Embedded Pagemaker links

I'm opening Pagemaker files in CS3 (I don't have Pagemaker) and they come up with a missing links warning, telling me to open it in Pagemaker and relink the files, which isn't an option for me.  However when I say continue anyway, the links show in Indesign as embedded and export, albeit low quality.
What I want to know is; in this situation would Indesign default to just using the preview images, causing the poor quality?  I'm not sure how good the linked files were in the first case so can't tell if it's worth getting someone to spend hours finding the links, and then fix them in Indesign.  The designer the files came from (passed away now) used to embed files sometimes too.

Well it is displaying and exporting them, but they're low quality.  What I want to know is if Indesign can't find the link does it use an image preview?  If so I assume that will be what the embedded files it is showing are.

  • How can I stop firefox from opening hundreds of tabs when I click on an embedded email link?

Every time I forget and click on an embedded email link, firefox tries to open multiple tabs(sometimes hundreds). I can't shut down firefox when this happens, I can't do anything else. I have to manually shut down the computer and reboot.

Check to make sure that mailto has not been set to open Firefox.
To do that open the Preferences dialog by selecting "Firefox > Preferences". In the Preferences dialog go to the Applications panel. In the "Content Type" column locate mailto, and make sure the Action column is not set to "Use Firefox" This procedure is explained in more depth in the [[Managing file types]] article.

  • Problem with embedded youtube links

This is happening on my ipad and iphone after installing 7.0.2; when I click on an embedded youtube link it throws me to the home screen. I've deleted youtube app, no good. Reinstalled it, no good. Tried using various different browsers, no good. Any ideas?

    Great photos...
You mean those aren't your captions??? "Mad About Greece" and "At the Ruins"... You don't know anyone named Terry??? hahaha.
Yeah, even though you made things "invisible" they are still there. Go back and make the template "uninvisible". Then just highlight and delete the captions.
A simpler, more automatic way of making your gallery page is detailed in this .Mac blog entry. I'm not sure if you want to redo everything, though...
    http://www.mac.com/web/en/Tips/013C4180-4787-4847-BAAB-319222AFC652.html
This way, you don't have to make and position all those transparencies, etc..... especially since you are positioning your most recent galleries up top.... you'll have to move all the transparent shapes and hyperlinks when you add a new gallery.

Here is a link to a test PDF,http://www.dallasmobility.org/agenda_packets.asp
just click on one of the agenda packet PDFs, when the PDF opens you'll see links to additional documents, obviously the Playbook would have to either connected to WiFi or using the Bridge to a BlackBerry that is online, thanks for the offer of help

  • Embedded content link misbehaving

    Hi,
I have an embedded content link to a dashboard page that resides on another OBI server. For some reason the link brings me to the 'my dashboard' page instead of the target dashboard when I initially access the dashboard that contains the embedded content object. When I hit refresh on my browser the correct dashboard page suddenly appears. Here is the embedded link reference
    http://xxx.yyy.zzz/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard&PortalPath=/shared/Playground/_portal/Fall+Survey+Reports&Page=Credit+Hours+SDF+9
Nothing but a plain vanilla dashboard page reference....
    tks,
    Ken

I guess I need to include more info in terms of what is happening:
Initial tests conducted locally indicate that OBIEE does allow the sharing of dashboard pages between different locations without the need for multiple login screens but there are some associated issues with the initial dashboard display. The test proceeded in the following manner: <ul><li>Two separate installations of OBIEE </li>
<li>The use of the standard Security Web Filter which ensures users are logged into the Portal and acts as our single sign-on enforcement mechanism </li>
<li>Creation of a test OBIEE dashboard on the OBIEE development server. </li>
<li>Creation of two "embedded content" links to other dashboard pages from the main test dashboard. One link pointing locally to the development server and one remotely to the production server </li>
<li>User logged into the development OBIEE instance, validated their security session, and both the local and remote dashboard pages display without the need to login a second time. </li>
<li>However, the enbedded content link pointing to the remote dashboard initially goes to the "my dashboard" page and not the page specified in the embedded URL. When the browser refresh is hit the correct dashboard renders in the embedded content link area which is pointing to the remotely hosted dashboard page.</li>
    </ul>
When a dashboard incorporates content from multiple presentation servers utilizing the Security Web Filter an instance of the Web Filter is invoked at each presentation server. Since this is a standard http/https communication the valid http cookies for the user are available to each of the web filter invocations. From the list of cookies each Web Filter invocation will extract and validate the Security session id. If the id is valid and current, access to the resource on that presentation server will be granted. Key to this working is that all presentation servers must be able to access the session cookie and all of Web Filter invocations must be validating the session id against the same instance of the validation service. The assumption here is that these resources are internal, available over some secured VPN, or reachable via HTTPS.

  • Trouble with Pagemaker Links

How can I embed graphics in pagemaker 7.0.  I have a 40 page document that I have printed before and converted to a pdf.  Now my links are not embedding.  I went back and re-linked everything from a clip art disc.  As soon as I eject the disc the links disapper.  I can't understand why things aren't linking or embedding.  Any help would be so appreciated. You can email me at [email protected]
    thanks
    Linda

From the old PM Forum FAQs:
ONLY use File>Place to bring graphics into PageMaker
When placing images in a PageMaker file, the following message appears:“The graphic in the linked file would occupy xxxxxxx bytes in the publication. Include the complete copy in the publication anyway?”The correct answer to this question is always "NO".
(You can permanently avoid this popup in future docs by unchecking "store copy in publication" under Element -> Link Options with no publication open. You can do the same to avoid further prompts in pre-existing documents.)
    l
Do NOT use Insert Object or Paste Special
Object Linking and Embedding is highly problematic in the Postscript environment (e.g. creating PDFs), severely restricts portability (other applications have to be present) and is really only present in PageMaker to gain Microsoft approval as a Windows application. It has been dispensed with in newer applications, e.g. InDesign.
    l
Do not Place graphics from a floppy, Zip disk, CD, or network drive. Copy the graphic file to your local hard drive, then Place.
    l
Use only TIF or EPS graphics (plus PSD and AI with PM7)
    l
Do NOT use JPEG, GIF, WMF, CGM, DXF, or any graphics format other than TIF or EPS (Click here for the Adobe Knowledgebase article about the Limitations of Metafiles.)
    l
You can place PDFs as graphics - they are essentially handled as EPS by PageMaker
    l
Do NOT copy/paste graphics from other applications. The Windows clipboard will lose information required by PageMaker for high quality output.
    l
Do not embed your graphics in PageMaker documents. Link only. (See the first bullet point)
    l
Save Illustrator or CorelDraw graphics as EPS for placing in PageMaker
    l
For best results with Illustrator EPS, convert all type to outlines, and save back to version 7.
    l
Save Photoshop graphics as TIF (the exception is duotones - save as EPS)
    l
Size your Photoshop graphics in Photoshop - do not scale in PageMaker, or if you must, do NOT scale UP (e.g. stretch a TIF to make it larger) in PageMaker.
    l
Photoshop's preferences should be set to NOT embed profiles in grayscale images - they can cause problems in PageMaker
    l
PageMaker supports transparency in vector EPS or TIFs with clipping paths ONLY. GIFs will not retain transparency and shouldn't be used in PageMaker anyway. See the other FAQs in section 3 for more details on transparency.
    l
PageMaker does not support progressive JPGs nor 16bits/channels TIFFs. Use Photoshop and re-save as 8bits/channel TIFFs.

  • Embedded mms-links change to open file-links when converting .doc to pdf

When converting word documents to pdf, all of my embedded video mms-links change to local open-file type links while my http-links keep their address. Why is this?
Since I've got about 600 of them I'm not too keen on changing them all back in Acrobat.
The links look like this in word:
    mms://something.com/videos/file.wmv
But turns out like this after conversion:
    Z:\catalog\mms:\something.com\videos\file.wmv
Notice the switch of slashes from / to \ after conversion.
    Anyone got a clue?
    Thanks!

    Hi!
    My versions are:
    Word 2007 and/or Word 2003 and Adobe 9.1.0.163
I think I solved it using this add-in:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4d951911-3e7e-4ae6 -b059-a2e79ed87041
and saving the .doc-files as .docx-files in word 2007 before saving them as .pdf, using the add-in.
    Thanks anyway!

  • Illustrator is Automatically Embedding my Linked Images

Is there some sort of "Auto Embed" feature that will embed your linked images?
I have a document that is embedding most of the linked images. It's not happening in all my documents, just one

    Did you check this
on Placing the file and then do this
on Saving? If you did, it will embed the file.

  • Adobe Reader 9 - Can't Open Embedded Excel Links

I currently have Adobe Reader 9.3.4 and Microsoft Office 2007 installed.  I am able to open a PDF document using the Adobe Reader software but I am unable to open embedded links to Excel documents.  I receive the message that the document you are attempting to open may contain macros, etc. do you want to Open.  I click on Open and than receive a message that Windows can't find the *.xls document.  This happens on both a Windows XP and Windows 7 platform.  I tested this same process on an Windows XP machine with an older version of Adobe Reader and the links worked fine.  Any suggestions to resolve this problem.

The application doesn't actually integrate with Adobe Reader, it just opens it by calling it with the command line and using the filename as a parameter. The application only checks if the Reader's window raised an error.

  • Firefox shows Fatal Failure when clicking on embedded URL Link

I use Mozilla Firefox 3.6.11 as my default web browser, on Windows 7.
I have a web-site at http://www.over-count.org.uk which has dedicated Pay-Pal “Donate” buttons embedded in html code Links on the home page, so that visitors can click on them to donate to us via Pay-Pal.
However, if I'm using Firefox as my web browser, clicking on either of these links only results in a Message appearing stating “Fatal Failure”.
If I use Internet Explorer 7 as my browser, and then click on the same Pay-Pal links, both work perfectly, and takes me to my dedicated Pay-Pal “Donations Page”
Also, using Firefox and accessing my Pal-Pal account via the 'normal' log-in procedure, there is no problem- it seems to be with linking to the https/ secure server via an embedded link.
Is this a known problem with using Firefox, or do I need to have a different html code inserted on my web-site publisher?
Any advice or solution would be appreciated, thanks,
    David Grieve, Scotland.

It also works if that page is not in a frame: http://over-count.weebly.com/

  • How can I get embedded advertising links to open in a new window?

I am working with Muse and have tried editing the HTML but it didn't work.
    Thanks, Sandy

If you are inserting links as text and then through Hyperlink adding external link , then you can setup the link to open in a  new window.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/muse/using/creating-hyperlinks.html#id_29862
In case the link is included in any html frame , you can declare target="_blank" which would open the links with a new window.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Issue with embedded website links in emails

    Hello all,
First time on this forum and hopefully someone can help me with this issue, which popped up in the last few weeks.  Whenever there is a link in the emails that I received, the link is only underlined and highlighted up to about 30 or so characters and when I click on it, it will open another window but the address is only the portion of the link that is highlighted, therefore, it always comes back with an error.  I have been getting around this issue but manually highlighting the entire link address in the email and then copy and paste it in a new window to get to the site that I wanted.  This is getting annoying and I don't know why it happened suddenly and how to fix it.
    Thanks,
    Peter Lau

  • Embedding external links in FC?

    Hi all,
I was wonder if it's possible to embed external links such as Vimeo in Flash Catalyst. If so, I'd love to know how. If not..why not?
    Thanks,
    -Eva

Do you mean linking to an external url like http://vimeo.com/7174318 from a button? Or do you mean that you want to embed something like this:
    <object width="400" height="225"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=7174318&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1 &show_portrait=1&color=00ADEF&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=7174318&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1 &show_portrait=1&color=00ADEF&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="225"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/7174318">Flightpattern</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/revoid">Gwen Vanhee</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
In Flash Catalyst you can add an interaction to a item that will allow you to open a new web page, however, you can not embed a swf from another domain without dealing with some security issues.
    Does that help?
    Chris

  • SelectOneChoice with embedded command link

    I am new to JDeveloper.
    I am using version 11.1.
I am trying to display a selectOneChoice list that will display a note pop-up displaying info about the selected when the user hovers over each of the items in the list.
I assume I need to somehow embed a command link into each item, but I am not sure how to do that.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
this is not an option with the select one choice component. One solution to the requirement is to mimic a custom select one choice component as shown here
