole hardware acceleration setting anyway. I had reboot issues when I was forced to upgrade to Firefox. I am wondering whether my download is somehow corrupt. And if you were wondering, Safe mode didn't work either. When's the next Firefox patch. funny thing is everything worked well in Firefox 3.6 and below, so either the update to 4.0 or the download process broke something.

  • Embedded media player controls (play, stop, pause, etc.) on multiple sites will not respond in FireFox 12.0 or will only respond after multiple clicks

I go to multiple websites that contain embedded media, such as billburr.com, tunein.com, and forums where members embed media from sites like YouTube. When attempting to access or use that media, using the available play, stop, pause, and volume control buttons, FireFox doesn't respond. For example, If I'm on billburr.com and attempt to play the podcast, I can click the play button over and over again and nothing will happen. The play button lights up like the site realizes I'm clicking it, but the media will not play, at least not the first time. I might get it to work after several fast clicks. However, if I need to pause it, I have the same trouble. These sites work perfectly in IE 9. I've already started FireFox in safe mode, but encountered the same problem. Has anyone seen this?

That is a Flash player on the billburr<i></i>.com site.
You can try to install the 32 bit Flash player for Firefox from this page.
For Firefox on 64 bit Windows, you need the 32 bit Flash version version because Firefox is a 32 bit application.

  • What causes all my emails with embedded media to always be downloaded with the media broken or removed? How do I solve it?

Whenever people send me emails with embedded videos or pictures, the email always comes in without the media. It will have just the empty box outline where it supposed to be with a tiny broken page icon in the top left-hand corner.
I can't seem to find the cause and the solution and this has been happening for a few years already. Does it have anything to do with my account still being POP and not IMAP? What are the possible reasons and their solutions? Please help, thank you.

I am not an expert in this area, but I think I might know what is going on. There is a difference between an 'embedded' picture and an 'attached' picture.
An embedded picture has a link to the actual picture. If the link is to a site which is not accessible (such as the sender's own computer) then you will get a broken link.
An attached picture is the actual picture file (.jpg, etc.) so you can always view it. If you check 'Display Attachments Inline', then when you scroll down through the email, the attachments will show up.
So, bottom line: If the sender embeds a picture, it needs to link to a publicly accessible URL. Otherwise, it needs to be attached.

  • Reader XI won't play embedded media

I downloaded the latest version of reader his afternoon. I am trying to read an e-book in pdf format that has several embedded videos. The file is completely downloaded to my computer. Every time I try to play one of the embedded videos, a box pops up that says the media requires an additional player. It then prompts you to "get media player". However, when you click on the get media player button, a window pops up that says http 403 forbidden... the website declined to show this website.
    I am running windows 8.
I have the latest flash player.
I downloaded the plug in installer for non ie browsers.
I have tried to select every different option under multimedia (legacy) and multimedia trust (legacy)
Is there something that I am missing here?
    Thanks for your help

    the url is
    http://cgi.adobe.com/special/acrobat/mediaplayerfinder/mediaplayerfinder.cgi?
yes I installed all of the above. I tried to uninstall reader XI and install reader 9, since that is what is on my brother's xp machine and it works fine on his, but even reverting back to 9 it still does the same thing.
I also downloaded and installed adobe media player 1.8 (had to get it from a file hosting site since adobe doesn't let you download it directly from them) still not workiing
Here are some screenshots of what is happening.

  • Embedding media player in sap gui

    Hello,
i want to play a media file in the sap gui. i can play a file using the  cl_gui_frontend_services=>execute method, but i don't want the media player to pop up. i have also checked out this blog entry /people/thomas.jung3/blog/2005/05/11/using-classic-activex-controls-in-the-abap-control-framework, but i was wondering if anyone knows how to do it without all the hassle.

    Hi,
this functionality is not present in the player itself, but you can use the code from the setup.html page that uses JS to generate the embed code from a set of parameters as a starting point.

  • Can you post a PDF that has embedded media in it, onto a website?

I have embedded audio and video onto a PDF now I want to post that on a web site so that people can view it but not to download. Is this possible?

If it can be viewed, it can be downloaded.

  • Firefox freezes while trying to download embedded media via Flashgot while Tor is enabled

I have both plugins of Flashgot (1.2.8.2) and Tor button (1.2.5). For example, I want to grab a video from Youtube (while the video is running) using Flashgot while Tor is enabled, Firefox will freeze but the download is not progressing and window cannot be closed. I have to kill the firefox.exe process to reactivate it. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.
This does not happen when Tor is disabled. So there might be some conflicts between Flashgot and Tor plugins. But hopefully, firefox team can help to get around with it. TIA!

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

  • Why are embedded Media Player MP3 files playing automatically

I am webmaster for my church website where I post audio sermons using the MS Media Player Plugin. On my XP SP3 computer using Firefox 7 the fifteen audio sermons on the website all start playing automatically when I access the web page. Previous versions of Firefox worked fine and my wife's Win 7 computer using Firefox 7 works fine.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and make sure that "Keep..." is *not checked.* That is the only iTunes option that would move files around.
While you are at it, also make sure that "Copy..." is unchecked too. The iTunes will have no option but to play the file you have without moving or changing anything.
